Daily Giveaway @ Freebers.com
hey quick question where can you get a Netflix card like that??
I've seen them at Target. They're on a little kiosk with a bunch of other types of online cards.

Is anyone else having trouble with the website? every time I load it up the timer keeps trying to load itself, and each second that goes by makes the page refresh.

I just loaded it up. It was a little slow, which could be me since I've been having connection issues tonight, but everything is working fine.

ohh ok cool thanks @ Louiedog and ohram.. sometimes i have no money on my credit card and i have to pay them like a week late.. i can just buy one of these to have 3months paid :) thanks

ohram,

There is a problem with twitter sometimes, but if it keeps refreshing over and over again - hm.. i'll have to look into that. We may ditch the timer or use some other technology.

Also, today we are giving away Call of Duty Black Ops for 360 - congrats to the winner of the NetFlix card. :)

We are adding a voting feature to the site soon. (Actually, it is already finished, we are just working on OTHER features before we implement it) We are also planning a CAG promotion as well, the combination of the two will probably ensure a lot of video games get voted to the top of the list, this means if a lot of people want MvC3 on 360, then you will definitely see it pop up once or twice or maybe more (based on popularity).

Wow you seem to be putting in a lot of effort and money for your site... I hope things will work out for you! I can't imagine how much money it would take to start something like this and to be giving something out every day. sheesh.

@Absopure Haha thanks. The main goal right now is to get the word out to everyone that this site exists. Along-side that we have to make sure people know the site is legit, which is kind of hard to do with all of the fake stuff out there.

Anyway, today is COD Black Ops for 360... even if you already own it - enter to win! Give it to someone who doesn't have it, they'll admire you forever...or at least for a few minutes before they start playing and get addicted to it for days...

Congrats to whoever won Call of Duty Black Ops for 360.. not sure if it was from here or not.

Today's giveaway: SALT Blu-ray. Pretty good movie, has angelina jolie in it... need I say more?

GUYS, today is the Nintendo DS Lite. We are giving it away to one lucky person, so please head on over to http://freebers.com/ and enter to win! :)

@SCDallas - only one per day, we are thinking about adding a way to enter via facebook which will get you a possibile 2 entries.

@kirby_fox - haha i hope so too.

hate to complain but why almost all the winner you guys choose have no followers and no pics and most of there tweets are only from you guys dont know if people have multiply accounts winning everything??

I mean absolutely no disrespect to anybody and know that I've seen a winner (Louie)... but I also have to offer this info. Again, no disrespect... but it is a definite pattern... a bot and a handful of spam accounts that started with only tweets for the website.

Past winners -

New Spam Accounts:

http://twitter.com/xKayluh
http://twitter.com/arahal88

Old Spam Accounts:
http://twitter.com/l123455
http://twitter.com/SmRtShoppR
http://twitter.com/deznutsinyomouf

Bot:

Normally I dont click past winners, but after my twitter feed erupted into fake account talk, I wanted to look back.

I don't quite understand your post. It just looks more like people making accounts for the first time, or only using them to enter contests. Are they all from the same person?

Im not saying they are all from the same person, just noting that out of all the entries (out of like a dozen prizes) it's kinda odd that a bot, 3 "fresh" accounts and 3 spam accounts (with only a dozen more/less) contest-only posts for another website managed to win. Which means there needs to be a bit of quality control on the validity of accounts. If the goal is to get contest bots, multiple account users, etc. to follow... why not just get all of the other twitter bots to follow, as it serves the exact same purpose.

DeeEmEcks: I get your point, and no, I dont want bots following. In fact, none of those accounts are bots. They are all human registered accounts on freebers.

We have plenty of anti-fraud measures in place to ensure only a real human can win. We have multiple algorithms in place that help create a good community for our giveaway entrants.

The real point is, we can't ONLY give items away to people who "look legit". Thats illegal I'm fairly sure. We have to be open to give away items to anyone who enters. The way to enter is putting a message on your twitter status once per day. Yes, people will start to look spammy if they don't post daily and actively use twitter, that is a downside of twitter contests.

But this problem does not exist solely with Freebers, in fact I was told it occurs regularly. It SUCKS when I see someone with 0 followers win. I'd LOVE it if everyone had 1,000 followers or more who won - as that is WAY BETTER business for me. The only way to combat spammers winning, is to get more of your "legit friends" entering daily. If the majority of people are "not active on twitter", thats just how the demographic is right now.

