BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.

Website shows 25 for FO NV for ps3, but the android app shows 9

on the android app also FU2 for ps3 and 360 shows 9 dollars and wii shows 6 dollars.

If the app is the one more up to date then people may be out of luck as of now

It could be either or. At this point doing flips is at your own risk
I guess I got very lucky, most the copies had the complete case and manual. There were stores that had some without them, but then again they also had ones that did have the complete package. Plus the sheer number of gamestops in my area is just ridiculous, and most have high trade-in volumes. I wouldn't have abused this trade so bad if it was too much a hassle, but like the first store I went to had like 6 complete copies, and I just went from there.
Doesn't your BB request an ID for trade ins? For limiting each person to a max of 3 copies.

I'm gonna try to pop a couple today... If the trade values tank, I'll just return the stuff to GS.

That's very interesting. Can anyone here with the android app do me a huge favor and check if the TIV for Medal of Honor is still $25 like the site shows? I'd really appreciate it. :bouncy:
I locked in my trade for FO NV for $25. When I send it in will them give me the 25 or the 9? Has this happened to anyone?
As long as you're locked, you should be good. Just don't miss your deadline.

Their app is beyond horrible.

I searched for Medal of honor, Medal, of, and honor and it found nothing. IT doesn't like to find things that are actually there :(

I wonder why the drop... hmm...

Well I guess anyone who legitimately wanted to trade this in just lost out...

I guess anyone who legitimately wanted to trade it in still can. They just missed out on the $25. Just like when you go to trade a game at GS and the value drops. That's called business.
I wonder why the drop... hmm...

Because things go down?

Trade in values never stay the same. The fact that these went down probably was partially because of the flipping, but likely not the only reason.

Well, like I said on the last page, like a week ago the TIV of the 360 version dropped to 12 but the PS3 stayed the same, I thought I was screwed, but then it went back up. So it may not be over yet, but Im surprised at how long they held them up there.

Walked in BestBuy with 1 PS3 FNV, and 2 Wii SWFUII , and the guy by the entrance who put a sticker on them said, "the game is so good, you had two copies?" Anyways, PS3 FNV was still $25, but Wii SWFUII were $5 each but the online estimator said $25.

Medal of Honor is still listed at $25 on the website. I'm gonna head up there in just a bit with a few things I didn't get to trade in yesterday. I've still got 2 ps3 FO's, and a PS3 SWFU II (still listed at $25 on the website, as well). I've got a few other decent finds that seemed to have held their value; I'll list the titles once I've confirmed their values.

Cry some more. TIV's go up and down, everywhere, all the time. It is business. Supply and demand dictates what these will be.
I don't know if anyone's noticed, since this has become the cry about flipping/brag about flipping thread probably not, but the TIVs have been going up at Amazon, and I'd be willing to bet it's as a direct result of this deal.
Case in point, I traded Super Mario Galaxy to BB, because Amazon was only giving about $15 for it. As of today, they give $25. I've also seen Assassin's Creed Brotherhood TIV go up about 10 bucks on Amazon. It's now at $28. Hot Pursuit, another game I'm thinking about trading in still gets a better TIV at Best Buy.
I flipped a few copies of New Vegas, sure, but I'm also taking advantage of these bumps in TIV to make sure I get the most for my trade-ins. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Folks need to stop whining about flips, and just do their homework. Trade where you get the best deal. I don't understand why it isn't that straightforward to some people.

I have no problems with people flipping...it's a lot of work going to different GS store and trying to find a game complete. I had to go through 5 stores yesterday because it would either say the game is available, but it's not or it's in a junky case with no manual.
Yeah, that's the one. The problem is they have a lot of dumb lazy asshole employees especially customer service.
I don't like the BB at Fairfield. I picked up an order 2 years ago, and they had all day to get it ready since I purchased it in the morning. I went in at night, and they had to go find it first. I think your best bet now is to either try a different BB or trade it online since you may not get the $25 deal anymore.
Yeah, that's the one. The problem is they have a lot of dumb lazy asshole employees especially customer service.
Agreed about Bb customer service, I went in to flip and actually some trade of the games I already owned. And They gave me the run around, go here, go there, I don't know how to do trades, I'm busy, I'm slow at this, please wait for a specialist. Trade took 5 mins max after I waited 30 min. For someone who cared about cs. Don't care if I make $1000 like blingbling, my time and frustration was not worth it. Last time I do a trade in at best buy.

This is the worst store that I've ever been too. Vacaville is the best option for me, they care for the customer and I always feel important when I shop there.
Plastic Jungle is completely legit but the problem with BB Gift Cards is that they don't give instant credit so you have to send it through the mail and there's no tracking so...

I recently did an instant funding (they accept cards from 30 something merchants via online form) and that went fine. got my amazon gc within 2 hours.
Actually I believe best buy is on their instant trade list. I used them twice about a month ago and traded 150 in gift cards then 60 from bb to amazon. Both times I got my amazon code in about an hour tops and probably only lost maybe 8 dollars give or take.

I just checked and it's on their list but when you click the drop down to select a store, it goes Bed Bath and Beyond to Best Western. Best buy is not there.

