Pokemon GO discussion!

I know, you are probably sick of running into (literally) kids on the street playing with their smartphones all over the place. I've been seeing a bit of discussion on the deals forum about the game, so I thought it might be cool to move some of it here.

Topics could be about: Tips, Pokemons caught, where your local pokestops are, funny encounters, mudkipz, power outages, network problems, etc.

So, anyone know if steps are counted if this app is running in the background? Like if I am trying to hatch an egg, and I have the app in standby, or the lock screen on, does the GPS still count it?

It does still count, but the GPS tracking is a bit iffy at the moment. It goes on/off for me all the time which breaks the step tracking.

Well I hope you guys stay safe, following common courtesy when walking around in public, never using it when driving and using lures for evil purposes. There are some damn assholes ruining it for everyone like one such as armed robbery by using lures. I have a feeling that one day it will be used with an act of terror.

I am really annoyed that gyms are broken, but only to the benefit of the Red team.

That's going to unbalance things for a while, because you're just basically handing the Red team all kinds of extra stardust to powerlevel all of their guys until this can be fixed.

I went to a sushi place a couple days ago, and the server told me there was a Pikachu if I walked around outside in the parking lot to the left of the restaurant.

When I got outside, there was already another person walking around in circles trying to find one too, lol.

Good times.

Wow, lol, that would make for a great love story or something. Or maybe if you were looking for nidorans.

Edit: and I just reminded myself of the episode where Ash let go of his butterfree :(

It's making people be active and I've actually run into a lot of new acquaintances through it. The only problem I have is that obviously some of the people playing haven't seen the light of the sun for months and are absolute cunts. If I fucking say hey to you while you're fucking trolling the fire department near our house, fucking say hi back and don't fucking stare at me dumbfounded with your stupid fat face covered in Cheeto powder.

That pikachu story LOL. My GF started playing this last night and is naturally addicted now. Plan is to take her on a picnic this weekend so she can catch some pokemon at the park. I gotta say, Nintendo finally got one right. :D

Except they didn't have that much to do with it, other than the license.

A few more things I've managed to figure out, most of it is common sense:

1) Sometimes at a Pokestop, the icon is white. I used to think it crashed, but just wait it out and it will be active.

2) So you have to throw the Pokeball in the colored circle...

3) It seems if you disconnect networks, like moving from Wifi to 4G, it still works, but the game has a hard time adjusting or something.

4) Having the game in the background doesn't count steps, at least not for me.

5) If you play on a college campus... Pokemon Zombie hordes...

6) The item limit seems to be bugged, I have 364/350 items somehow.

7) Sometimes it lags and doesn't let you transfer a Pokemon, if you rapidly press it, you might come across a glitch and get multiple candies.

8) Even if you have an evolved Pokemon with a lower or barely higher CP, evolve the pre-evolved form, the CP will raise dramatically.

9) Different Pokemon come during the day and at night... I think.

So I was wondering, how do people seem to find Pokemon in their houses? I have seen people finding Squirtles in their toilet and I have never found anything while walking around the house. I had a theory... is the camera on the phone active while you look around? Say, I am in my kitchen and I start cooking, and the phone camera faces the stove. Does a Magmar or something show up?

My GF has found everything from charmander to evee in our house, so definitely walk around or plop down on the couch and wait. She was using incense a ton, so that might factor into it. About the CP thing: CP doesn't matter so much as the moves a pokemon has. Every pokemon has different moves, even on duplicate pokemon, so it's worth keeping a harder to find move on one you catch and just go from there. Just a few things she figured out.

Nothing special. A couple spawned in our bathroom. I've never used any lures or incense. It's just random.

Was reading this morning that a 28 year old who never uses the phone while driving otherwise, slammed his car into a tree trying to catch one. People are trespassing and risking arrest over this game. People are stupid.

Are there better ways to replenish pokeballs other than paying for them? Seems like there's no daily reward and pokestops have 1-2 a piece? Free2Play is usually better than that in terms of keeping players playing and not paying.

