[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Son of a... well the year end club nintendo email came for me and it's worse than last year... I have 4,370 points expiring this time around. Last year I had to waste points on a bunch of junk as nothing is ever restocked.
Buy me the Yoshi accessory box and blue Animal Crossing pouch and I'll pay you $20.

That he just resold because he paid for those free points, oh snap!
Well, if he wants to count that as reselling. His other options are to let the points disappear or buy stuff he isn't interested in and take up space somewhere.

Granted, this is probably all moot because I'm pretty sure I'm on his ignore list.

I don't believe in reselling. At all. I despise it.
Sounds like you're going to be throwing away a lot of games (in the trash), giving them away, or hoarding them forever. I don't understand why you don't "believe in" reselling games. You know that you can trade them in right? Are you aware that eventually they stop making all games? So if you have 100 games in boxes taking up room in your closet and you know for a fact that you'll never play them again, many of them could be out of print (meaning the developer will no longer "lose a sale") and you could dump them with a clear conscious. At some point you'll realize the failing of your ways.

I see this around a lot, what does it mean?

Also: does anyone know if the nintendoland bundled with a controller comes with club nintendo points? I thought only the version bundled with wii u didn't come with points.
It means you talk just like "I Am The Cheapest Gamer" (IATCG). He lived in PA if I remember correctly and drove around to all kinds of stores. He talked about how poor he was and how he would never do anything that would cost money like buy a better TV. A claim that you don't "like" HD is completely absurd, everyone "likes" HD. If you put your TV next to an HDTV and play the same Xbox 360 game on both you'll most certainly "like" HD. Also, HDTV's are not all that expensive any more. Not sure what size range you'd look for but this Samsung is pretty fucking cheap.

IATCG got banned from the site (I have no clue what it was for). Your posts look exactly like his - almost like you're him with a new account. That's probably why you see that a lot.

Better to just throw it all into the void then.
Better to just let meaningless points expire than order junk I don't want and have to waste time reselling is the way I look at it.

I sell games after beating so I'm not opposed to reselling completely like the other guy. I just have no interest in acquiring things just to resell or flip for trade ins etc. I like finding deals and saving money on games like all CAGs, but I'm not hurting for money (nor rolling in it) so I have no interest in reselling/flipping type stuff. My time is far more valuable than money these days.

Well, that would be true if not for the downloadable games you can get.

If your points are gonna expire, why not use them on a bunch of downloadable games they're offering? Then you can either sell the codes, dump them in thread, or use them for yourself. Best part is they take up 0 room. :p

I mean, hell, if you're feeling generous, I'll take a code for Mario Golf.

You're not.

Your analogy is spot on. Let me clarify: I loathe reselling in the sense where bottom feeders redeem for things en masse, such as the gold nunchuk from a while back, with the sole intention of selling them, clearing out inventory and taking those away from people who really wanted it just to make a few bucks.

Last year I only had about 1,000 points expiring. This year is a lot, biggest drop yet. Sure I could have redeemed for the Luigi statue or the Yoshi shirt though I have no interest in those, and I'm not going to redeem for them and take it away from someone who would really want it.

Well, I refer you to the solution I gave the other guy. You can redeem all the download codes you want.. and it doesn't take the availability away from anyone, as digital goods are not finite. :bouncy: I appreciate that you are nice enough to consider availability for others, at least.

Because I wouldn't play them. I'm not much into Nintendo stuff. Sold my Wii U, and will probably ditch my 3DS soon.

And sure on the code, as I have coins expiring. I'll PM you the Mario Golf code in second.

Really? Awesome. I have Mario Tennis 64 on my Wii, but not Golf. That would be great as I'm currently only sitting on five coins.

Only for BobbyTastic as I only had 200 some coins expiring. :D

If I end up selling my 3DS soon, I still have 400 some coins left and would happily buy some reward games for CAGs at that point though rather than just letting the coins rot (doubt I'll ever buy another Nintendo platform).

May I ask why? My old school wii collects dust (as 99% of them out there do), and I have no interest in the wii u. I do enjoy my 3DS though with Animal Crossing and Bravely Default, plus a handful of other games, and the streetpass feature is pretty nifty as well.

I've played all the games out that interest me, and there's currently not a single announced game that is a must play for me. I'm waiting until after E3 though to see if they announce a new Metroid or something.

