I picked up the last XB360 VGA cable and Memory card (for hacking/experiments) last night at my location. They were 30% off but I don't think they would have lasted much longer, almost all the 360 stuff was completely gone.

Still, $27.99 for either of these items is cheaper than anywhere else around here so I feel pretty good about grabbing them.
 
Unbelivably, my local Suncoast isn't on there (Kennewick/Richland/Pasco Washington).

I have honest to god never seen a single person buy anything from there. Who wants to pay $30 for a movie that can be bought anywhere else for half that or under? Even the employees at the one by me have given up. "Yeah, you can buy this anywhere else for a fraction. Go ahead and go look for it. If you can't find it anywhere else, come back here." I've heard them say that several times, without any prompting by the customer.
 
Prices were terrible on the movies, I mean wow full blown retail. 30 percent off was barely making a dent, you know its bad when Best Buy's everyday prices beat them out. But on the other hand it wasn't a completely worthless trip, got xbox 360 pelican component cables for 15 bucks.
 
they had 1 gundam zeta boxset for a whopping 200 bucks, 30% brought it down to 140. No thanks, ill wait until the 40 or maybe even 50 off before i bite the bullet on that one

you do realize that,

1. the re-releases of Resident Evil 2-Code Veronica for Gamecube were originally $39.99 when they first hit right? I bought Nemesis at that price when it was first released for Gamecube, so I wasn't surprised Sam Goody had it marked the same price. also a lot of places that have it for that cheap have them on clearance because the game was out of print at one time and it is semi-old. Circuit City if I remember had a clearance of the Code Veronica game if I remember for Gamecube for next to nothing.

2. that some places don't bother to update their price changes. yea, it said $39.99, it's original retail price, but it rang up $10.71. I have no problem with that. if a price seems absurd sometimes, it helps to ask the cashier to price check it for you just in case they don't update their prices often.


and back on topic....good luck to everyone who has a closing Sam Goody near them. hope everyone is scoring some good stuff and solid prices.

Yes I remembered this when they first made the annoucement of RE2/3 coming to the cube..first they said 19.99 then they jacked it to 39.99. Some people said it was to help pay for the R&D for RE4, others said Capcom was trying to sqeeze as much as they could from those two games. I bought the last two copies roughly 2 years ago for about 23.XX at CC (RE2/3). Since the next resident evil movie was coming out later that year (2004) , I thought it would have been cool to have all resident evil games for the cube , so I had Zero, Remake, 2, 3 and Code Veronica all for the cube and later added RE4 :)

Too bad they never remade 2, 3 and CV ..it would have been so nice to have seen updated graphics..heck I would have paid 39.99 for them IF they were remade.

They've started doing 40% on DVDs and CDs when you buy 4 +.
I picked up Vol. 1, 2, 4, 5 of Seinfeld for 29.74$ each......not bad price for those.

you know i've been thinking of stock piling on 360 accesorries just for the hell of it, yes it could be atleast 5 years before I get an 360, but if accessories are that cheap, go for it :)
 
i know i will regret it but sam goody at westgate mall had arc the lad collectors kit, or what ever is called for 24.99, that price was with the 30% allready, looked in great condition
 
Just was in my local sam goody (wyckoff NJ) and while the dvd's and CD's were still only 30%, all the games were 40% off, not the buy 4 and get them either, it was every game...

unfortunately the selection was pretty badly picked over, but im going to check a different store tonight.
 
I might have to go sometime this weekend if it's 40% on games (though I think I pretty much have everything I want right now). They have jacked up prices though right? So most DS games are $35-$40 and 40% off that?
 
Honestly, thats what most stores do when they're having 'going out of business' sales. They put the prices back up to full retail for items that maybe just 2 weeks prior to the start of liquidation, were maybe HALF that.

Though, I have to admit, the TRU store I went to in Springfield, PA had games listed at $29.99, which I guess could be considered 'normal' retail price for some anymore. But really, the only thing good they had left by the time the games hit 50% off were the guides, which were like 70-80% off normal.

