Can't wait to see what they'll knock down to $9.99 that week, or $4.99 after coupon.

KingOfOldSchool's FAQ

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.
it was on BB.com for 3 days & walmart for a couple days too. You're saying your BB won't match match BB.com? Which stores) are you having problems with?
Nope. I would always get turned down because they were "outlet center" items. At least that outlet center crap is gone now. But just the other day I got turned down trying to buy the BB Deal of the Day on Max Payne 3 and the Max Payne 3 strategy guide. I drove home, ordered online for in-store pickup, and drove back today. That's more reasonable though because it was an "online only" sale.

They only had one 360 copy. I said, "there's only one copy on the shelves and I'm not sure if it is going to show up as in-stock on the website when I get home."

Even if they held the game for me, I didn't know if I'd be able to order it online. They didn't care much about customer service. I ended up ordering the stuff for in-store pickup at another BB store. I live right in the middle of 3 BB stores which are pretty close. I also have 3 other BB stores within reasonable driving distance. At least this happened at one of the further away stores.
- I'll give you $5.01.
Sold! That's a penny more than BB anyway.

I just need an extra $2.99 for shipping costs and buying a bubble mailer. Also, you might need like a gallon of "Goo Gone" to get rid of this umm... "sticker" residue.
I think the Blockbuster sale is nationwide, Judging by the posters on Blu-Ray.com whom are located all over the States.
Thanks for telling us about this. After reading your post, I went to my nearest BBV (like 9 miles away now instead of 1/10th of a mile away). I ended up buying a few $49 cent and $99 cent DVDs. Now I have at least 10 DVDs to trade in for the upgrade and save sale. At least it's a start.

I also bought the American Reunion bluray for $6.49. I almost bought The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo bluray (daniel craig, fincher version) for $4.99, but it was missing the 2nd disc. I ended up putting it back.

Yes, thank you for mentioning the Blockbuster sale. Although I have plenty of DVDs in my own collection to use for the upcoming U&S, I was able to pick up a copy of The Artist on blu ray for $6.50.

sweet! ive been waiting for this to return. I recently just started making a Blu collection out of my movies, trying to get rid of my fav DVDs and turn them into Blus.

Can anyone explain to me how these things work or link me if there's an official explanation? I have a box of movies in my car I've been getting ready to unload at a place just to get rid of them and if this event might be the better option I may do that. I was looking for quick cash with the first place but if I can get some good Blu-Rays out of it I may just do this but don't know how it works.

Damn, you just need to read up the previous few posts. Plus the OP was updated to include the old FAQ. Do just a little bit of reading at least....

Does anyone know if I can buy from their website and then do a return re-buy with the coupon. I would like to get more foreign films that are not carried at most best buys.

Pft, sorry about that. I usually do, been dead tired all day and didn't opt to do that this time. Thanks again.

EDIT: Ok, after reading that, so you can basically only trade them in 5 DVDs a day since it says you only seem get 5 coupons a day? If that's the case, kinda sucks for me as the nearest one is like an hour drive from me. It won't be something I could do everyday since that's a long drive (and gas consumed) just to get a few $5 off coupons for as many movies as I have.

- YMMV. I've traded in 7 movies before I even knew about the limit and had no issues. It really depends on the cashier or manager. If you brought someone along with you or used a different cashier, you might have luck with that.

Although a 1 hour drive plus gas tends to put a damper on things.
I really hope we can buy the BB Bond exclusives On her Majesty's secret service, You only live twice, and The spy who loved me for $4.99 a piece. Pics..if it happens...;)

So it looks like you can get Predator 1 + 2, X-men, and Aliens 1-3 for $4.99 each with upgrade. Might have to bite on some of those.

I am hoping workaholics s1 & 2 blu stay at 12.99, the 5 off and I got a rewards cert to use. 2.99 plus tax would make for the tightest butthole.

Yepper, it's happening. I checked the ad yesterday at work. Two page advertisement, and the bottom of each page has examples of what you can get for what price. I recall seeing Predator on one of the pages. Sorry if I'm repeating information!

Well considering this is an actual topic, yeah you're kind of late.

- Unfortunately, the Predator transfer (Regular and Ultimate) are both horrific. Even at $5, I would pass.

