Amazon Credit & GC Deals FAQ by Lucian[hiddenlist]

1. What is Amazon game credit? How is it different than a gift card?
Amazon game credit is a discount off a new order only. This means it cannot be applied to an existing order, unlike a gift card that can be applied at any time. Occasionally, a CAG will report that customer service applied a game credit balance to an existing order, but this is extremely YMMV.

In addition, game credits can only be used on gaming items. This generally includes all games and accessories for consoles, handhelds, and PC shipped and sold by Amazon. Credits usually cannot be used on systems (either console or handheld). As far as digital content is concerned:
- Xbox Live codes sent via email - No
- Xbox Live physical points cards - Yes
- PSN codes sent via email - Yes (confirmed by grantme 7/3/2011)
- PSN physical wallet cards - Yes (someone please confirm via PM)
- PC game downloads - Not sure (someone please advise via PM)

2. What about the expiration date? Does this mean I can't use it on a preorder that releases after the expiration date?
The expiration date is the date by which a qualifying order must be placed. The order does not need to ship by that date; however, if you cancel the order after the the credit expires, it is gone and cannot be recovered.

3. Can I stack game credit?
Yes, you can stack game credit to your heart's content. However, remember that each game credit has an expiration date and must be used prior to the expiration date. Currently, Amazon does not provide information on your credit balance through their website, so either track it yourself or call customer service for assistance.

4. When will I get my game credit or gift card?
The exact timeframe is specified on the product page in the section detailing the game credit, but it is usually 2 business days. The game credit or gift card will be deposited into your account and you should receive an email notification once that occurs. Of course, it is possible for email delivery failure, so you can check your account depending on the type of bonus:
- Gift card - Go to your account and check your gift card balance
- Game credit - See FAQ #9 below 'How can I check my credit balance?'

Please wait the expected time frame before contacting customer service asking for your credit.

5. Can I use game credit and gift cards on the same order?
Yes.

6. I want to order two (2) copies of Newborn Ninja Assassins 2 because of the $15 game credit. Will I get $30 in credit?
No. Game credit offers are limited to 1 per household per title, so you will only receive 1 game credit.

7. What if I order one (1) copy of Newborn Ninja Assassins 2 for PS3 and one (1) copy for Xbox 360? Will I get 2 game game credits now?
No. CAGs have reported only receiving 1 credit per title even though the titles are for different platforms (i.e., have different SKUs).

8. A credit was just added to a game that I already had preordered. Do I need to cancel my order to qualify for the credit?
No. To date, all game credit promotions have had verbiage indicating that This offer will be extended to all existing pre-orders.. To be 'safe', you may want to get a screenshot of the promotion as proof should you need to contact customer service after the game ships.

9. How can I check my credit balance?
Place a preorder for any title to see how much promotional credit is applied. Cancel the order and the promotional credit will be released back to your account as long as it has not yet expired.

Also, Amazon recently added the ability to view your balance on the MP3 download screen. Go to any MP3 download page and look for a blue splat with a $ in it; it's right below the purchase button. Click the link next to the blue splat that says 'Redeem a gift card or promotion code & view balance' and a pop-up will display available credit. Videogame credits will display under the category 'SOFTWARE/VIDEO GAMES', but may contain credit applicable only to software downloads.

Other Amazon-related questions

1. Why does my order say the estimated ship date is a week after release?
Amazon prioritizes shipping for Prime members and those who paid for shipping over those taking advantage of their Free Super Saver Shipping (FSSS) option. Sometimes this means that a preorder will not ship for a few days after release, though I've never had an order take as long as they estimate. I expect their estimates accomplish 2 things:
- It covers their worst case scenario backlog and makes you feel better when it ships earlier than estimated.
- It's a nice marketing ploy to get you to either pay for shipping or sign-up for Amazon Prime.

