Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-16
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

On a (maybe) slightly less depressing note I'm hoping someone could explain how redownloading digital 360 games is going to work post the marketplace shut down. They're saying if you've already purchased it you'll be able to re-download it but the store is getting shut down. But the 360 doesn't have a library of owned games like current Xbox platforms. So will the store still be searchable for downloads?

It's been years since I've been on a 360 but I just hooked one back up so I can go and get some of these games I'm interested in before they get delisted. But want to make sure I'll actually be able to redownload them once the store gets shut down

Your download list should still be accessible and software redownloadable from there

It is very cumbersome to go through the download list on the Xbox 360 if you have a lot of games for sure. Ever since they got rid of the web based list it has become pretty much unmanageable for powerr users. I miss the days of queuing up downloads to my home console on the website and as soon as I logged into the 360 the games just started downloading. Back when XBox was an awesome brand.

All the songs I've downloaded for Rock Band and Guitar Hero just make me give up ever redownloading anything off the 360 list. I would more than willingly submit to piracy before I ever go through that list trying to find some vague piece of DLC that I bought that Microsoft didn't even bother listing the name of the game on it.

Know not everyone is a fan of Phil Spencer but I wouldn’t be surprised if the next shoe to drop is him leaving. I honestly don’t think this is what he envisioned for Xbox but don’t think he’s pulling the strings anymore.
If he does, it will be his own volition. Hard to keep your heart in the game when decisions from the top keep destroying it for you. The closures were the right call for a lot of dead studios though. Tango just came down to sales/engagement sadly.

Anyone else wonder if GamePass itself is what is leading to all this upheaval? I honestly find that I am less inclined to use GamePass due to fear of the game leaving the library unexpectedly. I have focused on beating the core Microsoft games that are permanently in the library and the odd shorter experience (Shredder's Revenge) type game that interests me. After completing the Halo series and Gears of War series, there aren't a lot of games left that interest me outside of perhaps the Fable Games. The racing games (Forza) get repetitive and boring for me. If the costs rise then it becomes more financially prudent to just buy what I want on sale and get to it on my schedule.

Granted, I am a relative new-comer back to the Xbox scene having transitioned from the OG Xbox to Playstation 3 in the mid 2000s due to Microsoft forcefully removing all OG Xbox game stock from Gamestops while PS2 players still had the ability to buy cheap old preowned games. I tend to buy my non-exclusive games on the PSN network since it has traditionally had better exclusives.

However, now that the Steam Deck is out I am trying to transition away from these consoles to Steam for better security/stability going forward since the game library will be forward-compatible with future PC-based systems along with having free cloud storage for game saves.

I Mean there's enough reason to fire him when you see the only Microsoft first party franchise and studio that can put games out regularly with no constant shake ups is both Forza games. Otherwise look at Halo Infinite and how long that took and even after release they had absolutely no idea how to keep the momentum despite so many games they could've copied. Perfect Dark probably won't see light of day until near the end of this decade at best. State of Decay 3 we ain't hear a word from since that announce trailer. That game announced by Rare we don't see. Fable doesn't have a time frame or any real substantial gameplay. I'm sure there are other games that haven't done anything or seen any movement since being announced, but the fact I can just name those off the top of my head shows the man gotta commit to getting actual exclusives out there. The one studio that has flourished under Phil is Obsidian, but that's because no one has ever given that company the time and money to do whatever and they are working like the rug can be pulled under at any second.

Also I'll just say we going to get Metroid Prime 4 before Perfect Dark and hell, there's straight up HIGHER CHANCE we can get a Metroid Prime 5 before they even drop Perfect Dark with all the behind the scenes mismanagement on that game and that kinda blows my mind!

GamePass is definitely a factor, it tanks sales of any day one game badly, and it doesn't seem like the subscription numbers are supporting the difference.

And a different article being quoted and continuing the trend of yeah shit hella sucks!