So in the latest announcement they indeed say it's 5 per trip. The smartass in me assumes I can't simply walk into the store with 5 DVDs, get my coupons, then return to my car and re-enter with another 5 DVDs and repeat amirite? If that's the case which I'm sure it is I wouldn't get any crap if I went in with some friends and they each had 5 of my movies along with myself right? I mean they really don't know they're carrying my stuff (or even if they suspect it no proof) so as long as they don't see anyone throw the coupons my way after the exchange I should be good right? The nearest Best Buy around me is over an hour away and my friends and I usually go up there once a month so it's not really a place I can keep visiting constantly just to throw down another five.
I'm looking to pick up the CM Punk Blu Ray and anything that has movie cash. Looking forward to the Upgrade and Save again.
Will the Punk blu be on the list? Is it everything or just what's on the list?

You can't PM and use the upgrade and save coupon right?

Would have been nice to PM Fry's 19.99 for Avatar 3D and use the coupon. :whistle2:(

It's very YYMV as it is considered double dipping. I haven't been successful but you can always try.
will this be advertised in store or in their ad?
It will be in the ad.

Thanks! I think I'll, finally, partake on this deal!

Going to price match Prometheus 3D from Amazon ($25) to Best Buy, then use my $5 upgrade to get for $20, you guys think it will work?
Going to price match Prometheus 3D from Amazon ($25) to Best Buy, then use my $5 upgrade to get for $20, you guys think it will work?
Nope. It is YMMV for PM to Amazon. All my stores don't. The upgrade coupon will then be double dipping. This is where I say your chances are almost less than .01%.

Probably not. Just thought about a game I price matched from Amazon and the coupon reversed the price match and made it the price it'd, originally, be with the coupon. Left it, lol(SFxT).

Prometheus 3D Pre-Order $24.99 on Best Buy's site: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Prometheus+-+Blu-ray+3D/6668026.p?id=2578625&skuId=6668026&st=Prometheus%203D%20&lp=1&cp=1

I'm shocked that there are a lot of people reporting that their BB doesn't pm Amazon. Mines does no questions asked. The price matching will work, I'm not sure about the double dip method though.

Sweet, time to sort through my Oscar and Emmy screeners, lots of crap I can work my magic and transform into $5 off coupons, MWAHAHAHA

But Prometheus 3d will be $25 next week according to the bb weekly ad thread.

Sonic is right it will already be $24.99 next week as the ad is already been posted at br.com and here.

Also you can't PM and then use the coupon as members have already stated. It is very YMMV and considered double dipping.

any help is appreciated.

is there any way to check online to see how long an item will be marked at a sales price? I would just check the tag at my closest best buy, but it is about 30 miles away, and I typically only make it out there on sundays. I called the store and was left on hold for 15 minutes, only to be told they had no way of knowing.

curious about the workaholics season 1 & 2 set. its currently 12.99. is this the new price point, or will it be jumping up after this week's sale?

I'm kind of shocked that some Best Buys are so weary of PMing anyone, let alone Amazon. I mean, the BB I work at is the only one in a 500 mile radius, but still. I have no problem PMing anyone. It's just weird to know that some stores are turning people away because they don't want to lose $8.
...only to be told they had no way of knowing.

Yes, it's the permanent price. And it's true that there isn't a way of knowing, as far as I'm aware of. New tags are printed out early Sunday morning and put out before the store opens. That's when Anderson Merchandising puts out the media tags and adjusts prices if it's called for.

Thanks for the info. It just seems like too great of a price to not just be a sale. Awesome news. Thanks again.

Probably because its Best Buy policy not to...

Does Best Buy match the prices of Internet retailers?
No. Best Buy does not match the prices of Internet-only retailers or the website prices of our local retail competitors' stores. If, however, a local retail competitor has the same or lower price as its online store and the customer can provide verification of the in-store price, Best Buy will match the price (so long as all other price match policy criteria are met).

No problem, dude! Glad I could be of some assistance!

And slickkill77, that's really interesting. I wonder why POS (the cashier/transaction program) lists Amazon, NewEgg, BestBuy.com, and others that I can't think of off hand as reasons for price adjustments.