For me, it's I'm just not much into Nintendo stuff anymore beyond some nostalgia. I don't like platfomers much anymore, I'm burnt out on Zelda, I never really cared for the MP focused stuff like Mario Kart and Smash. These days I'm more into story driven shooters, WRPGs, Uncharted/Assassin's Creed/Infamous style games and that stuff. Which Nintendo just doesn't do obviously.

I enjoyed my 3DS well enough last year with Mario 3D Land (wasn't sick of platformers yet), ALBW, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem etc. But just don't care about this years game line up at all, and I got a Vita recently that gets all my portable game time with the PS+ freebies and stuff like Tearaway and P4G.

Ah I see. Welp, don't have a car so definetely not driving around to every store. Don't even have a license. (And before I get to the rest of your comments, I meant I see that comment around the site a lot, not directed at me).

My parents have HDTV's, I've played games on there. It's just a waste of money for me, I love my "crappy" tv & the better picture quality on video games doesn't interest me. It's the worst picture quality on all my favorite old movies & old games that does. Put in an old Disney movie, & it looks like shit on HD. So in order to not make it look that way, you spend money on these digitally enhanced versions of old movies but it really will never look right because it wasn't meant to be on that screen & re-buying all my favorite movies on DVDs is more money down the drain.
And not to mention those TVs are so unstable on those plastic little stands...my cat would break it in a heart beat. Push it off my crappy tv stand. Can't put it on the wall either because we rent this place. So it's just a waste, for me.

That nearly $500 price tag is way too much for me, I'd rather buy a laptop finally (which is why I don't have an Xbox one). The second one is pretty affordable though if I were to save up for a few months. Although it wouldn't be affordable after my cat broke it, just more money down the drain.
So basically, to do what I already do on my regular tv it would cost me a lot more than the cost of just the tv. And that's why I don't like them. Sure it makes my newer games look a bit better, & sports look awesome on HD picture but I don't need it for my movies or regular programs.

EDIT: had a mishap with the mobile submit button.

$200-$400 might be cheap for a HDTV, but that doesn't make it 'cheap'. I personally don't have that kind of money to spend on a TV. That's not to say I couldn't save up for it, but it's not the kind of thing that's a priority. Of course, there's also the fact that I have seen HD ruin a few scenes in various movies for me because it enhanced details that detracted from the video. I don't need HD to enjoy my games, and so I do not have an HDTV. It would be a waste of money which I could better spend on video games or maybe a new console.

As long as someone is having fun playing games, that's all that matter IMO.

I couldn't imagine living with a big HDTV personally. I love it for movies, games, sports, TV etc. Everything is better on a nice, big HDTV screen IMO.

But hey, if others enjoy games just fine on old SDTVs, and/or are just broke and can't afford a decent HDTV, nothing wrong with that.

The new consoles are HDMI output only and converting from HDMI to component video requires an expensive adapter (many of which don't even work as you would expect). At that point he might as well buy a new TV. While I do agree with you, I assume this means he's not planning on moving to next gen as the expensive new console + the new TV would be ungodly expensive for him. Considering that these HDTV prices are still falling, I'd have to assume we'll be seeing $200 large screen TV's and sub $100 smaller 20ish inch TV's come black friday this year. At that point I'm not sure what more he could consider "cheap". I admit that I never thought we'd see larger TV's as these prices but it's hard for me to imagine a 50" HDTV for like 20 bucks.

Well of course to that. Anyone that doesn't have an HDTV should probably skip the PS4 and X1 until the upgrade TVs first of course.

Nothing wrong with sticking in past gen for a while though--tons of great games released and no way anyone played most of them--much less all of them.

Also, there's always Wii U too--doesn't that have a component cable option at least? And portables of course. And PC gaming. :D So lots of ways to play newer games without an HDTV still.

Cheapest actually ended up getting an HD monitor and apologized for his constant claims about how HD didn't make a difference.

He was banned because he was a huge troll and never really stopped after multiple warnings and temp bans from the mods.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that he doesn't have a gaming PC as spending a lot of money on that would seem to me to make less sense than buying a new TV which at least you can enjoy while watching TV or blu ray in addition to gaming and do it with other people. Then again who knows?