Pokestops give 0-7 a piece (3 seems to be most common). Just find a spot with 3-4 pokestops and you'll get a couple dozen in 10 minutes.

Well, I gotta add a few things.

1) I think playing in a well-populated area lead to more rare Pokemon too, I went to Manhattan today and caught a whole bunch that I've never seen before. They seem to be around Poke-Stops too.

2) Really watch yourself when playing... I almost got mugged while I was in the park. Some guy just came up behind me when I was sitting down catching a Poliwag, and tried to grab my phone. I just grabbed my shit and ran.

Saw this trick on reddit, name your Eevee before you evolve to get the desire evolution:

Sparky = Jolteon

Rainer = Vaporeon

Pyro = Flareon

You can change the name anytime.

My sister is really into the game. When we were younger she watched the show and played the games. So she remembers that and Im not sure if its the nostalgia or the desire to want to keep catching that has hooked her. I love playing as well but like the past day or two the ball wants to keep curving when thrown. Im attempting to train myself to through the ball more accurate with it, which is a real ball waster.

Last night the "nearby" map wasnt updating, everything was three paw prints away and like all we ran into for 2 to 3 miles were pidgey and ratata. I restarted the game a bunch but nothing help, whats even more odf is how my sister's "nearby" was different than mine but it still had the 3 paw prints for everything.

Also its funny having to tell her boyfriend the names of the pokemon. He will see gyms and be like "oh man they got a giant mushroom!" He was talking about vileplume. Also he calls all the eevee evolution the type combined with eevee so like fire eevee, water eevee and electric eevee.

Overall great game, fun and is helping people to talk with each other and get outside.

Edit: as I wrote this I didnt realize how the servers are down and the footprint glitch is a known issue

I agree on the move thing, some Pokemon are more rare even with lower CP if they have a better move. But I think once they evolve, the moves are randomized again.

Anyone know how to use the razz berries? This isn't a troll question. I select it then throw it at the Pokemon, and then it blinks for a second. Then one of my pokeballs hit afterwards, they just sparkle and curve way off. Even if one manages to hit, the Pokemon breaks free and runs away.

You feed a razz berry to increase your chance to catch the pokemon. You can only feed it one at a time. So you van feed it one then if it breaks free again you can feed another and continue this. The ball curve is a bug currently along with the nearby tracker not updating. Normally you have to kind of wind up the ball to throw a curve but this bug is causing it randomly to happen. Hopefully its patched with in the next 24 hours.

One good strategy is save your evolutions. I stack up on pidgeys and rattatas and wheni have a good number i pop a lucky egg and evo the hell out of them together with my other high level pokemons. 1000 exp everytime which makes leveling up faster. Currently at 19. My highest pokemon so far is an arcanine cp! 1359. I have 40k stardust too since i dont powerup my evos that much.

FYI I was reading an article today stating that you waive your rights to sue or take action in a lawsuit by signing the T&C for POGO. They can also sell your information collected as part of a company sale or merger should that ever happen. You can opt out within 30 days for both conditions if you send them a signed statement in the mail. When this game came out, they had access to PII's that were patched out but I'm sure that info was retained regardless. Might be in your best interest to write them just in case they were ever hacked, since they are a pretty big target right now for data theft.

I'm on the Pokemon Go train with the rest of you fine folk! I'm inching towards level 11 right now. While the app definitely has its issues. It's undeniably addictive with how

Also, my crew and I made this fun little exercise I like to call Getting Fit With Pokemon Go Compliments my unboxing videos nicely :p

Did the lucky egg trick today, finally got to level 18. If it didn't take so long for each one to evolve... There's no way to skip the evolving animation right?

One other thing I noticed... Lot more females playing than males.