2. My Amazon Prime or Prime trial is going to expire in a few days. What happens to my existing orders or preorders?
Amazon Prime (whether a full membership or a trial) applies to all orders placed during the Prime membership period. This means that if you preorder an item that ships months after your Prime expires, that order will still be covered under your Prime benefits (i.e., free standard or 2-day shipping and sometimes release-date delivery). If an item becomes eligible for Release Date Delivery (RDD) and you already have it preordered with 2-day shipping, it will automatically be upgraded to RDD even if your Prime has since expired. However, if you need to change the payment method (e.g., if your credit card has expired) on an order after your Prime has expired, your Prime benefits on that order will be lost. In this situation, you can apply a gift card balance without affecting Prime benefits.

Not necessary. I had an order that seemed to have first used a credit expiring later than another credit. I could tell because the credits were different amounts and I knew which one expired soonest.

That sucks hopefully amazon will list the Nintendo 3DS soon so I can preorder it with all the credit I have.

if i remember correctly, i think nintendo was going to announce when the 3ds is released sometime in october. amazon will probably list it after that

I think it is September 28th so hopefully amazon will list it on that day or the next. My $20 credit expires on the 30th of September.

o damn thats cutting it close.

now i haven't tried this myself, but if need be, couldn't you make a new preorder for something, using the $20 credit, and then when the 3ds is listed, add/combine it to the existing order and cancel the original preorder?

That sounds like it will work. I'll try it as a last resort if amazon doesn't list it in time.

I know some people were able to get Dead Rising 2 at a lower price...but does anyone know if it's worth getting at the full price? Any advice would be great!

Probably not worth it. I'd wait for a better deal or price drop. Just my opinion from previews.

Stupid question: If I have a game on pre-order that had some promotional discounts applied, if I cancel it, will those promotional credits go back to my account, or will they be gone forever?

I believe if the credit hasn't expired it'll revert back to your account. If it has expired, you may lose it.
I believe if the credit hasn't expired it'll revert back to your account. If it has expired, you may lose it.
Yep. As long as it's not expired you can cancel an order anytime and it goes right back to your account. If it's expired, you're SOL (unless you contact Amazon CS and they're feeling nice).

I ordered Black Ops months ago with a promo credit before the special editions were announced, I ended up ordering the Hardened Edition and emailed asking if they could move over my credit so I wouldn't lose it. Didn't seem like an issue at all when I contacted them.

amazon put all my stuff on wrong trucks and now even with next day i dont get them till next week

Email from amazon said mostly its not their fault it got put on the wrong trucks..

ITS YOUR #$#$# workers

Apparently Walmart pulled their $20 credit so amazon swiftly followed (pretty stupid since if they kept it, they'd probably be making a profit)

I was gonna use my credit on this but unless they give back the $20 i wont

Recently, Amazon updated their functionality so you can check your available credit(s) by going to the MP3 Downloads section. Anyone know of any other decent Black Ops deals? I really should've jumped on the Hardened Edition when they were offering the $20 gift card, but to be honest I didn't think they were going to pull it like they did. Ugh, lame. :whistle2:?

Not at the moment, but I bet Kmart will have a deal.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. Unfortunately we have no K-marts here, and it seems like all of their deals are in-store only. Boo!

Okay so I preordered Black Ops when it was offering the $20 VGC, I just received the $20 from Reach...is there any way I can apply that without canceling my Black Ops order? I don't want to end up losing that $20 from Black Ops...

It's the biggest release of the year, and all the retailers want a piece of the pie. I wouldn't be surprised if the same deals that we had for Halo Reach are matched for Black Ops. So I'm not too worried about preordering, Amazon will probably wise up and put the $10/$20 gc next month, when preorder sales start to pick up close to release date.

I agree, the Amazon credit for Black Ops will probably return. After all the sales numbers come in for Reach, the major retailers will want to make sure they get our money for Black Ops and there will most likely be some great deals. If Amazon brings back the $20 credit and includes the preorder bonus they have now they will get my money.
Hopefully amazon will add LBP2 to the list of games!
I second this. I'm wanting the collectors edition with a credit, too. Want those bookends.

