All players who purchased the Black Pack will be reimbursed automatically.* The Black Pack will be posted Saturday June 30th and will be free of charge. Also, as a token of our appreciation for the Rainbow Six community, we are making the Red Pack free as of Friday July 6th as well. Thanks for playing and we hope you enjoy this free content.’

Make sure your account information is up to date so we can properly apply the credit!

It seems the single player demo for Rainbow Six: Vegas won’t be exclusively available to OXM readers after all. In an official press release Ubisoft stated that the demo will be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace October 23rd. This is a month earlier than expected, but I’m sure nobody will object.

Kicking off the countdown to the game's release, Ubisoft announced today that a single player playable demo of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas for the Xbox 360 will be made available to consumers. The Xbox 360 demo will be available exclusively this month as part of the December issue of Official Xbox Magazine in the U.S., on sale at newsstands on October 24th. Update 7/13: Vegas Mayor wants to prevent game from releasing

Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman is taking exception to the setting of another Tom Clancy game, Ubisoft's upcoming Rainbow Six Vegas. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Goodman has an issue with the game's plot, which sees terrorists taking over a swanky casino on the city's Strip and seizing a number of hostages.
Goodman reportedly said the game was "based on a false premise," adding he has been repeatedly told by government officials that Las Vegas is "the safest place imaginable" when it comes to terrorist attacks. The mayor also said he'll look into whether or not the city can prevent the game from being released. "It could be harmful economically, and it may be something that's not entitled to free speech [protection]," Goodman is quoted as saying.

EDIT: 3/6 its funny how IGN covered this before Ubisoft could officially reveal it.

Here's the details:

Monday 03.06.06 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas!
UBISOFT GOES ALL-IN WITH TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX® VEGAS FOR NEXT-GENERATION CONSOLES!

SAN FRANCISCO - MARCH 6, 2006 - Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that it is developing Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas for next-generation and current-generation video game consoles. Scheduled for a fall 2006 release and developed by Ubisoft's award-winning Montreal studio, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas is the fifth iteration of the multimillion-selling Rainbow Six tactical shooter franchise.

The stakes are high when the world's most elite counter-terrorism unit enters Las Vegas, where over 36.7 million men, women and children visit each year. "Sin City," the home of the famous Las Vegas Strip, flashy hotels, high-rolling casinos and world-famous celebrities, becomes the setting for a terrorist threat of global proportions. What happens when one of the world's most famous cities is held hostage by terrorists? Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas will be Team Rainbow's next-generation console debut on the heels of the critically acclaimed Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™ and the highly anticipated Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent™. Today, with more than 13.5 million units sold worldwide, the Rainbow Six franchise is known as one of the best multiplayer experiences and is hailed for its immersive single-player games.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas will push the envelope of technology through graphics, artificial intelligence, physics and animations created by Ubisoft's award-winning Montreal studios, which house some of the world's best talent, including Senior Producer Chadi Lebbos who was the lead on Rainbow Six 3®.

"Rainbow Six is back and better than ever," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft. "Building upon the online success of the Rainbow Six franchise and harnessing the power of the next-generation experience, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas will be the benchmark against which all next-generation games will be measured. With Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter being released this month to wide critical acclaim, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent also due out this year, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas makes it a perfect trifecta for the Clancy series in 2006."

Rainbow Six fans will be pleased to know that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas is featured in a world-exclusive first-look in the April issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, available on newsstands March 14, 2006.

Update 3/13: EGM info:

- the game has been in development for nearly 2 years now
- after the debacle known as Suckdown...I mean Lockdown, development was taken away from Red Storm and given to Ubi-Montreal
- you will play as one character, don't ask me his name because I didn't care to remember it - all I remember is that it was some generic tough-guy white man name (Ding Chavez does make a return though)
- you will have 2 or 3 teammates who will have unique (ie, "cliche") personalities
- the game will be presented using the "Half-Life" (yes that is exactly what they said) style of storytelling using only the first-person perspective and no cutscenes (not that there were very many cutscenes in the previous games anyway)
- the game will have lots of destructability/interactivity in the environments and you will be able to do stuff like rappel down the sides of buildings and fast-rope out of choppers
- it appears that there will be no pre-mission planning phase (just like Suckdown) rather you will issue commands "on-the-fly" (like in Raven Shield)
- it will be a more "cinematic" presentation as your teammates will engage in conversations and ARGUE during the missions
- game is not using any form of the Unreal engine that previous R6 games used nor is it using the GR:AW engine, it's using its own graphics engine.
- THE GAME WILL FEATURE A "HALO-STYLE" HEALTH SYSTEM WHERE YOU WILL RECOVER YOUR HEALTH IF YOU STAY OUT OF THE ACTION FOR A BIT!!!

