[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

most eshop downloads get you coins (direct money in Nintendo's pocket). I have noticed that if the psychical game doesn't have the Nintendo logo on the front you are 99.9999% unlikely to get a code.  I don't even bother to think anything is without a Nintendo logo will net me a code.

The One Piece games and most Atlus games have codes as well.

What sent me for a loop was that Ninja Gaiden 3 actually had one. Turns out Nintendo did the publishing duties on that one

You could just buy or trade for the gold nunchuck. Many CAG's still have theres. I know I have a couple lying around.

I also missed out on the nunchuk, so I went to ebay. Who wants to pay $90-$150 for a nunchuk? I just can't justify spending that kind of money on such a thing, even if it is so rare.
Eventually I bit the bullet anyway, snagged an auction for $65 in near perfect condition but still I feel I overpayed. Even figuring the coin amount (which is a significantly higher amount). It just bothers me how many people have these sitting around, collecting dust when others actually wanted to use them. The one I bought came so dirty & dusty, this guy must have just had it sitting in a drawer.
This is exactly the reason I haven't obtained one yet. I feel it is wicked overpriced and I don't feel it's worth it to throw $100 at it. So unless one is offered to me for like $50-$60 I'm ok going without. And even that I feel is high but it is a rare item and it was expensive coin-wise so I'd pay that much. It would be nice to go with my 2 gold wiimotes and 2 gold classic controllers though (which makes me want 2 gold nunchuks.......... :wall: ).

Never played any Kid Icarus game.  I'm guessing this would be a good way to jump into the series?  And this would probably be the best version to play as I have coins clanking around?

Well the old NES and GB game are very different from the 3DS version. If you're going to check out an old version this is the definitive one though and I'm finding it surprisingly fun.

Has anyone every had a code not work? Just registered Bravely Default and it didn't go through. I bought the game brand new and sealed from Target. Typed in the code and it sent me to the games registered list instead of the survey. Bravely Default was at the bottom of the list. Refreshed the page and it wasn't. Tried again and it said the code had already been redeemed. I sent customer service an email. Wondering if anyone had the same thing happen and if it was resolved?

Mine just sat wrapped in the foam, in the box it came in. I was waiting for the day I could get my hands on a matching wiimote before unpacking it. That day never came and I ended up ebaying it last year...
That's a shame man..but this I understand, as i bought mine in leu of getting the zelda wii mote someday too. Maybe you needed the money, maybe you just wanted to clear out clutter, or pass it on. That doesn't bother me as much, since you had an intention of using it. But the majority of the people who put up their $90 auctions & $150 buy it nows just have them out of greed. That bothers me. I know that's the way the world works, but that doesn't exactly change how I feel about it.

$40-$50 was a fair price to me. But when I saw the $60 auction with $5 shipping, I had to concede that was the best I was going to get.

I really need to get rid of some of these Wii Remotes. I swear to god they're reproducing when I'm not looking.

Coincidentally, I want the Princess Peach Wii Remote, but I'm struggling with whether I want to get rid of the Zelda remote or the Black remote to be replaced.

I'm holding onto the two white Wii Remotes, as I have motionplus adapters for them, and they'll be bundled with my Wii whenever I sell it or give it away.

What color nunchuck do you use with the Mario and Luigi ones? The OCD in me wants to make custom red and green ones.

Then you get rid of the boring black one. No shame in hooking Peach up to something black, she probably likes it that way.

Club Nintendo site is lagging like crazy for me atm. Wonder if it's just everyone signing in to do their post-play surveys from the codes they entered on the 1st.

Edit: Fixed it by complaining. So glad that works.

I'm a sucker for those special edition wii motes & nunchuks. My parents don't understand why I need so many controllers. XD After I get the Mario & LOZ ones, I just want Yoshi & that's it for wii motes heh. Then I'll start collecting classic controllers that match, & the SNES one. :p

The OCD gamer in me needs all the nunchuks & classic controllers to match. I'm making my own green & blue/red & blue ones.

By the way, both the mini & the Mario anniversary wii come with red nunchuks.

I dunno how I feel about third-party nunchucks though, eh.
Regular white nunchuks are cheap, knock offs are cheaper. What you do is buy a white nunchuk used, & swap the case of the third party one. Instant custom first party nunchuk for around $6-$10 depending on where you get the white nunchuk & what kind you're trying to make.

I've thought about this a lot lol. I would never trust a 3rd party chuck. Their cheap manufactured casing is all I'm after.

I got a pair of dark blue knock off nunchucks to go with my Maio & Luigi remotes. I actually bought from two different sellers on eBay and one is better quality than the other... but still not quite Nintendo quality.

