Hey guys,

Blu-Rays and DVDs tend to pop up on sale as the Deal of the Day every now and then at Best Buy. Instead of making a separate thread everytime a movie or TV Series is featured as the DotD, I decided to just consolidate them all into one thread. I will always submit a lower price to Amazon for any DotD featured here, I recommend those people who have Amazon credit or prefer buying from Amazon do the same.

Deal of the Day for June 20th, 2015.

Select Movies on Bluray starting at $19.99.
Price: $19.99-$49.99

Ugh. Would love to get Doctor Who, but I an still waiting for BBC to release the slimmed down sets from the giftbox a year ago. Loathe the book packaging.

Be forewarned, while I really enjoyed the BTTF trilogy (not just the movies, extras were pretty great too) these movies have an extremely annoying handicap.  When I pop them into my PS3, they will start downloading "new previews" and ads.  It doesn't ask permission and AFAIK there's no way to make it stop unless you deactivate your internet connection beforehand.  It's a massive pain in the ass as it is, but I imagine with data caps being what they are now this one "feature" may be enough to stop somebody from buying.... I probably would have had I known Universal would pull this shit.

While I've never had problems with the movies themselves, I've seen several threads where people say their blu ray player gets stuck trying to download these ads and is locking them out of the movie such as these:

https://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?57808-PS3-Not-playing-Universal-Titles

Personally I can't believe people aren't more outspoken to this practice.... it seems like using your own bandwith without permision to force you to watch ads on the expensive blu ray set you just bought would be the kind of thing that pisses a ton of people off.... but, aside from Jurrasic Park, the few other Universal blu-rays I have do the same damn thing and nobody seems to mind.  Considering the backlash on similiar debacles, like when Deus Ex was advertising the Star Wars blu rays on their loading screens (which wasn't as bad IMO, at least those didn't make me wait everytime it loaded), I am wondering if Universal is throwing some extra money around?

Go to
icn_settings.gif
(Settings) >
icn_videosettings.gif
(Video Settings) > [BD Internet Connection], select "Confirm". Then reload the Blu-ray movie and the PS3 will prompt you if you wish to allow the disc to access BD-Live content. Choose to not access BD-Live content to see if the movie will now load.

Cool, thanks. That helps for my PS3 but not my other blu ray player. I usually use the PS3 anyways though so enabling/disabling the internet was always an inconvenience.

The SOA seasons are part of the "buy 2, save 15%, buy 3, save 25%" sale also running, so getting 2 seasons will save you 15% off of the sale price, and 25% off getting 3 seasons.

If you need all 5 past seasons from S6, I would make two orders, one with S1-S3 and save 25% off and another one with S4 + S5 and save 15% the last two seasons.  15% off would be $15.30 each, 25% off would be $13.49 each.

Just bought Breaking Bad BD yesterday for $102.49 with a PM to Amazon. Have to run to BB for something else, so I might as well price adjust while I'm at it. Every dollar counts!

I was on the fence about SoA, not really sure if it's something that I would like. But since I ended up picking up Walking Dead Season 1-4, and figured if I added SoA 1-5 I could do 3 separate transactions to take advantage of the extra 25% off multiple times. Hopefully I can get into SoA, lol.

It's not going to get any cheaper than $13.49 for the seasons, so if you're on the fence, I'd pick up the season sets, then read some reviews and decide if you'll keep them or not.

Yeah that's what I ended up doing. I was able to get for in-store pickup, so worse case scenario I only have to return two seasons and the rest of the orders will just cancel if I don't pick them up. But for $13.49 a pop, I will most likely end up keeping them as it was a pretty good deal.

I had picked up S1 - S4 through various sales at BB, normally around BF or there abouts. They were $17 or cheaper, though not as cheap as $13.49.

I can definitely see this getting to that price point for bf, but you think DotFP will also get this low? I think I put in a pre-order when Foxconnect had the 50% off thing going on.
It's distributed by fox so it absolutely will drop that low. Anything not distributed by Disney for the matter should be a target for a big Holliday price drop from what I've noticed shopping during black Friday the last few years

I miss Black Friday madness and shenanigans, unfortunately I will only be able to participate online since I will be in Europe during that time.

Is 4k that much better than 1080p ? I've never used 4k format before
The movie isn't showing in 4K, it's mastered in 4K and then put to BD to show in 1080p. Having a higher quality master usually means better PQ on a 1080p display since there's a better source to start with.

4K BD is supposedly coming out late next year with 4K native material showing in 4K.

It's going to be a long time before I consider 4k. There isn't going to be alot of 4k material by next year and no tv channels support it either. My current blu rays are just fine

I had a salesman at Best Buy try to push me on 4K once, the screen looked a tiny bit sharper.... but this was some 70"+ screen showing some really bright CGI aquarium footage. If that's the best they can do in a showroom, I can't imagine it making any difference with anything somebody would actually watch.

I'd be interested in 4K in terms of what it can do for sharper 3D, but aside from that I really don't think it's going to matter. I don't know why everyone seems to think it's the next big thing.... even if it was all that great, when Comcast absorbs TWC next year we'll be lucky if we are able to stream even SD video.

Any of those Midnight Marathon dvds worth checkin' out?
There are a few good movies in those packs that I have enjoyed watching (I.e. The thing, the skeleton key, land of the dead, dawn of the dead), but I couldn't tell you what the other movies are like.

Updated with today's DotD: The Walking Dead Season 4 Limited Edition and 24: The Complete Series + Live Another Day

Lame. Why put the LE up and not the SE? Hopefully, they will knock S3 and S4 Blu's down to the $20 mark this year.
They were probably just trying to get rid of inventory since the Limited Editions take up plenty of space. I haven't really been following the Walking Dead sales that closely and was going to wait for the blurays to drop sub $20 as well, but ended up getting Season 1 for $17.49, Season 2 and 4 for $22.49, and Season 3 for $24.49 when they had extra 25% on top of a sale like two months ago or so which was decent enough for me.

I got mine around post-holiday of this year. $20 for Season 1 LE and Season 2; I had chance to get Season 3 for $23 at the time, but didn't have enough cash for it. But if Season 3 and 4 are $20 or under on Blu this year, I'll buy them (unless I get them for Christmas presents).

To pull the trigger on that Halloween set.....  I recently bought the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm St. sets.  I need this Halloween collection and still waiting on a Texas Chainsaw Collection to get put together.  I don't see it going for much less than $89.99... might as well grab it now.