I plan on hosting a contest on CAG soon, so once that is live its a high percentage chance that CAG members will win more than others.

Anyway, if you have ideas for Freebers, I'm ALLLLL ears. Just send me a message ([email protected]) and I'll reply back soon. If you have a good idea on how we can make sure legit people win (keeping the giveaway legal), I will gladly take your advice. :)

It is unfortunate a lot of new/spam/bot accounts win on twitter whereas someone like me with 10,000 tweets, 334 followers, doesn't.

That's why I don't do as many contests as I used to on Twitter. I do forms. By hand. Every day. At least then I know I'm not losing out to a bot that is programmed to post every day for something.

Shane_For_Wax: That's a good point. I am going to look into the legality of making it so people have to actually be active regular twitter users, or something along those lines.

If all else fails, eventually Freebers will be giving away multiple items per day. You can easily see how this would help.

Anyway - Freebers is giving away a copy of the social network on blu-ray. This is literally my fav movie, so whoever wins - congrats.

Tomorrow we are giving away microsoft points. Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up. :)

After I registered, the browser redirected me to a sign-in link that included my username and password in plain text in the URL.

Should probably fix that.

There's no legal issues unless you are excluding people based on race, gender, orientation, etc. "Active Twitter Account Holder" is not a suspect class, but you will, however, need to define "Active" in your promotion eligibility section. You may also want to notify your current subscribers of any changes to terms, etc. GameZone is a perfect example of how to do that, as they require X number of posts to be eligible for their contests

It's an issue that extends far beyond your twitter contest, even ones conducted on this website end with short term, long term lurkers (0 post). It's definitely frustrating to watch, but also the nature of online contests.

Thanks for the advice dyeknom, I will thoroughly investigate this and see what we can do. We want the growth, we want people to be able to easily enter - but we also want happy campers. I guess there is a balance, and we will surely find it.

@XP1: I will have my coder fix that so it does not post it in the URL, rather stores it in the session. We are releasing a new version of the site in a few days, including the ability to vote for upcoming products. I will make sure the password in registration is gone by that launch. :)

Thanks guys, as I said earlier - 1600 ms points up for grabs today. Enter to win at http://freebers.com/

No chance? Equal chance as everyone else. I see today was another user who "doesn't look very active". Again, our system is flawless, its doing what its supposed to do, randomly selecting someone who entered.

I honestly hope more than anything that whoever wins the iPod shuffle that we're giving away is someone who is legitimately active on twitter. It doesn't help freebers when this occurs, heh.

Anyway, its not like its a huge hassle to click a button and enter, maybe its too easy to enter... we'll hammer out the details, i'm talking with a few of my associates about this matter right now in fact.

Good luck guys/gals http://freebers.com/

For those of you who were interested in iTunes Apps - we are giving away a $15 iTunes card today. Just visit http://freebers.com/ and register. I also just bought $1500 worth of items, so if you used http://freebers.com/vote to vote up some products, you'll probably see them in the next few weeks. If you didn't, go vote NOW to make sure your wants will show up in future weeks. :)

I won a blue 2gb ipod shuffle a few days ago. I just got it in the mail! now if only i didnt already have a nano and a touch...

I'm only moderately active on Twitter, but I follow a few of the people on here, and they've been talking about winning with "spam accounts." It is quite easy to enter into the contest; I mean, you could just download every browser available, make a separate account for Twitter on each one, connect it to freebers, and have that many entries every day. This is obviously what people are doing. It's nothing against the website itself, just the greedy bastards who want to win anything they can and sell it for some marginal gain.

Blade: We do have measures in place to combat that, we're not stupid. :)

There will always be fraud, but we will ensure that we make it very difficult / expensive to attempt at gaming the freebers system. We have a lot of great minds working on this all of the time.

Congrats to the winner of Dead Space 2...

I could be wrong, but I do believe the winner is also a member of CAG?

Winner - can you show yourself? :)

Today is Little Big Planet 2 for PS3. I hope a lot of you guys (and gals) enter this one, more importantly I hope someone from CAG wins. :)

Count me in as another Zune owner. I don't think anyone has a competing product for the iPod Touch that's worth a damn. I don't know why there aren't 20 awesome android media devices out there doing that. However, when it comes to the iPod Classic there are a ton of great competing products, the Zune included.
