If you pre-order Dragon's Crown from "participating stores" (most likely the ones listed on the pre-order page, such as Amazon, GameStop, etc.), you'll get a free 64-page artbook:

The book includes illustrations of the characters, environments, and commissions from artists Akira Yasuda (Darkstalkers, Marvel vs. Capcom), Kinu Nishimura (Code of Princess, Virtue’s Last Reward), and Gouda Cheese AKA BENGUS (Super Street Fighter II, Darkstalkers).

The game will be available August 10th. Important thing to note is that you can only play online with people who have it for the same system you do, so you can't go online with your Vita to play with PS3 owners & vice versa. However, you can still transfer your saves if you own both versions of the game.

Yeah, the Samsung thing's almost entirely rolled out already. The Panasonic and MS thing is the kind of partnership I was talking about where they get paid big fees to use the floor space that's losing them money. Also if you go to any of the stores that have been having resets lately you'll see that they're basically removing media and clearing out almost everything that comprised the middle of the store except cell phones, cameras, and the Samsung shop.
Yeah the store near me has a giant rectangular counter set up in the middle of the store for cell phone's

im loving the game but really wish they would patch online so its not so damn laggy.
The Japanese got a patch yesterday to make the online more stable (remember, you could be playing with Asians) and the power to select where you're going online. I don't know if this means host, but it seems more like a free stable.

Yep, my Best Buy was already a smaller store so now with the manufacturers purchasing floor space it's movies and games have shrunk even more, to the point that it is barely worth trying to look for something that isn't either a blockbuster or that has been released in the past month or two.

While this is likely to be the case, history shows that most Atlus titles are never SUPER available. Most older titles are now somewhat difficult to come by. No means is it impossible.

I am just saying I have a feeling this game may not have stockpiles in stores like many other titles haha
I think this is one those games where in our little bubble of internet gaming it seems like there's a lot of demand but if you step back you realize that the other people who don't pay attention to gaming really probably aren't even aware of the game. There's nothing about it that really appeals to the masses and there's no PR behind it beyond gaming websites so most probably will never have any knowledge it even exists.

This. Persona 4 the Golden is another great example of this.

i agree, tons of games gets praises/hype on this forum, but outside of our little bubble. Call of duty/madden/ assassins creed is what people really care about, or go for. Even if dragons crown end up being rare, only people like us are going to pay a preieum , or search hard for the game.

this video here sums up the typical view/attitude toward any japanese type/niche games.

And 3D Dot Heroes! haha

There are plenty of Atlus games like that.

I remember Super Dodgeball Advance back in the day too hahah
Well 3D Dot Game heroes doesn't usually get mentioned, where as gaming news sites / CAG act like it's a game capable of saving the Vita. Just yesterday I saw someone bitching about how Sony didn't market that or Killzone: Mercenaries. Ignoring a lot of the errors in that statement... does anyone here honestly believe that P4 has the same potential as Killzone? Declassified sure (that got ads too), but Persona 4 the Golden?!

i think ni no kuni is probably the most popular japanese niche/jrpg game. lol
Tales of or Persona.

i forgot to add this year 2013, lol ni no kuni is the most popular jrpg /niche game this year. even my friends who loathe playing jrpg, knows about. The wizards edition are still holding up in prices. Playcanada still has not sold out the wizards edition they have. lol

In that case it's too early to say.

Ni no Kuni had a very popular anime studio behind it and years of hype prior. It would be like getting the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia in the US finally. Also, we still have Tales of Xillia / Persona 4 / SMT IV / FE: A and finally Disgaea D2 that could possible over take that title this year.

True, and I bet the masses would enjoy this type of game. Great couch co-op fun like the old arcade beatem ups along with great artwork.

I haven't bought Dragon's Crown yet I'm going to try to get it on sale. Hopefully it won't become rare and hard to find because that will just make it more expensive.

I honestly don't know if most non-gamers are aware of anything that isn't named Final Fantasy. Having worked at BBY for a number of years and trying to sell games that were equally as loved as Ni No Kuni to the common folk was hard. All they wanted was FF if they wanted an RPG at all. Then again to further illustrate it was beyond hard even getting people to pick up the Uncharted games despite them wanting an action movie like experience and those being exactly the kind of games that should have mass appeal.

