Pre-Order Borderlands 2 from us for 10% off and help me get a tattoo! Yes it activates on Steam!

I am a huge Borderlands 2 fan and I want this to be our best selling pre-order ever. So I've drawn a line in the sand. If, from now until launch, we take 40,000 more preorders than where we were on 7/2/2012 I will get a Borderlands tattoo on my back.

I am aware of the examples on the first page of what sites amazon doesn't pricematch, but gog.com isn't there, otherwise I wouldn't have asked, but gog.com falls under the "international deal" I assume :)

They are based in Poland. It's not always apparent where a company is from, but a little googling will get you that information.

On a similar note, I wonder how long before someone with Amazon Prime will ask Tony to match the IGN Prime free game of the month.

I do :) And I just started playing through it again recently, but I want to purchase a copy as a gift since someone asked me to recommend them a "scary" game and I think this fits the bill.

I realize I didn't respond with the info that, while we won't be PMing GOG, we'll have this same deal (but the Steam version) next week when Mayhem starts...

Also Fox,

I'll look into Amnesia, I know we had to pull it from the site briefly while we worked through some distribution rights issues. Let me see where we're at.

Cheers,
Tony

Hi Tony,

:) How about giving them a 1-2 combo and not only matching their price but giving us the deluxe version for that price. We love you!

Do we know how much Divinity 22 will be next week? I am game if there is a steam key. If not I am probably still game at this point. :)

Goddamn and I thought I was going to put some money aside, now with Mayhem coming and Steams Summer Sale probably not far off...poor wallet.
So mayhem is next week? Starting Sunday??
It is starting next week but not on Sunday :). Still finishing up the lineup, which will determine what day we start, look for mid-late week.
Hi Tony,

:). Like I said we won't be matching during the current time period as they are international, but the deluxe version will be 50% off too when we put it up. I'm working on getting a DRM free version too so we can offer both.
Do we know how much Divinity 22 will be next week? I am game if there is a steam key. If not I am probably still game at this point. :)
$5.99 and we SHOULD have Steam keys by the end of this week, meaning it is more than likely making it into the sale both DRM free and Steamed.
Goddamn and I thought I was going to put some money aside, now with Mayhem coming and Steams Summer Sale probably not far off...poor wallet.
:( Sorry man! I mean, I'm glad you're buying games from us but I feel for your wallet.

Cheers,
Tony

Holy crap that is a great deal for Divinity 2:DKS. I sold my 360 copy when I bought a pc from Amazon last month, so I will be game for sure.

I think Amazon owns me at this point.
Tony please say the Hamsters are running to match Steam's Alan Wake sale!
Ninja posted, see above. Again, just a note on Price Matching, this is a pretty clear cut example of a product that will be scrutinized heavily as to whether or not the PM was worth it.

Again, I provide this kind of information so that you guys have as much context as possible for our PM strategy moving forward and the fact that we are constantly discussing and analyzing it.

Cheers,
Tony
Not sure on American Nightmare, we should be. I have a meeting with the AW guy tomorrow so I will ask him.

+1 or just say if we would be better off waiting for next week ;)

I'm pretty sure he said they are/were going to have the same deal next week (50% off) on Alan Wake, but were going to include the Deluxe edition as well.

Well, anyway thanks for trying to get a better offer, we appreciate your effort.

Just wondering something... I bought the Double Fine bundle and there is a download link on my Downloads page... is it for the full game? Or is it just there to comply with the system? Or is it you can DL it there and then have to use the Steam code? Sorry to bother. (I was wondering if i have to use DRM or not)

It is there to comply with the system, if you click that button you'll download a small HTML file that will pop up when you click "Install" this give customers not familiar with Steam instructions for what to do from there.

Cheers,
Tony
Check out how we're displaying it to the customer on page:

http://www.amazon.com/Focus-Home-Interactive-41032-Thrones2/dp/B00806YCIC/

And yes, the goal is to be able to provide publishers with solid data around what sells. My personal hypothesis is that they are better off selling both Steam keys and a DRM free version, to cater to the non-zero number of people who don't want to use Steam but also the non-zero number of people only want to use Steam.

Cheers,
Tony

Just heard back the Steam version of AGOT will still use Actcontrol ( :( ) and we should have Divinity DKS Steam Keys in time for the MAYhem sale ( :) ).

Cheers,
Tony
So how is a page with 2 concurrent DRM going to specify the kind of information in the second post? The only difference for the two pages- beyond selecting the page from their link's name- is in the description box. Illustrated below.

Additional info:
This game utilizes ActControl DRM
vs.
This game utilizes Steam DRM

While some customers may understand the second phrase, it's not clear. I can definitely see customers confusing the second phrase as "Steam serves as the only DRM on this download/code" instead of "Steam activation code with ActControl DRM on top." Makes me wish Steam had more prominent and accurate DRM descriptions too, especially for bundles.

Yeah, I agree there is room for improvement on those descriptions. We're working on it, for now our main concern is communicating to customers - "This version will work on Steam" vs. "This game does not require you to install Steam".

There is a more elegant solution to this but we're fleshing it out over here before we make another set of changes to the page.

Cheers,
Tony

Got to agree here. Amazon (and Steam too because the ACT Control is not listed on their page either in this case) need to be absolutely clear on ALL DRM required on the games they are selling.

When I see a statement that a game utilizes Steam as DRM with no other statement following it regarding DRM I assume that Steam is the only DRM. It was only past experience with this publisher that raised a red flag for me and prompted me to ask.

OMG @ GOG's Alan Wake ($15) + American Nightmare deal ($11.24 if you buy AW).
And DRM-FREE, too.

Tony, I just can't resist this GOG deal...

You might want to talk to Remedy about them giving you a DRM-FREE Build of Alan Wake + American Nightmare, as well...

GOG got the upper-hand here...

I believe that if you buy it from Amazon, register on Steam, it then gives you 25% off American Nightmare on Steam because you then have it on Steam ...Amazon doesnt carry american nightmare yet...at least I dont believe so....again this is essentially the same deal but all activated on Steam

For me, DRM-FREE > Steam.
For me, DRM-FREE > Steam.
I'm glad that Amazon is supporting both though. If I can't get it on Steam, then getting it DRM-free is the next best thing. Having that choice is great.

Agreed.
It's all about choice.

If Amazon DVG is going to offer gamers a choice of Steam version vs. DRM-FREE, I'd likely take DRM-FREE.
If Amazon DVG is offering Steam vs. Some Other DRM Version, I'd have to look at what the other DRM is...

Hell, I can always add a Non-Steam game to my Steam list [of Non-Steam games] - especially for screenshot-taking purposes.

This is completely off topic but I got Splinter Cell from the BOGO Ubisoft sale and I'm having a problem. At the police station level I go to the door after shooting the skylights and it is supposed to save and load into the next area from when I remember playing the retail. Anyone how to fix this?

Probably worth mentioning that Alan Wake: GOG Version ($15 right now) has ALMOST ALL of the Collector's Ed content.
The In-Game Commentary, Alan Wake Files Digital PDF, and Both DLC's [Signal & Writer] are all there..

Only thing missing from the Alan Wake: GOG Version is The Soundtrack.
And GOG said there will be more "extras" coming on the page - so, if Soundtrack does get added, I'll let cha know.

GOG also gives you PDF Manual; 7 Writer in the Cabin videos; 9 Night Spring Episode vids; Making of the game vids; wallpapers.

Just so Amazon DVG knows what the heck they're competing against...
And in case Amazon DVG might want parity w/ the GOG Version...
