They should've put a speaker on it so when you open the box it plays the same thing that does when Link opens up a chest or the triforce music. Looks dope! Mine will be a Christmas gift so it will be sitting on the box for a few more weeks.

After saving up gift cards for about a year, I finally cashed in today and got this for $65. My first limited edition console and first 3DS. Couldn't be happier :whee:

I haven't had any luck with the price matching. I went for my online pick up and brought the ad and they said since my card was charged they told me to call Customer service for a price adjustment. I called twice, the first girl said she couldn't do it becuase I didn't pay at the time of purchase and the second girl said they don't price match at Walmart. I'm really fed up.I'll probably return it tomorrow and try rebuying it at the lower price. I don't think I'll be pre-ordering at Bestbuy anymore.
I called Bestbuy and they told me to order in store and then get it price matched.

I went in store and tried to preorder but they told me to do an online order for a price match.

Went to go pick it up and they said they don't price match online orders.. the hell.

BUT! How it's supposed to work is you preorder it, return it, and then price match it after.

For those looking for stock... You might want to check your local frys. Went to one and they literally have like around 30 of these zelda bundles.

Idk, if its my area, but I can't seem to find a screen protector that's made to fit the 3DSXL. I know I can order them online, but why are all the I store screen protectors for the OG 3DS (though a lot of them have a sticker added that says for XL, DSi, 3DS, DS). Even GameStop doesn't have any at two locations for the 3DSXL.... Hate not having it protected.

Grrr. This picture makes it very difficult to decide which DS I want to keep for myself.

The glossy finish on the Pokemon XY gets really finger printy.  I like the Gold matte a little better.

Ugh, hope I get paid in the next few days so I can grab one. Pretty much every store nearby still has quite a few (Except Walmart, which is sold out already)

You know I'm not really feeling it. I got it and it's honestly a bit too big for me compared to my original 3ds. I have normal sized hands, but I'm mainly speaking for portability.

For anyone wondering, Nintendo did indeed FIX the XL screen. First runs of the XL had a much dimmer screen compared to the new XL runs. I originally had a launch red xl and the screen was laughably dim. (Like level 3 brightness on the regular 3ds). Now they are pretty much the same exact brightness level, and the colors on the XL are a TAD deeper aswell. I really like what they did with the screen. The XL speakers are still running a max of 50-60% of what the originals speakers could reach though.

The screen for the regular is still much sharper, there's no improving that on the XL since it's the same resolution. The 3d for me on the original is much much easier to pinpoint, the XL gives me a headache to be honest. Trying to find the right 3d angle is annoying, it has to be held further from your eyes to even work than the regular. It's a bit cumbersome.

I like my games brighter, sharper, more portable and the easy use of the 3d gives the edge to my original 3ds honestly. I didn't like my launch red XL as much, and I was hoping this would change my opinion, since I LOVE the design! I missed out on the original Zelda 3ds.

I'm going to return this gold XL. It not as impressive as I was hoping for!

Ps: that green cradle with it is baller though, so awesome! But alas I don't have a green cradle, or doubt I ever will.

Thanks for letting me know, I normally don't shop a lot at BestBuy. Maybe I can return and repurchase it tomorrow there at the lower price. If not I'll just go get it at Walmart or Target.
return/rebuy at Best Buy as it seems like you would return it anyway if you get another at Walmart/Target

I did an online pre-order for mine at Bestbuy and as I went to pick it up, I brought a print-out of the ad and they took that and adjusted it down before finishing the rest of the process. So got out the door for about 213 after tax. I think i'll end up selling the digital code and buying a physical copy for the game instead though.

Yeah, I decided to go back this evening to return it and then price matched it at the new price. Everything worked out fine after that. :)

I got the same spiel. It's the ol' bait-and-switch...

I've never had a 3ds of any kind before and just opened up my Zelda 3ds XL. Is it normal to get a slight rattling sound when you shake the 3ds?

I'm wondering if I should exchange mine. It works fine but the box it came in had a slight dent in one corner, so I don't want to risk having a damaged unit.

Edited to add: Googled it and I see it has a pedometer and that causes the rattling noise. I'm still a little uncomfortable having a damaged box, but I guess if the unit works then I shouldn't worry so much.

i have the rattle sound, also the screen should click before it's fully opened.

don't be so paranoid and love your nintendo 3ds, very sturdy system and it's beautiful.

only buy a case/screen cover if you're a child, around children, or have evil cats.

if you're an adult you dont need one

priced matched my preorder at best buy with the walmart price. had the guy adjust the price making it $199 + tax, being total $216. I notice on my credit card that BB still charged the full $237 total, wondering if it will adjust itself as a refund or if I should call it in tomorrow...