Anyone still play? I was thinking, so everyone has the same few "common" pokemon right? Like Rattata, Pidgeys, and Weedles. But then I was reading some stuff, and apparently the common ones can be different. Some towns and cities are chalk full of Drowsees and Eevees. Mine is full of Dudoos for some reason. Yet I've heard of people who have never even seen a Dudoo. Anyone have other kinds of Pokemon that you just never stop seeing?

Wow your lucky, I've only seen 1 growlithe here. And it's a great pokemon to have too for gyms.

Also NYC here. I don't think I mentioned that.

I ran out of pokeballs and been contemplating on getting a google play card. Damn nintendo, why you gotta do this.
My GF quit playing because of this and I never started once I learned from her that you essentially have to run around town going to pokestops to avoid paying money. She spent $2 and realized how quickly that went so she just stopped playing. I feel like this surge of popularity was just a fad and will die just as quickly. Nintendo lost all its stock gains overnight once they let investors know they're not actually seeing more than 10% of the revenue (WallstreetLoL; fucking flurbs). I feel like if they offered daily rewards like normal F2P games do, they would come out ahead in the end.

As it stands, with all the location spoofing and "insert coin to continue" business model, this fad will die just as fast as it sprung up.

I work at a church and has been marked as a pokestop. I can log in every 5 mins and collect items. The gym for our town is also across the street from me so I can walk over and fight.

I pass about 5 pokestops on the way to work and back. The trick is to drive while collecting pokestops, i go between 20-30MPH then as soon as the circle touches the stop i start spinning and collecting. Also be aware not to get into an accident. Not having a car behind you helps a lot.

So there was an update today. After I updated I noticed that I can't seem to find the transfer button at the bottom of each pokemon's page. Did they move it or just get rid of it?

They moved it to a sub menu on the bottom right. Now I gotta press even more buttons to transfer the 8000 pidgeys I have...

Is it just me or is the hitbox of capturing a lot smaller after the patch? I feel like I actually have to aim now, whereas before I just had to throw it close.

I feel like I've tossed balls over dozens of pidgey heads in ways that would have totally counted before. I haven't really noticed outside of the pidgey situation though.

Lol, sounds like the classic rigged carny game to me. Never occurred to me that they could start messing with hitboxes in order to drive more sales. If true, that's pretty sad.

I actually put down $40 for this game been using lucky eggs and buying a couple of incubators and more storage. I was thinking since i buy the nintendo games for $40, plunking down the same amount will be my limit. Wish it ddnt buy incense since i think its useless right now. I also bought lures which was a waste in my part i think. Im better off leeching on someone elses lure party than putting mine in. Hehe!

im at level 24 right now with 107 pokemon variations. Getting them from normal routes i take during my everyday living. Its a pain leveling up now but im still having fun doing walks talking to others i come across in pokestops.

I never did pokevision. Im been reading alot of people getting salty about pokevision not working anymore. I do think a number of those that are really mad are the ones that cheat and use the service to spoof locations. tsk!

Anyway, id still be playing the game and hoping they do fix the other issues soon and add new features like trading and social media integration. Hehe!

So I guess the update has people pretty pissed about some feature removal and tracking sites being taken down? Was seeing a ton of headlines yesterday about the community turning on the developers over the decision.

Between POGO and No Man's Sky leaks, seems like there's a lot of drama lately lol.

I never used the nearby feature or Pokevision so I didn't really care about their removal. I am having a much harder time trying to catch pigdeys and rattatas though. The pokeball keeps missing, and when it hits, it usually escapes. They also run away a lot more now too. Level 21 at the time.

I noticed that too. Even doing curve balls is a lil tricky now. Feels like they tweeked the throw mechanics. And yes, low level pokemons have a tendency to more escape now which is a pain! That shoudnt happen at all. Like what jodou said, seems like they want people to spend more for this game. Tsk!

Anyone know what distance you have to be from a Pokestop with a lure module on it for it to have an effect? Like does the Pokestop need to be activated, or do the circles have to intersect, or maybe you just have to be close and don't even need to touch?