I just checked my Wii U, it's got a port called "multi A/V". I believe that's for component/composite video so he could go that route, you're right. It looks like the same shape that the original Wii attachment had so it might use that. If not or if he didn't have a Wii then he'd have to buy that cable because the console comes with an HDMI cable.

Wow he got one? I had no idea. So officially a different person then. Back when HD was new and TV's were well over $2,000 for small screens, I heard so many people saying it made no difference. This guy is the first person I think I've seen online making the claim in years now.

I disagree, but as someone who doesnt have cable, I do recommend a HDTV for a bedroom. I'm running out of DVDs to watch at night.
Netflix is $8/month for the streaming service and the streams are in 1080p with 5.1 surround sound.

Exactly. Money spent towards a tv I don't really need, because I already have one & love it, could be spent towards a number of things I actually want & would love. These new consoles forcing me to upgrade don't mean I have to upgrade yet. Especially if I need to put $200 on top of that $400 or $500 price mark. Plus all the money it would cost to get those digitally enhanced dvds of movies I already own & a better stand so my cat won't break it. No thanks.
Took me 8 months to save up for a wii u alone (I work on commission) & thanks to people getting rid of their wii component cables I'm able to enjoy it on my tv or my parents HD tv when they want to play it.

If you are even remotely serious about playing video games, you should have an HDTV.
I also disagree. Where in my console manuals can I find "an HD TV is required to enjoy [insert console name] here"?

And to the PC comments, no I don't own a PC. I use my parents. Not very into PC gaming besides the occasional steam & MMO games.
I mainly use my computer for work related things & drawing.
But anyway, when the price of the newer systems fall & I start to see $100 prices on some HD TVs then I will consider upgrading but still keep my old fat back SD TV for old school NES/SNES/Atari gaming & SD DVDs/VHS tapes.

I see, you're living with your parents. Are you a teenager or college kid working at Sears electronics or something?

I was about to make another arguement that would have made the HDTV make more sense but since you're not paying the bills you probably don't give a shit. That point is that you're probably paying at least $40 a year on the electricity for a tube TV while the electricity used by modern LED HDTV's is roughly $5/year assuming 10hrs/day.

I didn't realize you were living with your parents. I'm assuming you're in high school or college. If you were paying your own bills then it would matter more because a tube TV used roughly 10 hours a day costs $40 a year in electricity while a modern LED HDTV costs only about $5 if run 10 hours a day. Huge difference and that's comparing a 32" tube to a 55" LED.

College.
Utitlity is included in our rent but, I'd say I'm using the tv about...4-5 hours or less. I don't have the time to game for too long on tvs between work, projects, & studies.

EDIT:
And more on topic: the classic super Mario t-shirt & super Mario accessory box are now sold out.

The thread about something, that isn't about that something, which is about something else.
If this thread was actually about Club Nintendo all the time, then it would either be dead or have endless battles about how good should a [insert your feelings in regard of price] program be. Needless to say, I don't mind the HDTV talk as it's still better than the on-topic posts.

Fwiw, I use a flatscreen monitor. It doesn't support HDMI though, just component and composite. Don't think it'll even support s-video. And the speakers that come with it only play in mono. It's a real bitch to hook stuff up to.

Sure I could have redeemed for the Luigi statue or the Yoshi shirt though I have no interest in those, and I'm not going to redeem for them and take it away from someone who would really want it.
it´s a shame that BECAUSE of all the people RESELLING CLUB NINTENDO ITEMS, i think, CLUB NINTENDO DOES NOT GIVE GOOD ITEMS FOR THE COINS in north america.

As opposed to the people in other regions reselling them, a large portion of which are resold to us here because we don't get nice stuff?

what i wanted to say it´s that the market here is so much bigger than other regions, there are clear sigs of that, for example 3ds cradles in europe lasted for days, in north america it took minutes, maybe a couple of hours for the items to disssapear.

true but they also get bigger and nicer items then us to begin with

I can't remember if I have Super Mario World on the Wii or not. If I do then it's cheap on Wii U and I'd opt to get it that way. If not I'll buy that for 200 coins.

I used to have a 26" vizio LED tv for my bedroom, was really happy with it, looked great.

Then I decided to upgrade and got a 50" panny plasma (right before they went out of stock everywhere) for my bedroom.. I still use my 26" for retro games but its a huge difference. So much more immersive.
