The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Nice was waiting to order this game once an LE came out, and it looks decent enough though I would rather trade the keychains for something else...like an artbook or soundtrack.

Too meh for me, so I'm going to pass.

sounds good to me... I am fine without the artbook as i already have that from the ps3 collectors, as for the soundtrack it would have been nice, but I like the idea of the keychains as my keyring needs some flair :p

I already have the PS3 version ($60 for the lackluster LE, not the best decision, oh well... I wanted it)

Might as well get the vita one

A soundtrack would be nice.

I don't really care for the artbook.

Don't get me wrong, I love artbooks.

I have a good number of them (at least 60....)

The artbook in these LE are usually paper thin (putting a hard cover on a few pages of art is a waste of space/money).

The only good artbook from a LE that I can recall is Arcana Hearts 3 LE

(and yes, I imported it from the UK due to the game being digital only in the US)

Did they ever confirm if the menus in SAO are in english or is it just subtitles?
None of the articles can confirm that as of now. There are a few articles like this one from Gematsu that have say it will have Chinese and English subs, but the screens show a mix of English and Chinese even on the menus. We probably won't be able to tell until the game comes out on May 29th.

Friendly reminder: The demo for XBlaze Code: Embryo is available for download on PS3/Vita starting today via PSN.

The file size isn't too bad for Vita--about 350MB, IIRC.
Thanks! Seeing it on the Vita changed my mind about this. I'm in. Just hope Best Buy will carry the Vita version.

As a heads up with NISA, just like the Demon Gaze LE, the Mugen Souls Z LE got some cancellations in I assume and are now back in stock.

I wonder if it's due to a high volume of people ordering them, or they were processing cards (as they have been doing now) and ended up with expired ones or something.

This is what I got from my Play Asia Email.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment confirmed to have full ENG subtitles/menus by PlayStation Asia and Bandai Namco!

If the lack of language confirmation has been holding you back from playing Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, worry no more! The PlayStation Asia website and Bandai Namco have confirmed that the Taiwanese version of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will ship with Japanese narraration as well as English and Traditional Chinese subtitles. Menus will also be fully available in English.

I'll probably pick up the asian version then since the US version will be download only.

So, this is an enhanced version of Disgaea 4 for the PS3? I had been planning on using my buy 2 get 1 GameStop coupon to get that, but maybe I'll hold off. Never played a game in this series, though. I've heard good things, but what's so good about it?

If you try the Atelier series, give Totori a try. That is my favorite of the ones that I have played. Valkyria Chronicles is considered a classic by nearly everyone who has played it--the problem is not enough people have. So I would recommend that one for an immediate purchase! If you like rogue-likes, then Guided Fate will be right up your alley. I was really enjoying playing it, but that is a genre that starts to not set well with me when there is so much potential for losing hours of progress. If you dig the genre and have enough patience, then it's certainly charming and fun.

They do seem to be far tamer than the Neptunia games. But the Atelier series are still right there at the limit for what I will tolerate lol.
Really? I must be missing the perv stuff. I picked up the two Atelier games for Vita that were on the Playstation store sale and have really been enjoying them. There is a lot there but it goes at a good pace. I do wish I could get them on carts though. But if it's cheap enough I can buy another memory card, I'm just glad that we got them in the US at all really.

Damn, I just used my $5 coupon on the Mugen Souls set. I really love how NISA seems always throw in some cleaning supply... sponges, cloth... now, if we could get some Prinny dishwashing soap, we could finally do our dishes.

In other news, still no Drakengard 3 CE shipment for me.

Looks like SE/DR charged my current CC, so my issue resolved itself, though now I wish I had tried harder to cancel my order. :headache:

It sure would have been nice to get those CEs for free, though... :bomb:

DR strikes again, they always get their money.
I'm still confused as to how they did it, though--my CC company said the old card would no longer be active at the end of March and advised me to change any saved payment methods I had with that card. If the old card isn't active anymore, then how did my current one get charged...?

They're a bunch of perverts watching everything you do....they're like Vigilante thinks we don't know his number, well we do and we know he uses it on that Clown Porn site...it's the good stuff at least though so we commend him.

Eric Snowden way.

Valkyria Chronicles doesn't get enough love it so rightly deserves.
It has three games, three manga series, one anime series, three artbooks, and the acclaimed XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within games were clearly inspired by it. That's a better legacy than most dead games.

You can watch the anime for free on Crackle.

As someone explained yesterday, most credit card companies now will automatically allow a charge that has been preauthorized to go through, even if the credit card number is no longer valid. It's called an "Automatic Billing Updater" and Mastercard, Visa and American Express all provide it at the credit card issuer level. It's a huge issue especially with recurring payments from shady subscription services that are hard to cancel.

I'm pretty sure X-Com EU and EW were inspired by X-Com: UFO Defense, which was released 14 years before Valkyria Chronicles. But yeah, VC does have a better legacy than some.

I meant the gameplay. Obviously they're in the same series. They're not just going to release new games without any modern additions; the devs of XCOM: Eenmy Unknown actually said they looked to Valkyria on how to make difficult strategy games appealing to modern gamers.

I did not know that... maybe there's hope for my copy to ship.

I just got a message from NISA that they can't charge me for Mugen Souls Z pre-order, even though they updated my credit card.:whistle2:x

Maybe it was in reference to love from the West. Though, other than Senjō no Valkyria 3: Unrecorded Chronicles (which was later fan translated in 2013), I'm pretty sure we got everything else released to us in one form or fashion.

I thought I responded to this the other day, but my internet must have went out when I was posting...

If you had a credit card and the company reported it stolen or compromised, any charges you had pending that weren't fraudulent are put on the new card even if the exp date or number is different.

Looks alright and good to give my PS4 some love (it's pretty much just getting Destiny for the rest of the year unless Watch Dogs is amazing). Course this wont be representative of the gameplay (which I've seen videos and it looks aight). Still good to be getting PS4 niche games regardless (though it looks more for the PS3/Vita at the moment).

Wow. I was going to go preorder the Neptunia Idol game for my friend from Best Buy, and it's apparently sold out online.

I'm glad I got my preorder early.  I sure hope this is a sign we're going to get more niche titles here.  I could use a few idolm@ster games here, as well as all the new Neptunia games :)

Is best buy not carrying Mind Zero any more? Can't find it on the BB site search, someone posted a question about it in the forums and the rep had no idea what it was, and the link to it on this forum leads to a page that says "this item is not available".

So looking through the thread, did I end up missing my chance on preordering senran kagura shinovi versus from amazon? Or was it just some fluke and that had to take the listing down?

Maybe. It's best to put a pre order down at Gamestop for the time being.

It's a mystery, it showed as temporarily out of stock the whole time it was up....I'm likely ordering from Gamestop anyway cause I need a physical version of that game and I know it will be limited.

i am not sure if there are any interest in Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi - Limited Edition Unboxing

here is the unboxing video

Well, if you are still watching that listing, you'll see they raised the price from $130 to $200. What a jackass that seller is. Can't stand when sellers do that.

Whoa that sucks. Guess I'm not getting one amymore...

They must hike up the prices on anything people are buying up. I bought that Asian version of FFX-2 Vita in English from that seller. I paid $37 or so plus shipping. Now they're charging $64.99 and $59.99 for FFX.
