Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-21
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

I really think the only way Xbox can turn their situation around it to do something different with their hardware. Make a new console but instead of the cheaper entry level digital only console try something different and make a handheld device. Have the Xbox Store and their Mobile game store they are launching on it. You can download games directly or stream them via Xcloud. Have it be dockable like a Switch and/or Steam Deck. Make it the "most powerful handheld" but make sure the battery life is decent, give us 1TB of SSD storage with MicroSD card support or even add a storage expansion slot for their SSD cards, put Hall effect sticks in it and maybe it can output 4K docked or upscaled to 4K.

Lets say you sell 20-25 million consoles to your existing fans but also you sell 20 million handhelds to existing and new customers,
So now you have 40 million pieces of hardware out in the market. The console is $600 and the Handheld is $400 to $500.

Then you get people that like to play handheld to sub to gamepass and you see growth because of the new handheld hardware.

They have brought up the idea of a handheld a few times. If they don't bring one to market in their next hardware cycle I have no idea what they are doing and it would be foolish to not go this route. Gamepass is perfect for a native handheld device. It makes perfect sense.

Hopefully a month straight of 2000 DRP! lol

I was wondering do people still play Destiny 1? I don't remember where left off probably taken king....Is it worth buying the collection? I never started Destiny 2 am I too far behind? Do characters transfer from D1 to D2? And now is it cross play / save?

Also I have the just for you offer for Assassins Creed Odyssey Ultimate / Gold.... worth it? one was $8 & $12, I think I had all the other DLCs.
I jump into D1 every so often, but I don't stay long because the QoL changes in D2 make it hard to go back.

Destiny - The Collection goes on sale for $20 pretty often (but isn't on sale right now). If you've already played The Taken King, then this adds Rise of Iron, which has a fun raid, but I don't know how easy it is to get a group together to play said raid.

Your characters from D1 can be imported into D2 and D2 has a feature that shows you all of your highlights from D1 (when you completed stories or raids and who you completed them with).

There is a LOT of story to get caught up on in D2, and unfortunately a good chunk of it isn't in game. You would be missing all this story content:
  • The Red War (original campaign)
  • The Curse of Osiris
  • Warmind
  • Forsaken
  • All the seasonal stories from the other expansions
You can see the cutscenes from all the removed content in various places, and Bungie is slowly expanding their cutscene archive.

Bungie did just make the older expansions and all of the current expansion's seasons free for all players until the new expansion launches in June (more info here).

D2 is cross-save and cross-play, so you can have your same Guardians on any platform that you play. You can see more on that here. Also, here are some player resources that might help.

You can not import D1 characters anymore. The highlights were pretty much pointless, it would change a few words of dialogue early on but I don't think that still happens now. Nothing important ever transfered so remaking your characters appearance is 95% of the old transfer process anyways.

If you really want to get on board the current Destiny experience, D1 only really gives a taste. A lot of changes in the last decade. It's a much better intro to the story and universe than the joke of a new player experience in D2 though.

This is a critical factor, and one Sony was wise to consider right away. MS has a lot of math to work out on releasing a new CoD game day 1 on GP vs 3-6 months down the road (which is likely the smarter idea and why we've not heard about the plan yet). I think the internal metrics right now are showing that Starfield/Redfall/Hi-Fi Rush are probably not moving the needle significantly in terms of subs. If Xbox doesn't release CoD this year as a day 1 release there will be additional havoc/criticism of Xbox. If they do release it day 1, it could backfire by not driving subs and being a huge financial loser for MS. If it was my company, I would at least do a day 1 release in 2024 as a trial and to shake off some of the abysmal news we've had recently. Might be a costly mistake, but the metric information would be very insightful for future plans.

Here are some outdated, but interesting stats on CoD sales. Simply owning ABK is a great cash cow, which is risky to jeopardize with Game Pass involvement. Based on the stats I found a few days ago, I'd think CoD would be a perfect Game Pass game since so many people put so much time into it, and dlc is popular. Toss some monthly perks into the mix to keep people interested and you'd likely have a nice winner for Xbox.

COD will be a defining moment for Game Pass, win or lose. As you said, if they don't release it day one then that's just a death knell for the service because people will demand refunds on their subs claiming false advertising. And they wouldn't be wrong because that's all we've ever been sold is "day one on game pass".

