THE GIST:
87 TRU's are closing
Current sale at (will drop to bigger discounts):

10-30% off all consoles
20-50% off all games
20-50% off all guides
40-50% off all accessories

*All discount amounts YMMV. Check the list below for a possible update on where each store is at.
*All items bought cannot be returned or exchanged anywhere (the barcodes will be crossed out with a marker).
*Further discounts should happen every 1, 2 weeks. It seemed at first it would be a YMMV on when, but it seems all stores are dropping prices at the same time.
*Stores will probably close sometime around Feb. 27th, give or take a couple weeks. Really just depends on how much merch is still moving when that time comes.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the store/sale list!

1/7 3AM EDIT: I am going to my TRU tomorrow to shop, as I bet many of the rest of you will too. Post what deals and stores you find and hopefully we can compile something worthwhile here. ^_^

1/7 1PM EDIT: Trying to compile what stores we have confirmed are closing; also adding what seems to be the current sale. Since each store is bought by local liqudators, your discounts may be different and drop slower/faster, so YMMV on the discounts, for better or for worse.

1/8 11PM EDIT: Looks like we are looking at about two weeks for the next drop, which should be to 20% - 40%. The time of the drop and the amount is up to each liqudator, so YMMV when it comes to it. But two weeks should be about right for all the stores. Store list updated, along with return policy. Forgot to ask about exchanges though, doh. >_<

1/11 2:30PM EDIT: Changed closed store total from 72 to 87, 12 of which are being turned into Babys R Us. Closing store list also updated.

1/13 3:30AM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added a note below about "fixture" sale information (which probably varies per store on how they go about selling the stuff off).

1/13 11:45PM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added news on possible console discounts.

1/16 3PM EDIT: Looks like Reality's Fringe was right on a nation-wide clearance increase, so thanks to him for the head's up!

1/16 11PM EDIT: Complete closing store list added!

2/9 7:30PM EDIT: Updated %s

I walked into work today for my paycheck and to price adjust some games, and one of the managers took me aside, gave me some paperwork and told me our TRU (Bellingham, WA) along with 72 others are being closed, effective tomorrow. Well, at least my store tomorrow, but I assume everyone else is in the same boat. The earliest they will actually close their doors is Feburary 27th, so there will be plenty of time to take advantage of the sale.

According to the manager, everything will be clearanced for the closing sale starting tomorrow, and only a few things will not be part of that, being video game hardware. I asked about games and she said she didn't know. I don't know exactly what the clearance is going to start at, but I would say 30% (what the GT sale usually starts at) would be a good guess.

If you bought anything from a closing TRU before today and you want to return, exchange, price adjust, whatever, you can still do so. But: everything bought from here on out CANNOT be returned. If they are like my store, they take a big black marker and cross out the UPC. They do this so you cannot return it to another TRU. I didn't get the whole speech, so exchanges may be okay, but no more returns, no more price adjustments.

Also: all TRU coupons, sales, price drops, whatever are no longer valid at the closing stores, since they are not really TRUs anymore.

If not already, you should be seeing soon some sort of poster, fill-out form, whatever in your TRU about selling the fixtures, etc. This includes video game display posters, standees, the playable game set-ups, etc. At my store, it was a cardboard kisok thing with a form you filled out with your contact info and what you want, and they'll contact you with a price. Don't know what things will go for, but you may or may not be able to score some cool stuff.
Midland, MI is 30%-50% right now.

I of course bought stuff the day before it changed.

Hoping to go again in like a week.
Thanks for the heads up. On my way there now.

It's been 30/50 since last Sunday, if I'm not mistaken.

Anyone here know when we'll see 40/60 or 50/70???

Picked up the last copy of Meteos today.

I'm not sure if it's been posted, but the TRU in Daly City, CA (Colma) is now 30/50. I don't know how long it's been 30/50, but I went yesterday (Feb. 4) and those are the discounts now.

Arlington Heights, IL store is currently 30-50% off as of 2/05. Picked up Eyetoy: Antigrav for 25 (50% off) and Baton Kaitos w/soundtrack for 20.00 (30% off).