I'm glad they didn't go this route but they could have totally sold the bro market with some simple "BRO! LOOK BRO! IT'S HITTING THINGS IN THE FACE WITH HER JIGGLE!" marketing.

i doubt it, the bro market would be too busy making immature comments about all the boobs, and ass in dragons crown. to actually spend their $60 on it. They will be too hype for the next call of duty ghost, with preorder bonus. or madden/ nba 2k14 release. lol

There is always the digital version, which will 100% go on sale at some point.

That would have been priceless, since it would have just made all the baseless / stupid controversy accurate. Also what BBY did you work at anyway?

I can't imagine they would talk about it in the first place. Even if they do market it, they would still need to be in that demographic and I can't imagine Atlus fronting the bill to get an ad on during an NFL game or something.

Digital version, no way.  I want the physical copy.

I've made a few exceptions for outstanding digital only games like Mark of the Ninja and Shadow Complex.

My copy of the Vita version showed up this morning from Amazon before I went to work. The game and the art book were shrink wrapped together. Funny thing - I didn't put my pre-order in until Monday, and I used free saver shipping.

It varies. I pre-ordered my copy back in May, and they only shipped it yesterday, a day after it was supposed to release. I'm expecting it to arrive in the next few days. I also used free super saver. For some other orders I've made, they shipped the item the same day I ordered them, and I had the item in hand within 24 hours. If you aren't paying for next-day delivery, the actual arrival is a bit of a crap-shoot. They usually get it within the expected time-frame, but where it actually lands within that time-frame is completely up in the air.

How is that funny?

Monday was before the release date, so yes you preordered it and Amazon lists that all orders will come with the artbook.

It was the fact that it came in the mail before the 12th and that GameStop couldn't guarantee me a copy of the art book when I went there last Saturday to pre-order.

wow, i also used free shipping option 5-8 days, mine still has not been shipped yet, and i preordered last monday. lol

thanks YBX87. I posted on the BBY forum lets see what happens. It seems no one got any artbooks at all from BBY. But hell, i havent even got my game. Has anyone here who ordered from BBY got their copy?

I see mention of Amazon still offering an artbook I think i may just order an extra copy online and see if i get an artbook since its looking like i will be canceling my BBY order. Question though: Which one would probably be rarer: the vita or PS3 version? This would be my extra copy. I need to order a few games anyway with my 3ds screen protector order so they dont ship it in a friggin envelope.

Vita, but I doubt this will actually be an impossible to find game.

try private message bill-bby, the poster who posted on the link i gave. he is the gaming specialist. remember to gave him your order number info, and rewardzone number. so he can look it up for you. He took care of my issues everytime, when i private message him. It might take a few days. the ps3 version is the better version.

oh i did, thanks again for the link. I went back and forth a few times. He says it looks like the people didn't even pre-order the game right and they have none in store or on the way.... fantastic. I do recall the guy was clueless when i brought the slip up. He called a manager over who was equally clueless. It took like 15 minutes to friggin ring me up. Hes looking into it but this is why the degredation of the gaming department sucks so bad. Not only is the selection dwindling, but no one knows wtf is going on anymore.

we'll see if i even get the game, but its looking like im probably screwed with the artbook. I hope i get some money back or a giftcard or something. I certainly wont be pre-ordering from BBY anymore

lol, i guess this sour your experience with preordering at bestbuy, especially it being your first time preordering from them. Maybe if with this issue/ complaint about your specific store, maybe some changes will happen there.

Got my order from amazon today that I ordered late tuesday night, not a pre-order, and it came with art book.  Perfect condition.

After reading through so much of this bloody topic, I don't get why people didn't just pre-order from Gamestop or Amazon? I get it for Newegg (because of the discount) but why do BBY when the artbook cluster muck could happen? If it's Day 1 MSRP, why not just go somewhere that is guarenteed to have it and is the most likely to get the bonus?

