2014 Thrift Store Thread - Post your finds here!

To all Pittsburgh CAGs, not video game related, but the RWB on 51 had an armory full of nerf guns and bags of bullets earlier today.

I didn't really check out the prices as I'm not at all interested in those, but they had tons.

Drat! I'm not going to be out that way anytime soon. Thanks for the heads-up, though.

Savers lately have been  complete busts, but the goodwills have been pretty kind, here are today's finds

Doctor Who Season 2 and 5(  5 is sealed) for 4.99 each

Power Puff Girls Season 1,  1.99

Gamecube controller,  3.99

Yellow N64 controller, 2.99

Superpad 64 controller red with box, 2.99

PSP system, Star Ocean First Departure, Second Evolution, Final Fantasy 20th anniversary, 39.99

Stoked for the PSP lot, as I've never owned and always wanted a PSP. Final Fantasy is missing manual, other games complete

Yellow N64 controller alittle loose on the analog, all controllers need alittle cleaning.

Had a 10 off credit, so whole lot was 10 bucks cheaper which was a nice bonus.

You're on Okchiefs Facebook page, I saw this!

Active Life Explorer looks like The Best Game Of All Time
Every thrifter goes through this symptom and scenario: Find a cheap bad looking game, pass on it. Then check it later on, knowing they can at least make $8-10 bucks on the game if they flip it. After wallowing in self loathing for a day or two, they resolve to stop by again and buy it if its still there. The heavier the find drought, the more likely this will happen.

Is Radiata Stories that game with like 300 characters or something? I kept wanting to try it, but the more I read about it, the worst it sounded.

Spot goes to Hollywood sounds like it could be a gem as well.
Yeah, basically the game encourages you to play through it a few times to build up relationships with the hundreds of available characters (subsequent playthroughs retain the relationship logs). Good for those who like to replay RPGs, but so far that's not really me (except for PM TTYD).

Spot goes to Hollywood is a decent game, originally played it on the Genny, but not as good as Cool Spot for both Gen and SNES.

Finds at the local thrifts in the last week or so:

And my favorite find, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D Official Soundtrack for 1.99
Didn't someone else on here find the MM OST recently?

Not a gaming find sadly, but I did find a great deal elsewhere.

Scored a NorthFace vest for $3. Was happy about that!

Picked up NASCAR Season 2003 for 2.99 today. In the box. Was pretty pumped to find that! But sadly, that was my only good find.

They had an original game boy for 29.99... I'm not a fan of the new pricing at my good wills.

Edit: Added picture

Yep, that was me. I wonder what other stuff the donor gave away...

[attachment=3663:gamecube_thrift.jpg]

Genesis games: $1 each

Pokemon plushes: .50 each

Gamecube: $21.99 after I brought the lack of controller to their attention.

These games were $3 each. Labels are in bad shape but pretty decent price.

Was out of town for the weekend at a gamestop and wasn't paying attention to the worker at the front. Bought Metroid: Other M for about $7.50, later on at home realized they had put Metroid Prime Trilogy in the case. Not too shabby.

Past few days have been decent for me, even videogame-wise.

360 Les Paul guitar for 2.99, in amazing condition.

Star Wars X-Wing Alliance PC for $2

A bunch of random toys and plush to resell

And today I decided to drop in since my daughter missed the bus and I had to drive her to school.  Big finds of the day are a sealed Skylanders Bash (clear blue variant) for .99 and a console-only TG16, with King of Casino inside it.  Console is a bit filthy and no idea if it works, but for $1.99 it was worth the chance.

I'm heading back over later today to see if they put out anything else for it.

nice score on the TG-16 console, I found one at a garage sale years back with 15 games for $20. I love that console, I had one back in the day, chose it over the genesis.

CIMG1956.jpg

The Goodwills have been pretty good to me lately, but struck out there today, so decided to go to one of the local Savers, and I think I did

pretty well...

Power Rangers Plug and Play 4.99

Pokemon Fire Red Version Gameboy Advance  2.99

Pokemon Diamond Version ds 2.99

Conker Live and Reloaded Xbox 4.99

Okami PS2 4.99

tg-16 would be a stroke inducing find for me, very nice find!

I stopped by the anime filled GW from last wek before class today, and found MX vs ATV Untamed for PS3 CIB for 3 bucks. also grabbed New Super Mario Bros Wii in the sleeve for 3 bucks. picked it up and it was heavy- because there was a copy of Wii Sports and Jeopardy in the sleeve with it. I was alright with that lot.

Did you find any more goodies for that turbo? Haven't seen one of those in person in many years.
Nope, nothing. And it sucks that controllers alone are going for $25+. Power and AV I can figure out otherwise, so I'm not too concerned there.