BTW, this TRU must have at least 100 copies of BK w/sdk. It seems that this location was flushed with lots and lots of ample TRU stock. I believe I saw tons of copies of Donkey Konga 1, 2 and/or Jungle Beat w/bongos, lots of Taiko Drum Masters, THUG 2 for PSP, Polarium for DS up the wazoo for 9.99 before discount, and others. The pickings are getting kinda slim, but there's still deals to be found there.

I went to the Emeryville, CA store yesterday. It was 30%-50% off yesterday.

I didn't buy anything there cause most of the items left at that time were over-priced third party starter-kits. The price of a third party (e.g. Intec) Nintendo DS/PSP/GameCube starter kit with list price $29.99 is too high even after 50% if you consider their relatively poor quality.

SF Bay ARea TRU now 30-50%...game secton is dead....only lousy ps2 and GBA games..tons of dance pads..nothin really good left

Laurel, MD is now 30%-50% also.

Gameboy micros in stock at 30% 0ff ($69). Some slim PS2s also. Most games left are lame junk but I did get the last Marioware twisted for $20. Tons of Intec accessories (now 50%) off still in - dance pads, starter kits and controllers. Many game guides still in. I picked one up and it rang it at $0.01 at checkout.

Bridgeton, MO is now 30%-50% off. Lots of intec accessories left, Game Boy Micros and GC drum games still plentiful also.

The TRU in Tampa is now 30% off games and 50% off accessories.

When I bought "EyeToy AntiGrav" there today, the cashier unsealed the game and cut out the UPC code!!! What the hell?!?!? When I bought stuff there before, all they did was put a marker over the UPC shrinkwrap! Is this the new procedure since the discount is greater and people were just cleaning off the mark on the shrinkwrap?

Is this all TRU closing procedures now or is this TRU just being *****? Be warned if you're buying something there.

for anyone who has been to the Signal Hill store in CA: did you see any good deals on any survival horror or action type games for PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube?

I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know. it's the nearest store to me- it's a little bit out of the way, but I'm willing to drive it if there are some good deals to be had. thanks.

The TRU in Niagara Falls is at 30/50% off now.

There are NO DS games at this store for some reason, which is odd since there were plenty just a week or 2 ago and i do not think this city cleaned every single one of them out that fast.

Also NO XBOX or XBOX360 games left at this location, at least from what i could see

There is still a large case of 50$ games left (reduced of course), its the same case that they use to display the consoles, but you have to get someone to open it if you want to purchase a game out of it, there are lots of games left in the case.

This location DOES HAVE GBA, GAMECUBE and PS2 games left, however its mostly kiddie games other than the Final fantasy dawn of souls for gba, and final fantasy crystal chronicles for gamecube, both which would cost 6.99 after 30% i believe. There are tons of copies of each of the mentioned games.

Also i noticed the DK with bongos rings up at 34.99 regular 50$, they also have DK2 for a higher price, something like 41$ since it originally cost $58.99.

No strategy guides left either at this location.

There are a ton of soccer moms and 3 year olds in there picking over the GBA games so if you want some gba games i suggest heading there soon.

Would anyone be kind of enough to get me an copy of Kinetic w/ Eyetoy, of course willing to pay for cost and shipping. PM me if your willing to help.

I went by the store during my lunch break today to discover that they started 40/60 this morning. The signs were up throughout the store, but the cash register in the electronics department was still ringning up the 30/50 prices so the employee had to manually correct everything.

Got a second (and the last) xbox dance pad (with the 1 inch foam) for $16. They still had a couple of the wireless thin ones.

Also got Donkey Kong Jungle Beat with the Bongos for $35.

Wanted to pick up Psychonauts for the xbox at $17, but they had so many copies (and I feel like I can probably match/beat that price in the future) I decided to gamble and wait and see if they get to 50/70 percent and get it then. (I know it's just a couple of bucks... but I've bought too much already).

