I have a 1060 and need help figuring out whether my card can use freesync on this monitor?

Dell S2419HM
https://www.displayninja.com/dell-s2419hm-review/

"You can also use the monitor with NVIDIA cards, but not the variable refresh rate technology"

Why does the article say this if Nvidia cards are now compatible with freesync? I don't know much about monitors so bear with me if I am interpreting something wrong
freesync = AMD graphics cards

G-sync = Nvidia cards

If you cross an Nvidia card with a freesync monitor you won't see any benefits from that Variable Refresh Rate technology. But Nvidia recently released some updated drivers that allowed a handful of freesync monitors to work with their (G-sync-only) GPUs. Here is the list of freesync monitors that are now G-sync compatible:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/g-sync-ces-2019-announcements/

There are only 17 models whose brand all start with "A" or "B", and your Dell is not one of them unfortunately.

FreeSync & G-Sync = are used to kill input lag, graphical tearing, stuttering, and other issues that can occur when framerate for the game and monitor aren't aligned (which often happens when your in-game framerate goes above your monitor's max-limit of Hz supported - i.e. you hit 93fps in STALKER: SOC, when your monitor is only supporting 60hz tops).

Variable frame-rate = Tech that allows framerate to bounce around. G-Sync and FreeSync can control this, to an extent. See this article for more info, which goes into all kinds of technical details - https://www.pcper.com/category/tags/variable-refresh-rate

Personally, get a monitor w/ a syncing method (G-Sync or FreeSync); get a monitor w/ a great refresh (i.e. somewhere b/t 90-240hz); and when running a game you select settings & limit the max framerate with a game that you'd be happy with.

Some games have framerate caps support within the game that you can use - i.e. see GR: Wildlands; Dishonored 2 & Death of the Outsider.

You could also use MSI Afterburner and/or NVidia Inspector to limit framerates, if need be.

Apropos of nothing in particular, but Soul Calibur VI's story is even weirder than Dead or Alive 6's.
I mean, generally speaking, Soul Calibur's story makes some of the least sense in the realm of non-anime fighters, so I'm not really surprised?

Like for one thing, how do the girls keep getting breast augmentation surgery between every entry in the 16th century or whenever SC takes place?

I haven't gotten to the Cosmetic Surgical Interlude part of the main story yet, but I'll let you know what I find out.

I just finished leveling my the second specialist (Demolitist) in the Division 2... I think Survivalist will end up being my favorite... So far Sharpshooter doesn't do it for me.

Who wants to guess the release date/price range of Borderplands 3?  I'll go with December 2019 and $80ish for super-deluxe edition with season pass and Randy Pitchford's flash drive porn.

Late October/early November.

I think the real question is rather or not it's a Games as Service or if it will release "in full" like the first two did.

Did you already but all the dlc for the games you play?
i can't seem to apply coins to dlc in the store, just to the "rewards" for specific items in each game. can I buy dlc with coins?

update: just spent the rest of my coins on "rewards." also bought a bunch of lums for rayman legends. not sure what for lol

Hmm.  My B3 guess.   It will be $60 base game with a $49.99 Season Pass or a deluxe version for $99.99 which has the Season Pass and a unique skin or something.  It will launch on Steam and other platforms but has a new Uplay-like Gearbox client that launches with it, has tons of day one DLC which will be costumes/heads and keys or something else for special chests/lootboxes and it will be always-online in order to keep people from cheating to get the skins and special chests like you could do with Borderlands 2, this will also kill modding of course.  It will move to Epic store exclusively and without warning but only after it sells pretty well on Steam for a day or so and the split playerbase can not play together.

I've got this sneaking suspicion that Borderlands 3 is going to suck, mostly due to its business model. Gearbox was the original pioneer of ("expansion packs" as) DLC. This one is going to take it to a whole new level.

All of these other games do it better now. But BL is a major brand name. They practically invented the loot shooter genre. Frankly they have their work cut out for them in order to catch up to the other major players in the genre. I'm expecting delusions of grandeur.

Sorry, that's what I meant. The rewards for the games are usually pretty decent.

If they patch microtansactions to borderlands 1, BL3 is surely going to have tons. They could for example lock raid bosses behind mtxn currency. (Bl 2 had farm-able Eridum to lock those) .

Maybe they'll just keep to consmetics like with BL2 tho.

Went to a hipster food truck park this weekend where they happened to have a Selena tribute because this is Texas. There was a pizza food truck so of course I had to order one for science. I asked the lady if they had a menu but she told me "well, this is a Selena tribute event and she liked pepperoni, so we only have pepperoni pizza."

