Ever wanted to donate money to a charity but too cheap ass to do it? Then buy a pink DS Lite where ALL THE PROFITS will go towards the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Support a fantastic cause that is dedicated to fighting this deadly disease.
This week only at Target, all profits from Pink DS Lite’s sold will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That’s right, 100%. This is an excellent charity, every year they save thousands of women, you know your money’s going to a good cause. This would be a fantastic time to buy yourself, your girlfriend, your mom, your sister, or your little cousin, a brand new DS Lite.
You can buy it online as well and profits will still go towards the Foundation, as noted by the ribbon insignia in the picture.
It's a shame that "all the profits" from selling a DS lite is somewhere in the area of $4.
I know.

We should just not do it then.

fuck helping people.

I think $4 is optimistic.

umm are u retarded?
umm are u retarded?
the meaning of profit is not what you think it is, "retard". Way to make a positive contribution to the site...
umm are u retarded?
no, he's familiar with how retail stores work. he undershot by maybe ten bucks, but otherwise it's a valid point. still, a little is better than nothing.

edit: and take the one extra second and actually spell out the word "you." especially if you're going to call someone a retard (for something you apparently know little about) right after it.

It's true that the profits are very small, but if you're going to buy a pink DS, that's a great reason to get it at Target instead of elsewhere. Of course, those of us who like neither pink systems nor cancer are a bit out of luck.

I don't think anyone likes cancer...
I don't think anyone likes cancer...
Beat me to the punch. I myself cannot think of a single person who likes cancer.

Anyway, $4 or not, it's still an incentive to buy your pink DS at Target if you at all wanted one. Nice post, OP.

If 4,000 people in the US buy a single pink DS Lite and the profits donated really does amount to $4 a DS, then the Breast Cancer Foundation will have $16,000 to help women in need. Even if it helps just one person, at least you know you actually helped somebody.

Edit: Hahaha whoops, $16,000. I'm tired
The ad says they will donate atleast $75,000. Why would any say Shaq-Fu helping anyone?
Actually it's at least $175,000.

That would be $16,000. :D

But yeah, if people want one, they might as well pick it up at there. It's not like the price is any different.
I know.

That's not what he meant and you know it.

Man they only make $4 (give or take) per DS? It's a wonder how companies like Wal-Mart or Target are billion dollar industries considering even buying in bulk, like DS for $125.99 and sell it for $129.99, it still is not much.
That's not what he meant and you know it.
But is that what I meant?

You're big tough moderator, so you tell me.

Well $175,000 is better then nothing. You hardly ever see the video game industry spend money on helping people. Well, Mr. Gates does.

Yeah, those Penny Arcade punks dont do anything.

My bad!!! But name some others in this big money industry? I mean if we are going to bash Target for donating $4 a DS. Why not bash the non helpers out there.

Why bash anybody at all? There's no need to force anybody into buying a DS Lite if they don't want to, and at least Target is donating SOMETHING.

Wow - so much for the spirit of "giving" and, I don't know, "caring" like this thread was originally designed for - especially about buying video games which have little history of philanthropy. It's really disgusting that people would squabble over something like $4 and say it's pointless, especially when it goes to a cause that will affect some of the family members or friends on this board (It's a statistical certainty).

And who knows, maybe someone's DS Lite donation could be the $4 that pays the salary of the scientist who finds the cure/vaccine for it. Perish the thought!!!

I support the help. I work in the medical field, the things I have seen. My daughter wants a pink DS for her birthday.

Or if people still think $4 is not enough, then make an actual donation of some monetary value that you think is substantial! For crying out loud!!!

I already own a DS Lite and at the moment don't have the funds to get one, so the least I can do is spread the word around in a few other forums I post in.

Or, forget about the lame pink ds and donate 15 dollars to a breast cancer charity. 15 dollars and save 115 for yourself.

*Seems to be only person on this website that can sense sarcasm*
Yeah, those Penny Arcade punks dont do anything.
That was Jack Thompson. Didn't you read the name on the check?

I rather buy a black one on sale or a "phat" one for even cheaper and just give $15 to the cancer fund.

I know a school mate who's mom died of lung cancer, she was never the same after that. If people can spend all that time, effort, and money to buy games, I'm sure donating like 10 bucks to some charity organization will be easy.

Perfect timing!

1. Its mine and my gf's anniversary in one week and she actually wants a pink ds lite (not really a big gamer)

2. This deal makes me donate to a worthy cause.

3. I get to use the ds lite when she gets sick of it = I win :)

since some people aren't psyched at the idea of only a small amount of their purchase goes to the cancer thingy, just donate your cash directly, if you really want to help. i'm sure there's numerous avenues for this sort of donation.

It would be awesome if Nintendo engraved the Target shipment of their pink ds's with the cancer ribbon. But then again they could just donate money. But a promo DS would be pretty cool if you didn't have an affinity towards pink.

haha, great heading OP.

and why are people being such assholes about this? haha since when did "Cheap ass gamer" become "Cheap asshole gamer"? It seems like if anyone posts anything about anything the resident peanut gallery comes in and tears it apart for not being a good enough deal, or an accidental repost, or having a typo. It's about games and deals people. Games and deals and love. ;)

I think it's pretty cool of target to do this. I'm sure nintendo has something to do with this too since they've been making a huge push for the female demographic.

I read the few negative remarks to be sarcastic/joking. I think people are overracting.

Well, I know what I'll be giving my wife for Christmas this year.

To those who have said they don't want a pink DS and would rather just donate directly to breast cancer research, that's a fine idea as well. Here's some contact info to help you do just that:

National Breast Cancer Foundation
2600 Network Boulevard
Suite 300
Frisco, TX 75034

972-248-9200

The Avon Foundation

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

All very worthy of your donations. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so there's no better time to make a donation and/or talk up the subject with other people in your life. :applause: to Ecofreak for starting this thread.

Actually, the print ad states: This week Target and Nintendo will donate 100% of the profits...

So if Nintendo makes 50.00 per unit *just a guess* how much money are we talking about now?

I was just about to post the same comment. It sounds like it's Nintendo's profit too. That would make it a lot more money.

Like many CAGs I've been waiting for price drop (not likely this year  ) or a deal - something free included in the package, which could happen around Black Friday. But I might do this instead.

I'm also participating in a walk in a couple weeks to raise money for breast cancer research through the American Cancer Society. If you'd like to sponsor me you can PM me for details.

Or just go to www.cancer.org/ and click on Donate Now to donate directly to the American Cancer Society.

A lot of companies are fighting the good fight and releasing gadgets in pink that help fund breast cancer research. So as on on-going part of breast cancer awareness month, Target will be donating 100 percent of the profits from pink DS Lite purchases to breast cancer research. Now is a better time than ever to pick up a pink DS Lite—remember guys, you can use pink stuff now because it is an "in" look. – Travis Hudson

on a side note, i was wondering if its possible to even count this as a sort of charitable expense or something and write this off on your tax return for next years taxes. hey, a free ds is always good :) plus your money goes to a great cause.

Nice - retailers and manufacturers are really starting to rally around this very worthy cause. I hope the profit is at least 10%...

You can only take the deduction if you get nothing in return, OR you can only deduct the amount that was donated - which considering the % discount for new video game stuff is 10-15%.