Pleny of "current" games at full retail prices that is starting to get attractive.... lots of taito drum masters. Only 3 DK Jungle Beats, but about several Donkey Konga's with the Bongos.

Did she do it after you already paid for your items, or before? Because if they did it before you paid, I just would have walked out on them if they are going to unseal the games, and mangle them.

What sucks is that I was eyeing some games there for 40% or even 50%, but not if they are going to start chopping off UPC's.

Does anyone know if closing TRU's are going by regular markdowns just like normal TRU's? You know, how on Thursdays TRU has their MSRP markdowns... some stuff recently dropped its MSRP at TRU's, but I am unsure if closing TRU's are following this or just keeping everything jacked up.

Wheaton and Laurel, Maryland is 40% to 60%. Laurel didn't have much, but the Wheaton store still has a bunch of good titles and stuff. I just found a 360 HD for $59.99. There were a good amount of PS2 and Xbox titles. Here are a few a can remember at the Wheaton store:

Ultimate Spiderman- $18 Xbox, GC
Hulk UD- $18 Xbox
Call of Duty 2- $30 PS2
Oddworld: Strangers Wrath- $18 Xbox
Jade Empire LE- $12 Xbox
Battlefield 2- $24 Xbox
FF HD- $60 PS2
DK Bongos w/ Bongos- $30 GC
LOTR Two Towers- $6 Xbox

360 64 MB Memory Cards (3 I think)- $20
360 Face Plates (2 I think)- $10

Various UMB movies and PSP games (Tony Hawk, Greksky Hockey 06, NBA 06)

Various DS titles

Hope this helps.

Still lookin for a cheap polarium, what are the prices for polarium at TRUs if anybody remembers? Somebody said $9.99 plus 30% off, so $7 at the 30s and $6 at the 40s? I'll pay somebody $10 to ship me one if anybody is interested.

I was thinking of going to Wheaton today, but I went to GameCrazy instead. Anyhow, are these the sale prices or the listed prices.....if I remember correctly, they have a ton of same stuff on the shelf. I'm even patient enough to wait for the next series of drops.

The store in west Wichita, KS is also at 40-60% off. I stopped by last night just to check and was surprised that the signs had been changed. They have a ton of Micro's left ($59.99), but that was the only hardware I saw. They also had found some stuff evidently since last time I was there, at 20-40% (2 weeks+ ago) they had ran out of xbox faceplates, yet lastnight there were hot rod, and the TSZ ones on the shelf.

FYI when i bought a game a couple days ago at TRU they didnt even mark the package with permanent marker, just make sure you go to some really stupid looking cashier, you could also watch what they do to other people's merchandise before you buy.

Also by all means, DO NOT PAY for the item if they mangle it, just walk out and say no thanks.

Dewitt NY is 40-60% and still has games for each system. I saw a few Polariums at 29.99 before discount, they had Final Fantasy XI PS2 Hd's, GB Micro's for like $60 or something, a lot of strategy guides I picked up GT4 for $5.

Anyone?

I can't find the TRU's number to call them and check on the games I'm interested in... only a good deal if they followed the MSRP markdowns of last week =/

I picked up Fire Emblem for the GameCube, but I didn't realize that I must have picked this up from the Media Play closings. So, I have an extra for trade if anyone has anything extra for trade. It's still new and unoppened. I'd probably want another good RPG/strategy type of game or something like that.

Let me know,
Mike

I wouldn't walk out, I'd ask to talk to a manager and calmly explain to them that I'm a collector and that cutting up the box makes the game worthless to me. Then I'd explain that they CAN take the plastic wrap off the game if they want and they'll be safe since no store will take back an open game without a receipt.

Walking out like a jerk would just confirm their suspicions that you're some kind of scammer looking to buy games on clearance and return them to another TRU.

If anyone can find them, I'd love to get some Wavebirds if they are 50% off or more. I'll handle shipping and all that.

