THE GIST:
87 TRU's are closing
Current sale at (will drop to bigger discounts):

10-30% off all consoles
20-50% off all games
20-50% off all guides
40-50% off all accessories

*All discount amounts YMMV. Check the list below for a possible update on where each store is at.
*All items bought cannot be returned or exchanged anywhere (the barcodes will be crossed out with a marker).
*Further discounts should happen every 1, 2 weeks. It seemed at first it would be a YMMV on when, but it seems all stores are dropping prices at the same time.
*Stores will probably close sometime around Feb. 27th, give or take a couple weeks. Really just depends on how much merch is still moving when that time comes.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the store/sale list!

1/7 3AM EDIT: I am going to my TRU tomorrow to shop, as I bet many of the rest of you will too. Post what deals and stores you find and hopefully we can compile something worthwhile here. ^_^

1/7 1PM EDIT: Trying to compile what stores we have confirmed are closing; also adding what seems to be the current sale. Since each store is bought by local liqudators, your discounts may be different and drop slower/faster, so YMMV on the discounts, for better or for worse.

1/8 11PM EDIT: Looks like we are looking at about two weeks for the next drop, which should be to 20% - 40%. The time of the drop and the amount is up to each liqudator, so YMMV when it comes to it. But two weeks should be about right for all the stores. Store list updated, along with return policy. Forgot to ask about exchanges though, doh. >_<

1/11 2:30PM EDIT: Changed closed store total from 72 to 87, 12 of which are being turned into Babys R Us. Closing store list also updated.

1/13 3:30AM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added a note below about "fixture" sale information (which probably varies per store on how they go about selling the stuff off).

1/13 11:45PM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added news on possible console discounts.

1/16 3PM EDIT: Looks like Reality's Fringe was right on a nation-wide clearance increase, so thanks to him for the head's up!

1/16 11PM EDIT: Complete closing store list added!

2/9 7:30PM EDIT: Updated %s

I walked into work today for my paycheck and to price adjust some games, and one of the managers took me aside, gave me some paperwork and told me our TRU (Bellingham, WA) along with 72 others are being closed, effective tomorrow. Well, at least my store tomorrow, but I assume everyone else is in the same boat. The earliest they will actually close their doors is Feburary 27th, so there will be plenty of time to take advantage of the sale.

According to the manager, everything will be clearanced for the closing sale starting tomorrow, and only a few things will not be part of that, being video game hardware. I asked about games and she said she didn't know. I don't know exactly what the clearance is going to start at, but I would say 30% (what the GT sale usually starts at) would be a good guess.

If you bought anything from a closing TRU before today and you want to return, exchange, price adjust, whatever, you can still do so. But: everything bought from here on out CANNOT be returned. If they are like my store, they take a big black marker and cross out the UPC. They do this so you cannot return it to another TRU. I didn't get the whole speech, so exchanges may be okay, but no more returns, no more price adjustments.

Also: all TRU coupons, sales, price drops, whatever are no longer valid at the closing stores, since they are not really TRUs anymore.

If not already, you should be seeing soon some sort of poster, fill-out form, whatever in your TRU about selling the fixtures, etc. This includes video game display posters, standees, the playable game set-ups, etc. At my store, it was a cardboard kisok thing with a form you filled out with your contact info and what you want, and they'll contact you with a price. Don't know what things will go for, but you may or may not be able to score some cool stuff.
you can use an old live card on an XBOX 360
But not the other way around. I had to ask MS Customer Service about that one. :)
Hey first message here on CAG...Thought I'd finally give something back to the community.

For all you Los Angeles area CAGs there is roughly 40-50 copies of Baten Kaitos with soundtrack available at the Signal Hill (Long Beach) location. Each copy is greentagged at $9.99 with the additional 20% off. Nothing else worth getting excited over though.
GOD. DAMN. If anyone could pick me up a copy from there and hook me up at cost, please PM me. ^__^

360 STUFF

Im waiting till games are 40 % off before I buy anything really... i bought some market place points for the 360.. planning on buying more later when its like 60-80 % off *crosses fingers* No ones really touched the 360 stuff cept for controllers and a few games... I also got a play an charge kit cause it was the last one.. only for 12 bucks... I kinda got a way for getting a controller but am saving it for the higher disconts.... if there is anything else left for the 360.. xbox live, hard drive, remote controls, etc... will prolly get them on the last week.

DS Stuff

my TRU has so many ds games that I think I can wait till the last few weels during the higher disconts to buy games. I been wanting america sk8 land for some time and they have TONS... so i bet i can get that at a nice price...

also on the list for ds... Mario & Luigi, Mario 64, Sonic rush, meteos, kirby, nintendogs(also tons) and Castlevania.. and prolly any left over ones if it goets to 60 % or higher.
Toys R Us in Akron, Ohio near Rolling Acres Mall is closing.
Do they have anything close to decent left? I don't want to go all the way to Akron if they just have tons of really bad games.

if anyone can score a Wireless XBox 360 controller for me that would be sweet and obviously I'd pay them back...and some Marketplace points...my TRU is out of everything...I did pick up the last XBox 360 wireless adapter that I sold here on CAG to a fellow CAG'r at cost...so I'd appreciate the help...

Parsippany, NJ store is definitely closing. I don't think they'd hire those guys with the signs that say STORE CLOSING that stand on street corners otherwise.

If anyone else sees any other errors...please PM me.

