All of these stores that are closing don't accept the Replay Rewards card anymore?

That's retarded. The least they could do is give us points for paying the same price for what we could get at Walmart anytime.

Only thing of interest were a bunch of Wavebird Controllers for about $25 after discount.
Will wait and see . . .

Saw a couple PS2 games that were price $59. Did any ever list for that?
 
The only PS2 games that sold for $59 I think were the games with a special controller like the DDR game and dance pad bundles or some of the Karaoke Revolution w/ Microphone or Socom w/ Microphone bundles

Has there been any mention of the dates in which these stores will be going out? There are still some highly worthwhile things at my local Sam Goody and whatnot that I would like to pick up when they hit a good % off (probably around 50% or so for me at the earliest) but I'd rather play the waiting game until then. I'm just worried about the waiting game sucking and leading to utter disappointment.

What's interesting is that people are walking into my local store, looking around, and leaving. The people who are buying things are just picking up the recent releases on DVD with an additional 30% off. Nobody's touching the CDs, the regularly-priced movies are being ignored, and the electronics section is being mostly ignored. Guess that's what happens when even your "store closing" prices are still above and beyond what people want to pay. Seriously, $14 for a CD AFTER discounts? BS.
 
Does anyone know the official price of PS S-video cords? Because the local closing has like 2 more s-videos and 2 components, yet, the S-videos are still stickered at $29.99 while the Component are $24.95, obviously wrong, since s-video is cheaper.
 
I was in Sam Goody today and picked up Perfect Dark Zero for 35 bucks. I was told by the manager that the store i went to is closing at the end of this month so i am holding out for the anime.

agreed...way too overpriced store..i don't care how much rent cost in a mall. Same thing at the sam goody I went to. cd's are barely touched. Nothing I really want at this time..
 
The drop to 30-50% would have got me had it happened a week sooner. Now I'm employed by Hastings (starting sometime this week) and am assuming the amount I save on their prices after my employee discount will be about equal to what 30-50% off at Sam Goody is.
 
If this was already answered, sorry for asking again, but for those who have visited closing Suncoasts, do they have signs that indicate the percentage off?
 
I agree with what has been said about the high prices. I can't imagine paying $20 for a CD or $30 for a DVD. The only time I ever bought anything at Sam Goody was when they had a clearance deal like the occasional deal on a game like NFL Blitz 2003 for $9.88 when it was still $30 - $40 in other stores.
 
All I know is that if people aren't buying new CDs for $10 a pop at Target and the local CD stores I can't imagine how Sam Goody's price structure was ever a good idea around here.

As far as sale prices go...I think that may be hard to say. It probably will depend upon how much stock the stores are moving with their current discounts and when they have to toss more money at rent. Honestly, I can't imagine that the deals will go above 50% for most items, although it seems that in Sam Goody the music storage section is down to 40% off.
 
oh check this out...that one store i went to the other day... now they put up a sign saying buy 3 or more cds and get 30% off each :| what a load of crap.
 
Never shopped at Sam Goody (or any mall store) for games before, but the games I saw at a mall were all opened (assuming the discs were kept safely behind their counter). Are they actually allowed to open the games and then sell them as new???

So far I only shop at CC, BB, TRU and eBay for games. Make sure what to make of it at the mall.

Wow, that's really strange. I think I've been to around 20 different Sam Goody locations around the US and I have yet to see one ever do anything like that. For the most part the games are out on the sales floor, usually with the standard plastic protective security device on each copy.

I'm sure they're still allowed to sell them as new but...unless there are good deals I'd sort of think that thing was a bit suspect, myself. Personally it wouldn't be that much of an issue but since it's a bit out of the ordinary it stands out a bit.
 
Here's the only thing I found of decent value at the ONE Sam Goody I went to the other day.

Dead To Rights(Xbox-NON PH) $3.61 with tax.

Although there was a copy of DTR PH with a $9.88 sticker on it, I picked up the original which had a $4.88 sticker on it. So YMMV on the price discounts from PH to NON PH.

I'm going back to 2-3 other SG stores this weekend or early next week, hoping to maybe find a store with a PStwo or a Gamecube left in stock. I should've asked about the GC at the SG I went to this week, since the TRU I hit was all out of systems(cept GB Micro) already.

The one that is closest to me that is closing does this as a theft deterant. But having done it to a game in a long time most of the games I have seen this way are older titles.

The EBGames stores around here all do that. It annoys the hell out of me...enough so that I usually only buy used games there unless it's something I can't find someplace else. I actually bought a new game there once that was scratched from the employees handling it and sliding it in and out of sleeves. Grrr...

that really burns me when I travel all the way to find a game after I call and they say they got it "NEW" when it actually is the display case model and they refuse to give a open box discount, then i walk out , like may other people from that store, po'ed.

EB sucks period.
 
Those "open box" games most of the time are actually taken home by employees and played, or played in demo's at the store. Personally i think a game should be considered used as soon as the original shrinkwrap has been removed from the case/box. Ebgames wouldnt take a return on a new/unplayed game that had the shrinkwrapped removed now would they?? They would say, oh its been opened, its considered used now and we can only give the trade in value back to you for the game.

EB doesnt suck cause of the morning updates, heh, also their instore stock can be rewarding if you hit it at the right moment!