Notice to the OP: Amazon is also offering the $10 gaming credit for the PC version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. Additionally, the game is currently prices at $39.99 instead of $59.99 for the console versions. $40 + a $10 gaming credit is a pretty good deal on a game that isn't even out yet.
Email or call Amazon. Either one works. But don't cancel your preorder.
apparently I was trying out that live chat room and the person I talked to doesn't even understand s**t :bomb:

As I never received my $20 credit for Halo Reach, I emailed Amazon customer service. Instead of giving me video game credit, they are just reimbursing my card 20 bucks.

Since Reach was already on an old ECA order at a Gold Box price, I ended up paying $19.83.

Kmart is going to have some sort of deal for it as well as for Dead Rising 2.

Amazon really has lost a lot of my business lately due to their constant changing of prices and promotions.
This is a lesson to always preorder early.
If you preordered Black Ops BEFORE they took away the $20 promo, will you still get it? The answer seems to be "yes" based on some of the snootier posts some people are making.

But on all the $$ promos, don't they say that Amazon reserves the right to remove this promotion at any time? So aren't they retroactively canceled as well, since technically nothing has been billed or committed?

You'll still get the $20 promotional credit if you preordered before the $20 was pulled ;) That's their policy. Take a look at their Pre-order price guarantee.

What? The console versions are priced at $59.99...

Since I wouldn't buy Black Ops on anything less than a PC (which all consoles are imo) and they never put a discount with the PC version, the change really doesn't affect me. Damn shame, too. If only Amazon would treat PC gamers with the same bonuses as console gamers, they'd see higher sales.

Hopefully, Kmart does more for the PC gamer (as they have with Civ V, SC2, and upcoming Fallout NV).

Just got the email back.

"Greetings from Amazon.com.

You've earned a $20 Video Games credit with Amazon.com's Pre-order Price Guarantee!

A $20 Video Games credit was offered on an item after you ordered it. The following title earned the offer:

Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle
Video games credit amount at order date: $0
Highest video games credit offered on this item before release date: $20.00
Total video games credit enclosed: $20.00

The promotional code listed below may be redeemed towards the purchase of any item from the Amazon Video Games store that is sold and shipped by Amazon.com."

So I sent an email to Amazon about receiving Metroid late even though I had release day shipping. I got an email back from them and they reimbursed me $5. I didn't check my email until today but apparently they sent me another email a couple days ago(over 2 weeks after receiving the first email with the reimbursed $5) and they sent me another $5 gift certificate to make up for it. Believe me, I'm not complaining but this seemed a little odd.

I also got an email in response to one of my own, offering $5 towards my next purchase due to not receiving Metroid on release date, followed by another random one a week later offering me $5 using a code. It said, though, that the code was for upgrading to one day shipping. I haven't tried yet to see if it will still deduct $5 if I stay with 2 day prime shipping.

It's just a $5 giftcard, you can use it on anything. I got the same e-mail, and just applied it to one of my existing pre-orders.

I also just pre-ordered Black Ops yesterday, and sent Amazon an e-mail. Their page still said the $20 video game credit at the bottom (maybe a mistake?), but I shot them an e-mail anyway, and this was their response.

"Hello,

Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you placed your order and the release date.

If the price changes before the item ships, you'll see the updated price in Your Account. If the price changes after your shipment is already being prepared, you'll receive a refund within 24 - 48 hours of the release date.

Since you purchased this item before the promotion was removed you will also receive your promotional credit after it has been shipped.

We look forward to seeing you again soon."

So, I'm counting that as confirmed that I'm receiving the $20. If I don't get it, I have this e-mail for proof that they said I'd be getting it.

Is there only 4 games at a time that have the $20 gc? I have a 20 from Metroid burning a hole in my pocket, and I don't want to waste it on a 10 gc if a 20 gc will become available soon.
PLUS it expires Nov 30th, so I have Black Friday sales to enjoy with it too.
