2014 Thrift Store Thread - Post your finds here!

While we are on game guides, I got this from Savers recently for $1.99.

I have about 3 years of finds to post...IDK if I posted this before or not.

This was the first thing I found at SAVERS. It was the reason I went there faithfully for such a long time. Contrast this with my Mario Bros Watch collection (and their 29.99 cart only copies of goldeneye 64) and you can see how they adjusted their game pricing...

Picked up a Xbox 360 with a 60gig hdd last night at one of the goodwills by my house. No power brick but works beautifully and previous owner left a few downloads on it :).

For $15 :)

Yesterday's Goodwill pick-ups

new/sealed minecraft(xbox 360)(case is very damaged)-$10

new/sealed Mortal Kombat(xbox 360)-$10

new/sealed Zone of Enders HD Collection(PS3)-$10

last week, it was N64 controllers. This week, its 2 SNES controllers (not that knock off shit) and a Sealed PS2 Dualshock, Emerald color.

my kingdom for some goddamn genesis games :wall:

Bought these without hesitation hoping I can get the missing receivers somewhere.

Edit: pic won't upload from phone. They are two wavebird controllers for $2.99 each.

Edit:: think i got it from imageshack. Hate having all internet source from my god damn phone. Hard drive failures are not fun.

$3 each is still worth it, it's hard to find the receiver together. Though this does remind me of a post last year who found the receivers but not the controllers (really odd scenario). Happy I still have my gray wavebird from all those years ago.

2 $25 Gamecubes, $30 N64, and 2 $25 ziplock bags of Pokemon cards................UHHH NO THANKS GOODWILL! This is the same GW I got the $3 Pokemon games and Super Mario World for GBA. Then again its also the one that had the $75 Waynes World NES cartridge......same manager just happened to be there today so im not surprised.

The goodwills in NY have been giving me rewards points for years now, I think it's one point for every dollar spent, and when you reach 100 they give you a 10 dollar credit
If they did that here, I'd have been earning $20 a week in points back in my Goodwill Outlet days. Instead, they give you 10% off here when you spend $25 or more in one trip. They also send out $5 off $25 coupons sometimes.

Today's goodwill pick-ups

N64 console with power cord-$15

ice blue N64 controller with rumble pack-$3

2 - gray n64 controllers with rumble packs-$3 each

N64 Goldeneye-$2

PS2 slim with cords-$15

Found these at the thrift store across the corner from my house. All 4 were $2 apiece and all but Sonic 1 included the manuals. I do not own a genesis but couldnt pass them up.

Picked up a silver PS2 slim, silver dual shock 2, 8gb Sony PS2 memory card and a 3rd party PS1 memory card.  $15 for everything.

First PS2 slim I have ever seen at Goodwill.

Pick ups today:

Phat PS2 with memory card, cords, and controller - $12

Police Quest Collection - $2
NES Ikari Warriors 2 & Swords and Serpents -$3 each
N64 Starfox 64 and Tetrisphere - $5
Tetris 2 SNES $3

Passed on a $15 N64 with no cords, just a jumper installed. I did see an XOne controller for $52.99 and a stack of 16GB vita cards for 35.99 a piece.

Side note: It's been about 6 months since I have been steadily thrifting. Can anyone speak to whether or not there is still a market for Phat PS2s? I used to be able to sell them untested for 40 each but I can't even sell them for 25 each now. Did I miss something?

Thanks for the thread guys, I love reading everyone's scores. Keep them coming!

This is a pickup from late December that I finally got off my lazy behind to post

Sega Nomad(not sure if it works, don't have a charger although did come with a car charger so I have to try it out still)

1 genesis controller

1 after market controller

1 Force pack(guessing like a rumble pack?)

15 Genesis Games:

X-Men, Sonic 1,2,3 and Spinball, Jurassic Park, Superman, Ecco the Dolphin, Aladdin, NBA Hangtime, Charles Barkley Jam, Ghouls

and Ghosts, Tazmania, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

And Also Mario Kart 64 which was nice to find in this Sega Bundle

All for 14.99

Not a Genesis guy really, but figured was a pretty good deal, and always wanted to try a Nomad.

This is the an early January Goodwill find

Ps2 system with 3 controllers(1 of them ps1 I think)

2 memory cards

7 games:

Guantlet,  NHL Faceoff 2001, Triple Play Baseball, Kessen II, Final Fantasy 10 and 12(never played 12, always wanted to), and the main reason I picked this up Suikoden 5.

