I got excited after I heard his name in the trailer, so I decided to hop online to find out more about this movie, which so reminded me of 'Saw.' To my surprise, I couldn't find much about Quentin and 'Hostel' relating to each other.

I guess I should read the fine print next time. But my question is, is what does Mr. Tarantino have to do with this film, if he didn't write or direct it? Did he 'guest-direct' a portion, similar to Sin City?

He executive produced it.
Just like he got a Tarantino Presents: for Hero for a producing credit.
Eh. He puts his name on stuff he likes to generate interest for it. I'm not against it as such, but only because he's put his name on mostly good stuff so far. I'm sure he'll start Wes Cravening it up sooner or later, though.

I enjoy Eli Roth's direction and his other film "Cabin Fever". I wasn't planning on seeing "Hostel" until I heard that Roth wrote and directed it.

shar jackson is k-feds old baby momma:

I really liked Cabin Fever, mostly because Rider Strong (Shawn) from Boys Meets World was in the movie.

Quentin Tarantino is like Muhammad ali if he sucked. See tarantino got were he is by running his mouth and then he had to back it up so he changed some camera angles and a few lights then talked more shit about himself. Then people were like wow this guys great, and shar jackson is fugly IMO.

Now I don't hate him at all. I have no problem with him, I just get tired of everyone hyping his movies (see above) some of his stuff is good some is not. I catch most of his movies on tv or rental.

I agree 100%, probably one of the most overrated directors of the new generation IMO and especially the most overhyped (he's only actually made about 4 films people). He whores his name out to get attention too which is something I don't like about him and by doing so he somehow gets recognition for crap he didn't even do anything for besides slap his name all over it. It took weeks to convince some people he didn't direct, write, produce, or even come near Hero.

Also for the record I thought Cabin Fever was mediocre at best so I'm not getting my hopes up for this at all, may not even bother to catch it in the theater.

that's a pretty good porn star name...

I think I have seen every episode of Boy Meets World and I have never thought of that. That easily deserves a

Thank you for brightening my day!

Did you guys actually watch Resevoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and the first half of From Dusk Till Dawn? These movies changed what I expected to see when I went into a movie theatre. I was perfectly happy watching assembly line action and horror movies until he decided to mix it all up. Resevoir Dogs is an action movie with about 10 minutes of actual action in it. The diologue is awesome. Who thought a bunch of guys arguing about a tipping could be funny as hell but make you think afterwards. It made me think even more when Pulp Fiction started in a small coffee shop also. Well, I guess you guys have figured out I'm a Tarantino fanboy by now.

as others have said, tarantino has nothing to do with the film, besides liking it.

from what i have read, "hostel" is supposed to be much better than "cabin fever" is, and the movie is supposed to be a bit like roth's reaction to some of the japanese horror films of recent times, among other things. takashi miike even has a cameo in "hostel".

here's a spoiler free paragraph taken from here: http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/003575.html
In the end, Hostel is best of breed in American horror film. It pushes the genre away from the typical dreck for PG-13 horror being foisted on the multiplexes just because it makes money to an undiscriminating audience. Hostel is smart enough to mock the past two decades of American Horror cinema without descending into post-modern parody. It plays the situation straight and means business. Roth proves adept at integrating the some elements of 1970s American horror, as well liberal dashes of European and Japanese flavour, while still making it feel like his own and also quite accessible.
all that being said, i'm not expecting a whole lot from the film, but i do intend on seeing it in the theater.

Just so everyone knows, an executive producer credit means shit in Hollywood. Big stars put their name on it and get paid for it and it usually draws in a couple extra people.

Tarantino had virtually nothing to do with this, so if you're going to see it for him, you'll be disappointed.

The Executive producer is the man who finances the movie. I wouldn't say he has nothing to do with this movie. He's the money man.

That's all well and good, but it's basically another horror homage film from a writer/director who fell far short of impressing me with his first horror homage film (and he also hasn't made any other major films). I don't really care if a horror film is gory either, to me include violence and gore just for the sake of it just shows a basic lack of creativity. Miike movies have flashes of brillance at times but generally fall into that category.

I don't mean to the judge the film too much without seeing it first though and again this is all just my opinion so nobody has to listen to me at all but I just am personally not expecting to be that great or buying the hype.
Looks to me like a movie about tourting people. I think you are a sick person if you go to see it. Just my two cents.
I wouldn't go that far, but I really would rather not see what looks like girl's toes being cut off with bolt cutters. Not my idea of entertainment.

He puts his name on stuff so that smaller movies get more attention. I'm sure they can't hype this movie like king kong so they put a known name on it and hope that it will do better.

I mean really how long was Hero out before it came to the states ? I have no problem with Tarantino using his name to promote smaller movies that wouldn't normally pull a wide audience.

I actually hear Hostel has some funny parts to go along with it's gore.
that's a pretty good porn star name...
Haha, someone mentioned that at another board in a thread discussing real names which sounded like porn star names.

Anyhoo... Hostel looks good, but I'm not sure I can stomach the graphic removal of limbs... and Shar Jackson looks likea Wes Craven movie villain. Bitch almost makes my dick invert.

this movie looks great ive heard early reviews that its amazing we will see.

quentin is a lil over rated he has some classics under his belt but some crapfests as well.

Hes whoring himself out way to much now ..is he realy dating that pig?
u would think he would be able to get a better looking black girl even tho he looks like frankenstein.

