i understand that this is big lots we are talking about. The caliber of employee may not be the highest, much less the caliber of shelving available for product, but damn the 2 big lots i went too were a disaster.

Impossible to search. A row of games placed Bookshelf style, and then behind that columns of games set like card file. Freaking impossible to search without breaking down and setting games everywhere. Any Big lots wonders why their stores look like hurricane country.

Gee, i wonder if they would sell more if they organized their stuff a bit. I might have bought Penumbra if I could find it. Maybe another game too. I was a broken man at the second store, scooped up the ViVA PINATA i found on the bottom row and bailed.

Orange County?
yeah thats why when i see a game on the updates im always hesitant about going to get it; cause they either dont have it or its lost amongst the rubble.

Thanks for the updates everyone. I scored a major hit at my Big Lots last night! Picked up Viva Pinata, The Club, Stranglehold, and Area 51 Blacksite. Now I just need a powerful enough computer to play all of these. :)
Gee, i wonder if they would sell more if they organized their stuff a bit.
Probably not. It's the customer base that really screws up everything... I've seen employees organize things only to have a customer mess everything up.

TESTIFY! Yep, fullerton, yorba linda, GuadaLaHabra. Norwalk are my haunts and its painful.

Actually, the best big lots ive found for games was in WHittier\Santa Fe Springs of all places. Store was fairly neat and had a huge selection last time I was there. It was like a bargain oasis in the middle of a not so great area. Im going to hit it this week to see what I find.
Jericho for $4? If i can manage to find it, that'd be worth it. Thanks for the head's up!
We sold Half Price Books 1000 copies of Jericho cheap too. They usually stock 12-20 per store. Hopefully you're close to one.

PCgirl:applause:

Puzzle Quest is one of the best, most addictive games I've ever played. I spent $15 on my DS copy, but I wouldn't have minded paying $50 considering how much use its gotten. I don't need a copy for my laptop, but for $6.....

Call me crazy, but I actually bought Safe Cracker 2 at full price when it came out a couple years back (and I had also played the original). Worth it, even for $19.99... so for you folks that want to work your brain a little, give Safe Cracker 2 a go! And for $6.00, even better...
Picked up for 4$ each:

(PC)
Just Cause
Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich

These any good? or are they not even worth the 4$?
No gamepad or widscreen support on Just Cause ruined it for me.

Both freedom force games were a lot of fun. Expect plenty of early comic book cheese mixed with TICK type sillyness. They are made to be over the top.
I wish i could find it at my big lots.

Freedom Force is like one of those top down RPG/strategy hybrids without the RPG factor and with a huge create-your-own-hero ability... well, I guess that is to say DOWNLOAD created heroes, but, hey, still awesome.

I kinda wish they had made stuff like throwing cars a bit less weak-sauce though.

With a keymapper or a Logitech gamepad + Wingman profiler, you can play any game with a gamepad.

Yeah but with driving games I really don't want to. Walking is bad enough, but forget steering + acceleration with digital buttons. The game was ported from consoles which is why I was so ticked they didn't do analog support.

Oh. When I saw that you wrote "gamepad", I didn't know that you included steering wheels into that definition.

On my way home from a college trip, I stopped by some kmarts and big lots. Nothing at the Kmarts but I did find one Big Lots with a stash :)

Picked up for 6.00
Psychonauts
Viva Pinata
Blacksite area 51

Saw
Club 6.00
Just Cause 4.00
Evidence: The Last Ritual 6.00??

*also kept the Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich but returned the Just Cause. Not a big fan of sandbox style games plus the reviews arn't so positive.

** QUESTION: Should I snag the psychonauts on steam for 4$ more? (for the steam benefits)

I checked the Big Lots near me last week and they had nothing. Well, they had a Tiger Woods game and a couple of cheapo casual games but other than that, nothing. The time before when I went they had probably 100+ games so I don't know what happened. I think they might have replaced games with previously viewed DVD's because they had a ton of those (which they didn't have before). I guess I'll have to drive across town and check the other store. I kind of want to snag the Club and Kane and Lynch just for GFWL. So sad....

Robophish - I don't think there really are any steam benefits for Psychonauts. There aren't any Steam achievements or anything. Good call returning Just Cause. I didn't care for it at all.

I was thinking more about the no DVD needed to start, can download on multiple computers, and downloading faster using the internet instead of DVD's.

Ah. I use no-cd/dvd patches for all my PC games so that's not really a factor for me. Steam is convenient, but if you already have the retail version, I probably wouldn't bother with the Steam version. It seems like Steam had Psychonauts on sale awhile ago for $5, so you could just wait for another sale.

Hey could I ask a really dumb question?

Does the version of Evidence being sold at Big Lots come with a manual or anything? I got a copy and it only has the disks and no shrink wrap covering the box.

The packaging on that game is really awesome. It's my first forray with an alternate reality type game.

Not a dumb question at all. A lot of the games sold at Big Lots seem to be games repackaged by a different vendor than the regular retail version (I could be wrong). It's possible they didn't include the manual to cut costs. If that's the case, there's a good chance that the manual is actually on the CD in some form (usually a PDF file). You could check that. That was the case when I bought Deus Ex from Big Lots a while back.

It was the lack of shrink wrap that caused me to worry when I got home.

A well I am sure I can hunt down a manual and the disks look mint.

Its been my experience that the games are all sealed, at least any that I have bought. Perhaps you bought a returned/opened copy? I think the one I saw in store yesterday was shrink-wraped.

DreamcastGuy - I just got back from my Big Lots and they had a copy of Evidence. It wasn't shrink-wrapped. It just had a circular sticker holding it closed and it didn't look like there was a manual inside.

Many of the minibox games at Big Lots and Half Price Books are like "reprints": just the CD and maybe a quickstart guide. But it depends on the publisher and manufacturer. Some games do come with a nice manual and stuff.

yeah, I have seen that as well on a few other games (that's how they are packaged I guess)

The previous postings are correct. Alot of the games put into Big Lots are "reprints". And money and time are saved by putting the manual on the CD. But in the case of Evidence, it's first run goods, and it was not shrinkwrapped. We bought it directly from Dreamcather. You'll be fine.

Many of the games at Half Price Books and Big Lots are fully licensed "reprints". But as the PC market weakens, we have not seen the need to participate in these reprints. There are enough genuine closeouts in the market at this point. It's always refreshing to pick up a game with a nice weight. You then know that pennies weren't saved on packaging. We think it makes them a little more collectable too.

Thanks for all the responses to my question!

I would have just looked at another copy of Evidence in the store but video games sell out at record pace at the local store.

My Big Lots has gotten a new shipment in and they are putting out this week.

As far as Pychonauts, the only bad thing about the boxed game is that it was copied on CD-ROM (or at least mine was). It was like a 5-disc install, which is a PITA. If you have an HDTV, that game looks friggin amazing in widescreen HD resolutions. Blows away the xbox and PS2 versions.

Continuing on the Evidence subject, I bought my copy when it was new. It didn't have a tyypical shrinkwrap on it. Instead, it was in a bag that gave it the appearance that it was actually police evidence. Also, the fourth/play disc should say that it included the PDF manual.
PCGirl, I noticed a few new titles at Five Below. Anything we should be on the lookout for?