I had a TG16 back when they first came out. But after beating both Bonk's Adventure and Bloody Wolf in less than a day each, I ended up returning the console and games to TRU (back when they had a much more lenient return policy) and bought a Genesis and Toe Jam and Earl instead (and got Sonic free by mail)

ya just missed the other day on craigslist ( i think it was monday) someone in the North Hills had 15 TG-16 games up for sale. If you want a multi-tap for it, I have one (not sure if it works because I don't have a system)

Today, I went to 5 stores (thats what happens when 2 out of 3 clients cancel on me and I have nothing to do for 4 and a half hours). 4 GWs all had nothing. Well, one had a PSP with a copy of the GI Joe movie game but it was in a case and no visable price on it. At a Community Thrift store, I did find

Lilo and Stitch DS game complete- $1 (bought it because I am dumb/was bored)

Halo 2 Limited Edition Steelbook thing- $3 (didn't buy it because game disc was jacked up and case was not the best condition)

Call of Duty MW2 Wii- $1 (disc only, bought it because...I don't know actually. boredom i guess)

annnnnndddd

Megaman Legends-$1 (I did buy this! there is no manual but the back insert is there and the disc is in good shape too). Very happy with that, just sold my CIB copy 2 weeks ago so now I don't feel as bad

I just found a copy of both at a flea market. I had seller's remorse about selling mine several years ago, but I got a higher price a few years ago.

Man those games sucked when you compare them to Megaman games, but they were not terrible.

Found this in a catch-all bin at a used clothing store. Complete in box for three dollars, so no complaints.

Today, stopped by the shitty Community Thrift that I found the Lost Odyessy guide last week or so. They had some stuff (!), but all I grabbed was GTA Vice City Stories for $1 and Call of Duty World at War PS2 for a buck- that is sealed! two sealed games at two different stores in one week? crazytown.
I remember the last time I went in there (2007-8ish) they had something like this (sans Power Ranger branding). They wanted like $50 for it, but IIRC, the game inside was literally this, but instead of pressing buttons you had to punch and kick with all that shit strapped onto you.

Yea, I just have a nostalgia thing for the 1st legends game. A friend and I went through both of them a few times in what seems like a lifetime ago.

lol, the funny thing is that when I was there yesterday, they had a Japanese Voltron from 83 marked at 99 bucks! I told the lady that even at 50% off it was too much for me to spend (missing sword, the missile and one of the wing things). it is such a weird store. are you from the north hills in pitt?

Thanks. I'll probably order one. I have a ton of old PS1 controllers lying around somewhere. It would be nice if you made one that worked with OG Xbox controllers. I prefer the feel of them over PS, but eh, it would still work.
If you had a little gumption and a decent wallet, or a BIG wallet you can get a Sega Saturn controller working on the thing through Daisychaining. I built one of those and it works fine, though on the PlayStation Select is the L Button.

Went to one of the local Savers yesterday and picked these up:

Umizoomi DS 2.99
Pokemon Stadium 4.99
Pokemon Snap 4.99...
Diddy Kong Racing 4.99
Pilot Wings 64 4.99

Games need to be cleaned up alittle, but for the price I thought they were pretty
good deals. DS game missing the manual

And this is why i look through the record rack before leaving Goodwill,

99 Cents and almost mint.

I really need to start looking through the records at thrift stores... not because I might find a rare/valuable record, but because of the old computer games that came in that sized packaging. :/

you guys are crazy megaman legends 1&2 are awesome, I'm still bitter about what what happened with MML3. damn you capcom :bomb:
Agreed, MML1 was good but a little rough around the edges, though the sequel pretty much refined it to perfection. I liked hunting out the parts to build the upgrades, felt satisfying to find a combination that worked.

You might want to check the Board Game rack too, Sometimes big box games get tossed in there.

Oh, I do. I always look for jigsaw puzzles and board games and found quite a few big box games there. :) Thanks though.

I picked up one of these Barbicide jars today for $3. I'm a little upset it's not an older one, but it's still a cool decoration for a couple bucks.

I passed on a Game Gear for $5 today, and kind of regretting it.  It was missing the battery covers, but came with an AC adapter.  What held me back was if the screen was any good or not, and unfortunately, the GG doesn't have a test/startup screen when there is no game in it, like the Gameboy.  The screen turned on, but without a game, there's no way to test if the screen is faded, contrast is out of whack or whatever else.  I already have two GG with bad screens.

I may drop back over in a bit and grab it if it's still there when I go to pick my daughter up from school....

Yeah, GGs are notorious for having bad screens and speakers, turns that $5 find into an additional $10 or more + time project to get it fixed back up. And it's not like they are in high demand like the Nintendo counterparts.

However the official AC adaptor would be worth it, as those can power up a variety of different Sega products.