/just a heads up in case

They're all gone. They had upwards of 20 of them a week ago and now they're just not there. Not to mention the scores of other things people are buying "cuz it's cheap! Hey tammy, get Cheddar that there vidjagame! Hell, I ain't know if'n he like it, it cheap!"

The staff at the Indy 38th St TRU was telling people that they set their games to 70% on accident and that they had cleared everything out already.

tru doesnt take electronics/games without a reciept anymore so i'm guessing they just don't want anyone reselling their items?

Just by Wheaton again today and there is still a good amount of games, good titles are going quick (there were less today than last night). With the way the store looked today, they will be closed within a week. Most of the RZone was closed off and they are just stacking stuff randomly.

On the other hand, the Tysons location still has a bunch of stuff. My buddy picked up Fatal Frame III, King Kong, Outlaw Golf 2, Battlefield 2, Darkwatch and Killzone for $80. All of the guides are 70%. I picked up Half Life 2, Gun, The Warriors, Conker, Quake 4, and Battlefield 2 for $25 and a Mickey Mouse DVD player for $40 (it is for my daughter).

The TRU in Parsippany, NJ is 40-60% Off. I saw some very upset guys holding the signs outside. Did not go in though. I'll check it out Monday (It's snowing here for 2 days).

Actually...they just pulled all the games and put them in back. They still have some games, they're just not out (at least they weren't as of about 4pm Saturday)...

I was there near that time, I didnt really buy the story, but didnt have the time to debate it with their staff. I figured if they really did sell everything it may have been in mass to a secondary store in Indy (McVans, ect).

Fairfield, CA TRU is currently at 30-50%. PS2, Game Cube, Nintendo DS sections have been thoroughly ransacked of any good games, didn't really look at the Xbox section, and the Gameboy Advance section has 60+ copies of World Championship Poker.

Went to the Parsippany, NJ TRU, it was 40% off of games and hardware, didn't have any hardware left though, picked up Polarium for 6 bux, had a good amount of games left in the case, a lot of baten kaitos, jak games, ratchet uya, gunstar heroes were all not in the case, saw one copy of sprung there. It's like 11 bux with the discount. Like 5 donkey kongas left.

I went by the Wheaton store, and I still wasn't all that impressed with the sale price. 40% of MSRP is hardly of significant discount considering the other deals here at CAG. I'll wait and see what's left and available at the next drop. A good 50% or more is on par with a good price. There was enough there to warrant that games will make it to another drop. They had about 25 Taiko Drum/Game sets...but those won't sell at a MSRP of $40 until the discount is above 50%.

I did pick up the last system available, however. Finally picked up a GB Micro. Was eventually going to get it, but even at $60 I still feel as if I could have gotten it for less a month or two down the line. If someone is interested enough, I don't have any attachment to it as of yet and it's still sealed, lmk.

I agree, 40% on TRU prices barely even puts a dent in it since what they originally charge for stuff is so much more than other stores, the only thing its good for is getting those 9.99 games dirt cheap!

The niagara falls store is still PACKED with toys, it doesnt even look like anything at all has been sold, its gonna take a long time to liquidate all that stuff, also our TRU seems to be the most behind on price drops as we just got the 30-50% off last wednesday.

The TRU on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh, NC had a bunch of Taiko Drum Masters (game + drum controller bundle). They told me it was $30 but when the cashier rang it up, it was only $15. He didn't believe it and almost didn't let me have it. Not sure if it's still $15, but might be worth a shot. I already had this game but needed an extra drum controller. :)

If someone is interested enough, I don't have any attachment to it as of yet and it's still sealed, lmk.
Tysons location is closing? Hmmm i might head over there. Is it worth it at all to go to the Wheaton location now? I mean is there anything left or has it been picked clean? Anything DS? Also unless you realy want the micro i would find some way to return it to walmart or somthing , it realy isnt worth $60 when you already have a DS and maybe a SP :)

Stopped by the Signal Hill, CA today and found the aisles picked nearly clean. It must've been a mad house there. I picked up ESPN NFL 2K5 for $7 and Gunstar Superheroes for $21. Not too bad, but not too hot either.
