Thanks, Tanuki.  Streets of Rage should be "3D Streets of Rage" in the list (in case anyone is looking for a Sega 3D classics grouping in the main post).

I am totally snagging Galaxy Force II, Super Hang-On, and Shinobi III to round out the rest of my Sega 3D games.  Super Thunderblade would have been great, too, but I think that was the most recent release anyway.

Are any G.G series games worth picking up for $1.99?

If I buy an eshop card from bestbuy on ebay, they won't just email me the code right? I need some eshop bux soon and I don't wanna go all the way to bestbuy or gamestop. What about amazon? Do they send the code immediately?
Why wouldn't you just use a credit card to buy stuff directly from the e-shop?

Yeah, unless you want those cool AR card eShop cards (Mario, Princess Peach, Goomba) there's no reason to not just add funds directly to the eShop during the purchase phase. You can even add funds before making a purchase.

Likewise, going to pick up several. I would get Thunder Blade as well - but let's face it, it is a pretty terrible game. I loved the old Sega games but Thunder Blade just didn't control well (realistic I guess, but not great for a shooter) - they really needed to skip the overhead parts of the stages.

I personally would have loved After Burner or Out Run to be included.

The Sega 3D Classics are easily among the best games available for the 3DS. The 3D effects that M2 added are absolutely amazing. They're a great deal at their regular price of $6 and an absolute steal at $3.

... well, probably expect Altered Beast that is. ;)

Oh yeah, After Burner and Out Run would have been neat additions.  I bought Out Run when it first came out on the eShop and finally loved that game.  I was never into that game but now it "clicked" with me.  Just lovely, and the addition of car upgrades and 3D was what sold me the most.

Too bad the Fantasy Zone games are also not included, but what's on sale is generally good stuff.

Agreed. M2 truly schooled Nintendo when it came to emulating these retro games. The options within each are often staggering and reflect the team's knowledge of the games' history and lineage. Granted, some of the options are based on arcade things like screen tilting, etc., but even so it's great that they included viable tweaks for players to enjoy.

Altered Beast... yeah, I loved the arcade and home versions for what they were but man, they are both unbalanced. The arcade version I get, but I wish Sega pulled a Capcom for the home version and made it something more like Bionic Commando or even Strider on the NES. It's understandable that they wanted to show the Mega Drive's ability to come really close to the arcade experience, so looking through those lenses it makes sense.

Still, that game ticks me off when I miss a white wolf or the orb from it :\

That's not a bad price for this one. I bought it when it first released, and there were a lot of QR codes you could scan for new levels I think. Not sure if that's still going on, but it's a neat feature.

It definitely has a Solomon's Key vibe to it. I remember some of the challenges and control bothering me a bit when I first bought it.

Well. This is exactly what I asked for just a couple days ago, though I really wish it had happened after Gunstar Heroes had made it to the NA eShop.

Oh, well. I guess I'll wait another year or so for the next Sega 3D sale to get that one.

Picked up Devil Survivor Overclocked. I was hoping for a $15 price but but in the $20 as I wanted something new to play on the 3ds.

Gunstar Heroes deserves a full price splurge. I cannot wait for that one. What would be great is if they also ported the fun GBA sequel to the Virtual Console.

SMT4 for $20? Wasn't it $15 last time? Atlus pls. I keep getting turned on to more Atlus games after how good EO4 was...

I loved Outrun Coast 2 Coast. Absolutely ecstatic I got it on Steam before the purge. But I can't figure out 3D Outrun. The drift mechanics seem so different. C2C at least proved to me that you can't just put a car on a curvy road and call it Outrun. That drift game was a work of art.

I buy cards and not key my CC info into the 3DS because I don't want the digital purchase system to have my CC info for reasons.

3D Streets of Rage is Streets of Rage 1 which is still good but... after SoR2 and especially SoRR it is a tough pill to swallow. If you have any love for SoR you probably have played Remake at least once and it manages to render all three of the original games obsolete. It's just that good.

Of course that's PC only,..

Misread Galaxy Force II as Shining Force II. Balls! Ha ha.
Yeah, man. I want to play Shining Force II so bad. I have it on Steam, and was it on the PS3 Sega Collection disc, or was that just the first one? Anyway, I really want to play Shining Force II. It's been forever! It never gets any love.

Apparently a fan remake? I hadn't heard of it. For a second I thought of that PS2 version of Final Fight they did where they tried to turn it into Yakuza and failed.

Did they really do that great a job with the 3D effects?  I assumed it would just amount to Sonic popping out of the screen a little or something.  Might have to pick a couple of these up if the 3D implementations are really that well done.. though it's still a hard bargain when the Genesis collection on Vita is on sale for $4 this same week.  Hmmm.

