Assassins Creed Odyssey Free for testing Googles Project Stream!

for reference, the free game is being delivered after project stream ends, and they did imply they are still taking signups so worth trying if you want it

 
Sweet! I didn't realize that they give you a copy to keep as well. I wonder, is it sufficient to just pause the game once I'm able to control my character, for an hour and have that count?

This is all assuming they send you an invite.
 
I remember signing up to test this the first go-round and even got accepted...however, someone wound up buying me the game on UPlay, and I never tried this out. Now I'm curious as to how it actually works...

 
I’ve put nearly 60 hours into the Project Stream test and have only explored about 1/4 of the map. I was worried that I wouldn’t finish the game by the time the beta ended, so I’m extremely happy they decided to give us a way to continue our save games after the beta ends.

Honestly it's pretty playable, there is obvious discernible input lag cuz of the tech at play, but not enough that I felt it was unplayable

I've put a ton of time in the project stream version and for me anyway the lag is hardly noticeable (60/6 mbps). It seems the same, if not better, than when I stream from x1/ps4 over my local wifi.

The only time I've noticed image degradation is if someone in the house is using netflix and even then it's only for a few seconds before snapping back.

For someone like me who doesn't keep PC hardware updated frequently (my current build was done to max out battlefield 3) this sort of thing is awesome. No storage needs or upgrade costs and I can run modern games at high quality far surpassing what my pc can do.

I don't have a data cap so I don't know how much the stream is using, but if I was capped I'd still have to worry about the initial 50gig dl and any patches.

I could understand if it's not for everyone and don't know how well it'd work with a twitch happy FPS, but for me I seriously would choose a streaming option over local if they could keep this improving.

As a thank you for testing their service and because they don't want you to have played multiple hours and lose everything.

What pisses me off, is that I am playing the Project Stream version but I had already bought it on PC.

So, for me, I get nothing.

But if you didn't buy the game, you get it for free.

It would have been nice if they threw in the Season Pass or even some Helix credits, but nope.

Just curious, if you already bought the game why did you sign up for the test? Just to try out the streaming aspect?

Yep, I was very interested in testing out their streaming tech, which is very impressive.

Even crazier, I own the Gold Edition for Xbox One X. ;)

You may be able to get the Helix credits - you only have the one account and not two, right? The test gives you $10 to spend in the DLC store. While you can't transfer the currency after the test is over, any items you bought in the store should transfer over.

Thank you, the official Ubisoft source is pretty much the source I needed (coming from your link). As I have only been hearing from mayor gaming newspapers that you will get a free copy, yet the email from Google states that you lose your save game and everything after Jan 15th. So it seems like its Ubisoft themselves handing the free copies. Here is the official source from Ubisoft confirming the free copy.

Also for anyone who passed the initial connection test, did you encounter the same test again when trying the game once more?

I lack of a little bit of latency and I am unable to get in because of that reason. I am planning to go to a friend's house who have fiber, open it from there (pass the test) and then see if I can play at home but I am not sure if that works.

It is required at all launches of the session for me.

I don't remember being offered the Helix credits in my PC version.

When I play it on Project Stream, it is like a different account even though it is linked to my Ubi account.

I don't see my PC saves and on my PC, I don't see my PS saves.

The Helix gift seem to only be offered on PS for me. I used it on the XP boost (which in theory, should port over to my PC account) but it hasn't.

Maybe after the trial ends.

I just want a code to sell so I can buy a console version. My PC is lacking. Kinda the reason why to play the PC version I had to stream it.

But they are actually saying, credits will transfer over to your "free" copy, not any PC copy you already own.

Not going to happen. Ubisoft is pretty careful about reselling their keys nowadays.

If you get a code with a graphics card, you better be rocking that graphics card or it won't install.

In this case, they have your Ubi account and will just add the license to it, no key to activate or anything.

And come on, you can get the game on console for $25-$30 this week, which is an absolute steal for this game.

No doubt, but backlog wisdom tells me that unless I’m willing to stop everything to play Odyssey right now, then I shouldn’t buy it for more than $20, preferably lower. Otherwise I have a game in plastic depreciating in value.
 
Got accepted to Beta when game released but never did login and try it. Good reason to do it now maybe. (Gamefly simultaneously sent me both xbox and PS4 copies on release too, so I had my choice of platform, lol)
 
Overall I was pretty impressed by the Project Stream play, it definitely has too much latency for a twitch shooter, but for Odyssey it worked pretty well. At this point I'm just waiting out for the free copy though to gain some QOL benefits on my hardware

I got the Pegasus horse skin. Dunno what else to get with my remaining credits, but from my googling it appears you get the most value going with the XP booster or Pegasus. Pegasus isn't just cosmetic, it prevents any fall damage and your horse doesn't fall over. Plus it looks pretty cool. I'm probably the only one to care about how to best use the credits though

I went with the up, seemed to generally be the best agreed upon choice that improves the overall game experience
 
Just a reminder that the 15th is approaching, and according to an email that just went out:

"The free PC copy will be granted approximately two weeks following the end of the technical test."

 
Got into the test. Worked good enough but streaming just isn’t for me (and I’m on a wired gigabit internet). Ran smooth but I didn’t see any graphics settings. Looking forward to playing the game when/if I get my free copy.
