The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

I hope Drakengard 3 is available somewhere besides just the S-E online store.  I know when the S-E rep announced it on the PS blog a couple months back someone asked him if it would be available at other stores and he basically said "I don't know."  Haven't heard anything since then...

this might just be worse than Ni no Kuni!

tried to order X/X-2 CE twice. no confirmation emails and blank page after entering everything at checout.
Uh oh, I guess you missed the talk above to see that the blank page has words on it... Check your account to see if you were charged twice. And good luck with cancelling the extra.

it clearly says a square enix store exclusive, so aside from resellers I doubt it will be available elsewhere.

I know what it says, it said it was exclusively available in the post I'm referring to as well. But it was (and still is, IMO) unclear if it means the preorder is exclusive to them for now or that it will only be sold from their store full stop. And this was the exchange I'm referring to, between S-E's Senior Product Manager and a commentor:

Great news, but I have a question, will the physical version be available on retail stores, online stores like amazon, etc. or only through the Square-Enix online store? I´ll appreciate the response

Unfortunately no details right at this very moment but stay tuned!

That sounds hopeful that it would be available elsewhere... They're probably suckering people into pre-ordering it on their crappy site, having it almost impossible to cancel later on :/ Or something...

What's SqEn got against the PSN anyway?
Beats me. There's quite a few PSP games they published that I'd like to play that aren't on there, and I'm not buying a PSP just for them. :/

At least I'll be able to play Birth by Sleep now thanks to Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix.

I mostly wouldn't be surprised if it's going to be a small print run. I was surprised it was getting a physical release in general given the series isn't all that popular and likely would have sold pretty much the same with a digital only release without any cost of making physical products.

Either way I preordered it already myself figuring it might actually be exclusive, and there might be a set number they are planning to make and after that they will just cut off orders and it would become rare and hard to own after release... and it's a game I want to know i can play 10 years from now.

They keep telling me that there is suspicious activity on my account and locking me out and proceeding to force me into changing my password. This has made it a huge pain in the ass to order and to check if the order went through. The thing is, Iv'e changed my password like 6 times now. If there was an initial attempt at hacking my account, then I'm certain that the person isn't crafty enough to hack my new password over and over again. It seems that it's just every single time I use my account is when they have an issue with it. It's really, really irritating!

It might be different for the Square-Enix store, but the times that I've ordered from the Namco-Bandai store with PayPal everything went smoothly. I've also heard about other people who bought through Digital River and used PayPal not having problems. Could just be a coincidence, but it might be something to keep in mind.

Yep that is exactly what is happening to me. Completely annoying because I try to buy something from them, then get "flagged" and can't log into FF 14 since the accounts are linked. It happened when I bought FF 7 off steam and logged into SE with it, which was weird enough on its own. Then the times I tried pre ordering off their store. I use the authentication key app, and it only happens when I buy anything from them, so I know I'm not being hacked.

So the 40 page artbook that comes with X/X-2 Collector's Edition will be the same as the one offered in the $40 cheaper Limited Edition first print runs, just a bit bigger? Both descriptions say "Artbook packaging", I'm assuming it'll be like KH 1.5 HD Remix.

Either way, I think I'll stick with the $40 cheaper LE over CE.

Just got Project Diva. To my pleasure it was not gutted and was sealed

Was hoping to not get any awkward stares but the employees said they had it themselves and were happy to see someone else buy it

well I ordered tales of graces yesterday and supposedly according the email I got that it's arriving tomorrow and they even gave me a scheduled delivery time. which is weird since they said 2 business days to prepare shipment then 5-7 more to arrive.

Same here, but no info about delivery estimate.

I wonder If I live near one of their facilities since its shipping out so fast? According to the other email I just got my ni no kuni and valkyria chronicles are also coming tomorrow.   Knock on wood no problems yet despite the estimations and bad weather warnings. I have to say if it stays this smooth I may use digital river more often.
totally not jinxing it.
They did charge me close to 9 bucks for shipping and taxes so maybe not

But I am hoping for no problems and glad to be one of the non horror stories from them.

This would also be the first time I've ever gotten 2 day shipping with prime (still not gonna renew it) since it usually takes a week or so. even longer when they use stupid shippers like fedex smart post or the postal worker decides to not deliver it, return it to the post office, not leave a note and then by the time I go to the post office it ships out again and is in my mail box.

and before I head in for the night I saw a random video about mango curry in a chicken salad recipe. looked yummy

Hatsune Miku seems to slowly be getting rarer and rarer. Gamestop.com is sold out of new copies, and Amazon's price went up from the 50$ range to like 60$.

Just placed a pickup request for a Gamestop like 10 miles away that had a new copy(No idea how the hell to get there). For some reason Fry's keeps going in and out of stock for instore pickup, and I don't want to risk a 20 mile drive in the snow for nothing
Fry's still has free shipping for that title. All my gamestop stores show low availability (probably gutted)..

Nice, mine is supposedly coming tomorrow from GS.com (according to UPS tracking). I played the demo, it's great fun. I might wait till xmas to play this though (no particular reason other than I miss opening up games as xmas presents), lol.

