Can't wait to see what they'll knock down to $9.99 that week, or $4.99 after coupon.

KingOfOldSchool's FAQ

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.
The communication among BestBuy staff is very poor. Their own CS team seems to be the last to know of any offer going on or now to process this kind of trade ins.
The morning store meetings made absolutely no mention of this deal. The stacks of coupons were just left stacked at the CS registers and computers with no explanation as to why they were there.
Is the prometheus bonus disc that's included in the 3D version, 3D or 2D?
Can't wait until tomorrow to find this out as well. Gotta go with BBY for my copy, though, $19.99 after $5 off U&S can't be beat.

I picked up the last copies of Aliens and Alien3 yesterday along with one of many of Alien, Alien3 was also missing the slipcase unfortunately. I want a matching set, damn it! Customer Service and management also didn't know about the promo being back so they couldn't find the U&S slips. Just entered some promo code on the register and a receipt printed out with the promo code x 5.

EDIT: the store by my office had a bunch of Alien3 with the slipcase, so I was able to get one. Matching set FTW.

Exact opposite for me... they've always accepted them at mine

Fast Action 6 Pack 9.99 - 5.00 = 4.99
(only getting this for eXistenZ even though I heard it wasn't a good transfer on this collection. The single disc for that movie comes out Dec 04, 2012 and I can not wait for that so I went with this instead)

Stake Land 9.99 - 5.00 = 4.99
Well shit. I have to try this. I'd love to get stake land, nightwatch, and daywatch.

How necessary is a case? I have a couple multipack movies and combo pack DVDs that can go in, but I don't have enough cases for each disc individually.

5) Discs are supposed to have the original case and artwork and the discs are meant to be at least presentable -- the disc at least should look like it can be played. Many stores require the UPC to be intact. Some stores check things pretty closely (right disc, right case, right UPC, disc condition) and others just toss the case into the recycle bin without any screening (some people swear they traded in an empty case). [In reality discs in anything that look like regular case are often accepted by some stores including those is Blockbuster/3rd party cases with rental stickers and and nowhere near original artwork and UPC]
It's not unwatchable. The actors look a bit waxy and CGI at certain parts, particularly the beginning, but you get used to it. Once the action kicks in, you don't notice it as much. A better transfer would be nice, but I went with the 2010 version for the improved audio and (still very few) special features. The video quality is more true to the original in the 2008 version, it's just a grainy hell.[/IMG]
- The 2008 version is from a dated master, but the grain preserves detail. It does have issues with compression artifacts. The 2010 version looks like everyone has a shiny clear coat on their skin. The forest looks like it has fake shiny plastic leaves. It no longer looks like film since everything has been scrubbed.

IMO, the 2008 version is the lesser of two evils.

Here's a thread on AVS with a lot of comparison shots.

I made out pretty well today. It started out as one of those horror stories because it took around a full hour at the customer service desk. It was mainly because they didn't receive the coupons and it took them forever to figure out how to print them out. They let me buy more than 5 because I waited so long. Here's my first haul:

Jaws - $11.99 (thanks to universal $3 coupon)
8 Mile - $1.99 (thanks to universal $3 coupon)
Rampart - $4.99
Fast Action 6 pack - $4.99 (bought for eXistenZ)
Red Dawn - $4.99 (has $7.50 hollywood movie money for remake)
I spit on Your Grave double feature - $4.99
Workaholics Seasons 1+2 - 7.99

I also bought:

Clerks/Chasing Amy/Jay + Bob 3 pack - $4.99
Nyko Kinect Zoom - $4.99 (using $15 off rewardzone coupon).
Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty - $9.99 (pricematched toysrus.com)

I didn't get to attempt the "special order" yet. I'm probably going to try it tomorrow. They only had 1 copy of a few of the blurays I bought today,so I wanted to buy them before they sold out. I also wanted to attempt using the $3 Universal 100th coupon because I get turned down with that about 50% of the time.

Thanks for posting a $9.99 list, much appreciated.

Today I picked up a few movies:
Pulp Fiction
Alien
Aliens
Kevin Smith 3 pack

Anyone have any lesser known recommendations? Stake Land looks interesting.

I grabbed Everything Must Go, Pulp Fiction and Leon: The Professional for $5 and Archer S2 and Killer Elite for $12.99. Was kind of miffed that Archer S1 did not match S2's price.

Son of a bitch, the local Dollar Tree store has absolutely no DVDs, and Big Lots has them at $3 and $5, what a rip off. Was hoping for some $1 or less per disc copies...

The first time they began running this promo, I was lucky enough to get a new cashier who didn't know how to ring them up. One of the Blu-rays I got was Blazing Saddles, which was on sale for $7.99 but the tag was still $9.99. She ended up marking down each BR $5, including Blazing Saddles.

For this latest trip, one of the DVDs I was trading in (Daredevil regular edition) had most of the UPC covered in sticker residue and another (Evangelion OG release) didn't have a UPC at all and both were accepted. I have noticed that Superbits and early DVDs/flipper discs will give the clerks pause as the former looks like a bootleg and the latter has no coverart.

Still have enough anime singles and old movies for another 3 or 4 promos. Not enough money this time.

I've looked on the site and here but how long are the coupons valid? It says they're doing this until 10/20 but is that just for the promo where you actually get the coupons? As I'm going there today with friends (again I'll say the nearest one is far so I don't go often) but this is kinda spur of the moment and I don't figure I'll get anything today if I get my coupons.

