So on the fence for shovel knight. On one hand, heard nothing but praise for it. On the other, totally addicted to fantasy life, and haven't even touched the Level 5 games I picked up, much less the other cartridge games I have...

Probably going to try and hold out, and pick it up on the next sale (which I hope isn't too rare), but gods knows there's a good chance I'll just cave and pick it up this week.

Want to play Shovel Knight but think I'll hold off for the Vita version. Comparing Mutant Mudds on 3DS and Vita I realized how bad the 3DS' display is. It's not even the resolution, the color/vibrance of the Vita OLED just made it pop way more visually. Thinking it'll be the same case with Shovel.

I was actually just gonna come in here to remind people that Shovel Knight is coming to Sony platforms soon.

Just so long as you do yourself the favor of buying it eventually... I have it on my Wii U but I'll be rebuying as soon as it hits on PS4.

I'm glad that I got Shovel Knight on 3DS instead of Wii U.  Feels just perfect on it and I don't think it would have been as tight feeling on the softer buttons on the Wii U.  So good.

Right now patience. Sounds like they're doing a month long featured sale so maybe we'll get lucky and get more stuff that hasn't been on sale yet.
I think it's back up to $15 but Azure Striker Gunvolt was worth $10. I agree, be patient and see what else goes on sale in the coming weeks.

I might just wait for the inevitable Instant Game Collection release like I did with DuckTales.

I'm a sucker for 3D so getting the 3DS version was an easy decision.

I have been waiting for Shovel Knight to go on sale for a while and I finally took the plunge.  I picked up the 3DS version.  Seems like the perfect type of game to play on the go.

Picked up Woah Dave! and Shovel Knight the other night.

Started playing Woah Dave!... Can't recommend it more!

Looking forward to Shovel Knight!

Bring on the sales!

Woah Dave! is surprisingly fun, but I wouldn't buy it for the regular price of $4.99. Definitely wait for a sale to about $1.99 or $0.99 (which is what I paid for it).

I got Retro City Rampage DX, since today's apparently the last day it's on sale.

Also got VVVVVV even though I have it on PC because that's how much I enjoyed it. And the soundtrack!

Now the question is whether I can figure out how to connect my 3DS to my phone hotspot before Shovel Knight is no longer on sale. Waiting till the last minute at least made the platform decision for me.

I think Woah Dave is now free with PS+, if you have a Vita.

are the RE's still on sale? (cant see at work)

So Pirate's Curse gets a discount, but Risky's Revenge doesn't? I guess it never will.
Well, you can buy risky's revenge on steam. It was on sale for $5 during winter sale. It might even go $2.50 by summer sale. Also on Humble bundle for $6 teir. But I get ya. I would want them all on the 3ds too.

Risky's Revenge is also better on Steam. They fixed the warp system to be more convinient and added a bonus hard mode when you finish.

As for Pirate's Curse....it's probably my favorite game of last year. But I /love/ everything about the series, so...

I was kinda hoping for a bit more than 25% off of Pirate's Curse, WayForward, but considering how often you've put Risky's Revenge on sale, I guess I'll take what I can get.

Bleh. There any sales on eShop credit right now? I've only got a balance of $8.36 after the Level 5 sale.

Yeesh, I know this is Cheap Ass Gamer, and trust me, I am darn cheap, but I also know quality.  The Shantae games are the likes of which do not come very often anymore and are well worth their asking prices.  The 3DS one is my favorite of any of the releases.

I disagree. Shantae has been a mediocre series from day one. It has always been great at graphics and music and utterly awful at providing anything remotely interesting platforming-wise. Pirate's Curse is their best game but it's still worse than the average indie metroidvania in everything except the graphics.

I'm not saying it's the best metroidvania ever here (far from it), but, if we can be serious for a moment here...

Does it physically hurt to be that wrong?

I wouldn't know. I haven't been that wrong in years.

Wait, are these actually Metroidvania games? I thought they were just platformers.
It's a Metroidvania but the worlds tend to be segmented out pretty cleanly. At least in Pirate's Curse, the only backtracking you do is to collect crap you couldn't without a new ability or after being turned out of the new world until you go collect a few plot advancement items from previous worlds. So technically, yes, it's a metroidvania with upgrades to collect and a connected world you can go back and forth through, but there's no real exploration. The way forward is always either forward or back to get the story item. So it's light on the metroid half of the metroidvania.