Suikoden 2 is my all time favorite game(and I game I've been looking for, for years now), but was really disappointed with 3 and 4, and by the time 5 came out, was so soared on the series and I think I was already on next gen stuff, that I never got 5. Heard it's a pretty sweet game though, so really happy to find that one.

Total was $24.99

I used to sell all of my ps2 phats/slims to a guy(that I shipped them to) for $40/eash(phat) and $25/each(slim). I think they will go for $25-$30 on craigslist(if they work) and if you have a bunch of them, you can usually get $30-$40 each on ebay(before fees/shipping). After the price drops I now only pay $15 tops for any ps2's that I find at goodwill.

The prices dropped about 2-3 months ago.

I came in here pretty much to ask this same question....picked up a couple complete fat ps2s the other day to flip and was disappointed by the market on ebay...they dont really seem worth it.

As far as gaming finds for me picked up a Official Force Feedback 360 Racing Wheel complete in box for $20 a couple days ago. And an xbox 360 for $20 at a different goodwill; I had a power brick and 120gb hdd at home that I never used. I usually pass on phat 360s but this one was actually a jasper and I had been looking for one for the bedroom; thankfully it worked.

Just found a few Nes games I've been looking for at goodwill. Super Mario Bros 2 and Dr. Mario cart only, and Super Mario Bros 3 and Yoshis Cookie in the box for $3.38 each. Left behind SMB/Duck Hunt cart and Tetris in the box. Pretty stoked to play SMB2 and Dr. Mario again. Had another pretty good find a few weeks ago that I never got around to posting, too- Spiderman, Legacy of Kain, Capcom vs. SNK, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Evolution 2, Dead or Alive 2, Sword of the Berserk: Guts Rage, and another one I'm blanking on, all for Dreamcast, $1.38 each. Also, Grandia 2 with manual/soundtrack, but no game, which they let me take for free. I'm thinking the game was in the dreamcast that I missed by just a few minutes.

Picked up these today for $3 each. Nothing great, but enough.

-Oregon Trail 4th edition

-Fable 1

-Herdy Gerdy

-God of War 2

girlfriend bought a bunch of shoes to sell on ebay, all I found was

House of the Dead 2 (GH) for dreamcast- 1.98

I never find dreamcast games, so I was quite surprised

Jungle Green N64 with all original parts, a jungle green controller, and a Zelda OoT for $20. Will post pictures when I can.

found ar tonelico melody of elemia artbook in my salvation army for fifty cents. Didn't realize how much people are trying to sell these things for so I'm happy with it. now all i need is the cd and outer box to make a complete copy

Picked up an Ouya console CIB for $50(Target return) which I didn't think was a bad deal & really wanted to check one out when I first heard about them on Kickstarter. I like the instructions - plug it in, turn it on, connect to wifi, have fun...

Pro-tip - if you return/donate merchandise that saves data, make sure you wipe it before returning/donating it. The Ouya came with someone else's account already on it and if I were a nefarious person I believe I could have had a field day buying apps & games on his dime...

Almost didn't stop at my local goodwill on the way home today.  Good thing I wasn't lazy, I found a game I've been wanting for a while for a decent price.  They had Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Time 3D for 3DS in the case priced 29.99 but it was half price.  That was complete and might even still have club nintendo points, haven't tried them yet.  Also for $2.50 I picked up disc only Starfox Adventures.

So far it's been strikeout city for me this year. Gonna try again tomorrow! First time in 2 months I haven't been busy on my day off, so I can go rummaging.

Jay Z Linkin Park Collision Course dvd/cd brand new $3

Zatch Bell dvd new $1

Mulan dvd $3

:ps2: NFS Underground $3

:ps2: Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow $1

:ps2: Innocent Life $3

Picked up Wing Commander IV, Command & Conquer, Throne of Darkness, and Drakan all complete and in their original big boxes from a Goodwill Outlet a few days ago for less than a dollar. I dont know if anyone has ever been to a Goodwill Outlet before, but that is the probably the dirtiest place you will ever visit. However, I would say paying for everything by it's weight is a good trade off.

Yeah, I used to go to the local GW outlet a few times a week when they first opened. I always wore gloves, especially after almost cutting myself on broken glass and loose knives.