Cabin Fever was awful. I was actually pissed off when I finished watching it. I realized I had wasted all that time thinking it might get better - and it never did.

I don't understand all the buzz around Roth after releasing one mediocre "horror" movie.

Tarantino has his name on a movie called Detriot 5000 (I think that's what it's called).
What a bad crap movie.
Huge fan though.
Everything he touches is gold.

From Dusk til Dawn... Hero... now this Hostel crap?

Tarantino.. STOP. Stop being pretentious. I think it's admirable how you got your start in movies. You are a lucky man and a passable director. You are not a good producer. You are a shit actor.

Just go direct another psycho-crazu killer movie so we can all be happy.

I think its great that he gets movies like Hero which was an awesome movie, now i can't wait to see hostel, i love all types of movies including ones that are really gory.

He did nothing, they are just slapping his name to it the same way they did with the Jet Li film Hero which was released in China/Hong Kong almost 2 full years before it was released here in the US...
I mean really how long was Hero out before it came to the states ?

Almost 2 years, I had the official chinese DVD a month after its original China/Hong kong release.

I agree w/ KingDox. Why is everyone shittin' on Tarantino? So what if he's made only 4 or so movies? Except for Jackie Brown, they were well received for the most part. Plus, I agree that if it helps advertise movies unlikely to be seen in the US w/o some publicity, then what's the big deal? I don't see this as being different than a famous actor/sports athlete shilling a product - all that person is doing is promoting the product so why does Tarantino get singled out for doing so? Is he 'selling out' in some way? I doubt it since it's just promoting a movie that he likes.
Looks to me like a movie about tourting people. I think you are a sick person if you go to see it. Just my two cents.
Oh yeah, everyone that goes to see this movie is a sick person. What a stupid statement to make. People like you really piss me off. You're probably a hardcore liberal, vegetarian, member of PETA who has to give their "two cents" about everything, even though people don't want to hear what you have to say. I loved the Saw movies and I'm going to watch this tomorrow night and I'm sure I'll love this movie. I'm a perfectly normal person. I don't go around torturing people, I'm not a serial killer. You have to remember, this is just a movie. People who go to see this movie are going to see just that, a movie. We're not going to see a real life torture. We're not going to a serial killer rally. Making the statement you made is like saying that only comedians can go to comedic movies...
looks like they just ripped SAW off to me. it be on DVD within 3 months so why waste 10 bucks
where the hell do u live? it costs that much for a movie ticket. i'd never pay that price. it costs 6.50 here and i don't consider that to be a good deal.

Of course they can't hype it like king Kong (that's why it's being released in Jan.), and to be fair King Kong probably wouldn't have the all the same hype if it wasn't directed by Peter Jackson, made by his studio, or the high budget remake of a cinema classic either. it should be noted that Tarantino is widely believed by many to be one of the reasons that Hero took forever to get here. He did do a bit of a service to keep Miramax from cutting by attaching his name (no it wasn't his decision to bring it over IIRC), however that caused some delays (they released an edited cut in Europe in late 2003 I think, we waited almost another year) and his (supposedly) requesting it to be stalled until Kill Bill was out made for a very long wait.

Hardcore liberal - swing and miss
Vegetarian - strike 2
member of PETA - that's 3.

But seriously, I do think you're sick if you see this movie. Horror movies are one thing, but when a movie advertises (in my opinion) nothing but tourture...yuck.

I think it's funny that I pissed you off with that statement. But if you want to make any really broad generalizations I'd go with this one...Only Carrot Top goes to Carrot Top movies.

I screened this movie last night. I won't give any spoilers or anything, but I will say that it is more gory than both Saw films combined.

Oh ok I give you a spoiler......

There are lots of scenes with drugs, sex, and tiggle bitties!

This movie was fucking terrible. Gimme a break... I just got done seeing it.

.. just a pointless movie. That's about the best I could describe it. It's basically just a worse version of Texas Chainsaw Massacare (minus hottie Jessica Alba): A group of people visit a town, where there's this mass murder/torturing going on, the whole town is in on it, they get taken to the mass murder/torturing place, then one character defeats his torturer, then has to escape with another character from the mass murder/torture place from the townsfolk who are chasing them, End of movie.

For you sicktards yeah it's pretty gross/disturbing but for some reason I recall Saw 2 being a more "disturbing" movie in the way the people die.

Uhhh tickets most places are in that range. It's $8.25 here in friggin South Dakota. A lot of cities' prices are quite abit above $10.

I didn't like Cabin Fever, but I'm going to see this tonight. Basically because one of my friends wants to see it and I left my car at his place when I went to Mexico. Easy way to get it back.

You'll see his name on just about any movie that the producers want to get a little push in sales, the cover box & special features on sonatine is more quinten tarentinos face and PRESENTS than actual content, its just damned annoying.

This movie looks like more garbage, it figures they would snatch on to the right to say quinten tarentinos name on the commercials to get anybody interested.

$9.75 here in Vegas. $7.25 matinee.

"Pompus White Director with Yellow fever Brings over foreign Film"

Iron monkey? =p............. I don't see investors always claiming credit pls...

Jessica Alba wasn't in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Perhaps you mean Jessica Biel?

Or maybe you just REALLY misspelled "Jonathan Tucker"; but then I'd have to question your deployment of the term 'hottie.'