Hellblade 2 is also the next big hurdle and honestly, it doesn't matter how it reviews: I don't think most people even with a sub will engage, myself included. Forget driving subs, because at that point you have to look at these big hollywood games as flops because they aren't appealing to the majority of the playerbase. This is why Tango got shut down and why Ninja Theory is next honestly. The game could be 10/10's but if nobody wants to play it, then there's no value in subbing.

What's amazing to me is Palworld was a banger success for Game Pass, but gets zero credit because it's not in-house. That's because Xbox is now being reigned in by MS to start capitalizing on that $100bn investment--and they ain't got it.

Don't all those people who would have bought COD still need to have GP? I am not sure I am quite getting it. Are there people who buy COD that are done after 1 month AND spend $70 for the game? I feel like if you are a big COD player, then buying it is the better option anyway.

Edit: I am assuming the average GP subscriber is also not a huge COD player that pours hours into the game year after year.
Can't speak for COD but as far as Battlefield games went, that was exactly me: played it for a month or two and never came back.

If ya’ll have PS Plus Extra, might want to kick Little Kitty to the curb and play Animal Well. It’s fucking fantastic.

It if funny if they didn't shut down Tango this whole thing would been over. No one is boycotting MS over the developers of Mighty Doom and Redfall.
Agreed, it's the only head-scratcher because once a-fucking-gain, MS is dead last when it comes to communicating decisions. It's like they took all lessons learned with the fiasco of their first-party games going to PS and said, "well that won't matter here. . ."

I Ain't boycotting, but I am pissed at not just losing Tango, but with Arkane Texas gone it sounds like we lost a Dishonored game. All because Todd Howard forced a multiplayer FPS game on them.
Thank fuck for getting this right. So many people assumed it was MS' decision, but they were already well into development when Bethesda was bought. That 'fallout' was on Todd's head squarely.

I was curious why - typically it was always Phil who did announcements and interviews and things and I'm surprised it was Booty who announced the closures and did the town hall and now it's bond doing the press tour. Feels like big shake ups at MS are happening or just actually kicking in after their previous role changes
MS Games, formerly Xbox.

There's three people in the world, that share the same name, that decided my email address would be their email address. One in Colombia, one in Spain, one in Mexico. I have gotten bank login information from some of them and they still don't get that just because they say an email address with their name on it doesn't make it their email address automatically. Today I got a 3 month Game Pass Ultime code, guessing from the guy in Spain since it was bought from Game. I tried the code, to make sure it was a real purchase and it came back with a "not your region" message. Would have been a nice clean up fee for all the crap I get from them.

You can probably just use urbanvpn on your pc and get it to redeem. I would not reccomend this in any case, they likely can file an appeal and eventually get your account banned for marketplace theft.

Oooof, sounds like I missed too much. Not enough time to grind like D1 days.

Stupid Microsoft and phone verification......even through console that has been closed. Said fuck it and bought upgrade for AC odyssey and saved my damn quarter on the new Vampire Survivor DLC.

Now I'll just save my Bing points for Nintendo Switch 2.

The price of GP (if it continues to increase) will definitely push me to treat the service more conservatively when I expire in 2 years. I am unable to keep up with number of games and I still have games I own that I never get to play. I would most likely purchase a 3 month pass and play as much as I could then let it lapse while I play some of the games I own.

I had that happen with a guy in Arizona, kind of. Same name as me, and he does have a Gmail account two letters different from mine (I own the abbreviated version of our shared first name, he owns the longer one).

But for a while he kept using MINE to order his pizzas, buy new glasses, etc.

I eventually found his phone number and texted him to go pick up his damn pizza and use his own email address or I'd start canceling his purchases. It seems ro have worked. 😆

There is a guy in New York with my name, and I keep getting his library email even though I have the full name email address.

I have a gmail account from the beta days and don't have any numbers in it. I get all kinda of emails where people schedule things like dinner reservations or furniture deliveries. I don't know if it's some sort of scam I am not aware of, but those things get cancelled or moved. Get your own email address or your furniture will be delivered 4 months later than you planned!

