I started reading the Count of Monte Cristo again.  I got about a third of the way through it a few years ago, but stopped reading it for whatever reason.  I'm really enjoying it so far and hopefully I will finish it this time.  My goal is to read a chapter a night, so I should be done in 3 months or so.

 
I got my new gaming mouse and it is awesome.

7 buttons + clickable scroll wheel. Now I can bind everything properly in games.

In other news, is it just me or is the Battlefield 4 Beta really, really, really not that good.

I know it's a beta, but the games seems to have really taken a step backwards. Some of the problems include...

1) Less destructible environments? It could be the map they chose. But other then blowing through a few walls and cosmetic chipping it's not that destructible environment. I think BF3 was more destructible. At least there you could bring down small buildings. And it's no where near the destructibility of Bad Company 2.

2) Exceedingly slow leveling. It takes forever to level and unlock equipment. Way longer than in BF3 it seems. I played eight matches before I hit level 2, Probably about three hours. And I haven't unlocked anything yet.

3) Unlocks don't seem that cool and it feels like there are less of them. Of course, that could also be from the beta. But I remember in BF4 there were dozens of unlocks and skill challenges. They just don't seem there this time around. or I just haven't found them yet through the battlelog system.

4) No major gameplay improvements. Maybe the commander mode will be the big new thing. But playing the game, it feels like a previous generation of BF3. Like BF 2.5. Not really a BF4.

5) They fucked up health packs.

Of course, this is only the beta. But with games like Tribes, Planetside, Hawken, and other fps's that have moved the mantle forward BF4 doesn't seem to bring a lot new to the table. Since I pre-ordered it I guess I'll see when the full game comes out.

I haven't played the beta, but Commander mode was something that they stripped out after 2 that I never understood. When Commander mode works, it makes that series so much better.

 
Slept in too late to take the kid to library story time.  Which is a shame because seeing 15 other toddlers in the room totally terrified her and she needs more socialization.

Sometimes you don't want them socializing too much :lol: He stays home with my wife during the summer. When she started work again, after 1 week in daycare, my son got sick, was bitten in class, and fell off a chair and bumped his head.

 
Not everyone can be little killers. Some people take to being out in public, others seem to be destined to a life as a shut-in recluse. I've seen both, but the ones who are no-fear, all-out, "life? come at me, bro" are the funniest to watch.

 
You know, people are assholes.

Two blocks from my house in my development some asshole just built a 20 foot tall, three car "barn" in his entire back yard. Its hard to describe. It's monsterous. It's all fucking sheet metal, just as large as the existing home, and he plans to asphalt the entire backyard. This is in a residential neighborhood!

He's just reduced the property value of all the neighbors on his block by 15 to 20 grand. He's hurt his own property value because no one will want to buy his fucking house. He's violated all the deed restrictions in the community.

How the county approved it, I don't know. I have a email to the deputy director of land use. He regraded his back yard and destroyed the drainage system for the entire block. With all the asphalt and add roof space he doesn't have any storm drainage. He built the damn thing IN the flood plane.

This jerk is probably thinking, "Hey this is my property and I can do what I want." He's an asshole who doesn't give a shit about his neighbors, the law, or the deed he fucking agreed to.

I had a conversation with a coworker and he was like, "I got no problem with it." And I said to him, look he's an asshole. And now we're going to have to take him to court and spend 20 grand or some such shit to stop him. And it's completely possible we could lose. And he's going to say we're the assholes. And in the end we all become assholes.

I mean seriously, imagine if you woke up one morning and there was a 1300 sq foot 20 foot tall 45 foot long sheet metal barn abutting your back yard. Wouldn't you be pissed.
 
Hooray for pole barns.  We recently got a certified letter in the mail about someone a quarter-mile away is wanting to build a slightly bigger pole barn than regulations allow.  They have a ton of land, so doesn't sound as terrible as your situation.

If he took the proper steps I'm surprised he didn't have to inform everybody first.

 
He had to post a blurb in the paper I think. But no signs no letters nothing. And this is on a at most quarter acre propert with a 2 story 2000 sq foot house.

It's still in construction. Here's a picture. it's hard to get a sense of scale but you can look at the size of the building compared to the door in the corner. To the top of the roof it's 18 feet tall. if the door is nearly seven feet tall the distance to the bottom of the roof is 13 feet and the top of the V would be around 18 feet. All it is is a frame with a sheet metal exterior.

He's going to cover the back yard with asphalt.

I need some help with a dd-wrt. I have it set up as a bridge, and it works fine with my computer. When I plug it into the xbox, though, it won't even connect to the network, let alone the internet. I've tried both plug and play and opening ports. Nothing works. Any ideas?

 
Went to the pumpkin patch today. Got 4 pumpkins. Now just to decide on costumes before we're down to whatever's left in the store.

 
I love football, but a problem with the sport is how announcers glorify big hits that are clearly illegal.

In the Dallas/Redskin game there was just a  big return and it was just broken open when a Dallas player illegally speared a defenseless Redskin and basically knocked him unconscious on the field.

And the announcers are like, "What a great hit!"

I see stuff like that every week and you rarely hear the announcer say, "That should appears to be an illegal hit and he should be fined."

I never had problems with that set up. Have you done a google search on the problem? Maybe resetting the router and doing the bridge set up over again will help.

I'm the opposite. I get annoyed when I hear the announcers say shit like "well he can expect to hear from the league during the week for that hit."

Is it in client mode? IIRC that's all I had to do (note, not a bridge, this is different).

Also, absurdly paying job get. I am, for the first time ever, a full time employee. Fuck contracts.

 
we cant find anyone to work the night or eve shift. (one person left during training)
wa and or cant find anyone to pick the apples and pears.

Yeah, it's in client mode. It's really weird. I can use it on my laptop and my friend's, but once I plug it into the xbox it doesn't work at all. It won't even hit the network, let alone get to the internet. I've googled and can't find anything I don't know what to do, besides tell my friend to stop using the old white xbox.

 
I don't think a Pokemon game has captured my attention like X has since Red.  I'm really enjoying it.  GTAV is on hold for now. :x

That is exactly how I'm feeling. I put a lot of time into Red but didn't even buy a Pokemon until Pearl, which I barely played. X so far is a ton of fun again.

Though, I can't fucking believe it's been fifteen years since it started.

 
I always have a slight fear that guy from To Catch a Predator might show up at my house if I start playing Pokemon.

Gamestop Black Friday ad was leaked.  Optimistic about the PS3 bundle with The Last of Us and Batman Origins.  Hopefully other stores will have similar deals.

Does anyone know if Gamestop deals will be the same if I purchase online?  I don't want to wait in live for forever just to get the deal.

 
That bundle will likely be at every store, so you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding it anywhere, either online or in store.

almost that time of the year to start checking slickdeals daily. i end up getting more toys we dont need or forget about two weeks later.
 
Casey, as much as I hate to admit it, Dallas got robbed on the interception. That should have never been overturned. There was never any actual evidence on the video that the ball touched the ground.I think the video actually proved that he had his hand completely under the ball. But at the least it was inconclusive and the interception on the field should have stood.

I'm still annoyed that Watch Dogs got delayed. But the good news is that Amazon not only changed my PS4 pre-order to just a base system, but they gave me a $10 credit to pre-order Killzone.