Going to be one dark cloud hanging over that Xbox showcase next month. Also sounds like we lost a new Dishonored game as well!
If putting COD on Game Pass day one is even a debate, they've lost the vision. As I said, I'm no longer extending my GPU sub until it's more clear what their intentions are. It started off very strong but sounds like now they're dealing with the fallout of missed targets. People will claim it's sustainability but the reality is: the entire industry has grown unstable.

oh look whose eyes are opening.

*winkyface* 😉

The whole day one on GamePass release is awesome for gamers but when it's CoD level of money it makes no sense for Xbox to lose those sales. Most cod players buy the game 70 dollars but spend 2 or 3 times that on skins and bundles. Maybe that's what they are banking on but who knows. The day one, day and date release really needed to be it'll come 3 to 6 months after release. That would get the game back in the spotlight after initial hype has died off.....but what do I know I'm not an exec at these companies.

I don't think the magnitude of danger these budgets had grown to was visible to us until closures started happening. Companies were hiding the true numbers but can't hide the layoffs. We're only now getting to really see the impact.

This is a critical factor, and one Sony was wise to consider right away. MS has a lot of math to work out on releasing a new CoD game day 1 on GP vs 3-6 months down the road (which is likely the smarter idea and why we've not heard about the plan yet). I think the internal metrics right now are showing that Starfield/Redfall/Hi-Fi Rush are probably not moving the needle significantly in terms of subs. If Xbox doesn't release CoD this year as a day 1 release there will be additional havoc/criticism of Xbox. If they do release it day 1, it could backfire by not driving subs and being a huge financial loser for MS. If it was my company, I would at least do a day 1 release in 2024 as a trial and to shake off some of the abysmal news we've had recently. Might be a costly mistake, but the metric information would be very insightful for future plans.

Here are some outdated, but interesting stats on CoD sales. Simply owning ABK is a great cash cow, which is risky to jeopardize with Game Pass involvement. Based on the stats I found a few days ago, I'd think CoD would be a perfect Game Pass game since so many people put so much time into it, and dlc is popular. Toss some monthly perks into the mix to keep people interested and you'd likely have a nice winner for Xbox.

Don't all those people who would have bought COD still need to have GP? I am not sure I am quite getting it. Are there people who buy COD that are done after 1 month AND spend $70 for the game? I feel like if you are a big COD player, then buying it is the better option anyway.

Edit: I am assuming the average GP subscriber is also not a huge COD player that pours hours into the game year after year.

They would need Game Pass Core (Formerly Xbox Live Gold) but they wouldn't need Game Pass for console or Ultimate.

PS Store Sales Charts - Europe (April 2024)

  1. Sea of Thieves
  2. Grand Theft Auto 5
  3. Helldivers 2
  4. Stellar Blade

Pretty interesting results on the European PSN sales charts. Former Xbox exclusive beating a brand new PlayStation exclusive at release?!?!

So it looks like the countdown in Bloomy's tracker for Just Cause 4 was a huge price increase in Argentina. Wasn't limited to Just Cause 4 either, apparently 90% of Square Enix published titles just got their price nuked over there (talking +17,000% in some cases).. Not sure why it's necessary at this point since getting new codes from there has been 100% dead for some time and the amount of people who are doing proxy purchases has to be infinitely smaller, but I guess they're that desperate for more revenue. Locals must be fuming.

Just cements that Sea of Thieves (and most Xbox stuff for a while now) was never a system seller for someone who was already invested into the PlayStation ecosystem.

Also seems like Stellar Blade isn’t a system seller for Sony. I honestly don’t think either side has had system sellers this gen so far. People are sticking with the ecosystem they locked into last gen for the most part. Heck, Sony doesn’t have any AAA first party games this year and the PS5 is still selling.

Not a great comparison. Stellar Blade is is published by them but not a first-party game, and being a Nier style action game with Korean coomer art style makes it at least a little niche. Beating Helldivers is more impressive, but that's a couple months old now.

Of all the things they could / should have updated on the 360 OS, it's the digital library management. PS3 is just as bad and it just astonishes me.