You know...Did XBox ever explain why they never went back to 1 vs 100 on the 360 or did something similar? Like that was right there, hell it's STILL right there. I Can't imagine the rights for that being expensive especially after all the spending they've done and it's simple enough that it can be played on any screen that I really wonder why the hell they never went back to that especially with them trying to "expand the market."

That was peak Xbox greatness. Loved doing 1 vs 100 game nights with friends

I loved this so much. I got to be the 1 once and I managed to win...a Xbox Arcade copy of Lode Runner.

Never got into 1 vs 100 myself though I saw ads for it on the 360 at the time. I was too busy playing Battlefield 1943, Banjo tooie, and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts I think. The main reason I got a 360 back in 2009 was for the Rare games.

Do we have any predictions or leaks for next months Xbox showcase? Is it pretty much a given we will see the new controller and get a release date?
3 More studio Closures and some 2026 game announcements that will get cancelled long before they see the light of day.

In all seriousness though, I just really hope they finally have something, it seems like ever since the tail end of the Xbox One generation, every June it's "Just you wait Xbox fans, because we have some games coming for you! Next year..." I want it to finally be next year and have some of these games that are system sellers come out to Xbox with a good reason to play them on Xbox, like that they run the best on Xbox versus whatever Microsoft decides to give to other consoles or have some exclusive content that makes me want to play it on Xbox.

Things coming to Gamepass is no longer exciting to me, when they killed off Games with Gold, I never even look at the monthly announcements anymore because I honestly don't care what is coming to gamepass or leaving gamepass.

Xbox and Steam are going to combine forces and make the ultimate handheld. New this gen controller and next gen console announcement.

I do believe that Xbox will find a way to run Steam on their next gen platform, but not sure it will have any sort of endorsement from Valve; just glorified PC in a box capable of integrating Steam. That said the latest sale on all COD games signals they're coming to Game Pass next month via Summer Fest announcement. That would make the most sense as they gear up for the launch and now confirmed day one release for the latest game.

That said, Little Kitty was a fun afternoon game with extended gameplay for achievement chasing. These are the games that make Game Pass work beyond AAA.

So I had to do some research because it occurred to me that I don't actually know what aside from STALKER 2 is coming to Game Pass that I even care to play and has been announced. From fuzzy memory I couldn't think of a single thing and I wondered just how out of the loop I must be for that to be possible. As it turns out, it's not actually me or my memory: it's that yeah, the list is like a page long and largely throwaway names I don't know anything about. Even worse is a lot of those titles are further diminished for the fact they are not new to the list, but YEARS on the list still waiting for a release date, like Ark 2, Silksong, and Avowed. I'm not even excited for those games either, especially Avowed that looks much more cartoony like Outer Worlds than the trailer we first got. Ugh.

This is all of course in the shadow of next month when tons of new announcements will happen, but honestly: they don't get a pass in my book because this is the first time I can recall that there's not a fuller roadmap of excellent titles on the list, if even years off. And my wishlist has no shortage of great games I'm anticipating so this is 100% isolated to Game Pass, not a 'there's nothing coming out I want to play' issue. There's also a smaller issue that some games aren't even on Xbox but that's not really within scope, just an industry problem.

Also, here's a question I don't hear anyone asking: what the fuck about WoW expansions? Unless they have some plans to announce it for PC Game Pass but do plan to include COD on GPU, then how the hell do they justify it as not applicable? $40 is a full game purchase, not some DLC nor could it even be considered as such since it adds an entire new world of content and 2 years of live servicing. That's fully within reason to be put on Game Pass as a day one. The cracks in their words are beginning to show and I don't think they even thought this through. I don't buy the bullshit reason that they spent a year fighting the FTC rather than planning how these games would be handled. That should have been laid out LOOOOOOOOOOONG before even numbers were being talked to purchase. The how to integrate, I fully get takes years but don't tell me you never had a fucking plan of which games or what would the numbers be like to support it.

That sounds more like every shithole company that acquires a smaller fish because they had a product of value and they spend the next 2 years supporting that company they bought only to drown it in the end without having solid plans in place. I see that shit constantly in my industry and can't stand it. I expected more having worked with MS in the past because they do have teams with their shit together.

