CAG NFL Season Discussion

The Ravens tweeting the comments really put it over the top. You'd think the moment that press conference was over, the team would want to pretend it never happened...

Damn, I didn't know the severity of the injury before, but I guess Lee did tear his ACL and will miss the season. He has the worst luck. This is his left knee. He apparently tore his right ACL when he was at Penn State.

Niners extend Kap for six years (signed til 2020), "$110 mil" with $61 mil guarantees. Good stuff. As the payday of QBs go he has the record contract for now until the next big QB signs, then the next one, etc.

Now they got to make sure they extend Harbaugh.

This is getting to be absolutely bananas, first Flacco and now Kaepernick.  I'm not saying either of them isn't good, but they aren't top paid players in the NFL good.

He's not in the same class as Brees, Manning, Brady and Rodgers but if a team thinks it has a franchise QB it has to pay him like one. No way he gets less than Romo's deal and each QB contract will just be more expensive than the next. Newton's, Luck's and even Wilson's contract will make Kap's look like a bargain.

Yeah all the QB contracts are a load anymore and most of them are structured in way to where the team can easily get restructured in 3 years to keep the player and keep caps down. Flacco literally had the team bent over as he had just gotten a SB win and, even though I'm a big fan of the Ravens and Flacco, a completely bullshit MVP award. If the Ravens didn't pay him someone else was going to pay him big money.

That's a good reminder about Romo, I think he was pretty much the catalyst for this out of control QB salaries. As soon as he got ridiculous money every other QB was going, "well he'll, I'm better than him, I should definitely get more"

NFL officially drops the Roman numerals, at least for Super Bowl 50 (L). Though they are suppose to go back to the Roman numeral scheme, I think they will likely consider also going with the Arabic numerals again in the near future, especially for Super Bowl 59 (LIX).

Kaep's deal actual only 13 million guaranteed. They can cut him before April 1 any season and no longer owe anything. Steal of a deal for the Niners. Baalke is a fucking wizard.

Quite the deal. Unless we win the Super Bowl this year, I hope the Panthers and Cam take a note from this playbook.

Wow, that's actually a significantly different deal than it initially appeared to be. That gives the Niners all the power in the contract...

If he doesn't win the Super Bowl or make the All-Pro at QB (he won't) his base salary decreases by $2 million.

It's almost a bad deal for Kaepernick, but he's such a hard worker, and I don't expect them to move on from him in 6 years, so he should make about $90 million or so, which obviously isn't a bad deal.

He doesn't have to win the Super Bowl he just has to win the NFC title game and take 80% of both regular season and playoff snaps or make either of the All Pro teams to stop the losing of the 2 mil. They might as well just call it a $2 mil per year, super bowl appearance bonus.

I think this is a good deal for both Kaep and the Niners. Kaep is gambling on himself to keep getting better and until he gets the team back to the Super Bowl, the team gets an extra 2 mil to resign players or sign free agents to help the team get there. Also he most likely didn't take every penny he could have so that helps the team.

Press release from the team says it changes nothing.

I do think people can legally make merchandise with the team name without their permission now.

I think?

The NFL will appeal the decision (the TM won't be canceled until all appeals have been exhausted) but if all else fails they'll force the Redskins to change their name. The NFL won't risk endangering their current licensing agreements.

Now I'm seeing even if they lose all appeals they could still sue people selling unlicensed merchandise under Common Law.

I don't understand why the team is so hellbent on keeping the name.

Some people, typically rich or with means, don't want to be told what to do and will stand up for their beliefs. Personally I disagree with the team's position but I've seen clients blow millions just to prove a point.

EDIT: Sorry, I should have clarified something in my earlier post. The TM won't expire until all appeals have been exhausted.

Jimmy Graham's Twitter "bio" could cost him over $5 million. The NFL presented Graham's Twitter account as evidence in the arbitration hearing to decide to whether he is a TE or WR.

First of all. He's a tight-end, if his twitter says it or not. Do linebackers in the 3-4 say they are a lineman if it benefits them under the franchise tag? The whole thing is stupid.

I believe this is the only position that this can be argued about. He played 67 percent of his snaps at a position where a wr would line up. That's a lot of snaps, most tight ends line up right next to the tackle. He lines up at the slot or a wider position for 67 percent of the snaps. Just because he is called a tight end doesn't mean he cant be paid like a WR. The word slot is what will need to be defined in these meetings. I believe he deserves to be paid WR money. He puts up elite WR numbers and lines up at a WR position almost 70 percent of the time, so stop being cheap fucks and give him the deal he wants and this whole thing goes away. He only filed a complaint with the NFLPA cause he wants a new deal.

Agreed. I just found it humorous that the NFL is using his own Twitter against him.

He's a TE. As the NFL also pointed out in their argument, yes, he lines up 67% of the time in non-traditional TE spots, but that means he's still on line 33% of the time, something a wide receiver would never do.

Where he got pulled is kind of fucked. It goes from 45 to 35 and no one slows down. He got bailed out by the guy PJ Hairston was running around with. Hanging with a dude who goes by fats is a bad idea.

Edit: Raleigh has been on a DWI kick lately too. This year they have almost doubled the amount of arrests compared to the same period last year.

^none of this matters if he was over the limit and driving. He's already facing a year suspension. It's just incredibly stupid.

Ray Rice gets a two game suspension for knocking out his girl. I'm not sweating the Aldon Smith suspension now since he shouldn't get any games for hitting a tree . Also lets remember that smoking weed gets you a year suspension.

I thought it was going to be 4 games, myself. I guess his cooperation and his lack of prior record helped in that. Also, IIRC, his GF isn't pressing charges or pushing the case any.

The other two all had prior entanglements.

Big Ben got 6 games (reduced to 4) for being ACCUSED of rape. No charges were ever filed. There is video of Rice dragging her lifeless body out of an elevator. What a disgrace. John Harbaugh should be ashamed of himself, as well.

Remember when Roger Goodell was a hard ass that handed out swift penalties for these sorts of transgressions? I guess it's true that he really doesn't want to hand out severe penalties any more unless his hand is forced, like for repeat offenders. This would have been a good time to show that they don't tolerate violence against women, especially from their players. Two games off just means that he can be in really good shape for their third game and hopefully not be too worn down at the end of the season. At least one of the Ravens' rookies seems to get it.

Do you know what happened inside the elevator? Because all we know for sure (unless you know something we don't) is that he dragged her outside the elevator. She could have passed out from being too drunk or he could have been restraining her (i.e. headlock) and she passed out.

She's not cooperating. The casino never released the footage. They're now married.

Let's "beat up" on sports stars but let all the degenerates (and there are many) in entertainment (Music, movies, etc.) get a free pass and continue to work.

Who the fuck is giving a pass to any other "degenerates"? This is the NFL thread...so the discussion is about happenings in the NFL.

Everyone who is saying he should have been suspended for a THIRD of the fuckING season is giving a pass to degenerates in other industries that see no backlash or in other sports that see very little backlash (Jason Kidd, Jared Sullinger, Allen Iverson, etc.)

...wow...

If nothing wrong happened at all, why did Rice apologize? Why didn't his wife clear everything up? He knocked her out cold. End of story.
