You're rageposting. Stop being a Rageposter.

You've essentially ragequit the discussion.

I was obviously unclear in that post.  What gets me is the "rage-" prefix.  They are quitters.  Not rage quitters.  They aren't hulking out over some online loss to some dude.  I wasn't saying it isn't a problem in SFV.  Was just saying the term itself is stupid, just like it has been in its online usage for the last decade.  Ragequitting, Rageposting, etc.  Insinuating that the person that lost to you (often times subjective) is REALLY SUPER ANGRY about it.  It's self-invoking an air of superiority.

Nooooooo I missed out on the Kiseki chat! :wall:

So it's not necessary to play through the other games? I've heard nothing but great things about Cold Steel, but wasn't sure on the continuity.

You could jump right into Cold Steel but definitely Falcom is assuming that you've played Sora (all 3 chapters), Ao, and Zero no Kiseki. Sadly, we don't have Sora 3rd, Ao, or Zero yet but Xseed preferred to get the PS3 games done first as Xseed considered that the PS3's life is limited right now.

So far I prefer Trails in the Sky to Trails of Cold Steel. I really enjoyed the little choreographed sprite fights in TitS, but the airship side of that was rather disappointing and kinda killed immersion a bit. When I went through ToCS, I was sad that there weren't any real good choreographed fights like TitS had. Then again there's still the second ToCS game, but I won't get my hopes up.

Now that you mention it, there were no fights that you sat back and watched like in Sora. Pity too...you'd think with 3D they'd do more but frankly they did bare-bones regarding animation...period.

The one thing that really bugged me about ToCS was the concert at the school festival, they built it up with all that training and never showing you the song/dance, then it comes and they literally play the same song you've heard a million times during the game. I was expecting some awesome Haruhi Suzumiya level of choreography. For a game with such an outstanding score, it just left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I want to play TiTS, but I don't have the time. If I could get a modified save and just speed thru it that would be awesome. Not sure if steam allows that though...

That last song too. It would have been cooler if the EVO version was included...

I refuse to turn it on casual though.  When I do lose a guy I'm always like damn well I want him back so I guess I'm doing this again.  It's pretty masochistic.

I dont get it then.  Isnt the whole point of "hardcore" that you can lose anyone anytime?  If you take that away (with the only penalty being a waste of your time) arent you essentially playing a 'DIY casual' mode? Or is there something else emblematic (pun intended) of hardcore mode?

*Note - I've never played a fire Emblem game.

I know its late but how are people liking Fire Emblem Fates? Oops

I managed to score a Special Edition thanks to a friends.

Currently playing and not sucking at Birthright.

Loving it more than Awakening.

The story is a lot worse than I thought it would be. They had a lot of potential with the 2 sides and different ideologies. But Corrin is one of the worst protags I've seen in a FE game. He's such a super pacifist that won't hurt a fly and he forces that on his team which would realistically endanger everyone. He's going into battle planning to sing and dance around campfires with the enemy. I hate that 90% of the character deaths are just retreats because they're important to the story.

The combat however is really great. Dual system is much improved. Maps and enemy positions are well developed. You need to make use of every enemy units move range and choke point.

I like it a lot.  But I don't like playing perfectly for an hour, getting to the boss of the stage, and then him one-shotting my guy with a single counter attack, using 1-2 ranged, because he has 27% crit.  It's stupid.  Any attack from any hero could have triggered that response.  Don't know why I bother playing these games on hardcore.  You can play perfectly the whole time with  no mistakes whatsoever and then RNG kills one of your heroes forever.  Then it's time to reset once again and lose another hour of exp sharing progress.

27% is pretty high tbh. I don't know why but this game has given me a lot more misses at 90% hit, and crits at 3% than past fire emblem games. It's almost xcom tiers of RNG.

Eh, the difference is on casual you can have someone go on a suicide run. You don't have to be careful about unit placement because you'll just get them back later anyway. Having to restart is enough of a punishment that I'm going to play it like a life and death situation even though I don't plan to allow any deaths. Sometimes I spend a few minutes on a turn deciding if I can move a unit to a space, if they'll survive a hit, or even just close the 3ds and think about the next move while I do something else. The point is the challenge. Also I'm just kind of used to it.