I need to take a pic of my set of four controllers: black, white, red, gold, all with OFFICIAL classic controllers (imported red from Europe), OFFICIAL nunchucks, and matching wheels. Gold is real from Japan, but red is a knock off.

I also have the character set, with matching wheels... waiting for Mario & Luigi wheels to ship from Amazon; un-official pink and lime green wheels off eBay for Peach and Yoshi remote (from Europe). I just can't find a good color nunchuck to go with Yoshi, so probably will do white. (I can't believe no one makes green...)

Except that the last time it was offered it only cost 200 coins.
Maybe its just me, but I always laugh when people bring up the price inflation on digital games. I mean, we have one group of people talking about how getting platinum (600 coins) is easy, a far larger group bitching about how Club Nintendo sucks and their coins are worthless and now we have a group that are annoyed these supposedly easy to obtain coins that offer prizes so shitty that people have a difficult time spending over the span of 2 - 3 years cost a little more than they did a year + ago. But like I said, maybe I am the only one who finds amusement in this.

Gawd, CN is so easy to rack up coins but it sucks so hard and I'm going to die with all these coins.

I don't have an endless supply of coins from several accounts. I can reach Platinum easy enough but when a single game nearly costs the equivalent of Gold Status something is wrong. Nintendo keeps tweaking things specifically due to these hoadings, depreciating coins over time, shortening survey expirations, removing post play surveys from last generation. Nintendo's trying to make it harder to collect coins to increase their value while simultaneously increasing the price of their rewards decreasing the value of their coins.

EDIT: Honestly it's not the reward increases that are annoying as much as the random pricing. I just wish they either had a fixed 1for1 value of coins to currency or defined a pricing tier based on the game's actual value.

Yeah, if you think of it simply in terms of the amount of coins needed for Gold or Platinum status, the digital games do seem priced excessively high. A single NES game costs you well over half of the coins required for gold status. It looks like the lowest they go any more is 150. So that's half right there. And everything this month is 200-250. I suspect we won't see much at the 150 level from now on. And to think many of them used to be just 100. I wish now I had picked up more of the ones they've had in the past (looking at the list in the OP).

So if you disregard any physical items and how much they redeem for, the virtual games themselves are definitely a bit pricey with respect to the scale of what you earn in a typical Club year to gain one of their "Elite" tiers. I mean, basically even with Platinum-level coins you can only get about 3 games (and then no other rewards). That's pretty steep for what are mostly novelty games that we might play just a few times (seriously - I haven't even touched some of the ones I've gotten).

I think you guys are giving Nintendo too much credit with all of your reasonings... I'm pretty sure most of us have put more thought into Club Nintendo than Ninty actually has.

I'm pretty sure most of us have put more thought into Club Nintendo than Ninty actually has.
I'm pretty sure it's because it actively affects us. Whereas it's not revenue generating from Nintendo's perspective so not entirely worth it. I don't buy games just to get CN codes. They're an after thought in the process (usually). I don't particularly buy even shovelware to get extra codes. But that's just me. Some of ya'll take this stuff way to seriously :)

Probably a stupid question since the word gift implies you don't have to pay for it, but is the platinum/gold gift something you have to "buy" with points or is it free when it becomes available?

I'm sitting on 1,260 points and I'll probably get a couple games this month from the offerings but I want to make sure I don't leave myself short if those points are needed.

Thanks

The Platinum/Gold gifts do not cost you points. You simply choose one you want to receive.

Ok setting up my sons MK8 WiiU bundle and I don't see any club Nintendo points, should I be worried? Also do I need to open up the copy of MK8 to get the points out of it?

Thanks

Here is a tough question I couldn't find an answer to: I registered my M&L Wii U to get bonus points for eshop purchases and got points for redeeming Zelda Windwaker. Is there another way to earn bonus points without spending cash? Does it work to just redeem Club Nintendo Wii/WiiU games? I just need one more point for a $5 voucher.

If you CN account and NID are linked then you'll get the coins once you so the system survey. That can take 24 hours plus to show up in your to do list and if you have a queue of surveys will likely be at the very end as it has like a 9 month expiration if I remember correctly.

I think when you register the actual console the MK8 code is included (coins). Don't know if the free game is still active.

It works on any codes that are for Wii U games, so the ones you have to redeem on the old Wii shop do not count.

Yes, WiiU game codes count towards the DDP same as buying the item directly off the eShop regardless of the source as long as it's an actual WiiU game. For example DK Jr counts because it's a native WiiU game but Paper Mario wouldn't because it's a Wii game.