Sure, they had some copies of Psychonauts and a few PS2 copies of Heroes Of The Pacific left, but nothing really worthwhile.

Anyway, my nearest Sam Goody store is about 60 miles from my house, which would normally be about a 30-40 min drive, if I were on the interstate, but there's no real quick way to get to it.

I still laugh at all the people who bought up the PStwos at 20% off from Sam Goody, thats $120 dollars, which to me is STILL too much for a PStwo(since I've had a number of them).

I wonder when we're going to see another price drop from Sony on it?
 
Mine should be closing up within a week or so, since the workers told me before that they would be marking up the displays with prices once they were done with their liquidation and one of the workers was nice enough to give me a call this morning saying that the fixtures are being marked.

Personally, I'm still on the fence about whether or not to pick up a certain fixture myself, but otherwise the prices are pretty much the same, save for the Buy 4, Get 40% Off "sale" tacked on. Honestly, the DVD prices are still above and beyond DDD-level and the games that are left, and they do have a lot of quality titles sitting around, simply aren't worth the prices they want.

Oh well. I'd REALLY like them to just hit 50% off or so. Then I can at least feel good about grabbing a DVD set, some more XBLive goodness, or a worthwhile game.

That's a good thing to know. The manager at the store near where I live says she still hasn't received the closing date, so looking out for displays marked up with price is a good way to gauge the store closing date.
 
The one in Newport Mall have no games.Sam Goody is still a rip off they price each Seinfield Season $50 even with 40% it still not that great and they charge $110 for the gift set.I wait for a larger discount.I'm surprised several people were still buy this stuff just because some consumer can't resits the word "sale".I bet someone is eying that porn section.There is still two giant rack left :roll:
 
Agreed about the Seinfeld sets. When Best Buy had Season 6 for $24.99 and then buy 1 get 1 free on top of that it worked out to $12.50 a set. Sam Goody would have to go to 75% off just to match that price.
 
Well, I decided to swing by one of my 2 local Sam Goody's today - the one in the "Mall That Time Forgot". The mall itself is about to close, it's basically a ghost town now and very few people even go there anymore.

Anyway, I think I did OK. The store was doing "40-50% Off", which meant 40% off all games, dvd's, cd's, etc. and 50% off a few odds & ends. I picked up 3 PS2 games:

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 - $18
Viewtiful Joe - $12
Karaoke Revolution Party - $36

I felt better about the Karaoke Revolution pack when I thought it came w/ the eyetoy, but once I got out in the parking lot with it I saw that it just comes with ANOTHER mic. What's that make, 5 or 6 I've had now? Oh well, it will make the wife happy and that's still not a bad price from what I've seen.

Also snagged a guide for a friend's upcoming b-day - Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance. A rare guide indeed, and it only rang up for .98! They had a few others that were kinda tempting, but I've spent too much lately. I came close to picking up a non-GH copy of Red Dead Revolver, but the disk was scratched up so I passed.

They also had a few PS2 demos stuck in w/ the display unit that I wanted (I saw the demo for the original Sly Cooper, and there were others stacked behind it), but when I asked about them the guy working there (manager maybe?) said they would not sell them seperately. They went w/ the unit (wall fixture containing the demo ps2 & a tv) for $300. Personally, $300 for a wall unit that was damaged, a PS2 that's most likely worn out and a crappy very small TV doesn't sound like much of a deal.

EDIT: Well, I just opened the Karaoke Rev. Party box, and it's an actual mic instead of a headset. So at least it's something I didn't already have - that's SOMETHING. :p

My local Sam Goody looks like it's about ready to die out within the week. The deals stopped at 30%, the back of the store has been cleared out, everything under the system cases has been removed, and half of the anime section has been removed since yesterday.

What a shame, honestly, because they still have around 95% of their store left to go. Nobody is biting on the 30% off clearance and the 40% off 4 CDs or DVDs isn't thrilling anyone either. In the end, I think this Sam Goody is just going to lose out.

