[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here.

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I probably already have Paper Mario but if not I might have gotten every game this month (except probably Metal Torrent). I'll probably get Kid Icarus for my son, and DK Jr. for the Wii U.

The value of the coins is subjective and even I think of them as different values in different contexts. But since they started putting up VC games I tend to think of them that way. That is, 200 coins is worth roughly $5-$7 (depending on whether they are offering NES or SNES games).

But then if you go by eBay you can see that the Kirby medals have gone for $50-$75. I forget how many coins those were but obviously the value there was much higher. So really it is pointless to argue value but I think the VC games provide a decent baseline at least.
You can't really count those. They were 600 coins, but they were also limited to only 1,000 total medals. You are paying for rarity almost exclusively. Has nothing to do with coin amount.

So all the wii/wii u games are actually only available in the wii mode of the wii u right?

Not a big fan of that myself just make them wii u enable .... ;-)
Yeah, and sadly it ends up with me not playing them very often. I still get them if the interest me though because if they do get released on WiiU VC then the upgrade price is minimal.

makes me want to sell mine with my spare Kirby collection game :|

also anyone know the best controller to buy to use for N64 VC since Wii U Pro don't work. Looks for classic pro on amazon and it's all 3rd party :(

I'd love to agree with you but being realistic.. look how many knockoffs are floating around of the 2010 statue. Kirby medals are just knocked off as well. And since MOST of them use the molds used for the original run, it's harder than hell to tell if it's a knockoff or not.....

Oh yeah, I know - I was just using that as one extreme (with the other being people selling hundreds of coins for a buck or two). The point was you really can't put an exact (or even approximate) value on the coins. They are also worth more when special items are in the shop (say, unlike now) and also probably worth more towards the end of the club year when people are looking to top off their accounts for gold or platinum status.

Interesting - I was not aware of the knockoffs.

Full disclosure: I sold mine a few months ago for $67 shipped. It saw it on my desk amongst the clutter and when I looked into what they were going for I could not justify it just sitting there and collecting dust. In effect I exchanged it for a brand new game (say, Mario Kart 8) which was a much better use of the coins ;).

Yea, the statues are the worst, but I think that's specifically because of the sale prices. I was looking up info on one and I stumbled on a wholesaler selling them for about $10 a piece shipped if you ordered 20. Looking closely, the paint kinda looks like a statue that was bumped around but the telltale is that it doesn't come with the cube box (which I'm sure is easily made).

After reading all these club Nintendo eBay discussions, I decided to see what people try to sell this stuff for. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161238145719&alt=web It's annoying that he hoarded all that.

Why is that annoying? I have just as many, if not more, goodies from Nintendo. I have at least five of the poster sets, for instance.

Lol, for all you know he was collecting them.

I don't see why one would be annoyed.
What these guys said, that isn't even close to hoarding. I've probably gotten 3 times as many things from CN over the past few years and they're all just a part of my collection.

Besides, 4 of those items didn't even cost him any coins... It'd actually be pretty easy to obtain enough coins to nab all of that stuff over a couple of years, which is probably what he did.

Woah! Wasn't expecting all that reaction out of it. It seemed like a lot to me, and was expensive for a bunch of free stuff. Seeing all that reminded me of people that redeem their coins on items they don't really want just to sell online, which takes away from people who do want those things. Hence my annoyance.
Why did you list them in a bundle? You could probably get more from a bunch of people looking for individual things (such as the uncommonly sold OoT OST) than selling them all in 1 bundle.
It's not my listing, I just found it on eBay.

Ehhhh... Paper Mario, ok, but gotta go through the wii mode to play it? That's stupid. Not the worst month ever, not by a long shot, but meh. With the thousands of games they could offer, they *could* do better, if they were so inclined.

Yeah, the hope for some of these is that they will add them to the Wii U VS at some point and then you'll just have a cheap upgrade. But it is pretty disturbing that they haven't gotten any N64 games on the Wii U yet. I don't know what the holdup is on those.

Picked up Paper Mario, I don't have it, or at least I don't think I have it. If I have it, the cartridge battery is probably dead anyways, which would require me to send it out for repair which would cost more money then getting a digital copy of Paper mario for essentially free. What else am I going to do with all these coins, and lots more incoming. I need to start spending them before they expire.

I'd be interested in Paper Mario if it was for Wii U instead of having to go through Wii mode...I'm not a programmer so maybe I'm just ignorant but how hard can it be to get these games to work on Wii U?

I think it's the fact of getting the games to work with the snapshot feature along with other things.

I bought Lego Hobbit new from Best Buy and there was no code inside. Is it common for games not to have codes? I thought all 3DS games had codes?

