I've been watching this promotion for a day or two waiting to see what items qualified for trade

http://www.radioshack.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=24767316&utm_campaign=Bigger_Better_Event&utm_medium=RSCOM&utm_source=HMPG&utm_content=HMPGA1

Trade in 1 qualifying item, get $5 gift card
Trade in 2 qualifying items, get $10 gift card
Trade in 3 qualifying items, get a $15 gift card
Trade in 4 qualifying items, get a $20 gift card
Trade in 5 qualifying items, get a $25 gift card

RULES:
1) Item must be in working condition
2) Customer must present drivers license and store must participate in RadioShack trade and save program
3) Customer must process all applicable trades at one time. Customers cannot trade in one device at store A and then trade in three additional devices at store B.
4) Customers will receive credit off their purchase or a RadioShack gift card, whichever they device.
5) Customers cannot process over five items per drivers license(Not sure how we are tracking that?)

Folks on Fatwallet have been reporting trading all sorts of junk, the easiest being random old headsets. What just caught my eye is the fact it includes video games, so let the games begin.

Apparently not all RadioShacks are participating so make sure to use the store finder on this page

Jeeze, guess that guy on slickdeals who did at least $625 worth of these trades wasn't kidding:

$625? That's nothing. Here's my haul.

So, seriously, is this still a thing, or did it get exploited to death? I have a Radio Shack in my little small town (just a mere 1/2 mile from my house) but I haven't worked up the will to try this promo - it just seems like I'll get shot down in some way or another. Plus I'd have to scrounge up 5 old games or electronics. I just know whatever I bring in they'll find some way of not taking. It barely seems worth it for the $25, even if it is essentially "free" ;).

It was a hassle to do it the first day, but after did the post survey and expressed my issues, they fixed it. The district manager contacted me; she said trade in issues were corrected and employees were told to take games. I'm not sure if there is a way to do survey without buying anything first.

Just a few days ago my brother traded in 5 games in about 5-10 minutes and they knew exactly how to do the trade.

I've gotten 75 off of this promotion. Last trade in was a really old DVD player, 3 .99 earphones and the guy counted the remote control for the DVD as an time lol

Has anybody bought a Kindle card recently with their Radioshack gift card?

I did a trade in last weekend and got my gift card without issue. I tried to purchase a Kindle card on the spot and the cashier promptly denied me. I tried to convince him by telling him that I've been able to buy iTunes gift cards recently before and asked him if he would just at least give it a shot, but he wouldn't budge. He said it was against corporate policy to allow gift cards to be transferred that way but what was interesting was that he said that a memo was sent out recently to notify employees that corporate had "fixed the glitch that allows people to pay for other gift cards using a Radioshack gift card."

So he was either telling the truth due to the sheer number of trades from people while converting credit over to Amazon or he was just blowing smoke up my ass so that he could stop me from converting my credit. So I left with my gift card and hope to give it another shot at another store in the near future.

Anybody recently using any gift cards, please report your findings.

I just bought a $25 amazon gift card with the $25 radio shack gift card I received from doing the trade 5 devices promo last week. The cashier rang it up with no problems whatsoever.

they don't accept trade-ins in montgomery county...
I really, really hate to see so many people lose their jobs, but I can't believe they even managed to stay around this long. And then this ridiculous trade-in promotion, lol. At least they had an awesome super bowl commercial!

Maybe the employees get to pick 1 or 2 items we traded in as a GIFT when they are laid off from RS.

I hope corporate didn't really sent out a notice to not allow other giftcards to be bought with a RadioShack gift card. I still have a giftcard with over $50 on it from a couple of years ago when they were giving close to $25 for worthless games like Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock and every time I walk into a RadioShack to try to spend the gift card, I either can't find anything or anything I would want is almost double the price of other stores.

I got two old phones, a headset for a phone, an SD memory card 16 mb, and an unopen USB 2.0 cable lol. Are the memory card and cable ok? If not anyone know if BestBuy still taking trade ins for phones $10 minimum? Can't find that thread. Thanks.

Edit: nm the bb one is dead.

I've made $200 so far from bringing in my friends. The local radioshack rocks, they said that I can bring as much as friends as I want and didn't give me any problems at all thus far. I plan to give them an amazingly positive review after all this is done.

To afford that commercial, they probably had to close those stores.

Wait, how can I know my store is participating in this?
I went to the link in the op & all it did was give me radioshacks webpage, nothing about which stores are doing this promotion.

Ok so I just had my parent's come with me this time to get rid of a total of 7 ATK and 2 RR and one Def Jam Rap Star using their ID's :)
$50 more AMZ credit to put towards my Computer Build.

No mention of any memo or anything, and the system allowed the gift card to be used towards amazon gift cards no problem.

Also a bit of information that honestly nobody really cares about but the radio shack store closings are more along the line of about 10 stores. Mostly due to leases expiring and they are just moving locations. (If the local manager is to be believed).

Ok so my cashier was just BSing me then. Good to know thanks.

Kind of sneaky but he knew what to say and was prepared to stop my attempts. Just glad I'm not stuck with my RadioShack gift card.

It's probably because the advertisement for it states that you can't get get cards with it, even if it does work I'm sure some places are just super strict to following what they read.

Traded in 5 of my girlfriend's Playstation 2 games including some lame Brittany Spears dance game.  Cashier didn't even open any of the game cases although all 5 games were in there.  Got a $25 Radio Shack gift card. Cashier told me we could not buy an Amazon gift card or any other gift card with Radio Shack gift card.

Hmmm had my sister trade 5 more things yesterday and she asked them if you could trade in movies and the cashier said yes. I'm sure this is YMMV and I think he may have just been answering blindly because he seemed to be hitting on her. But who knows.

With my trade in today, the cashier and manager said the same, but then said "well we can try". So it worked. Cashier just didn't try, I would go back if I were you.

I was in the mall and saw a trade sign at Radioshack. I went inside and asked if they take games. They said no, but I'm wondering if that's because they don't know they do. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Should I just try to trade-in anyway? Also, what systems is this limited to? I've seen people report PS2, but I wonder if that's because of a generic trade-in sku.

I called the one at my mall and they said no also, but everywhere else it was yes.

For those saying no to games just show them that link of the flyer or whatever that says games are acceptable. It may work. Of course I haven't had issues regardless. Up to 8 trades now. $200 in amazon gc. :)

Think I'm done now though.

Thanks Op! I just tried this today and the associate let me get a $25 Amazon giftcard with the credit. Trying to find five more items to trade in.

Run out of relatives/friends to pimp out? :p

I took 5 ps2 games, and the guy said the only ps2 game I could trade in was Fifa 12.

Apparently this person didn't know what they were doing. The PS2 games I took weren't in cases, just yellow sleeves you get from gamestop (took price stickers off), and they didn't bother to take the discs out to check for scratches (neither did I when I picked them up from gamestop). Just depends on the associate you get or manager (usually you don't want the manager to handle it, but my last trip the one doing the trade with his associate actually let it go through just fine...).

In order to verify this info of movies elegibility or not we demand pics of your sister and then we can properly judge if he was hitting on your sister or not.

I went again yesterday with my friend. I think I'm done now. $100 of credit all spend on other company's gift cards, no problems. I really want to know what they're doing with all this crap.

I got a relative to trade in some stuff for me the other day.

Now need to get one more relative or friend to do it for me so I can get $50 in Kindle cards to put in my 70d fund.

From the other day:

SFIV PC ($.49)

NCAA FB 03 GC ($.45)

ATK ($,99)

ATK ($.99)

Deepak Chopras Leela Wii ($.01)

(all $ figures are in GS credit)