I go maybe once or twice a year now, ever since they started pulling everything of value for ShopGoodwill and leaving literal junk for sale.

Finally had my first great thrift store find of 2014.  Went to Ohio Thrift in Columbus, OH and found Spyro the Dragon (PS1) for $1.99, complete in box with manual.  Plays great too!

Also saw a PS2 official memory card for $2.99, but passed.  Once I buy a PS2, then I'll start looking more seriously for those.

You can nab them for less from game stop if you find em, for about a buck each. Check online if your stores have them, and when the employee looks at you weird and says "we don't have those" tell them it probably is in one of the random junk drawers or something.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've never owned a Sony console and am starting to learn these systems and the market.

So I got this for $4. Its missing the remote but everything else was in the box. Have the laptop currently streaming to the surround sound receiver and it appears to work perfectly.

Absolutely correct about the gloves, that shit is deeeerrrr-ta there. if you got cut while digging, that might be the end of ya.

That outlet you are speaking of (N. Versailes right?) does have some good stuff every now and then. First time I went there I found a SNES with cords and everything plus Chuck Rock, Mario Kart and Joe & Mac. It was sitting in an (assumingly) abandoned cart and not in a blue bin.

I keep finding good stuff this year. Stopped by a GW before my first client today, picked up

Ducktales NES- $4 (needless to say, there was a "Wooh-Who" when I saw it). The black sleeve has a really cool, official Mega Man sticker on it too!

Goldeneye N64- $4

and some fancy purse (Nicole lee or miller or something), new with tags for my gf to sell on ebay for $5

The funny thing (or sick if you want to go there) is that in the small stack of NES games, there was a copy of Super Mario 3- marked at $6.99. Like the manager saw it and though "Hey its a Mario game so I can jack the price up a couple bucks! JUSTIFIED!!!!!" Nuh-uh, not this guy, Hoss. I see what you did there and I will NOT buy into your lame pricing tactics.

On the way home from work, figured I would try my luck at another GW. Found a CIB copy of FInal Fantasy XI Vana'diel Collection 2008 for 360. Has the quick start guide and everything. $3 bucks after discount. I am torn about even putting it in my xbox since I don't know if I can get a free trial for it. Anybody ever play this/find a used copy before?

I guarantee someone lost their shit when they came back in from their car. The rare time I go up there I'm afraid to look at anything in a cart... I don't want to get shanked over some dirty crap. :)

Had a win today, a bunch of Judas Priest CDs, luckily the discs were stolen. Some PS2 sports games, oh yeah stolen discs again.

WHO THE fuck WOULD STEAL A COPY OF MADDEN 2008 OR NASCAR 2006 FOR THE PS2? SERIOUSLY!

I am still on a dry streak. I saw a Chapelle's Show Season 2 DVD last week, and it got snagged about the same second I saw it.

Based on the crappiness of the Goodwills so far, I hope this is not how Rummage season is gonna go.

Yeah, this 100%. But the rule is, at least it used to be, if you don't want your shit messed with, throw a blanket over it. If the cart is there unattended and uncovered, it's fair game. But I'd still be leery as there are some fuck ing psychos that shop there.

That said, that is another reason I stopped going there. It got so bad with people hoarding carts that the last few times I went before saying " fuck it" was I had to wait 15-20 minutes to get a damn cart. They were all parked along the wall with blankets on them. People had 5+ carts each, and that's bullshit.

I thought most GWs kept discs at the checkout now? All the ones I go to have binders full of discs.

My GW just throws the games, movies, cds and books all in a big rack. Only if they are sealed do they go in the case.
That's how mine are. I got 3 within about 10 miles and they all do that. The one downtown is a bit different, but down there if it isn't bolted down, it gets stolen.

Pick ups today:

Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Hoyle Casino

For Dreamcast $1.99 each both complete.

Went to the case to look in it and lo and behold I found Final Fantasy II cart only. $3.99. I got it immediately lol.

Next goodwill I went to I found some World of Warcraft stuff. 3 novels, 2 graphic novels, and 4 official magazines. Anyone interested in WoW stuff?

Been having a bit of a dry spell, picked up the CD-ROM PC version of The Adventures of Willy Beamish for $2, which surprised me because I only remember the Sega CD version.  This was the same GW I found DOTT earlier this year.