Expect large amounts of beer and chicken wings at my funeral fellas.

I have to respect that. They opened a good truck park by the river in my hometown and it's pretty nice.

About expansion packs as DLC's: I think Oblivion Knights of the Nine was out first - https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Knights_of_the_Nine

Also, BL games doing the looter-shooter thing took a lot from Hellgate: London's class(es) that allowed for 1st/3rd person looting-shooting.

Take my advice: avoid all food trucks, hipster or otherwise. Your GI tract will thank you in the long run.

Well, there are no horses in Borderlands, so . . . gun skins?

Look at what Ubisoft and others are doing with some of the latest titles.  Some of these games are being put out with the plan for years of "service" and having to pass a year pass to keep the most current.  Ubi is charging, for instance, $120 for Division 2 ultimate edition that comes with year 1 contect/updates pass.

Borderlands 2 had plenty of DLC outside of the season pass.

I know I sound like a broken record, but the handsome edition was cheaper via console.  I continue to blame a bid part on the unrealistic expectation that BL Prequel SP is still worth its listing price.

I can see Gearbox having 2 different Seaon Passes along with cosmetic/skin DLC.

Yes, I am interested in BL3 as I really had a blast with BL2.  I think that Borderlands was a good title for both single and multi player.

More intel coming April 3, I hope that the pricing can be explained.

I am cautiously optimistic.

I mean, we'll see if BL3 is good enough.   I loved the first two games immensely.  But the value to be had in the DLC packs was not there.  The amount of content you got was trivial compared to the main game, which also got stale fast during the new game+ playthrough.

A lot has changed since BL2 was at the height of its success in 2012 and Gearbox is going to have to come up with much more interesting gameplay loops if they want to keep players engaged.   They really ought to be exploring some sort of shared-world or multiplayer hub too bc the equipment and customization comparisons are a big part of what drives players to keep running the loot treadmill during the endgame.

The bottom line is that Gearbox needs to greatly expand upon their original formula from 1 & 2.  This is a big test for them.  You could easily see the general public's genre fatigue with Borderlands - The Pre-Sequel when it released.

Div2 is free content for the first year, the season pass only gets you 1 week early access to it

You can say this of almost virtually any dlc though. I actually thought the playtime you got out of most of the dlc was fine, there was some very great and robust dlc (tiny tina, general knoxx) and some pretty poor and/or relatively short dlc (mad moxxi, hammerlock). All in all I didn't think the dlc was any better or worse than most games that get dlc. Most games it seems you pay more for the amount of content you get in dlc than the base game, it's not really a borderlands specific thing, the base game compared to the dlc is a steal typically in regards to value. Fwiw my biggest concern with BL3 is how they handle microtransactions/dlc/etc, but if they handle dlc like they did in BL2 (a couple of larger packs for ten-15 bucks each, microtransactions for skins, bite sized head hunter packs for 3-5 bucks) I'll be pretty happy with that.

Also fwiw I think a huge selling point for a lot of people is the lack of a shared world. There are enough of those out there (Anthem, Destiny 1/2, FO76, The Division 1/2) that have come out since BL2 released, and a lot of people just aren't interested in that. If it were shared world personally I wouldn't plan on buying it, I'll be very pleased if it works the same as the first two games.

Should the old NWN "Premium Modules" (ShadowGuard, Kingmaker, Infinite Dungeons, Pirates, etc) that were once sold exclusively via BioWare's Store online be considered expansion packs sold as DLC's? Those came out around Oblivion: Knights of the Nine DLC, IIRC.

I don't think Icewind Dale's Trials of the Luremaster counts (2001), as that was a free download ("DLC", I guess) for those that bought Heart of Winter expansion.

I'll be very happy if BL3 is like BL1 and BL2, having an offline mode and optional online co-op.

I still am way behind here on BL and got a bit burnt out w/ it (after BL1: GOTY and BL2 Base-game), as I haven't finished BL2 DLC's and ain't even touched BL:TPS, so I do still have plenty of BL to play already.

at least you are more caught up with borderlands than the soulsborne series. you'll get past sen's fortress one of these decades

The value in the content DLC was fine. Maybe you're thinking about the Headhunter DLC? I'm not really sure how they need to improve in this department. Stuff like Derpstany and Derpvision basically replicate it but you're a huge proponent of those two games.

Anyway...