Yeah, that's why I passed. The AC adapter wasn't official either, it was a Doc's,

I went ahead and picked it up and as I suspected, no good.  Turning it on, the backlight works, but screen is black and no sound. (Also one stuck red pixel).  I opened it up to check and sure enough, there's at least one blown cap.

A few years ago, I would have bothered to fix it, but I don't have the time to piss away on it, so I'm taking it back.  Luckily, I rememeber to ask them the ring it up as electrical, so I can get my money back if it didn't work.

Unless anyone wants it to fix themselves for $5 + actual shipping cost...

that sucks man. I haven't played a game gear that didn't have messed up video or sound in like 10 years. at least you can get your money back.

Over the weekend, stopped at one slightly north of the city after meeting my mum for lunch. Found

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Xbox-$3

Commit Suicide Human Larvae CD-$1

The Commint Suicide disc is brand new, still sticks in the case snug and such. I had it like 8 years ago, and forgot how good of a grindcore band they are. The drummer is fuck en nuts fast, which doesn't hurt anything (except ear drums).

Today, after going to the office for stupid paperwork submission, I decided to go to the GW on McKnight even though it could have made me late to my 2nd client. Found

Coraline DS

Manhunt PS2

Headhunter 2 PS2

and an Excel Saga Menche Plush

all for 4.50 with tax after discount. Coraline is complete, manual was never opened from the look/feel of it. Was in the case, and waiting for it caused me to be late to my clients house, but whatever. The two PS2 games were disc only, and in the caseless bin on the front counter at .50 each. Found Menche in the back with the toys, and did a double take because I couldn't believe it. He is cute enough to stay at my house for now!

On the way home, stopped at one more to kill time so as not to sit in traffic. Found

Dune 3 Disc Special Edition

Dune 2 disc edition

3 Iron Maiden cassettes (number of the beast, piece of mind, somewhere in time)

and a CIB Wii console in the case for 74.99 lol.

Wiggyx is in the business of Frankensteining these things.

Yeah, I've seen some of his work. I'm not looking to put much effort into it, so I'm probably going to just take it back tonight.

Now, another thing I found, which I am having ZERO luck finding any info on is a VideoNow Color, Spongebob Squarepants edition. I've looked high and low and can't find anything about this thing even existing, yet I bought one for 3.99 yesterday (that came with about 10 discs in a Spongebob Movie binder case).

Does it look like this? That's the only site where I can find a few listings of it, but can't find any real info.

Yeah, I'm from North Hills. I used to visit that store often, but they usually had nothing good or overpriced stuff. I also remember seeing a Star Wars VHS set for like $75. (I just found a sealed version of it on eBay today for $20. Sealed.) I don't know if it was expensive at that point or what, but it seemed way overpriced.

Well I had a thouroughly terrible day hunting. Hadn't been out in awhile but it was nice out and I was off work so I figured what the heck.

Hit a terrible Goodwill first just because it was on the way. Tons of PS2 sports games, but didn't initially see anything decent. Got to the case and there was an NES with the cables and two controllers. No games. $49.99. Ya... they also had four GBC games, Donkey Kong Land, Pokemon Yellow, Pokemon Gold and Silver. Donkey Kong was $6.99, the Pokemons were between $19.99 and $29.99. I passed, lmao.

Swung over to Half Price Books since I sometimes find stuff there. Forgot they just ended a coupon week. They did have a ton of really cool Laserdiscs. Star Wars Trilogy, Blade Runner, 2001, all kinds of cool ones. Not my thing though. I did grab my only buy of the day, a clearance copy of Deus Ex Invisible War for Xbox for $2.00. I've been looking for a copy for the right price for awhile and decided this was it.

Went over to a pawn shop I used to find great deals at but which recently has raised the prices of everything to crazy levels. Mario Sports Mix for Wii... $34.99. Zelda Skyward Sword... $34.99. A few DS games which were all stupid overpriced. A shame, a year ago these would have all been $10 or less. They did have a copy of Silent Hill 4 for Xbox for $7.99 which I thought about since that isn't a bad price, but I hate paying that much for an Xbox game at a pawn shop so I passed.

Finally hit a terrible thrift store where I never find anything. I've bought three things there ever and probably stopped 50 times. But its right next to the pawn shop so I always end up hitting it when I leave and I did find a copy of Digimon World 2 for $1.00 once so... started looking and in the CDs there were a bunch of PS1 games. Mostly junk or cheapo games but I spot a copy of Blood Omen Legacy of Kain. I was really excited until I opened the case... and it was empty, lol. Perfect way to end this day. A couple of the other cases were empty too, but the two that were were the junkiest of the remaining games while many still had the games. So not sure if it was stolen or just donated without the disc. Either way this store continues to suck.
