No, pre-orders aren't part of the sale, unless they come out during the sale. Some people have had some luck in the past with getting store associates to give them the discount on a pre-order when ordering in-store, but that's extremely YMMV and I think it's even less likely now than it used to be.

FYI, it appears that the 30% off one item Black Friday coupon does work for Criterion sale items.  I ordered the new Complete Jacques Tati set for $43.74 after the coupon (normally $124.99, Criterion sale price $62.49). The coupon code is BFRIDAY14 and it's good through Sunday.

No, it's definitely a high-def transfer... just not a particularly good one. But it is, like I said, noticeably better than the DVD. And it's got lossless audio, which is also an improvement over the DVD. Here's a review of the release which gives a pretty fair summary of the good and bad...

Oddly, there's no listing for a separate release of Dominion, which I honestly thought was a better movie than Exorcist: The Beginning.  So maybe it's only available with the set?  For the price, I'll just get the set and possibly just sell off my separate copy of The Exorcist.

On the other hand, eh... it's $5, and it's still (at least a bit) better than the DVD. Might not be worth an upgrade if you've got the DVD, but if you don't have the movie at all and want it, it's a feasible option. We're probably not going to get a better US release anytime soon. I've heard...

On the one hand, it annoys me to all hell that they're forcing me to buy The Exorcist again to get the other movies.  On the other, Exorcist III on blu-ray!  Finally!  At least the price is pretty reasonable for the number of movies in the set.

Hah, I ended up spending *way* too much on RSD (hence why my total for April is through the roof...). I had to have the Minus 5 set (which was $94 all by itself), and it all spiraled downward from there... :)
