Hopefully Grinsia will have a demo.  I love old-school, and I love the style, graphically and generally gameplay-wise, I think.  But are they decent games in their own right, or are they just subpar knock-offs of old-school stuff?  That is the question...  I guess I could try one of them that I have on my iPhone, but I found too late in life that I hate playing games on my phone.

If I could find a bunch of old-school style games that are genuinely good, I'd be totally thrilled!  I don't know if I like RPG Maker sorts of stuff, though.  It just feels like a weird imitation, like instead of the girl you had a crush on in 8th grade, it's a 30 year-old with braces dressed up like an 8th grader (WHOA I should really come up with a different metaphor, cause that is pretty gross and borderline pedophilic)

I actually enjoy Kemco's old school style. Do they all feel the same? Sure. But I still love them. Symphony of Eternity was good all the way through. If you don't like their style of JRPG then they probably don't have anything for you. But I do like Kemco's games. They are kind of like RPG Maker Games that I can play on mobile platforms.
The games are highly unbalanced towards the player. I've played through 3 of the kemco games on my android tablet. They are interesting enough for the length (roughly 10-15 hours each if you grind). The 3 I played (eve of the genesis, symphony of eternity, and Aeon Avenger) are borderline laughable difficulty on the default setting. I don't remember if it even had a difficulty setting, but at any rate, there was not much challenge to it other than finding all the equipment and grinding to max levels.

Anyone slightly pissed that Europe get a early discount on the season pass for Mario Golf till the end of May and US gets no discount on it.  Well at least it fairly cheap at $14.99 which I think is probably worth it for the 3 characters and 6 new 18-hole golf courses.

To be fair they're also paying over $20 USD for it at full price and even on sale it's currently over $16.50 with the Euro pricing. In GBP it converts to $2 more on both prices.

I would also rather they put the eShop cards on sale again for 20% off then discount the season pass by 20%.

Yeah it's funny, once again I thought I'd be content with my eShop balance but I could use some more discounted credit after a few GBA VC purchases.

Wouldn't mind another 20% sale.

Well, I finished the first Denpa Men game yesterday. After you defeat the final boss, credits roll, and three more additional dungeons open up. But yeah, I'm done. I enjoyed the premise. It was neat to visit different wi-fi locations to pick up new Denpa Men. Although the game kind of became a chore and some of the dungeons seemed unnecessarily large, it was still a fun game I would recommend.

The first game has the Denpa Men fighting by, like, head-bashing the enemy. I hear the second game adds equipment they can use, which sounds pretty cool.

Game took around 17-18 hours for me to beat. I think I read somewhere that if you do the last three dungeons, it makes the game around 25 hours.

Is the 3DS ever going to officially support SD cards bigger than 32GB?  My 32GB is full.  I experimented before with trying to get a 64GB card into the correct format, but then I read about people losing data and stuff, and I thought to myself, "Why bother?  I'll never fill up 32GB anyway."  But, lo and behold... mostly due to Bravely Default being full of poorly-acted dialogue in several languages...

It could since the hardware is obviously capable of reading them and it's likely just down to a firmware update. Anytime soon probably isn't likely with the way Nintendo moves on that sort of stuff.

Wow this poor thread was buried three or four pages deep.

Lost in all the Mario Kart 8 hype today is the real news...

POKEMON ART ACADEMY!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S8ORG7HCdk

i hope the demo for Denpa Men 3 tomorrow is sort of long. Need something to tie me over until my mario golf  game gets here monday. Hate to start a new rpg game  and then have to leave it for mario golf

reminder tonight is the last night to pick which pokemon game you want to download from the Nintendo promotion last month. After tonight you wont be able to pick no more.

I'm finally ramping through and trying to finish all of the Ace Attorney games. Should I even expect a Dual Destinies sale? Or is that more than likely stuck?

Ever since i bought $100 in eShop points from BestBuy, there have not been any good sales... well played Nintendo, well played.
See, I got lucky, and bought the $100 eShop points on 20% sale right before the big holiday sales they ran. I burnt through my credit in less than a month.

You'll probably have to hold out for holiday 2014 sales. And tbh, some of the stuff on sale this week is supposed to be good at least (SpeedX, Tappingo).

I don't get the issues with good games going on sale compared to the same crap going on sale over and over again. The Wii U's eShop is even worse since there are plenty of weeks where nothing goes on sale. Nothing.

I don't have an issue with repeat sales (aside from maybe Witch & Hero), it's just that it's always Atlus that does these repeats. And their library isn't that large on the 3DS, so it's always the same stuff. MH3U has been $20 twice already and I wouldn't mind it going on sale again.

On top of that, I feel like these constant sales from them are more them avoiding a price drop than actual sales. SMTIV was $50 at retail for the Collector's Edition, which had physical items out the ass, there's absolutely no reason why the MSRP on the eShop version without those goodies should be $50.

