River City:Knights of Justice impressions after a few hours:

It doesn't seem like an ultra long game. Story is super simple with you coming and being introduced as a knight and you go around do knightly things. There are choices sometimes, but I don't know if they actually matter. I believe there is around a 100 quests, which generally are get me something, get me a lot of somethings, kill some bad guys or find a person and usually get a little story and beat them up. The game play is a bit clunky and all especially the inventory and switching weapons in fights and such. I generally go with the least amount of weapons to a fight and just pick up junk (for quests) or other weapons for backups.

It plays just like any Kunio-kun adventure game. You can buy skills to do weapon skills and general fighting skills. There are a lot of weapons, so those skills are highly recommended. In this adventure you can also get companions, but they are basic and you can't control their equipment or such. The hit detection is kind of funky, so a lot of times you hit even if it doesn't seem like you will.

It feels like the game wont last too long. I'm guessing around 10 hours or so to complete the game possibly with 100% completed side quests. If you like classic Kunio-kun games, you will at least enjoy the game play. It does feel super repetitive with you getting the same random encounters travelling around, and the battles change very little, though you can do skills and such later on. It's probably about a 6/10 in my book and worth about $5 or maybe a little more.

Is that the 2nd kunio-Kun American release on the DS?

3DS yes...first was the River City: Tokyo Rumble. I know the DS got like 1 or 2 of the sports games ones.

Wrong. No one has Bond license. Activision dropped it in 2013. Second, all those carts and fees don't stop MS from releasing Minecraft on Switch and Xbox live logins will happen on Switch so idk

I may have been wrong about Activision holding the license (though I only found references to them stating they wouldn't be making licensed games anymore - Got a source for them officially not holding it at this point?), but that doesn't change the fact that Goldeneye (the N64 game specifically) is a licensing mess - Rare has an interest, Nintendo does as the publisher, etc.

Minecraft isn't really the best example, either, unless you know the details of the purchase agreement Microsoft and Mojang entered into - Even though MS bought Mojang and the IP rights, at that point Minecraft had already been released across multiple consoles and was announced and planned for others (MS bought Mojang in late 2014, the PS4 version had been announced in 2013, and who knows when the deal had been completed to release it on Nintendo consoles).  Even though MS bought them out, if contracts were already signed to develop and release on other systems it would have likely been much more costly to cancel those than it would be to just license the software on another platform.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but so far the XBL login on Switch was only confirmed for Minecraft - The reason for that being Cross Platform play, since it's being handled on the MS end of things (confirmed by Mojang as the reason), and would tie in

Seems like they finally merged the Switch account balance with that of the Wii U and 3DS balances, as I got the prompt to do so when I went to purchase one of the free items on the eShop site. Now any credit you've got left on the Switch shows up on the other two eShops and vice versa.

So digital Switch Cave Story + is the same price as physical Switch Cave Story +?  Whatever happened to the $10 Nintendo cartridge "tax"?  Is it only certain companies that are doing it?

I'm pretty sure it comes down to each individual developer, and if they want to milk their fans or not. Cave Story is pretty much a free game, and while it may be the best ever made, they know not to over do it. For a physical release, with a cool manual, CD, etc and overall great game design, $30 is a solid price. $40 would be pushing it, and then some.

Seems like they finally merged the Switch account balance with that of the Wii U and 3DS balances, as I got the prompt to do so when I went to purchase one of the free items on the eShop site. Now any credit you've got left on the Switch shows up on the other two eShops and vice versa.

got that i think   a week or so ago

So digital Switch Cave Story + is the same price as physical Switch Cave Story +?  Whatever happened to the $10 Nintendo cartridge "tax"?  Is it only certain companies that are doing it?

Isn't Cave Story+, more or less, the same game released on the Wii for $10? I'd be willing to bet a digital-only version would have been way cheaper if there wasn't a physical release to sell at $30.

This is true. Nintendo says that physical and digital must be the same price.

Interesting - guess I am comparing it to other systems then.  For example Sine Mora EX and Battle Chasers Night Wars are both listed for $10 cheaper on PS4/XBox One compared to the physical Switch version (have no idea what the digital Switch version will cost).

Honestly tempted by Sonic Lost World and Generations 3DS.  Didn't realize these were unique games and not ports of the console release (like All Stars Racing is).  Anyone have any thoughts?

Also, first time Go Go Kokopolo has been on sale IIRC, so tempting...

You know it's Sonic's birthday when the sales start. Must be the first year his VC games didn't go on sale

As a new DS owner, can anyone suggest any good sites for used complete games? I've noticed Nintendo games are quite pricey and hardly ever go on sale. EStarland is a pretty good one I've found, but I'd like some options.

I basically just want to catch up on the classics, I.E. Mario, Zelda, Kirby, etc...

Thanks

Amazon Warehouse Deals is decent if you can get items in Good condition or above.

No they haven't. Developers/Publishers are given the choice. That was a rumor that was unverified.

A couple of publishers have thrown some tat in with their physical game so that they can charge more to get that return. There is no reason for Nicalis to have the same prices other than they want to.

Ugh.  Star Fox 2.  And Super FX Chip games.  I may have to try to find one of those.

Did Amazon do pre-orders for the NES classic last time?

I guess I have to browse CAG and Reddit till the stock goes up for the SNES classic

I think only two places had preorders before, and they didn't last long. I would hope they would offer preorders every place this time, and gauge interest for production, but "N" seems blind to any and every possible benefit of modern business, so who knows?

From what I remember only TRU and Target took preorders for the NES Classic.  I was lucky enough to get one from Target during the preorder window.  It actually lasted for a few hours (this was before the hype for the most part).

Wasn't the Target preorder window like midnight to 3 am CST?

I had good luck with Target last year; looks like I'll be waiting in line there again this year.