I haven't played any of them but the studio that has been doing these is supposedly putting a ton of effort into them and really doing them right instead of just making quick cash ins.

I loved the 3D versions of Space Harrier and After Burner, they are totally worth the $. Looking forward to seeing how Shinobi is in 3D, not expecting them to be as amazing as the previous 2 I mentioned but for that price, I can swing it.

Wish Outrun was on there and some other obscure Game Gear games were on sale too. Thanks Frisky!

Yeah, these games are 3D classics done right. Nintendo's sorry asses should be taking notes. They have way more resources and funds than SEGA could ever hope to have, and they spend time making "Urban Champion 3D". WTF!? No Punch out 3D, or SNES Star Fox would rock as well, but we get Excite Bike, and other crap NES titles, what a waste.

Then "N" tells us how the 3D games didn't sale well enough, and they are stopping production of further titles. Yeah, sales sucked because you put forth little to no effort, damn, what ass clowns "N" have become. SO many great games and titles just sitting around being wasted. END RANT!

Do some internet searches for the SEGA titles, and you will see some long interviews with their teams and what they do for each of these titles, it really is something to see, I've bought several of these titles full price, and I just bought the rest on sale. Not because I'm that in to each and every title, but to say "THANK YOU" for putting forth the effort to update some classics title properly, and more on the way.

IMO the best use of the 3D effect on the 3DS has always been when it's applied to sprite artwork. It just seems to pop off the screen more crisply than it does with polygons. It's probably because these older games where designed with layering in mind with your character on a distinct plane seperate from the background layer.

There's no arguing that the Vita collection isn't a great deal, too; but the 3DS ports have a bit more care put into them and the 3D is worth the extra cost. You should def pick up at least one on the 3DS to judge for yourself in addition to picking up the Vita collection.

Double everything this dude says. Amazing stuff.

Why wouldn't you just use a credit card to buy stuff directly from the e-shop?
A few reasons.

1. I was buying it for my sister's 3DS, not mine.

2. I had an old ebay gift card that I wanted to use up.

3. I have my zip code set as another state to avoid tax on my 3ds. Not sure if using my card will tip them off and start charging me tax again. Anyone know if it would cause problems?

Attack on Titan will be 25% off on June 30th

Just to speak more specifically to Sonic since that's the one you're interested in and I just picked it up myself, yes the 3D looks sweet in it, but that's not all they did with it. The team that made this actually put some work into it. You have a legitimate save file now, button mapping, the option to switch between the NA and JP releases...more than worth the $3, even compared against the Sony sale.

Oh, and they added in the spindash.

Here, let me make it clear quickly:

For 3D Outrun, the game designers recorded the sounds of the physical components from the arcade cabinet. The sound the wheel makes when it hits the limit, the thunk of the gear shift. They put those sounds in the game as an option to simulate playing Outrun in arcade, as well as at least one video filter to make it look like the arcade screen.

These guys are NUTS. Absolutely nuts. They put more effort into this crap than Nintendo put into MAKING URBAN CHAMPION THE FIRST TIME.

I told you these guys toil it seriously. I think there's a number of postmortems out there about their work on them as well.

There are two screen modes for Sonic (and I assume most of the Genesis ports): Normal and Classic. In Normal screen mode, the 3D acts to separate the parallax layers, so things in the distance look farther away, things in the foreground are closer, and things like the score and other UI sort of float on top of that. It's a great effect, especially with the cleaned up sprites--it makes everything just sort of pop visually.

In Classic mode, the screen is a bit blurrier and curved, to simulate a CRT television screen--things on the side become a little distorted because of the screen curvature, as you'd expect on an actual CRT. In that mode, instead of layering, the 3D instead acts to make the screen appear to be bulging out towards you, like a curved CRT screen would.

Other options that you can play with--and this is just in Sonic, though there are probably similar ones in the other Genesis ports--include the ability to turn spin dash on and off, the ability to remap your controls to virtually any configuration allowable by the face and shoulder buttons on the 3DS, the ability to enter the debug mode with the press of a button, the ability to switch between the Japanese and International versions of the game, and the ability to switch between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 sound emulation--the Genesis 1 had clearer sound, though the Genesis 2 had a stronger bass.

I've played the original Sonic on a Genesis 2, on a Sega Nomad, on an Xbox 360, and on at least three different PC emulators (including one that had some pretty nifty options), and I can say without a doubt that this is the best I've ever seen it. About the only thing I could have hoped for that they didn't include would to have been to make a Sonic & Knuckles lock-on mode, so you could play Blue Sphere.

That's not a very big sale on Attack on Titan; 7 meter class at best.
It's the eShop, it's never a very big sale.

The Attack on Titan game isn't very good, but probably won't go under $30 for awhile either. It's only worth picking up at $10 or less and that is only if you are curious.