I have a lot of complaints about the game but that isn't one of them. That's merely a description of the structure. That's not unlike most Metroidvanias.

While the original has some issues with controls and forced blind jumps (though is perhaps the most Metroidvania of the three), the other two have EXTREMELY fluid gameplay -- on a level very few games have. Yes they are lighter on exploration than Metroid, but the overall pakage still creates a very fun time.

Hmm, well that still makes me a lot more interested.
I describe the game as is. I can not do battle with the truth. It is undeniably the best Shantae game though I lament the fact that we only ever got one clunky boss fight with Risky Boots in Shantae 1 and have not got a chance to 1v1 her again.

I should mention each world culminates in a dungeon that is Zelda-esque in nature, but modern Zelda so they are all without any puzzles whatsoever and generally linear in spirit if not in practice. (As in, dead ends will be key doors or dungeon ability required rooms.)

I do not understand this. I don't find it that much more fluid than other platformers. Of course, I played on WiiU where it is unfortunately by definition the worst platformer on the system just because it had the misfortune of stumbling onto probably the best platformer system since the SNES so maybe I am comparing it to games that are too far above the average, but "very few games" suggests they shouldn't all be on one system.

In fact, though, my specific problem with it dates back to Shantae 1 and applies equally to RR and PC. The pacing is stop-and-go. The enemies are all boring as heck but you can't really get by them without stopping to hit them with your hair a half dozen times. There isn't an inkling of cleverness to their placements and all they do with any skill is just get in your way so you are constantly stopping to beat them down. And it isn't like Castlevania where the same thing happens but the combat is actually kinda fun because each monster has their own quirk and trick and they all threaten your space in different ways. Here they are just meat tanks that just pop up to irritate you. Not to mention that snoozefest Run Rottytops Run segment where the one thing you CANNOT do is run because of all the red light green light enemies only there the combat is completely removed.

The platforming just feels completely generic without ever trying to challenge you, too, so the enemies don't even have anything cool in the environment to interact with anyway.

To be fair, the first level was actually good fun. Saliva Island's jungle climb actually gave me some hope but the game let me down beyond that.

I have played this series since the start and seen it lavished with so much hyperbolic praise that it doesn't even come close to deserving and I do not understand it. It doesn't help that Shovel Knight just fricken embarrasses Shantae and costs 5 dollars less.

...I literally bought one from there on Sunday. Haven't even redeemed it yet.

I don't suppose there's any chance of them price matching the receipt?
That's a really good question, not sure because it's a prepaid card. I would at least try if it's worth your time to go there.

Tempting as an extra 10% off Shantae is (and though I'm showing my #FakeCAGness here), I really didn't feel like driving out fifteen minutes and back just to see if I could save $2.

It just pisses me off is all. D:

Need to decide what size card to buy. I know I want Shantae but not sure if I should get some more. When Shovel Knight went on sale they made it sound like it was part of an ongoing sale that was for like eShop hits or something that was supposed to go the entire month. Then nothing happened with it this week. Unless Shantae got delayed to be the game this week? Who knows. Don't really buy anything from the eShop that's not on sale so don't need a huge pile of it but if there are more sales the next couple weeks or something else crops up I don't want to have nothing.

Yeah, unless you were going there anyway I wouldn't have for $2.

Hm... to buy some eshop credit now, or wait for a potentially bigger sale in the near future?

Whatev. I got some spare scratch. And it's never a bad idea to save on something if you know you're gonna shop there later.

I know we had those two 20% off sales but that was a while ago. Was that like a year ago even? It's been a long time. I think all the others have been 10-15% off. Nice that we're getting discounts on a semi-regular basis at least I suppose.

I'm still trying to decide how much to get here at the last minute (under 20 minutes left as of writing this). Thinking at least $20 so then I'll still have around $10 in my account if anything else pops up but I'm not sure if I should go up to $35.

I couldn't decide until two minutes left so I panicked and bought $50. :wall:

At least I had a $20 cert to use so it was about the same out of pocket.  Now we won't have any worthwhile sales for another six months.

Welp, it was decided for me. I was trying to order ever since my last post, but my damn browser kept screwing up right up until the sale was over.

I hate Dolphin so damn much.
