Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

added the rest of the year's standard pre-orders according to game-informer.  I'll start populating (pre)order links today starting with ps4 and working my way down the line,  if i get the chance.

I did the PS4 section for you under normal pre-orders and changed the layout to be a bit more mobile friendly and slightly less bloated horizontally. If you want, you can change it back by going to edit it and then on the right side compare it and revert. If not, then I can change the rest to that format later.

Thanks! Let's keep it this way for now and we can always revert it later. I spend most of my time in front of a desktop computer, so the thought never really occurs to me to make it more mobile friendly!!

Add in the fact that NISA doesn't charge me tax, and they have their own little rewards program, and I think I will keep my preorder with their webstore. Still it sucks that it's hard to predict which of these NIS special editions will stay NIS store exclusives, though I'm pretty confident the Grand Kingdom Grand Edition will remain an exclusive to the NISA website.

I don't use mobile for browsing except in rare cases where I have no other alternatives. I just remember that the past thread there were complaints with regards to mobile viewing and I figured this was better while still keeping it rather uniform. I'm not really sure it's necessary to list Dual Audio or Japanese only dub though. Not sure enough people care about it to make it worth it keeping that up-to-date honestly. The biggest things here are packaging quality, discounts and physical vs digital.

People who hate this movie probably haven't even seen the anime. The movie is pretty much an exact copy of the anime with nothing happening over 90 minutes.

These LE prices are too high....I think i'm passing on all of them going forward (though if P5 gets one I'm all over that no matter the price). Also feel pretty lame since I haven't had Amazon Prime for about a year or so now, so I don't get any of this...good old BestBuy getting screwed on these.

I like these cause I get the Hardcore Gaming 101 books and I like the boss fight books as well. Also this has volume 2 and volume 1 included as a bonus of the Untold History of Japanese Game Developers. This last book is highly regarded.

Not too impressed with the Square Enix sale. It amazes me that their online store is still selling PS1 games. There must be an endless supply of unsold Chrono Cross copies available.

No, just the one copy, but they figured out how to go back in time and collect it more than once.

Converted the rest. PC section has a physical tag instead of a digital like the console/handheld sections. Just need to go through and add missing games as well as links at this point.

EDIT: I'll get to that Saturday if you don't do it earlier.

My Street Fighter V LE shipped from Best Buy today because I forgot to cancel. I don't know why I continue to support this Capcom business nonsense. It seems that the game is shipping with only 16 characters since they say there will be 22 total characters after the DLC. They already have plans for one character DLC a month for the next six months for $5 each, or $29.99 for the 1st season pass. Why do we continue to support this bullshit.

That you can get the other 6 characters for FREE with the in game currency like in Marvel vs Capcom 2.

If you want to immediately play as Alex, you're more than welcome to go buy it.

What's this 40% off with Amazon prime I'm hearing about? Can anyone let me in on that?

I'm unsure if I want to switch Grand Kingdom to Amazon because I'm planning on getting the grand edition. But I definitely want to switch Stranger of Sword City... but isn't the prime discount only 20%?