That's just my opinion. Honestly, I won't touch the anime until it's 50% off, I wouldn't think of grabbing any of the remaining games unless they hit at least 50% off, and the peripherals are so overpriced it would take 70% off to get them to a reasonable level.
 
Same here, the Suncoast in Southpark Mall, Strongsville still running that shitty 30% off, or 40% off if you buy 4+ items. Some good items left, but the back
of the store is missing, literally.
 
Yep, mine is 40% off too (Manchester, CT). It's absolutely terrible though. They have a lot of games left, but there was no way I could bring myself to buy anything after coming from Circuit City and picking up all those $2-3 games. I did grab some of the e-Reader cards (Golf (x3 because it was a dollar), Donkey Kong 3, Tennis and Clu Clu Land), they had a bunch of DK3 and Tennis left
 
I about picked up Soul Calibur 3 and Kirby Canvas Curse today for 40% off each, but decided that by the time I actually got to SC3 it will prob be a greatest hits title and I can get it for even less then the $30 it would have been after 40% and that I didn't want Kirby quite enough to pay $21 for it. If it drops below $20, I'll pick it up.
 
I was in my other local mall today & decided to swing by that SG again & see what they had left. This is a much more highly trafficed mall, so I suppose that's why they hadn't matched the other store's discounts - their signs said 30-50% off. All cd's & dvd's were still 30% off, which is a complete rip-off ($19.99 cds 30% off = $12, which is what they cost normally most anywhere else). But their games were 40% off.

Here's where things get weird. I really understand now why this company is going out of business - not just because they were always overpriced, but because they were apparently run by a bunch of monkeys. When I was flipping through the games at the other store on Friday, I saw several that were sticker priced higher than they've been retailing for everywhere else. Games that have been Greatest Hits for a while, for example, still marked full price. "That's just Sam Goody," I figured, "they've always been overpriced." Well, as I was looking through the games in the other store today, I noticed that some that were still original price in the other store were marked down to GH price here. And vice-versa, some that were marked down in the other store WEREN'T here.

For example, I was looking at Sly 2 on Friday thinking "That would be a good pickup for $12, esp. since it's not the GH packaging, but it's still marked $40." Today I'm flipping through and there it was, marked $20. As I mentioned before, I almost got Red Dead Revolver at the other store where it would have been $12, but it was scratched up. Here, it's still stickered for $50.

They can't even coordinate prices between 2 stores in the same town. :whistle2:|
 
LOL Argyle, that sounds like the EB Games stores in my area. They were like that for a WHILE, back in the 16 bit era and in part of the 32 bit era.

Honestly, you could've bought a game for $20 for Genesis at one store, go about 20 miles down the road and it was priced for $50.

I may take a trek up to the only SG by me(60 miles away) in a couple days, see if they're selling the display PS2 yet. I snickered at the price they mentioned in passing for the PS2($100). I laugh, because there is no way in HELL I would buy a display PS2 for that much. I'd buy it for MAYBE $40, but anything over that is ridiculous.

And, in my opinion, it would have to come with whatever was with it in the case. That is, if there's 2 controllers with it, I'd want them. No matter how crap the condition they were in.

I wonder if the SG I went to has the PSones with LCD screen for a paltry $149 still. LOL Even at 50% off, thats about 16 dollars OVER what Kmart wants for the combo.

Anyway, I hope the SG locally is going up on the % off soon, so I can try and grab some CDs maybe. If not, I'll just go to my local Boscov's, where they're also liquidating their games/cd/movie sections.

Each store is different, but many (including mine) have dropped games to 40%. Game accessories are also 40%. The Buy 4 Get 40% Off has always applied only to CDs and DVDs, not games.
 
I went to the one in Pasadena over the weekend, and there was good game selection but crappy prices. Be careful. Gun for PS2 isn't a deal at 40% off $49.99, when you can get it for $20 elsewhere.
