CAG NFL Season Discussion

Well, that's what I mean...if Indians, Braves, etc. are acceptable because they're "not derrogatory names", then yeah...the Warriors idea works...and at least the team keeps 95% of its identity. Seriously, the city's basketball team changed its name from the Bullets because they realized it was kind of irresponsible in an area known for its problems with crime. I tell ya, for the nation's capital, they sure did a shitty job naming the sports teams, lol

As for the cartoony Cleveland logo...that's where it starts to turn into a slippery slope for me. It's not like they depict him holding a bottle of whiskey or welcoming you to a casino (see, now [customspoiler='this']
chief-runs-with-premise.jpg
[/customspoiler]would be offensive, lol). A lot of sports logos (and especially mascots) are goofy and cartoony.

For that matter, any team named the Mountaineers (like my alma mater, haha) should have to change its logo/mascot/name if any of those mountain people actually had internet and knew how to file a petition, lol. If the only way they're comfortable with the logo is to make it very basic and boring, then the team shouldn't be named after them.
You're a Mountaineer?

Hope they stink it up less this year.

Curious how the Cards will use John Brown and how he'll do in the Season. Saw bit of the first pre-season game and he looked decent, and been hearing goods things about on local radio.

Yes

He can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he means Appalachian State.
Yes

burritoman's statement applies to App as well.
Haha, very true. The football team definitely went downhill after Armanti Edwards graduated. It'll be interesting seeing how they do with the jump to FCS. Of course, as soon as my freaking college changes conferences/divisions, to where they'd finally be included in an EA NCAA football game...there is no more NCAA football game. :wall:

My God. The penalties are going to be the thing that kills much of the fun that there is to be had this season. I hope this is just an issue for the pre-season and that it'll get better when it counts, but I have a feeling this season's them is going to be about giving the offense every single chance to keep going and score. A five yard penalty that also gives a first down is ridiculous.

You can blame both IMO. Goodell wants as much offense as possible but Seattle has been raping teams for 3 years in the secondary.

Michael Sam sacked Johnny Manziel. Every single head in Bristol, CT just exploded trying to come up with stories to fill all the airtime that will be devoted to that one play.

Sam Bradford wants to become the Kevin Nash of the NFL... Except Nash never made the kind of money Bradford gets for sitting at home. Hopefully he's released and the Rams can find a QB. This sucks.

If anyone wants to Join a 5$ Entry Fantasy Football league, send me a PM on here. I'm the Commish of one on NFL.com and I need members. We're looking for 10-14 members.

Bucs traded TE/WR Tim Wright and an undisclosed (rumored 4th round) draft pick to the Patriots for Logan Mankins.

Good trade for both, IMO. Tim Wright is expected to fill the TE void left by Aaron Hernandez, and Mankins will beef up the line and help some of the young guys there.

Later report near the end of July revealed that Gordon had tested positive for marijuana, but that the level of THC metabolites were 16 nanograms per millimeter (barely over 16.01 parts per billion) in one of his samples and above the league's absurdly low threshold of 15 ng/ml to consist of a "positive."

That threshold is higher than any other major sport, including the very strict IOC, which stands at 175 ng/ml. Even air traffic controllers can have a level up to 50.

Roger Goodell wrote a letter to NFL owners about their new rules, policies, and programs about domestic violence and sexual assault. Here's the part about the new standard for penalties:

Effective immediately, violations of the Personal Conduct Policy regarding assault, battery, domestic violence or sexual assault that involve physical force will be subject to a suspension without pay of six games for a first offense, with consideration given to mitigating factors, as well as a longer suspension when circumstances warrant. Among the circumstances that would merit a more severe penalty would be a prior incident before joining the NFL, or violence involving a weapon, choking, repeated striking, or when the act is committed against a pregnant woman or in the presence of a child. A second offense will result in banishment from the NFL; while an individual may petition for reinstatement after one year, there will be no presumption or assurance that the petition will be granted. These disciplinary standards will apply to all NFL personnel.

I have my doubts that the public would have been satisfied with a Ray Rice 6 game suspension.
I think you are right but it's a step in the right direction. Plus, let's remember that we are talking about Goodell here... the man just doesn't give a fuck. He's a modern day dictator.

Could be a lot of angry "ex-housewives" claiming (domestic) abuse or using it as leverage to punish former husband/baby fathers etc.

Does the player have to be charged? Or just accused?

Wasn't Hope Solo just charged for domestic abuse against a sister/nephew a few weeks ago? I remember it because that week I saw her face plastered all over Nike billboards when I was in Ocean City for vacation

I don't think they're going to just start suspending people without looking into what happened.

Modern day dictator? He has the power over nothing but a game lol. He runs it as he sees fit considering he is the CEO of an entertainment industry.

I was being facetious in using the term dictator in relation to Goodell but I'm certainly not the first one to do so. Here are a few links to get you started.

Peyton Manning notified by NFL he is fined $8,200 for taunting of DJ Swearinger. No appeal. Peyton: "I accept it. Money well spent."

Yeah he managed to piss Peyton off quite a bit. Bad hit too.

NFL trying to make up for the wrist slap on Ray Rice with yesterdays PR memo and over punishing Aldon Smith. Goodell said that they would take Smith's missing 5 games for rehab into account but I guess Rice fucked that up.

They broke it down to 4 games substance abuse and 5 for conduct.

On the brightside, he'll be back in time and be well rested to face Seattle.

Do you think he can stay out of trouble until his suspension is over?

Yes. He went to rehab for his drinking so hopefully he has that under control now. The other stuff isnt a problem.

He should have gotten 5 games since he voluntarily missed 4 already for his rehab stint. 9 games still 3 more than the new first time domestic offense. Please.

Since the RBs that the Browns cut tend to do well on their new team, keep an eye out for Dion Lewis in your fantasy leagues. Bobby Rainey and Fozzy Whitaker are the two previous guys that they cut that have done well, with Fozzy mostly being this pre-season.

Hope Solo 911 Call:

You must not listen to Jim Rome. Best 911 call I have heard in a long time.

Well we have our first 6-game ban under new rules.

@newsdamian: BREAKING: Sources: #49ers DL Ray McDonald popped for domestic violence. Confirming with Niners.

Unreal.

You should have looked at the name of the person who posted that before you replied...

We are half way there. Just wait until the social media outrage starts to pour in.

I'm expecting the Michael Sam crowd to come in large and proud Tuesday morning once they sober up from whatever distractions they are involved in this holiday weekend.

Cowboys had a press conference to announce the signing of a practice squad player. I wonder if they have the same PR firm as the Jets.