Why would anyone do plasticjungle.com this for amazon codes? It has been stated before that best buy sells kindle gift cards and they work just like regular gift cards to amazon. I can myself confirm this as I did it yesterday and bought Portal 2 with the card.

It's like throwing away money.
Can someone confirm that 360 NV is now $9 in store?
It's 9 dollars on the website, so YES it is 9 dollars in store, they use the website prices

That sucks. I had wondered how BB was going to handle this, since it seems like they only half-assedly went into the used games racket. My local trading store (Lake Forest, CA) is actually super-easy to deal with. But I've had the same employee both times I've been in there. So maybe she's the only one that knows what she's doing :)

If you look back to when plasticjungle was recommended, you'll see that Best Buy does not sell Amazon gift cards in every state.

Ahhh my bad, I didn't see that. This thread is pretty long and I think I missed a few posts.

Does anyone know if the price you lock in online is what you are guaranteed to receive as long as the games you send in are complete/playable? I know they can reduce the value due to condition, but the Best Buy website doesn't specifically address the situation where the TIV drops between the time you lock in a value and when they actually receive it.

As long as you LOCK a trade, you're good for the price you're locked at. In the early days of BB trade in, I flipped a ton of stuff that dropped by them time they got mine. I got the locked price for all of it.

you get what you locked it in for as long as you send it within 4 weeks.
i.e. i locked in yakuza 4 for $38 almost a month ago. i got game for $40 at bestbuy.
i played so much of that game. now the tiv is fluctuating from $17-26, but i will get $38 cuz i sent it in yesterday. woot

i dont know why they would be giving lower tiv's instore, but just lock it in online. sw fu2 is still 25 and so is ps3 fo nv. woot
i did notice the bestbuytradein.com site is being strange lately, listing multiple titles of the same game same platform but with multiple upcs. argh. i just click them all and will send the game in with the slip, but it's kinda annoying.

Those are the alternate UPCs that amazon sends back as "wrong item"...best buy, gamestop, and target exclusives.

Just came back from Best Buy and can confirm that Medal of Honor does indeed still have the $25 TIV...just for anyone who might be wondering. Makes sense though, since MoH wasn't one of the titles people were abusing.

Well MoH has the same price as the trade in value at Gamestop - unless I'm missing something.

In regards to flipping: I enjoy doing it occasionally, especially when Amazon GC are at stake.

Man, I guess I'm lucky.

Traded in 3x NV and STFUII last night like an hour before they closed for $150 GC. Sucks that the TIV plummeted though. My local GameStops were completely out of both games used, lol.

One time when I went in to trade at bb, they all ignored me while I stood by customer service. After a few minutes I said rather loudly "is there a manager around here that actually cares about customers?"

One thought I was being rude, but she came over and helped me anyways.

Folks need to stop whining about flips, and just do their homework. Trade where you get the best deal. I don't understand why it isn't that straightforward to some people.

If I want to sell games, I would just go Ebay,Craigslist, etc way. No Homework needed. I am just stating fact. Flippers cause damage to current/future deals. Period. I just stated that I feel for the guy who actually owned the game, played the game, and tried to take it to a B&M expecting to get something decent for it only to find out they are getting a few dollars in store credit.

Can you confirm Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II for wii is $5.00? Because the other day I try to trade in fallout 3 GOTY for ps3, they try to give me $5 instead of $15 since the customer service think it is the normal version which is $5.00. Then it point out it is goty edition.

The thing that I find laughable is the notion that the flippers on CAG are the ONLY ones responsible for the trade values going down. Like there aren't SCORES of other people trading games in, THOUSANDS of other people on sites all over the internet that do this same shit.

Amazon's value on FO:NV dropped from $25 to $16 last week BEFORE the GS B2G1 started. What do you atribute that to? Maybe the fact that GS dropped the cost to $19 and Amazon themselves went to $39.99? How often do you get 62.5% of your trade in back on a year old game? That would be $37.50 on a $60 game - I don't think there was a SINGLE game on GS's big board today that got $37.50 - and that was including the brand new releases... And yet, that's what the trade in value was last week before Amazon dropped it.

Doesn't it follow reason that BB was going to drop the value quickly, as well, regardless of how many copies they got in? So why wouldn't you, if you had the game and wanted to trade it, take advantage of an artificially high trade value when it was available? People that are lazy or slow and then blame it on everyone else piss me off.

That sucks - mine had a passel of $50 and $25 cards today. I didn't do it yet because I want to see if there are other opportunities when GS does their second B2G1 during Power Days (if it happens)... I'd like to end up with a Squier RB guitar on the cheap...
i went to 3 bbs. unfortunately, they had actual kindles instead of cards. one even had a amazon kindle rep to answer questions.
The cards are usually on hanging hooks right by the Kindle display or somewhere in the vicinity. Although as some have stated some stores/states may have removed the Kindle gift cards.

thanks for the heads up on buying amazon kindle gift cards with best buy gift cards, will try that tomorrow.

I need to pay off portal 2 on amazon

bummer about the $9 TiV for fallout X360, glad i locked mine in.

Go back a few pages in this thread for the likely reason. People were trading in six copies of FO NV(3 for PS3 and 3 for 360) for $25 each within the last week or so, so the trade value was bound to drop at some point.