As for the DS games marked 39.99 they were always like that at sam goody and media play, trust me i was in those stores way before it was announced they were closing and their DS games were always priced at 39.99, its not a markup for the closing sale. Its just an example of the insane prices of the store. At least TRU doesnt have any gba/ds games marked at 39.99 i dont think, at least i havent seen one.

Its funny since with the Sam Goody in the McKinley mall in buffalo ny the sam goody is right across from the ebgames store and you can actually get a cheaper price by going to the ebgames store than at the sam goody store since sam goody originally charges more than ebgames. There is also an ebgames store on the outside of this mall about a 2 min drive away so you get to hit 2 birds with one stone for stock selection.
 
The Tampa, FL Sam Goody's are both at 30% off now. They still had systems at 20%, but every last one is gone now. Debated getting a PSP at 20% off, but figured it would eventually be $200 universally someday so I could wait. Not too many good game deals at either location. As mentioned above, a lot of the DS games are marked between $35 and $40, so even with 30% off it's still not a deal. This sale may need to hit 50% off before anything else is a deal.
 
update: The dullas town center in va, well they sold 3 out of 4 of those xbox bundles from monday as of last night. :( So i said fuck it and bought there last one at 30%. They also said on monday they had only 1 ds left, but when I bought it and then saw yesterday that they had 4 more behind the counter I was like ticked. I think all the employee's snagged the PSPs or are holding it somewhere til they reach 50% or something.

30% off an xbox bundle not bad right? (from 180$)

Also went to the Manassas Suncoast store, i got me an Ada Wong figure..30% off 11.99....woot I finally got my WONG :)
 
btw some lady and her son i think (teenager), brought a shit load of dvds to the counter a few people ahead of me, the guy behind me was making off beat comments about the dvds she horded and guessing about 250 worth of dvds.. prices were coming up somewhere between 10 something and 12 something for single discs. when they are normally priced that way at bestbuy/cc...when she hit total, it was nearly 550 bucks!!!! now thats way too much.
 
I hit my local one today for some interesting observations.

1) Prices are still mostly the same (between 20% to 70% off, depending upon the items). Most of the worthwhile stuff (DVDs, CDs, video games) are still at the 30% "eh, I could do better elsewhere" mark.

2) MASSIVE store activity. Sam Goody has never been this crowded before, even on the weekends before Christmas. Just one problem, though...for every 30 or 40 people walking into the store maybe 1 will buy a DVD. Guess some people still know how to shop.

3) All of the Clearance stickers that used to be on items, save for those that haven't moved in sickening periods of time (some CD cases, PS2 Eyetoys, SF Anniversary Controllers) have been violently ripped off the items with new price tags in their place. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem if the newly marked prices weren't MSRP or above MSRP. Seriously, if you couldn't sell electronics from 2002 with a massive discount it's unlikely that someone is going to pay full price on ancient tech just because you offer 30% off a crap price.

It's sad to see them failing horribly, at least locally, when it comes to clearance sales. Yeeeeesh.

The Montclair Suncoast is out of every good game or they never carried any of them.
 
a couple of deals Sam Goody in Capitola, California. best PSP game left was Burnout PSP for $34.99 after 30% off. they still had copies of Mario and Luigi for DS and a couple Nintendogs. I think I saw the Warriors for PS2.

also they had a lot of games in this cage looking thing behind the register. new stuff like Prince of Persia: TTT and Dragon Quest 8, which aren't too shabby for $34.99 + tax.
 
The Suncoast in the Burlington Center mall in NJ closed. I believe it's in Mount Holly, but I'm not sure. It's along a highway near where the township lines change.
 
I'm not even going to set foot in one of my local stores again until someone here says "50% off everything". If there's nothing left by then, or if they never hit that low, oh well. Nothing above that is a deal from those stores anyway.
 
I used to go to Suncoast solely for Manga and Anime/Game figures. Neither of those could really be found much cheaper in stores. Alas, they have not got in too many interesting anime figures as of late and have sent back all manga. Though, I would disagree about Sam Goody not having any deals at 30% off. The consoles and various games (DQ VIII, Shining Force Neo, etc..) are not that cheap anywhere else. I am wating for a least a 40% drop, though for Shining Force Neo.
 
I got a copy of Burnout Legends, Death Jr. and a Playgear Pocket for a total of about 70 bucks, I thought that was alright.

Depends on the Sam Goody, primarily. My local one doesn't have much but it does have several recent games at MSRP (less the sale price, of course) which includes Black & White 2 and a few copies of WoW. Others can be YMMV, with some stores having a huge selection of older games and still others that have absolutely nothing.

Sam Goody in Lakewood Center CA had HELLA video games,

but.. theyre all behind the registers with the spine towards you,

so a person who cant see too good (like me) doesnt even kno what they have.

but they also got a few games out on the floor,

At the moment WoW is currently MSRP ($49.99) less the 30% off, so it ends up being around a decent $35. Not the best, not the worst. I think Target had it the week before last at $30 as well, so if you REALLY want it this is a good time to pick it up. If you can wait, though, it may hit $30 again or so once the expansion is close to release (or so I guess).


By the way, to everyone else, ask the people in your store will take your contact info down for when the liquidation is over and in case you want some of the store fixtures. My local one has a book with people who have already claimed most of the game fixtures and all and some of the other displays in the store but, if your store will do this, you may be able to get some nice pieces of furniture and displays for reasonable prices. Just a heads-up!

hmmm does that include like there tshirt holders (those square ones?)..

What happens to the employees of that closing store? they are all laid off or get shipped to another store or what?
