Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry

The funny thing is GamersGate provided everyone with Steam keys for Vanguard Princess as soon as they got them. Somehow they beat Groupees and Amazon.

I'm honestly not sure if this is something the developers worked out in advance for VP or if they're just trying to do it now. I don't even know if they contacted Amazon about it but they made it sound like they did.

I however have had to beg for some damned Greenlight keys before. :p

While Huntsman was pretty seemless (I noticed it much later), Divinity II Director's Cut (drm-free) upgrade took a long time (around the time that Div II DC steam was HIB'd). Amazon still hasn't delivered the Oddworld: Stanger's Wrath HD free upgrade to DRM-FREE buyers.

Aliens: Colonial Marines for $1.99 ?!

Now I want to knock my head against a wall cuz I paid like $55 for the pre-order and the Season Pass and only played 5 minutes till now.

This is the worst piece of shit game for a hardcore Aliens fan. $1.99 seems a little overpriced and $0.99 would be ok for non-fans

I will wait for Alien: Isolation release then decide.

I think all new games should have a demo before release.

AND SEGA STILL HASN'T GIVEN AMAZON KEYS FOR THAT.

why didn't you cancel preorder once you found out it was crap? All its poor reception made it obvious it would be dirt cheap soon after.

There's this amazing invention, very few people have ever heard of it since it's so new, called a search bar. Astounding thing. You type what you're looking for into it, then it yields search results. In the case of Amazon, it'll even suggest categories to search in based on common searches done by users.

I got the pre-order + Season Pass in a trade hence the $55 price instead of $80 and never thought they could fuck a game based on Alien franchise like that :cry:

Local multiplayer counts! I love playing fighting games side by side. You've gotta have the trash talk.

It's not the deepest fighter, but it's easy to pick up, has excellent character art and animation, and it's fun.

 
Just how broken and pathetic does your life have to be to like these trashy asian games? You guys know there's real porn on the net and it's free (mostly), right? What's the appeal aside from being mentally disturbed?

Searching for that real porn on the net can be a bad scene. You will invariably run into far, far worse things than what you are complaining about. If you want to become mentally disturbed go ahead and blind click any google search for porn on the net. In time you will be corrupted and broken by the experience. Believe me.

Ok, I'll give you that one. I can't even begin to tell of the horrors I've seen when I tried to google some of the terms the damn kids these days talk about on the net. Word of advice, sounding has NOTHING to do with audio technology.

I think it's just the novelty of soft core porn sneaking into Steam through the back door. It's something that we as Steam users aren't supposed to be seeing so people are acting sort of like a kid who discovered a playboy under his dad's bed going 'Tee heee'.

Plus some of the more devoted Anime types are a bit, err, special.

What's really interesting is that to a certain extent it's kind of a mentally disturbed process watching any porn in the first place. Sex is under normal circumstances a private act. You wouldn't want to personally be viewed partaking in it except for by the one person you are doing it with and yet are perfectly fine with someone else being viewed partaking in the action by you. I might not be explaining my point very well though.

 
Um, Tony your CS staff are telling people Amazon doesn't have the Vanguard Princess Steam keys a while the publisher is saying they gave them to Amazon.

Please understand our limitations on this matter because I would've really loved to have this resolved to your benefit if only there was another way.

However as I hope you'd understand we do go through certain protocols and processes to hopefully meet your needs in the best and fastest way possible.

I sent them a message to eigoMANGA on the subject of amazon and steam keys. and this told me

We apologize for the inconvenience.

We gave Amazon Steam keys for Vanguard Princess yesterday.

They will release it to Their customers soon.

Personally I don't see why those call center people don't just try to, you know, contact the person who actually manages the digital game store but I guess that's not in their job description or something.

Just wanted to point out that GMG is offering the following Playfire rewards on Aliens: Colonial Marines.  Now I have to decide whether to pay $2 of actual money to buy it at Amazon, or $5 of credits to get it at GMG.  I'm leaning toward Amazon at the moment.