Credit (trade ins, promos like preorders, not wanting to support GameStop)

Distance (some people live closer to a BB)

Not wanting to deal with shipping

etc

A lot of that is certainly valid, but there's always another game to use that credit on. Plus, Gamestop's are as bad as Starbucks, so I would guess that any area with a Best Buy probably has 3-5 Gamestops within 5-10 miles. You just see this type of thing so often in these threads, and it's usually avoidable.

if you actually read the thread, some gamestops did not have enough artbooks to cover preorders either. the only safe bet was amazon in this case.

I guess I missed those instances in the sea of "My Gamestop got so many that they're using them as ass wipe" sentiment. lol

it would be funny if amazon literally took all the preorder artbook shipment from other retailers like gamestop, bestbuy.

Depends the credit. Reward zone certs expire and some people might want a thing or two. They could always buy Amazon gift cards, but we can really get into an endless debate of what is right and what is wrong. In the end, YMMV exists for a reason.

I wouldn't say that is true or untrue. A lot of GameStops HAD these art books, though what happened between my first post on the matter and the others is anyones guess. It's entirely possible (though not likely) that fans rushed out to get their to avoid the drama (as I did) or maybe GameStop recalled them or maybe they were lost / people were told to give them to people who preorder first (as stupid as this sounds if they got a surplus).

I guess I missed those instances in the sea of "My Gamestop got so many that they're using them as ass wipe" sentiment. lol
This is a huge reason why CAG exists in the first place and why arguments happen. A week ago I was claiming they would be super common because a few locations near me had a lot of them, my friend said his store got a lot of them and others claimed they saw a lot of them. There was also talk of Amazon having them (still do apparently) and someone mentioned that the BB store listing mentioned them. A lot of people would have never guessed this fiasco would happen, nor do we know what the outcome might be. We COULD be looking at another print run, which is something Atlus did with Demon Souls. Who knows, but this is why you want to always act fast.

Picked this up at gamestop today. When I called the guy on the phone said they only had 2 left. Went to the store, looks like only 1 or two games was left, meaning the last copy was gutted i'm guessing. But they had a stack of like 8 artbooks. I got a sealed copy and asked for the artbook, he asked if I preordered and I said no. He almost wasn't going to give it to me but then he said, I'll give you a copy. What the heck else would he do with them? Horde them? This is the same guy who told me they had a couple Gear of War sets with statue and when I showed up and he checked the computer he saw they were being sold as used and he changed his story so he and his fellow employee could snag them.

Either way, the Gamestop at Sunnyside has a few artbook if you're looking. Wanted to give the fellow NYCAG's a heads up.

And whoever has the vita version, add me please. I'll rock this game out with you.

Most GS employees snag preorder sutf all the time, then use someone else to flip it on eBay. It used to be if they were caught selling anything on eBay they lost their job. Cause you know, they give killer discounts to the employees.

I was one of the unfortunate people who ordered from newegg.com and lost out on the bonus artbook.

However, I did reach out to Amazon Customer Service and it's noted that if you place an order today, you should still get the artbook. They said that in the event that you do not receive the book, we can go back to customer service about it.

URL:

http://www.amazon.com/Dragons-Crown-Playstation-3/dp/B007V9QKH0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376004535&sr=8-1&keywords=dragon%27s+crown

In the description of the product page, it says it will be included with the order (in bold).

  • A nearly endless cooperative online action RPG: Dragon's Crown allows up to four players to team up online to clear out monster-ridden dungeons, discover precious treasure, and destroy awe-inspiring bosses.
  • Stunning HD visual design from the makers of Odin Sphere: Unparalleled in their unique style, developer Vanillaware painstakingly hand-paints every detail, be it a blade of grass or the scales on the game's impressive dragons.
  • The 64-page art book (Dragons Crown Artworks) will be included.
So if you were one of the unfortunate newegg purchasers, you can still do a refund (15% restocking fee does not apply as long as it was not opened yet) and place an order with Amazon today (if you really want the artbook). Be sure to go through newegg customer service to request the refund, you can't do it through the website. I used their live chat.

I've placed my Amazon order today.

I hope this helps CAGs who really wanted the book.
