 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Movies-TV-Anime/zgbs/movies-tv/2959100011/ref=zg_bs_nav_mov_2_2958934011 (DVD)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Ahhh. Well I saw your link and wow it is cheaper and in high quality too. I am now tempted to get the limited edition art box for 10 bones more and put my gundam wing fandom aside. Did you pick up the limited edition. I think it looks cool how you can house the complete series and that box.
Yes, I'm a sucker for art boxes. I pre-ordered the part 1 LE and part 2 from Rightstuf during the Funimation sale. I paid $26.99 for part 1 and $24.29 for part 2. If you order them on Amazon you would end up paying about $6 more than I did (~$10 if they charge tax in your state), which is still worth it IMO.

Your welcome! :)

Just make sure that you pick up part 2 also, since that LE only comes with the first half of the series.

Do you tell them to PM at the registers or you flag down an employee and then they goto there computer to PM?
I always get the pm first and they print out the paper with the quote on it, take it to the register, and if it doesn't change I mention the sale. This time around I the girl who did the pm for me mentioned the sale during the pm and just applied it. She then gave the quote paper and everything was the same.

Will do. I don't know if i'll get AO or the movie yet since I haven't ordered the first part but fingers crossed i like it and own the whole series in a week since im so compulsive lol

I'd keep the Eureka Seven if I were you. Also yes it is OOP. The unedited special edition sells for way more than what I bought it for. I got it for 99 cents plus 8 dollar shipping lol. I would assume you don't have gundam wing single operations on hand correct?

eurka seven any good?
I enjoyed that one, but it takes a while for it to get going, and even longer for the main character to stop being a whiny little b.... loser >.>

The second half of the series was really enjoyable though, even if it gets weird at times.

I like slow burns rather than in your face excitement. Makes the wait worthwhile. I like weird too and main characters are always biatches sometimes...sometimes

Fate Stay reveals from last night. The show coming up is based off Unlimited Blade Works. They are also doing a movie based off Heaven's Feel.

Speaking of Fate Stay Night, I've been watching the Studio DEEN version and it's so bad it's actually good (watching the dubbed version for maximum cringe). From the awkward localization to the super inconsistent animation, I can't help but laugh every once in a while during an episode (just finished episode 8). Curious what others thought of it, although I realize I may be one of the few people who likes watching bad movies/shows for a laugh.

Thankfully, Ufotable seems to be doing a great job with this newer series, at least based on those PV's. Fate Zero was awesome.

What's the studio DEEN version? Is that the one Geneon did a few years back? There is too much Fate stuff out now that its pretty hard to keep up with it.

I also watched first five episodes of the dubbed The Devil is a Part Timer. I watched it subbed on Hulu a few months back and liked it. The dub I thought was going to be tossed aside to some B team at Funimation but I have to say that its pretty awesome. I think the scriptwriters localized a bit much, but it flows well with the series. Whoever does Ashiya really picked up on his lines as he's still hilarious.

You can also pick up both parts at Fry's as part of the current BOGO sale for $52.50+tax, and that includes the combination of part 1 LE and part since the part 1 LE is the same price as the standard version.

You guys should try to avoid double posting, and just edit your own posts if nobody has else posted after you if you forgot to mention something previously. :p

Kinda figured lol

So not sure how amazon credit is built up. Quick explanation anyone.
I got mine from a bad customer service experience via phone when the person from leadership hung up on me so i wrote an email and they gave me 10 credits. Sometimes if you get a bad product and you return it for a replacement they give you 4 credits for the hassle alongside your replacement product, although you do have to return the original to get the replacement. Usually garnered through errors on their part. You can use the credits on things shipped and sold from amazon.com and they don't expire. although if you get a crap product you cannot get a credit refund just a refund on what you payed on your part

I see, I have received cred from them for that type of reason, for some reason I thought they had some sort of buy from amazon and get some cred or something lol, thkx

How does one go about buying fate stay and fate zero. Are they available? where do i start? keep reading about it but severely lost
You can get Fate Stay Night here

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=sfbfst100

that's the complete set. You can also get it in separate sets (Collection 1 and Collection 2)

Collection 1- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=sfbfst101

Collection 2- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=sfbfst102

Movie (Unlimited Blade Works)- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=sfbfsn001

If you want to buy those I would wait for a Sentai sale on the site because those would drop in prices.

Fate/Zero is really expensive because it's done by Aniplex

Box Set 1 (includes Dub)- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=aoa2303b

Box Set 2 (Includes Dub)- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=aoa2304b

There is also another Fate/Zero set that is basically the Japanese release of the series and here it is

Box 1 (Japanese Set)- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=4534530051691

Box 2 (Japanese Set)- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=4534530056382

if that was the case i'd buy everything from amazon including groceries. sadly it isn't. but still it's nice to know that they take care of their customers in that of they fuck up they'll give you the replacement and some credit for your next purchase.

The original video game had 3 main paths:

Fate - Focuses on Shirou and Saber. Covered in the original Geneon anine. Available from Sentai.

Unlimited Blade Works - Focuses on Rin and Archer. Somewhat covered by the Unlimited Blade Works movie (which is heavily condensed) and will be the focus of the upcoming TV show. Movie is available from Sentai.

Heaven's Feel - Focuses on Rin's sister Sakura. VERY different from the other two routes. Will be covered in the upcoming movie.