And yeah, the Wii U has worse sales, but why does that mean I have to settle for the same publisher running repeat sales over and over and over?

I mean maybe if they alternated with another publisher like Capcom or Sega, it wouldn't be so annoying. Some sales are better than no sales, but it's still frustrating that Atlus seems to be the only people who can put together a sale.

I think the only other publisher to really run an eShop sale is Ubisoft.

Atlus is not the only publisher on the 3DS eShop that has repeat sales. The publishers of games like Gardenscapes, Secret Agent Files: Miami, 3D MahJongg, and all those sorts of games that nobody here talks about getting constantly go on sale, which I can't imagine happens if games of consequence went on sale with some sort of regularity. The fake permanent price drops are even worse than a game going on sale once a month. I'd happily take Atlus stuff going on sale every month or so than nothing.

SMT IV is $49.99 for the base version at retail. Their limited launch editions shouldn't have an effect on the digital versions. At least they're willing to offer the same discounts for physical and digital versions unlike everybody else that does just retail with worse deals on the rare occasions they have digital sales.

I pointed out the Wii U eShop sales because they're sort of in the same realm where nobody of consequence wants to put their stuff on sale outside of the same few pubs/devs that are at least proactive on that front, so I don't get the vilification of Atlus here rather than the other publishers that do nothing at all.

Oh, I wasn't vilifying Atlus (other than for the eShop price of SMTIV being $50, and the lack of them just adopting permanent price drops), but rather Nintendo for not working harder to get sales on other 3DS eShop titles. And I meant a major publisher, but I should have specified. These smaller pubs do repeat a lot of sales, but I think most of us look see it in terms of individual titles having repeated sales as opposed to recognizing that these games share a publisher (I mean how many people know that Gardenscapes and Secret Agent Miami have the same publisher?).

Probably just me since I see the exact same groups of games going on sale at the same time with the same expiration date

Picross e4! Best game we'll get until Pokemon Art Academy comes out!
I know this is probably just trolling, but the Picross e titles are fantastic Picross games with 100 or so puzzles for a good price. I'm not a fan of the weird spin-off mode that they added to e3 or e4 though.

all of the time.

I love the games that Nintendo produces, but their approach to digital distribution is utterly baffling at times. It is almost as if the digital storefronts they have created were made in a vacuum that did not acknowledge Valve's Steam, Microsoft's Xbox Live, or Sony's PlayStation Network. Which is not to say that all their promotions are bad, sometimes they are fantastic; the $30 eShop credit for purchasing either physical or digital versions of Fire Emblem: Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei IV being a great example. The upcoming promotion where all copies of Mario Kart 8 registered before July 31st, 2015 on Club Nintendo will get a free digital Wii U game is also wonderful.

However, Nintendo is woefully inconsistent about offering these deals and promotions. Every once in a while, we may see a discount on a Nintendo developed eShop game or Virtual Console title, but there is no discernible pattern as far as I can tell. I just don't get why it is so hard for them to look at their competitors, read the articles on Gamasutra about how Steam Limited-Time Sales impact overall sales well beyond the promotion dates, then do similar marketing and sales themselves. When it comes to creating unique and innovative experiences that no other company offers, I appreciate that Nintendo goes their own way. When it comes to meeting the consumer halfway and giving them what they want in terms of consumer friendly practices (Cross-Buy, Weekly Sales, Digital Rights Management, etc.), their obstinance in doing business things purely on their own terms is not an asset.

Probably just me since I see the exact same groups of games going on sale at the same time with the same expiration date

I know this is probably just trolling, but the Picross e titles are fantastic Picross games with 100 or so puzzles for a good price. I'm not a fan of the weird spin-off mode that they added to e3 or e4 though.
all of the time.
Nope, I was serious. Love Picross and I'm nearly done with 3D so thought that sounded like a fair price. Though nothing will likely ever touch the value I've gotten out of 3D for the $2 it cost me.

Did you download the extra puzzles from the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection? Those will provide an additional bang to your well spent two bucks. :D

The lack of modern wifi security compatibilty for DS means I've never been able to use any online features that DS games have had, which is a shame for the few that had good content like Professor Layton and Picross.

Have you tried doing it on your 3DS as well? I was able to snag the DLC for the Professor Layton games, Picross 3D, Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies using my 3DS XL. Then again, I did connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection at a Wi-Fi Hotspot (one with a portal you need to click before normal internet browsing - just pull up the 3DS Internet Browser, click the button, and then it should do normal internet operations). You may try going to a McDonald's, Panera, the local library, or any place you can get Wi-Fi at, FriskyTanuki.

You do a lot of good things on the PSN thread and this one, so I definitely would like you to get the most out of your games if possible. :)

DS games still use the same security even when they're played on 3DS, so it doesn't change anything. I've long since beaten and sold those games anyway.