All I know is there is a bunch of first party games announced as coming this year and zero announced for Sony. We’ve got a great year ahead IMO! But to each their own…

As far as GamePass third party titles, I wouldn’t expect to know what’s coming. 90% of it is announced the month they are added. Not months ahead of time.

Eh, the console wars of who's bringing what I couldn't care less about. Also, is there a better list than what I found? I'm not sure I agree with a bunch of first party games because as it stands to be released, that's COD and the WoW expansions. I don't think anything else first party has a 2024 date named yet, or is solidly confirmed for this year yet (more tentative 2024).

When I think back to the biggest screw ups by Microsoft over the history, one at the top of my personal list would have to be getting rid of split screen on Halo. I think this was the biggest mistake in Halo history. I personally know at least 3 couples that didn't buy the later Halo's due to they played it split screen as a couple and didn't want to have to buy 2 Xbox systems to play it together. My wife and I played the earlier campaigns split screen as well and I would have loved to share that same experience with my kids but that getting axed from all the latest Halo's was a big let down from Xbox to me. I would have been fine playing it 1080p 30fps or whatever they had to downgrade it to for split screen. Having worse graphics for more fun is fine with me.

*Sees Brooks XBox Wingman adapter got an update this month*

Oh cool, maybe Microsoft got their heads out of their ass and made it so I can use my adapter again for this problem that shouldn't be a problem in the first place and maybe they've learned...

TRY A DIFFERENT ACCESSORY

To continue to suck and shove their dicks and heads up their own asses and continue to suck.

Seriously, what's the goddamn point of doing this? Especially when they're goddamn alluding that their next console will be more open and compatible with Epic Game Store (and rumor of Steam side loading), Like it just makes me think they're going to not totally get it still with shit like this.

This isn’t just GamePass and isn’t a complete list either but gives you an idea and while there may not be actual release dates, MS did confirm the first party games in that article as coming this year.

First party includes:
Hellblade II
Avowed
Towerborne
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Flight Simulator 24
Ara: History Untold

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster on XBOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............................................?
Probably, within 3 years since that's the timeline for the plan. I'm not sure if they would classify these as "HD" or "SD" for the strange wording they have, Probably SD I guess.

They seem like a no-brainer port to all viable platforms though, and PS to Xbox ports are supposed to be relatively easy.

Sounded like SD was referring to mobile games.

I Like to believe this is similar to how whenever several of us buy a game on XBox that it "magically" suddenly goes on Game Pass that me getting a PC that can play majority of Square's catalog "magically" got them to put more games on XBox so you're all welcome. I Just wish the whole country code blocking wasn't such a problem because it was more fun getting Square Enix games for $10 or less as opposed to waiting for five years to get them to mark a game down over 50% off.

Beyond any short-term cash that Sony might throw them to keep something exclusive, it's hard to imagine exclusivity being good business for third party publishers when you think about the cost of development for a game like FF7 Rebirth. Especially when the architecture of both consoles is so similar to PCs now, over a five year timeline for a game with mass market appeal like FF7, they're leaving money on the table.

I'm assuming FF14 on Xbox has done very well in terms of players, working with Microsoft on the business end, or both.

Now they reworked how the Fallout 4 performance modes function despite saying a week ago that the obviously broke Xbox version was working as intended. Now you pick desired FPS and graphics quality independently. Really they should have just give more PC options with this solution (shadow quality/foliage/LOD), but whatever.

I don't know why they just didn't delay the update until now, they already missed the launch of the show.

The Japanese stack of Voodoo Dice is also 80% off, 103 yen vs. 515.

Also, the last couple days I've gotten around the 15-20 minute cooldown on PC searches. I generally start from the US News search and click through the headers at the top of the page, opening each one in a new tab. When I ran out of headers, I'd go to one of the tabs and open more tabs from that page's headers. I would wait about 5 seconds between searches, but then have a 15-20 minute cooldown after a set of 4. Have missed some searches because I'd forget to go back to do more.

Using the search bar appears to prevent the 15-20 minute cooldown. I just click in there and pick one of the modifications to the search for that page. Doing that, I was able to get through the 30 searches in about 5 minutes. Could've been faster, but I kept making sure my point total went up. I think the few times it didn't was because I repeated a search.

Just the 5 second cooldown for me on mobile searches and no cooldown on news stories.