You can mostly thank the coin expiration date for that happening. Years ago, I had quite a few leftover coins that were hitting the dumper within the month, so I ordered 3 of the large mushroom tote bags to sell on eBay. Oddly enough, one person bought them all. I didn't see that coming...

Still weird and disappointing that so many WiiU games don't have CN codes when I can't even think of a 3DS game I've bought that hasn't had one.

In other news Kid Icarus is pleasantly challenging and quite fun so far.

I just wish it made sense at times. Like I bought Monster Hunter on the Wii U and 3DS and only got coins from the 3DS version. I bought Sonic for the Wii U too, but no code, though I hear the 3DS version had one.

The odd thing too is that a good handful of games(monster hunter for wii u included) downloaded from the eshop yield club nintendo coins even though their physical counterpart do not, IIRC.

Almost everything, if not everything, gives coins from the eShop. I would imagine it's most likely part of their push towards digital.

This actually makes sense to me for a couple of reasons. The first is that purchasing auto redeems the Club Nintendo voucher, so you can't buy a game digitally and sit on the code until you need it. The next reason is that it gives Nintendo a better idea why people go digital. Like if you got one of the MK 8 games, you might have noticed that a number of survey questions were geared towards figuring out why someone bought the game digitally (or maybe Nintendo was just surprised someone knew the eShop existed, hard to say...). This is also, as EldritchOnRye said, a nice incentive to go digital. There might even be some other / future plans, such as using using this as a backdoor way to get user reviews for the eShop or something along those lines, but for many reasons it makes sense.

Just bought Kid Icarus last week when trying to make platinum, though it turned out I miss calculated and didn't need it.  I'm not complaining really, just would have been nice to actually have something spend some of those coins on.  The only thing I've ever wanted to redeem for coins on club nintedo was the gold nunchuk and even that still sitting in the shipping box it came it.

I remember that prize was the reason I joined club nintendo but I fell a little short of the coins I needed for it. Once I finally had enough it went out of stock.

Does anyone know if games bought with coins give you credit for the digital deluxe promotion?  I'm  7 points away from a $5 gift card and would buy Kid Icarus if it meant that I would get the gift card.

They do... well at least it did for Super Metroid a while back. I assume it has to be one that is redeemed in the Wii U store (This month is Donkey Kong Jr.)

Ah, you're right, I forgot that it had to be Wii U only...shoot, I really don't want to spend coins on Donkey Kong Jr. Looks like I'll be getting Earthbound then.

I'd be interested in Paper Mario if it was for Wii U instead of having to go through Wii mode...I'm not a programmer so maybe I'm just ignorant but how hard can it be to get these games to work on Wii U?
A Nintendo 64 emulator would have to be written for Paper Mario, for one.

Then someone probably has to sit down and play through the game a few times to make sure there aren't any bugs or crashes that occur.

Then they have to test all the additional Wii U stuff, like screenshot taking, save states, button mapping, and whatnot.

It's probably a fair bit of work, I would imagine.

I remember that prize was the reason I joined club nintendo but I fell a little short of the coins I needed for it. Once I finally had enough it went out of stock.
You could just buy or trade for the gold nunchuck. Many CAG's still have theres. I know I have a couple lying around.

I actually have the Gold Wii Remote from the Skyward Sword Collector's Edition, the Gold Classic Controller from the Goldeneye 007 Limited Edition, and the Gold Nunchuck from Club Nintendo.

I've never really used them, and I've been super-tempted to throw them up on eBay as I've seen the remote alone go for ridiculous amounts.

Still weird and disappointing that so many WiiU games don't have CN codes when I can't even think of a 3DS game I've bought that hasn't had one.

In other news Kid Icarus is pleasantly challenging and quite fun so far.
What sent me for a loop was that Ninja Gaiden 3 actually had one. Turns out Nintendo did the publishing duties on that one

You need to buy it for Wii U for it to count, I believe.
This. Redeeming a prepaid voucher ill also qualify for the purchased price of the sale. 3ds games do not qualify for this, only for Wii U

Has anyone played Metal Torrent? I know it's been offered at least once on CN.

I also missed out on the nunchuk, so I went to ebay. Who wants to pay $90-$150 for a nunchuk? I just can't justify spending that kind of money on such a thing, even if it is so rare.
Eventually I bit the bullet anyway, snagged an auction for $65 in near perfect condition but still I feel I overpayed. Even figuring the coin amount (which is a significantly higher amount). It just bothers me how many people have these sitting around, collecting dust when others actually wanted to use them. The one I bought came so dirty & dusty, this guy must have just had it sitting in a drawer.

Mine just sat wrapped in the foam, in the box it came in. I was waiting for the day I could get my hands on a matching wiimote before unpacking it. That day never came and I ended up ebaying it last year...
