Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Gooncave can only be used for the duration of the sale, right? Or will it continue to be usable throughout the Steam sale for some price matching goodness :D?

Also, can it be used on preorders? EUIV looks mighty tempting...

How does the gooncave work? I thought it price-matched Steam and took additional 15% off. I was trying to get Borderlands 2 4-pack with Gooncave and it wants $71 instead of $30 + 15% off.
Amazon has yet to price match BL2. The code itself does not price match with Steam. It only takes 15% off.

will tomb raider price at amazon be $12.49 for another 45 hours or so? i want to wait till the last hour to get it just in case something else better comes along.

I'm still amazed that Mars: War Logs was in those indie bundles. It's a main Steam sale daily deal and only 50% off, even has cards. I've been quite enjoying it myself, apparently they completely redid all the dialogue after release (after the poor reviews) and while it has a few poorly structured moments, I've found it quite well written. That bundle has definitely been my best deal of the year so far.

Don't judge me because I'm beautbacklogged!

I am seriously amused at the amount of wait advise I'm getting. ^_^

Backlog or not, if I was going to play it soon, I'd probably bite. ~$10 for a recently released and well liked game is workable pricepoint. ...and I'm not backlogging a Squeenix game at more than $5 (I could stretch to $7.50). The lack of SP DLC however will likely allow me to pick it up before the GOTY edition. ...but my playtime belongs to other games right now...
$10 for a game you're looking forward to and will play immediately isn't bad at all, especially a game under 6 months old.

Tony,

With only one day left on the sale, is there even a remote possibility of the Dragon Age Pack coming back? It's the only thing I've been waiting on and saved a few bucks for. It'd be especially cool if it went back on sale while the Gooncave code was still valid. :)

You know I... had to ask. (My best Shatner)

Oh, so that's how the code worked. Thanks guys

Also since it's been a while since the new deals, is it safe to assume Amazon won't be price matching Borderlands 2? I hope this doesn't sound whiny, I just want to know if they will or not before I buy it on Steam.

I'd wait and see. I believe they were aiming at matching any non-flash sales, but it takes a while before their price change goes through. Steam offers last for 48 hours though(?), so I wouldn't rush it.

On that note; PM the Borderlands and Sniper franchises already so I can throw my money at you.

Whoa, what the heck? I've suddenly got notifications for every new post in the thread, same as if someone had quoted or replied to one of my own comments. It's never done that before. What happened? (I haven't changed or enabled anything.)

CAG 3.0 is always glitching out. Try unfollowing (link in the top right of thread), then refollowing but unchecking the subscribe to notifications box. Seems to be the easiest way to fix it :)

Hrrm ... Bought the cag bundle 3 on July 6, did not receive the 3 games (Maw, Foreign Legion, Guns of Icarus), opened a ticked with support, got told that it should have happened and the tech team is investigating.

Now 3 days later the same person tells me that the promotion only ran until July 1st and is offering a refund on the bundle. The language about the promotion seems to have disappeared from the website as well, but is still in this post.

What's happening here?

Same here. Bought the Bundle on July 07 and never received those promoted games.
Hey guys,

PM me man with your order IDs sorry about the delay.

Cheers,

Tony

Tony, can the daily on Borderlands 2 at 66% off, including season pass also at 10.19 and the psycho and mechomancher packs at 3.39 each be matched?

thank you

Tony,

Are we gonna get a price match on Borderlands 2 Season Pass - I'd rather spend my money with Amazon, just don't know if I should be waiting on the PM or not...?

So it the digital version of Tomb Raider steamable? Not seeing the usual bolded text to indicate it, and if not, what is it using? (sorry, been out of CAG for a while, in fact both this thread and the Steam thread have new threads versions since I was away).

Steam account required for game activation and installation.

In my defense, this was in the "Additional Screenshots" section. TY

http://www.amazon.com/Square-Enix-41017Tomb-Raider2-Download/dp/B007VFHGZ4/ref=sr_1_1_title_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1373769498&sr=1-1&keywords=tomb+raider
FYI .. it says its Steam right on the top of the games page under the DRM tag.

Almost all Steam games I believe now have this tag on it.

That means it will randomly get pulled without notice...
I'm sure Tony will give us notice when the code will expire whenever they put an end date on it so people can use it.

I see no reason to believe Amazon will cancel the coupon "without notice" seeing as how well Tony communicates with everyone here.

Matches are in place, just not flown through yet.
Cheers,
Tony
Do price matches only apply to the daily deals?
Will games that are on sale through the whole sale get matched?
Are there games that are set to match that still haven't flipped yet?
Do you want a (long) list with links?
:D

IIRC Tony said they're not matching flash/community (8-hour sales)... everything is should be fair game to ask for (48-hour dalies, sale-long prices).

That means it will randomly get pulled without notice...
Don't be such a Negative Nancy. Tony said they'll evaluate when to end it. That said, if there's some $10 purchase you want to make, I'd probably make it.

so stupid question time: is posting in this thread the wrong way about asking for a PM? Still hoping for a Mutant Blobs match, so should I be submitting it to amazon or posting here? (guess I can just do both, but for future reference...)

I think just here.. but imo, proper etiquette should be

Steam Game [linked] $price

Amazon Page [linked]

...didn't any of you go to finishing school?