Quotes of interest:

"So, what should you expect? Less dying, for one: The Team is adding a Halo-style health system, whereby avoiding fire will give you time to heal, meaning you'll ultimately spend less time picking "Retry Mission" from a menu screen."

"Ubisoft has brought the new game back in-house at Rainbow Six 3's original studio in Montreeal and has thrown a team of 150 people at the title, wich has been in development since 2004."

"Gameplay will be very cat-and-mouse, kills will not come easy."

"Blind fire and "no look" suppressing fire will be important components as well; the action switches to a third-person, over-the-shoulder camera during these moments, much like in 360 launch title Perfect Dark Zero."

"As mentioned before, the game is also no longer limited to solid ground. With so much of Las Vegas towering some 80 stories above street level, the city provides countless opportunities to scale up and rappel down buildings. Standard rappelling, fast roping (quickly sliding down a rope, slowing the fall with only clenched hands), and inverted rappelling (also known as Australian rappelling)"

EDIT: This latest info comes from what I found in other forums....

Well duh. Gamepro blew the lid off that one in their preview for Ghost Recon. They mentioned how they decided to delay Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six 360 and go with Ghost Recon first this time.

So is this just going to be an announcement that they are making the game or are they going to spring a suprise release date on us?
So is this just going to be an announcement that they are making the game or are they going to spring a suprise release date on us?
I'm hoping its some sort of surprise and not just "Rainbow Six is being developed for XBOX 360..."

The news of a next gen Rainbow Six has been floating around for a while, it was in last months GamePro and the current EGM's preview for April's issue.
So this won't be just a 360 version of Critical Hour?
I was worried it was going to be similiar to the Far Cry 360 game, something like Lockdown (minus all the features fans complained about) and Critical Hour.

I wonder if Ubi is taking the franchise in a new direction, I believe John Clark is retiring during the course of Critical Hour. Ding is supposed to be in charge of the group, so we'll see.

ok, I've had very limited experiences with Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six...this may sound dumb but how does the gameplay vary between the two? I've heard of some people not like one but preferring the other?
ok, I've had very limited experiences with Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six...this may sound dumb but how does the gameplay vary between the two? I've heard of some people not like one but preferring the other?
Ghost Recon - Distance, outdoor combat
Rainbow Six - close, indoor combat

Thats the two basic differences.

I hope this has the PEC mode (ala-Lockdown and Critical Hour).

Excited, either way.

As long as the Lockdown gameplay is scrapped...I will be ALL over this.

I love the Vegas setting.

Suck on that Killzone 2 MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH... Seriously though those images fucking rock. I'm not a huge fan of the series and when I say that I mean I don't buy the game when it hits shelves. I do own a few of the games, most recent RB6 3, but the direction Clancy is going by immersing the player into Vegas is outstanding. I guess this means Clancy will reign in squad base games for at least another gen.:)

New EGM states that there's a recharging health system in it, similar to Halo.

I'm not looking forward to it anymore.. especially after Lockdown.

Recharging health system? For Halo it makes sense because your wearing an armor suit, for the characters in R6 it doesn't make sense. This rainbow team must have superpowers.
Recharging health system? For Halo it makes sense because your wearing an armor suit, for the characters in R6 it doesn't make sense. This rainbow team must have superpowers.
Vegas has magical powers ;)

You know what they say...."What happens in Vegas......"
Vegas has magical powers ;)

You know what they say...."What happens in Vegas......"
LOL, that is very true. I wonder if they will incorporate any type of side games for the hell of it since it will be in vegas. Side games like blackjack, poker, callgirls, etc... That would be just as ridiculous in this game as their magical recharging powers are.

New EGM states that there's a recharging health system in it, similar to Halo.

WHAT??? They better have a damn good explanation for this.

I didn't care when CoD2 did it, but CoD and Rainbow Six are played totally different, so now Im pissed. Unless one of your guys comes over and heals you, it's fucking stupid.