Pretty crazy that wasn't something they had a clear vision and understanding of when considering purchasing A-B, given that the biggest benefit is to expand the titles available for Game Pass. Maybe some of the same execs demanding blood sacrifices didn't realize how GP works when the sale was going through?

There's plenty of ways they could add perks instead, but not without walking back their most simple and marketable premise: first party games are Day One.

Only Spider-Man 2. I bought my PS5 in anticipation of FF16 but it's not a true system seller IMHO.

Now with those games eventually going to PC, I doubt as many people will want to drop $400-500 on a console if they weren't already interested.

Beat me to saying it. FFXVI and Rebirth probably moved some systems too but based on their sales, I agree with you about it not really being enough to count.
It’s amazing to me that neither one of the Final Fantasy games are even in the top 20 on PSN both in Europe and the US. Older games like The Witcher 3 are even in the top 20.

Square surely has to be disappointed in how they’ve sold, particularly Rebirth.

This is correct. And that would be very interesting to see numbers ,they moved xbox live Gold to GPC for a reason. Doubt we would ever get it but I want to see the split between core and ultimate.

Splitting FF7 into 3 parts was always going to be bad for sales of individual titles. It's bad enough that the first game is just as much a sequel to a 28 year old game as it is a remake. Selling additional sequels to that is an uphill battle because people don't want to jump in late.

If they do make another AAA budget remake, X is probably it, and I'd expect they'll try a more faithful remake of just 1 with new content. I'm curious how the rumored IX remake will be handled.

Crime Boss: Raccoon City Rocket City Rockay City(???) is free to play this weekend. This is that game that has all the B and C list celebrities and got terrible reviews and I have no idea what kinda game it is (FPS? Crime simulator? Strategy?? Seriously I got no idea!). I Want to download it so I can know what the fuck it is, but I also like the possibility of never knowing and for all I know is a kart racing puzzle game rogue like.

I somehow forgot about FF7R when replying earlier. Rebirth is so huge that I don't think making it into three parts hurts the experience, but there are definitely folks waiting for all three to be out before diving in. I didn't realize it wasn't charting anymore on PSN though.

All of it makes it even harder to fathom having a new console generation in three years.

I’ve enjoyed the remakes, but you hit the nail on the head about staying faithful. I feel like these remakes robbed me of a traumatizing scene from when I was a kid. Seeing Sephiroth impale in the original Final Fantasy seven was traumatic to me. lol. This new game that completely and kind of upset about it.

I think it's something akin to Payday. I bought it last year and didn't play much.
I didn't think it was nearly as bad as I heard but it wasn't what I was expecting and deleted it pretty quick.

It's brutal reading anything Xbox lately. They're getting dunked on hard everywhere you look. I wonder how long until we see some big shakeups.

Okay, but how's the farm sim aspect of it? I Will keep making up whatever the hell this game is regardless.

I Mean this should've finally been The Year. PS5 really got nothing going on first party wise. A bunch of first party games that were announced years ago finally seeing the light of day (and on Game Pass day one) and hey we should be balls deep in Activision games and a XBox game showcase next month! Instead just no idea what they're doing and legit sounds like shit will be hopeless for awhile. Hell might as well throw in the constant nerfing of the Rewards program (their random countdown timers for searches are the goddamn worse) and also the closing of foreign game codes all make it hard to find any positives right now.

In better news, we're getting a new Lord of the Rings movie about Gollum and I hope they take notes from my playthrough of Return of the King on Gamecube and just make it that Sam and Frodo versus Gollum boss fight, but with "WHOOP THAT TRICK!" On repeat for two hours.

Bingo. but.

Customers aren't going to pay premiums, and double tiered membership access, for another inferior platform's experience. Gamepass is wholly different from 'buying full retail versions'. The game is either free with Gamepass or it's not. If it's free on GPU then you don't get all those 20mil in sales.

Right now Microsoft is holding Ace, King and almost forced to go all-in, but while they're 4th in chips at the table. They are currently at a crossroads. But the other players get to keep playing the upcoming hand. Either route they choose could be super risky for the immediate future of the entire Xbox brand.

