Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Do you have to buy items in separate orders to get separate $5 credits? And is there anything that you won't get the credit for? I just did a search for PC digital games and set a price range for under 50 cents and got 4 pages worth of stuff.
You always have to buy items separately: there isn't any cart.

Any $ purchase of game or DLC is covered (free stuff and $0.01 demos aren't.)

Thanks, I'm gonna pick up a Borderlands 2 DLC that I actually want and maybe this Saints Row gun that I might use once. Hopefully it gets me some good deals in January and no huge loss if it doesn't.

Tomorrow? Tony are you saying we can pay $5 to get either XCOM Enemy Within or Civ V Brave New World at tomorrow 12am PST?
Negative.

Looking at last minute stuff because I shouldn't be spending money anyways, but the Max Payne Complete Pack is supposed to be $6.99 and it's currently $19.99 and it's one of the things I was going to buy.

12/19/2013 to 1/3/2014 Max Payne Complete Pack - $6.99

Is there anything really really cheap as coupon fodder?
This is my bad, I thought I'd updated this everywhere, the end date on that was a miscommunication between us and the publisher, it ended on like 12/27 or 12/28.

Giana Sisters is at $7.19 right now, but you missed a lower price earlier this week.

DuckTales is $8.99 currently, but again you missed a lower price last week.

So I suppose it would make it easier to get those prices.
Taking all these suggestions and adding the ones I hadn't already made.

Cheers,

Tony

You work too hard, dude!

I already had those games, sadly. :p

I swear I'm going to be trying SO HARD to do better in 2014 to spend less money. I'm not talking about "spend less money on games", I mean more like "don't buy games". So I'll likely be more choosy about what I get.

Although to be honest, it likely just means I'll be spending more money on fewer games (that I'll actually play), rather than less money on many-games-I-won't-play...

Other than a bunch of Kickstarter games that will finally start to get released, I'm looking forward to:

The Witness

Broken Age

Drive Club

Mushroom 11

Super Time Force

Framed

Yoshi's New Island

Dr. Luigi

Chibi Robo Photo Finder (The original Chibi Robo is one of my all-time favorite games.)

Watch Dogs

Destiny

Titanfall (maybe?)

Thief

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

I'm probably missing a few games, but those are the ones in my "look out for" list. And I'm sure there will be some other games that I wasn't aware of that sneak up and I end up getting.

I must admit I've never played much of any Metal Gear game, and not sure why it's on my list. I pre-ordered it, but there's time to cancel if I decide to. But I'm up to give it a chance.)

Yikes, that's still a pretty long list of games. Not even counting Kickstarter games (other than Broken Age)... *sigh* gonna be pretty expensive year regardless of how much I try otherwise!

I think the game is extremely awesome and definitely worth that price. I wasn't a big fan of the stand alone expansion but for the extra $1 might as well.
Which is the standalone expansion? The descriptions lead me to believe that the collector's edition and extra content DLC things don't have any actual in-game extra content. Is that not true?

edit: Oh I see, American Nightmare is the extra content. Looks like Amazon has that for $4.99 separately so I may grab that from Steam after buying the base game from Amazon.

I was looking at the "Franchise" pack for $3.99 it includes the expansion called American Nightmare.
American Nightmare is actually a separate game all together. I played through both Alan Wake and American Nightmare and for 3.99, it's totally worth it for the whole sha-bang! I'm actually a little jealous of those of you for getting these cool games for 4 bucks.

-Quote of the Day -

You can't be a CAG and not buy games too.

I am really wanting to purchase that pack, but...

Does anyone know what restrictions are on manhunt 2? It says it has securom, but I am wondering if there are any installation limits, or machine limits(simultaneously). If there are such limits, is there a license revoke tool?

I know that Amazon guarantees unlimited installs (really awesome you guys have that, Tony!) or you get a new key free, but I haven't found any info on the internet about it, and I don't want to purchase it without knowing everything about its DRM.

whelp...I just added up all the games I bought with credit between the 21st and today....looks like I'll be getting 15 codes. Probably 17 -19 by the time the sale is done....if I jump on that sonic bundle and dawn of war 2 bundle on Wednesday.

Is it legal to say that I usually put a crack over purchased non-steam games with bad drm?

Here are a couple more dirt-cheapies for EC credit fodder:

Demonlisher [Download] $0.30

Glacier Racer [Download] $0.30
  • Incredible speeds!
Got me there, bought.

but don't forget Pizza Dude !

For only 20cents more you can get Ubersoldier 2, it doesn't look bad.

I used no-CD patches all the time back in the retail days... stemmed from not having a built-in CD-ROM drive on my lappy... and later too damn lazy to swap CDs when I wanted to play a different game. I paid for it, don't prevent me from playing it.

I have five.  Figure that's enough as I'm only going to be using them on absurd deals that are practically too good to be true (like $1 titles, or $5 bundles such as that Microsoft indie one last year).  Doubt we'll see more than a couple of those.

Would you guys rather see XCOM Enemy Within at $9.99 or Civ V Brave New World?

Cheers,

Tony
Many, many, hours late but...

Enemy Within.

You can even charge me a year late for it if you want too! :D

Wow, shocked to find out I have 5 also... Then again they did start this back in November. :)

At least it's not as bad as the early Securom and a couple of other DRMs days. Where a legally purchased game would never work right out the box, "Insert disc" or some other garbage. After a fresh install. I used (and still use from time to time) NoCD cracks all the time. Publishers can suck it too if they think it's wrong.