Yeah, 27% is very high.  My point being, you have to attack that guy three times to kill him and you're probably going to lose one character when he lands one crit.  I don't really see a way around it.  Esp when you can't negate his range.

Corrins Dragon Form is the stupidest form ever. Its basically a Horse. Why cant I turn into a badass Dragon like in the other games?

I love Fire Emblem though the RNG is a little crazy.

I had Kaze get three Lethality in one fight in a row. It was crazy. And he got a few Crits too and had less then 10%.

Also I play casual cause I am not hardcore enough to play Classic.

I love that you can buy skills off of other peoples when you beat them in their castle.

Its really cool.

I agree that the story for Fire Emblem Fates is pretty weak, at least from what I've played in Birthright. Corrin/Kamui is that classic good hearted protagonist that is somehow naturally a good leader. Im playing through Birthright and many of the "emotional" moments made me laugh more than sad. The scenarios they come up with are so unbeleivable its just hilarious.

Gameplay wise, it's definitely an improvement over awakening. They improved the pair up mechanic, reworked the grinding to make gameplay a bit more challenging, and the maps are varied enough thanks to dragon veins changing the layout of the battlefield. And of course, they still have the children that inherit skills from their parents. Thats the most addicting part of the game for me since I love deciding what skills my units get and making the most optimal character through class changes.

I'm playing through Birthright myself and find myself eyerolling a lot in the story. Stop trusting everyone and everything Corrin! A lot of the battles are just traps by the enemies. The gameplay itself is great and I've had to replay a lot of chapters. I'm only about halfway through (chapter 13 or 14) but it has felt challenging and fun. It's not just the terrible one to play that is easy as walking in the park. Play on hard/classic and it can be very rough sometimes. I do feel less bonding with the characters since it felt very forced and really you just don't remember much about them but do bond over levels. Corrin does feel less grand that other main FE characters you play as. It's still good but I hope the other sides have a stronger story.

I've been saying this for a while. They aren't playing Hardcore, its not a risk or challenging if you know that no matter what happens you'll just reset instead of dealing with it like intended.

Square Enix has released new details and screenshots of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness detailing a new enemy named Del Sur, a pair of new dungeons, the “Transporter” system, and more.

The trailer is combat heavy, showing off the various characters the player can utilize to take on dozens of enemies at once.

Just because you're 100% right, that doesn't mean that restarting every time a character dies vs just playing on casual is a waste of time.

I've been saying this for a while. They aren't playing Hardcore, its not a risk or challenging if you know that no matter what happens you'll just reset instead of dealing with it like intended.

I can appreciate that viewpoint.   I already pointed out the futility and foolishness of it all.  However I think playing the game on casual mode and facerolling through all the chapters is a shallow, hollow experience.   You'd beat everything on the first try, never lose any characters, and there would be no challenge to it.  Beating the game on hard with character deaths is much more difficult.  Plus, people want to see all of the conversations and relationships on classic mode.   To say that it's not challenging to beat the game on hard + classic is incorrect, regardless of how many times you restart levels.  Give it a try yourself and see how easy it is to finish the game on classic without losing anyone.   :)

Everyone has different ways of playing Fire Emblem.  You wouldn't even make it through the game on hard + classic without retrying some levels.  You'd lose several characters and then it would be game over.

I don't feel satisfaction if I play it on Casual. Classic/Hard is the way to go for me, ever since Fire Emblem came stateside.

Why do you keep retrying Miku songs until you get a perfect score?  It's a waste of time instead of just beating every level casually.

See how that works?

Glad to see theres a Mega Yarn Yoshi restock coming. I know a lot of people missed out on it.

I had to drive halfway across town because my usual store only got like 5 or 6, and they had like 10 people in line.

Square Enix has released a new set of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness videos, showcasing the differences in the PlayStation 4 version and Japan-only PlayStation 3 versions, as well using battle skills at different levels.

Square Enix has shared the first part of a new developer diary video series for Final Fantasy XIV.
