Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

I got a Zelda 3ds bundle from target it was $219 normal price and $238.69 after sales tax. Expensive I thought it was going to be $199.99

I am going back tomorrow or soon to try and get the sale price matched and get that sweet $150 deal like they did the bundle on Black Friday. It was the last bundle within Gilroy, Marina, San Jose area CA. Was a hassle to get this sucker. I am keeping it whether I get the price match sale or not.

Made a last minutes decision to try and purchase a Mario & Luigi 3DS XL at Walmart for price match tomorrow. Took forever to get my pickup order and return and re buy to get the giftcard. Hope the price match is easier than the purchase.

Hell, my kid can't even play Secret of the Magic Crystals while I'm playing a whole different game on the same Steam account. Most people don't seem to care any more (or would even defend these restrictions!) but all of our consumer freedoms are being completely eroded in the digital world.
Arbitrary restrictions notwithstanding (and for the record, I agree with you), your kid CAN play SotMC while you're playing a different game.

1) Install your account on your kid's computer. Download and install SotMC.

2) Start SotMC once. Close it.

3) Set that account to Offline Mode.

4) Your kid can play SotMC in offline mode while you're playing anything else in online mode.

Went to Best Buy before close. A worker was scanning items and flipped a few price tags upwards. The items were current sale items for this past week/DotD, and items I noticed in this upcoming ad too. So, must've been things needing new tags. Oddly, I saw them doing this to Super Mario 3D World and some 3ds games including LoZ. Looks these they didn't go on sale though. Wonder why they flipped those tags up?

Talked to my electronics team lead at work today. I can confirm that the M&L limited edition bundle will work and ring up at 149.99.

Glad I picked mine up Friday.

Maybe to do with the B1G1 50% off they had last week.

I'm sure most people got Knack @ Target during their B2G1 free week, but for those who bought it at Best Buy you should be able to get a price adjustment per their Holiday Price match policy.

^dangit, yes, totally forgot about that offer. The fact that they were tagged at MSRP threw me off. Was hoping for an individual sale on SM3DW

It's against Corporate rules to do that, so it's very YMMV. The item will be at customer service until the Electronics department has time to put it back on the shelf. That time varies depending on the traffic in the store. Furthermore, if the employee putting the item back decides to purchase it for him/herself it may never make it back to the shelf...

So, again all YMMV.
It's against policy to price match any clearance or Black Friday sales. All other sales so long as they are at Target should be able to be price matched.

Wow just stumble on this thread ha so if I bought the zelda xl for 199.99$ I can take my receipt and bring it to best buy And ask to get the difference for $150?

But on the flip side, you could buy your kid another copy and still be way ahead financially than buying a single game on a platform that supports trading. :)

I bought my niece a copy 2 weeks ago. It cost 79p. And I got half of that back in trading cards.

Good idea, the limited editions hold so much more value. The Zelda one might be impossible to find but im sure you can get the Luigi one.
That is opposite in my area there are way more Zelda bundles then Mario bundles. At both Target and Best Buy the Zelda bundles out number the Mario 3 to 1. Based only on stock around me I would say they also made a ton more Zelda bundles then Mario.

the zelda 3ds xl is $150, i saw the sales tag at my local target but unfortunately there was none in stock.  Looks like someone got in right when they opened and scooped them all up.

Just picked up a Zelda bundle from my local store, rang up at $149.99. (I then proceeded to cash in my pharmacy rewards 5% card and mailer $10 off $100 purchase...awesome deal, ~$100 off normal retail.)

I can also confirm that ALL 3ds bundles ring up $149. I got the Zelda bundle. They also had PS4 so I had to get one of those too. Happy day!!!!

Ooh rah!! I ordered BAO for Wii U for $30. My order states the game comes with pre-order bonus: "BAO collectible case". Whatever the hell that is, picture shows a poster plus it's being sent from the warehouse.

I think I'd be SOL to price match at Best Buy. Wouldn't they call to check for in-store stock? 17* out of 20 stores show as sold out.

I don't have a phone to bring either to show them anything even if I wanted to try. How do people do this..

Hm, if only they showed the Zelda bundle online because you could just add it in the cart for the price (at least it does for the Mario and Luigi bundle). I'd feel like I could walk in to price match anyway.

I'm going to try and price match the M&L bundle I got at Walmart last week, which should be no problem based on the fact that I can show customer service the price on target's website. However, I also bought a zelda bundle there on release date that I'd like to price match, but I can't find it on Target's website. It doesn't appear in the physical ad, so does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

I went to the Hampton Village store in St. Louis, and I just missed getting a PS4 by two people in line.  There were a stack of Xbox Ones, but I wasn't interested in that.  However, I did get a Zelda 3DS bundle, and there was still one left.

Indeed, a great deal! I grabbed a Zelda one for my son and a Mario & Luigi one for my wife for $302 w/Red card and tax. Awesome deal! My Target had three more Zelda bundles in stock so someone will be happy today!

No Zeldas in the Target I went too but did see all 3DS XL for $150.  Also saw a few Xbox 1s.  I wish Best Buy would have a price protection that runs through Christmas so I could get the Zelda I bought on launch price matched and get a refund.

The add mentions Steelbook case for the game, maybe that' what the pre order bonus is on the website.