Picked up Fifa 06 DS today. Just about all of the GBA games have been cleared out at the TRU in Towson, MD. I think I'll wait til the next drop before I pick anything else up though.

I asked previously, but I'm asking again w/ the recent discount markup: If anyone's TRUs still has the 360 wireless adapters please PM me. Don't pick it up yet, but just check to see how many they have left and let me know.

I've got way too much equipment plugged in and I wanna ditch the MS Xbox wireless adapter I'm using right now. Thanks.

While I'm disappointed none of them around me are closing from a certain perspective, I'm glad none of them are closing near me, I'd rather have the store than an ok deal or two.

Hey Cheapy, according to Amazon's store locator, there's no store in Sherman. I didn't try for the other closing stores, maybe they stop showing up?

Okay I guess it just doesn't show on amazon, but I looked up their phone number. They have 30% off accessories, 10% off video games, and close April 1.

When I saw only 20% off games I figured BFD. However they had a $10 bin with XBX Doom3 and Bard's Tale. Net $8 each. Score! (Laurel, MD store)

There were planty of PSPs and XBX360 accessories still there too for anyone interested. I don't have a 360 yet, but I may go back for a PSP when the clearance drops lower (if any are left).

Good luck at your TRU cheapasses!
Hey Cheapy, according to Amazon's store locator, there's no store in Sherman. I didn't try for the other closing stores, maybe they stop showing up?
Yep, they have already removed those stores from the store locator.

And xbob, yes, the games already reduced to $10 are an additional 20% off as well. That is all I would go to the closing down stores for (until 50%).

the store in hampton has 7 days left and everything went %50 - %70 off. (All video game stuff %50). Unfortunately all that is left is abunch of cheap GBA games, Spiderman DS, Gran Turismo 4, Advent rising (xbox) and Geist (GC). Oh and some strategy guides. I nabbed another Taiko Drum Master for $24

Picked up a 360 wireless adapter, memory card, and Xbox 360 Live starter kit, all for 40% off. Not bad but I would rather have the store stay open.

Are games bundled with accessories counted as games or accessories by TRU? I'm wondering what percentage off games like "Donkey Konga with Bongos", "Final Fantasy XI with HDD", and "Taiko Drum Master" are, 20% or 40% off.

Sorry if it's been asked or mentioned before; I couldn't find it and the thread is getting long.

I think it's YMMV. Back during the B2G1F sale just before Christmas, some people said TRU wouldn't sell Mario DDR because it included the controller, and thus was an accessory. Others had no problem (including myself). Others said they'd sell DK with bongos, and others said they didn't.

I know this isn't a great answer but it's the best I've got. Personally I think you'll get in on game discounts most of the time since it includes a game, meaning the lower discount.

But hey, at the least you get *A* discount. :)

To all bay area CAG's, I went to the TRU in hayward (I know I'ts not on the closing list) And saw the PS2 hard drive with FFXI for 49.90. Seen about four in the clearance bin. Is this worth the price.

No.

I asked for the Donkey Konga w/ Bongo, the clerk said they're 20% off. This is in the Emeryville, CA TRU . Also the store still got some 360 accessaries left such as Live subscription cards (1,3,& 12 months), memory cards, face plates, cables, and headsets, all 40% off. I didn't see any controller nor wireless adapter, and no live subscription kit, only the cards. I didn't see any Live points either. PSP accessaries is quite bad, mostly those 3rd party starter kits, 1st party headphone, pouch, and charger. Most toys and DVDs are still only 20% off, bikes are 25% off; all Lego's are sold out.

picked up a 360 wireless controller 40% off and a copy of Geist for 8 bucks.

my store had TONS of controllers and wireless adapters and subscription cards.

will a closing TRU recieve any new video games..i was hoping to get MVP 2006 NCAA baseball, but the 10% savings wouldn't be worth it since TRU overprices their new games by $5 or so

possibly. I know one TRU in Northern California has had their out of business signs up for a couple weeks now, and when I went there they had the new Yu Gi Oh game for GBA, which came out last week I believe. I would say call and check.

The TRU in Lansing Illinois has all it's games at 20% off.

I picked up for PS2.

1. Bards Tale $ 7.98

2. KIller 7 $ 7.98

3. Cold Fear $7.98

4. JAK 3 15.96

5. Sly 2 15.96

6 .Shadow Of The Col $31.99

just an update on the TRU in littleton, CO off wadsworth. Pretty much picked through or the games are just still to much. There were some PS2's, xbox and gamecube systems left. No DS's or PSP's.

They had some 360 accessories left, vga HD cables, component cables, wired controllers, faceplates, and live kits.

My TRU only has the headset and Woody faceplate left.

I went to the TRU in Coral Springs and they said the only thing off right now is 40% on accessories. Nothing on games yet. Wonder why their so slow.

Sad to see the Hampton Va TRU is closing since that is the one I frequented all during my childhood...

As for the Biloxi store, I am not suprised to see closing it as it never opened up after Katrina (it sits only a few blocks from the still demolished Biloxi Beach)...

ther xbox 360 20gb harddrives count as hardware and are only 10% off =(
i tried to buy all 3 and sell them on ebay hehe

how are they gonna convert some of these huge stores into baie r us stores..thats a ton of space to fill....there's so much clothes u can have..maybe they could fill half the store at least

I don't know if it's a norm but I visited a baby-r-us store in a nearby city and it's as huge as a typical TRU.