Hedging isn't going to work well either. Gamers have choices where to play now. Honestly MS should probably just go all-in and play hardball with their properties. Or else you need a full wide release with no weird gatekeeping. (Sony and Nintendo are NOT going to have Gamepass on their platforms, and that I keep hearing people say that is laughable derangement. No one needs them; it's the other way around.)
The biggest thing I keep coming back to is how Xbox's retail presence is almost nonexistent. That's free advertisement man! People get older, and "there's not any good games to play". MS really needs to focus more on their (real world) presence and marketing. Right now it has almost become a fully-online cult niche. I mean the shelf real-estate, cardboard cutouts, and promotions are nearly free. Why are you squandering all that?? Is something else happening? Sure seems so.

The Steam box already happened. How'd that go? no one cares. Valve is copying Nintendo's hardware model now. What is Microsoft doing?

I seen that happened for the other vampire survivors DLCs on on release, it will take a few days for it to appears and work.
That is good! I was about to start a riot! Could not bear the loss of a quarter with all the bullshit Microsoft has been pulling! I will keep my quarter! Damnit! Nevermind I am paying in Bing Points!

On a side note week 5 of 20 ARP from Alienware Arena :(

It if funny if they didn't shut down Tango this whole thing would been over. No one is boycotting MS over the developers of Mighty Doom and Redfall.
I mean losing Arkane Austin sucks too but yeah, the other two studios getting shutdown is a nothingburger comparatively (unless you're a big Human Head fan as I went into earlier). Tango has the benefit of being their only Japanese studio and having recently put out a critical darling (especially in comparison to a lot of Xbox first-party output in the last decade).
I've definitely seen some people (probably weebs) going overboard and saying they should have shut down 343 instead. Joke's on them, they basically already did. :ROFLMAO:
I'm still hopeful that 343 might be able to get its act together after the house-cleaning. They've made some good changes to Infinite already, just a shame that they are backing away from it at this point and leaving a bunch of cut content unfinished.

I Ain't boycotting, but I am pissed at not just losing Tango, but with Arkane Texas gone it sounds like we lost a Dishonored game. All because Todd Howard forced a multiplayer FPS game on them.

I think I had something like 7 weeks in a row of 20 arp and then got 500 drp 2 out of the next 3 weeks.

Hopefully a month straight of 2000 DRP! lol

I was wondering do people still play Destiny 1? I don't remember where left off probably taken king....Is it worth buying the collection? I never started Destiny 2 am I too far behind? Do characters transfer from D1 to D2? And now is it cross play / save?

Also I have the just for you offer for Assassins Creed Odyssey Ultimate / Gold.... worth it? one was $8 & $12, I think I had all the other DLCs.

Sarah Bond is the first to communicate, via Bloomberg interview, this week. Talks about closures.
Embarrassing interview. She completely deflects all questions except about mobile games.

Q: "Why close the studios, why Tango when they just made a highly successful game?"

A: Did you see Fallout on Amazon Prime?

Q: What about people worried about future consoles being made?

A: That's a concern in the ENTIRE industry (lol). I've committed to backwards compatibility in the future.

I mean I would say the whole of the Xbox executive team has always been pretty awful especially in regards to having open and honest conversations around serious issues (like in this case). I'll watch the full interview on my commute in a bit but doesn't surprise me she just deflects everything. The obvious exception to all of that was always Phil who did genuinely feel like a gamer and always felt sincere but I think at this point he's burnt pretty much all his good graces. Whether he was involved in this decision or if it came from the Microsoft higher ups, he still has fault here.

I was curious why - typically it was always Phil who did announcements and interviews and things and I'm surprised it was Booty who announced the closures and did the town hall and now it's bond doing the press tour. Feels like big shake ups at MS are happening or just actually kicking in after their previous role changes

The Xbox team got reorganized after the Activision deal finished. Booty is the person directly in charge of the studios, and Bond essentially has Spencer's previous job as far as I can tell. I guess he won't be the only one jumping on grenades now.