So are screen protectors (IE: Hori) not widely used anymore? I always thought almost everyone used screen protectors.

Are the Pikachu Editions using the brighter/better screen?

I can't seem to find the ad any longer, was it removed or am I just blind?  Going to try today (they said shipments hadn't arrived yesterday at two stores I tried).  Any help would be appreciated!

I would suppose so but I'm not sure, I've never seen the pikachu version. The screen fix was first reported with the release of the Black XL in the states. I'm not sure when that was, I forget, but I'm sure any model after the black would include the brighter screen. I've only had a launch XL and this Zelda XL, and there's a big difference in those two at least.

Make sure to click on the "See all ads for Walmart" link in the top right, and then you can click left & right arrows to scroll through their huge ad listing. Look for the one named "Holiday Prep". I had problems finding the ad too a couple days ago. :p

Did you do it over the phone? I was told it will take 7-10 business days for the credit.

When I have the 3DS XL and regular 3DS side by side, on the same brightness settings and running the same game, the regular 3DS is still noticeably brighter. The XL brightness looks one or two levels dimmer than the regular 3DS. I only have the Zelda 3DS XL, so I can't say how much they improved the brightness over earlier screens,

I would absolutely recommend screen protectors for your game systems. If we were talking smartphone screens, then I would agree that screen protectors are unnecessary. Smartphones use Gorilla Glass though, while game systems use much cheaper materials. Game system screens can get scratched up pretty easily.

Just got mine successfully price matched at BBY. Figured I wanted it eventually so might as well get $20 off. I'm opening it anyway to use so I don't really care if the value stays the same or drops for resale. It's a beautiful system tho and idk if I wanna just download the game now or sell my code  :whee:

This is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've seen posted on this forum not written by slidecage.
From my small sample size of male n= 50

none of them use cases, and have used multiple handheld systems over the years and remains in great condition.

from my small sample size of females n = 2

one had a cat that knocked hers over and scratches screen

the other was very adamant that it's useful

from my small sample size of children n = 10

there is a high rate of screen scratching and damage. due to improper handling of the device.

Please inform me why a responsible adult needs any protection if he just uses the device at home and doesn't have any cats?

I only use screen protectors on all my handhelds (Vita, and 2 XL's). I don't play them while I'm walking or anything, and I have never dropped anything (Even my phone)

Well technically my Vita IS in a case (The Persona 4 hard shell). But I never found any 3DS XL ones since I'm afraid of damaging the art on my Pikachu or X/Y XL's. I just have a fabric case for when I put them in a bag or something, and a small pouch for carrying in pockets.

Just grabbed this at WalMart proper. Found one with stock listed online; when I got there they had at least eight lined up in the case. No problems. I wasn't really looking to get a 3DS, but this was a good buy and I'm already liking it more than I would have expected. Thanks, OP!!

Decided to make a last minute attempt to price match this with best buy over the phone since my local Walmart couldn't find what they supposedly had in stock. Of course I got a customer service rep who apparently doesn't understand what an advertised sale is. Both store turned out to be a huge waste of time. Looks like I'll be taking my chances with Target for a 3DS XL black Friday.

Because shit happens.
Yup. No matter how careful you are with your stuff, anything can happen. I'm 39 and absolutely baby my electronics, but every now and then shit just happens. I was charging my Vita and had to move some things around on the desk. Something fell off and hit the Vita charging cable, bringing the whole thing crashing to the hardwood floor. If I hadn't just put on my Hori Muramasa case an hour before, I'd have lost the Vita. With it on, it survived without a mark on it.

That, and you need something on that 3ds touchpad, you're dragging a hard stylus across a fairly soft screen, that's going to fuck it up eventually no matter how careful you are with it.

When I bought my past Zelda 3DS the guy had already put on screen protectors for me. Unfortunately I never asked what kind of protectors they were but they work perfectly and fit nicely on my normal 3DS. What are the best screen protectors for the XL?

What about the Muramasa case (the one from the CE)?

^^ Hori. I swear by them
finding Hori full body skin protectors is not easy though.

Yeah, I would order the screen protector. Hori's is fairly cheap and very high quality. I remember seeing my friends DS having a touchscreen that barely worked due to deep marks. This is why I'm afraid to play any game with intense stylus action until I get one.

I went ahead and grabbed mine from the evil W as well. The manager at Gamestop was bummed when I told him I was cancelling my pre-order because of the sale. Apparently he already got one from Gamestop, and it sounds like he didn't get any discount--for some reason. lol
