Humble Bundle Thread

I  plunked the $10, gave most of it to charity. I didn't know the executables won't run on my Windows 8.1 PC, and might as well. $10 for five Steam Keys, and Soundtracks is pretty damn good regardless. I was going to buy KoF during the last big steam sale, but I chickened out.

If I had a nickel for every time I had to hunt out different versions of MAME/Neogeo ROMS and BIOS I would be able to buy a cabinet. When did they ever standardize that crap

And if it is?
The author of the original code (ElSemi) can issue DMCA takedown notices and possibly sue. However the guy has always been anonymous (... and in Spain, I think), so it's very unlikely that'll happen. Gaming companies take advantage of this fact to make money off other people's work.

You. Have got. To be freakin' kidding me.

I started looking into the games, because of course I was going to do that. I opened the Neogeo.zip file. It has the entire zip file as it is in MAME. Including stuff that the emulator has no reason to even have (Universe Bios, home bios, even the friggin' hotel bios!)

I loaded the AOF2 executable in a hex editor and I found a string that says "Initializing QSound chip emulation". The Neogeo doesn't have QSound.

And what's worse... and damning... is this line in the built executable:

All systems.....................................................CPS-2 Only......................................................CPS-1 Only......................................................Neo-Geo Only....................................................Konami Only.....................................................PGM Only........

I honestly doubt they created a CPS1/2. Konami and PGM emulator, so something tells me they cannibalized an existing emulator to build this. Jesus fuckin' christ...

Edit: AND DPAD SUPPORT SUCKS TOO. NO REMAPPABLE BUTTONS EITHER, WHO MAPS THE BUTTONS THIS WAY GODDAMN
Does it really have the Uni bios in it? The one that enables cheats? Since I doubt they have permission from the guy who made that.

LOL, dumb Spaniard. God forbid the people that made the game make money, while the people that made the emulators to pirate them dont.

I gotta give it to them. It's the perfect crime. We've been stealing their arcade games of over a decade and they have been powerless to stop us.

What better revenge than to just... steal them back? And make money off of them. They're simply selling their own property.

Who is going to stop them? Us? The thieves in the first place? lol.

It's brilliant. It's symbolic. It's ironic. It's magnificent.

Emulator makers never sold the games or emulators.

But the people stealing their emulator code are trying to profit from their work.
Dear DMCA,

The emulator I wrote for pirating games without paying for them (Though we all agree to that de facto legal nicety that what I'm doing isn't really illegal because totally everyone really just wants to play homebrew arcade games lol.) is now being used by the company to MAKE them money. This is terrible! ;_; Help!

Do you honestly think they really want the authorities looking at their computers? Not only would they probably lose on the merits, but they'd also risk going to jail for all the other illegal shit that's on their computers.

SNK made the Neo Geo. SNK made the games. As far as they're concerned, the architecture of the system and the games belong to them, so I gladly paid them the $10. (A legitimate copy of Twinkle Star Sprites costs upwards of $500 on the secondary market.)

If someone wants to argue otherwise they can, but I seriously doubt they want to.

Obviously there are a few people here who would agree with me on the merits of compensating or at the very least not outright stealing people's code for profit. I don't feel like arguing with people about the value of creating a platform that can be played on numerous computer configurations. If it was as easy as you thought, then the company that SNK licensed to "port" these games over to the PC would have done it themselves, instead of stealing other people's work.

Then again, this is probably the quality of work and ethics you should expect from the Chinese poultry meat company that owns the SNK IPs nowadays.

Oh please. SNK Pee has a history of shoddy port jobs. SNK Arcade Classics and KOF: The Orochi Saga (the US / EU versions) on the PS2 were coded by Terminal Reality and were pretty bad (the latter much more than the former), and most of the DotEmu crap happened before they were bought out.

I get it, you don't like what they did, but don't act as if the Kawasaki family didn't farm out their games to crap developers too.

Excuse me, sir, but there's a gentleman over in the corner who would like to have a word with you. I believe he said his name is Porn.

You know, I always thought that was a girl's name.
So this argument or whatever it is is mildly entertaining, but whenever I see something like this post, it ALWAYS reminds me of this:

And that's hilarious. My brain will never be quite the same after having heard the Avenue Q soundtrack.

I only buy the monthly bundle... Does that count?

(Not really... I only bought the first one.)
Monthly bundle buyers are the best type of prey customer. Especially anyone who stayed subbed after the first one.

If you buy the Brooklyn Bridge now I'll thrown in the Madison Square Gardens for another $.99! Deal of the century! Just send me the money through paypal to "[email protected]". Limited Time Offer! Act now before I sell it to someone else!

Wait, why are people buying this bundle again? I seriously don't understand consoletards. Why don't you deviants just move to japan and marry a robot?

Well I guess they finally found something their shitty Dell laptop PCs can run, old ass games from the 90s emulated in a browser.

any Steam games or just the DRM-FREE craps?
I don't know, maybe try looking on the Humble page for which games have the Steam logo beneath them? Just a thought.

OHHHHH!! That's what that symbol means. I thought it was a warning that playing that game may lead to an erection lasting longer than 4 hours.

i think u misunderstood. Fox was tellling us that there will be 4 more games added next week. I quoted him and ask if these upcoming 4 more games will be steam or DRM-FREE

He said there were 4 missing slots so there will be four games added. He's not Miss Cleo so he doesn't not what they will actually be.

Except the only choice for charity this time round is the American Red cross... who are shady themselves.. it's one charity I always avoid giving to.
Nope. There's a slot for choosing a charity from a rather large selection list as well, which means one can have their entire payment go to almost any charity.

It's too bad they're all so hypersensitive, too. Not only to words, but to dust, pollen, metal, and most likely the opposite sex. Pop some antihistamines next time.

And I doubt people are going to buy that bundle, agent. $80 worth of Steam games can include everything that Humble has bundled before, like Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, and Tomb Raider. I honestly can't see anything that hasn't been bundled before for cheaper being in that bundle.