Fate/Zero - A prequel following Saber's previous Master. Available from Aniplex.

Fate/hollow ataraxia - Sequel series where all continuities come together. No anime made yet.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya - Alternate universe version of Fate/Stay Night that focuses on comedy.

So would it be best to start with Fate Stay Night and work my way to Unlimited Blade Works then Fate Zero eventually Heaven's Feel and Hollow Ataraxia? Is it even good? I was reading mixed opinions and I want to hear it from some of you folks who have been talking a lot about it.

Won my copy of FMA Conqueror of Shamballa LE for 7 bucks altogether. Still waiting on shipping adjustment on Endless Waltz, 8 bucks for expedited shipping, yeah no. So hopefully can get first class or media mail if not its whatever

Fate/Stay Night is the "base" anime that defines the rules of the series and the various characters. The plot and pacing are pretty dull, but it serves as a decent introduction to the universe.

Unlimited Blade Works covers much of the same territory as Night, but diverges to something different halfway through. The movies is extremely condensed (it covers the same material in the 26-episode series in a movie) but very, very pretty. Worth watching just for the visuals.

Hollow Ataraxia does not have an anime yet. It is only in Visual Novel form.

The upcoming anime and movie are also retellings of the story, but with different main characters.

Avoid Fate/Stay Night and Unlimited Blade Works for now. A new anime is set to air in Japan this fall that covers the exact same story with much higher production values.

Yeah, I actually double dipped on that version during the DVD Planet sale back in December. Story wise it's a bit of a mess and Shiro is just a terrible protagonist whose gullibility is just off the charts. Other than that, I found the fights to be pretty entertaining and also amusing since Shiro was a human punching bag in just able all of the battles. I didn't know until after watching the anime that it was based off of a visual novel.

How does one go about buying fate stay and fate zero. Are they available? where do i start? keep reading about it but severely lost
Fate/Stay Night was originally a visual novel. The game has multiple paths so you can play through in several different ways and characters. If you aren't familiar with visual novels, you are just clicking non stop to read/listen to dialogue and making choices. If you have a lot of time and patience, it's probably not bad. If you don't, you probably won't like it. (PS. It's a NSFW game too)

As for the animes, I'd highly recommend streaming them both F/ST and F/Z before buying them. If like them, Fate/Stay Night is easily obtainable on DVD but the Blus are a tad overpriced (IMO). This is due to Sentai spliting the releases on the Blu version. Fate/Zero was unfortunately licensed by Aniplex of America so it's insanely overpriced. Although if you look into investing in a region free or a region 2 Blu Ray player, you can import the Blus for a more reasonable price.

The Fate series also has had a movie and a spinoff anime based on one of the characters but I'd say start at those two first before getting too involved with the series.

EDIT: And of course two replies hit as I was typing this all up. blah.

I say just get Eureka Seven and skip (old) F/SN altogether (or dive right into Fate/Zero since it's a prequel anyway). That way you can go into the new Fate Stay Night fresh.

Thank you all. I guess the final verdict all around is to wait because they are remaking Fate Stay Night and Unlimited Blade Works. Now the wait begins for the eventual release in the West and for a sale so I can score Zero for a reasonable price because we all know Aniplex...Now back to waiting for a price drop on Amazon for Eureka Seven Part 1 Blu Ray LE. CAG On

I respectfully disagree with you guys. I wouldn't tell someone to skip FMA just because Brotherhood exists. Plus, there's the added advantage in this situation that only one show currently exists. It's easy to say something that doesn't exist "will be better" based on other work, but we have no way of knowing this.

But yeah, streaming it would be a good idea. Order wise, I'll always suggest that people should watch things in the order that they were released.

Actually I'd tell someone to skip FMA because Brotherhood exists. It's the definitive version. Super close to the manga and a visual masterpiece. I'd tell them to come back to the original if they wanted to but be prepared for a rushed ending that leaves you saying wtf and a movie that is very good but at the time didn't compensate.

Don't get me wrong, I am watching the DEEN version for purely academic reasons. I am right there with everyone else who is excited for the Ufotable FSN.

I usually follow this line of thinking for consumption of media (especially anime & video games), except when it comes to purchasing advice for someone else. Unless you are streaming everything, it's hard to recommend someone spend money on a part of a series that has a high chance of them not liking it. It's why folks often recommend Persona 4 (or 3 if you're a cool person!) rather than tell people to play the first two Persona games. If they end up enjoying the "best" title, digging into the series' back catalog can be an enjoyable experience for a lot of folks.

Old FMA is pretty rough but the soundtrack is way better than Brotherhood's. That alone is worth it for FMA. :p

The difference is that the original Fullmetal Alchemist is still extremely enjoyable, even when compared to Brotherhood, and does enough differently that it's worth watching for those differences. I can't say the same of Fate/Stay Night.

it's still enjoyable but i wouldn't recommend someone watch the original 50 or so episode series then go to brotherhood. if you want to watch fma watch brotherhood. if you still want more than watch the original. if you have time and money watch both. if you have neither then i don't know what to tell you

Brotherhood's first ten episodes start it out on such a rushed, sour note that I'd never suggest that version over the first 30-ish episodes from the original series. Obviously this is just my opinion, but both are worth watching in their entirety, and thankfully they're both available for streaming.