Is there any large patches I need to know about?

reprint doesn't surprise me on abyss considering they did around a 50k print in na in the first place and only 5- 10k in eu.

sales wise this year wasn't so bad. ni no kuni and fire emblem awakening were 15, graces and xillia were 20, soul hackers and another title was 10 and xenoblade dropped back down to 40. I've seen better sales but those were good enough.
Best deal for me was getting SMT IV and FE at launch with that $30 eShop credit which turned into a $10 pokemon x for me. Still great deals though.

I highly recommend The Last Remnant on PC. I think it's a hugely underrated gem. The 360 version had a lot of technical issues, and people just overlooked it when it came out on PC. You can see this by how the PC version just got the same scores as the 360, which is utterly ridiculous; the PC version was vastly improved.

The battle system is just awesome; I never got tired of it, and I played the game for over 300 hours.
I really need to go back and play this one (I remember it being fun though). I put some hours into it but forgot it existed. Two things I will say. First is it's on Steam and it's a SE game so it WILL go cheap and the holiday sale is coming up, second even on 2008 hardware (when I bought the game) it ran like a champ. So it shouldn't take much nowadays to run.

I just pre-ordered Drakengard 3 from Square Enix online store and thought I'd share some tips for anyone that may have the same problem as me.

My problem:

No matter how many times I tried to submit my order via paypal I wasn't getting anything. No pending charges in paypal. No email from paypal (much less square enix). It was just looping back around to the cart screen.

What worked for me:

Don't click "Check out with Paypal" at the bottom. Next to that where it says "or, 'CHECK OUT'" - try the normal CHECK OUT button. Then, when you select your payment method Paypal is also an option. I used Paypal this way and got an order # from Square Enix, a pending charge in Paypal, and a receipt from Paypal.

According to the Amazon page description, the artbook with the LE is only 24 pages. And I'm guessing the "full size" description of the CE book means full 8.5x11 paper (I hope!), which is more that just a bit bigger than the KH 1.5 artbook, and presumable, the LE artbook.

Does Square Enix charge at the time of preorder or when it ships?

Eyeballing Drakengard but don't want to spend the $50 now.

Also why the hell can't I just buy the FFX soundtrack on SE Store. I see the CE of FFX but they give you the soundtrack on blu ray only. I would like the CDs instead.

You can rip the contents to one of your HDDs and then copy the contents to a CD instead.

Blu-Ray drives are supposed to be pretty common by now but I guess some people still use CD players from many years ago.

Hopefully there will still be some first print copiedsaround when it hits $20. Missed Code of Princess but I did get Persona 2 and both 3DS Etrian Odysseys. Though I am considering just preordering this. Wish I used my $5 Amazon code on this instead of the Bravely Default CE.

I didn't enjoy it at the time! I didn't know what I had. I was too busy feeling weird, different, alone and socially anxious.
Don't forget feeling angry at the world for no reason, that one is very important.

Dammit, it's like my money is vomiting wallet(typo but I'll leave it in) all over the place since I got the Vita. "I'll get a Vita so I can play Marumasa on the go and finally enjoy the Virtue's Last Reward copy that I had since release. Then I'll play the PSN+ games to keep my busy, it will be an awesome idea!" Not a week later after saying that I'm throwing money bombs at Vita games like I have an infinite grenade cheat code and amassing a huge backlog on yet ANOTHER system.

...It's Steam all over again. That said, so going to get this game.

I loved it (I played it on PSP with the fan patch) It's like a crossover between 999 and Phoenix Wright.
Sweet. Ordered the CE.

Also, damnit, I still have the ToX CE sitting in my closet sealed from launch, and now it's $60? I'm reconsidering my Symphonia collection order now.

Ah, I missed that description on Amazon.

Still, that larger and 16 more page Artbook + a soundtrack that looks cool and full are not enticing enough to spend an extra $40 (lithographs look too small to frame and would just sit in a box) on top of a $40 2-game collection I already own the games of, and only one of which I liked. Not a factor to me, but still needs to be said ...shipping kills it (price + DR).

KH 1.5 Remix HD Collection (sometimes even the LE) were/are easy to find at $20 just a few months after release, maybe it would be best to just wait on FFX HD. The LE of FFX HD isn't SE store exclusive after all.

That Hatsune Miku game is really good, well the rhythm game is. The other part where you have to visit their room, buy gifts for them, etc is well a little too japanese for me, lol (in a I don't want to tell people I play this, but I still find it fun kinda way, lol). It's all good though.

I just get furious at the rock, paper, scissors game.

Just wanted to say thanks for the link. Was able to snag Tales of Xillia: Collector's Edition for half of where everywhere else is selling it for. A great B-day gift to myself. =)
Same here, was about to buy it from bb with the 20% off. But now 40% off, I jump in too.

The minute it appears on BBY's site, I'm preordering it from there because of the GCU discount.
some japanese are even too niche for even bestbuy to carry, like the sorcery saga for example. you might want to pm one of those mods at the bby forum to inquire about it . LOl