You should try ebay. Im thinking of selling some of my extra dvds on their too, i have like over 20 just sitting there.

Depending on what you're selling, you would probably get more money with the U&S. I sell on eBay myself and I can tell you right now that they are flooded with 0.99 cent DVDs. If it is ssomething you can buy at Big Lots, you are likely not going to get much for it. Not to mention that a lot of searches are clogged with people selling partial releases (usually either just the BR or DVD from a combo pack) and stuff like that. I had Air Force One, Pirates of the Carribean 1, Mortal Kombat, and Ocean's 11 on sale for months with no takers at $2.99. I traded them in for the coupons.

Check out local Craiglist too. Sometimes you get good deals from your local folks where you reside who wanted to get rid of stuff.

has anyone gone to a best buy that did not have coupons? The one in Schaumburg IL didn't went I went in on Monday, I normally don't shop there but because I was in the area yesterday morning I thought I would trade them in. Customer service girl took my dvds and scanned the coupon SKU for me. Now I am afraid I lost my chance for coupons

Grabbed the ET Digi, Attack the Block, and Taken (w/ movie cash). Wanted Red Dawn (as did three other people), but they broke the street date and had none in stock. They were out of Workaholics as well.

Ok, so it wasn't just my local Best Buy that broke street date as well. I went in Monday to buy my first set of 5 movies of the sale, and was surprised to see Red Dawn on the shelf (and even more surprised when I went to buy it the system didn't reject it as being early). Elsewhere I read Costco has the computers setup if you try to buy something early, it will warn the cashier. Guess Best Buy isn't worried about that type of thing :)

A good tip also if you have a half price books around. Near me they always have a discount rack with Dvd from 1-3 dollars. The crappy ones are usually a dollar, so use your "instincts" to cut your time. On the flip side sometimes you get an occasional killer dvd for a buck you want to keep..like I found the Punisher Extended cut for 1 dollar.

Dollar Tree by me had Dog Whisperer 3 episode DVD's for $1. Two different ones. Also, at CVS I think any Discovery Kid DVD is clearanced as I found some marked $1.50 but they rang up .40. Asked the guy at Best Buy if there's a limit on trading in more than one of the same title but he doesn't know. Anyone have any idea, because if there isn't, then I'll be building a nice Blu-ray collection lol

So far I've traded in ~15 copies of the Dirty Sanchez movie.

Last time they did this, I traded like 10 copies of the "Basketball Fix" from Dollar tree... They just handed me my receipt. No issue at all...

Is anyone else doing the MovieStop trade 2 deal???

I know Taken does not work ($2.xx TIV)
Expendables does work ($3.xx)

Need to find a 4.99 Blu to match with the expendables for the trade 2.
Picked up The Great Mouse Detective for $14.99 AC. It released today along with Pete's Dragon.
Did you actually see Pete's Dragon? It's not supposed to release until next week.
so i bought et at target for the steelbook is it possible to buy the best buy version and return it to target with the best buy version
- I can't imagine that would work. The Target SteelBook edition most likely has a different SKU/UPC than the BestBuy version. Not to mention that it's a despicable and fraudulent thing to do.
- I can't imagine that would work. The Target SteelBook edition most likely has a different SKU/UPC than the BestBuy version. Not to mention that it's a despicable and fraudulent thing to do.
could do the old no receipt lol

No, you couldn't because of
...a different SKU/UPC...
Time to brush up on those reading comprehension skills (not to mention your ethics).

:wall:the target version had a steelbook?!?!?

So I turned in my unwatched copy of the 11th hour dvd and got this weird look from the CSR saying they don't take blank/copies dvds only retail in box...when I told her that's the way the package was designed , she still didn't believe me, til I had her scan it in her terminal and it rang up.

Anyways I got the photo copy of the trade in coupon plus the receipt for the trade in. The cashier rung up the movie but I guess didn't understand how to do a 5 dollar reward zone AND a 5 dollar trade in so he entered 2 MFG 5 dollar coupons so that knocked the movie down. I know he screwed up, so there might be a chance that my 5 dollar reward zone coupon printed out may not have been used.

hmmm

Didn't look for it, but I could have sworn it was supposed to come out yesterday. Sorry for the bad intel.

4 out of 5 that I wanted arent available in store and they wont allow the online order, pick up in store, return, then re-buy using the coupons.

I can't imagine why the hell not. Just return it without telling them you want to rebuy. Then say, "You know what, I think I do want that after all. Oh and here are my upgrade and save coupons."

Grocery stores are another possible place to find cheap movies.

Save A Lot, a no frills store, carries DVDs by the register. Usually old B Movies. I think those are $1.

Drug Mart if that hasn't been mentioned. Don't know if these stores are regional or what but I'm sure there are similar types elsewhere.

Last few times they've had a decent TV blu-ray sale at the same time, only picked up I spit on your grave double pack (pretty much just for the Joe Bob Briggs commentary) so far.
Didn't look for it, but I could have sworn it was supposed to come out yesterday. Sorry for the bad intel.
Not a problem! I was just curious whether Best Buy broke the street date. I only have to wait till next week anyway. :)

I started a suggestion thread on Best Buy forums to allow U&S coupons to be used online (or to place online orders in store for ship to store/home, which seems to be pretty YMMV right now). At this point, there's almost nothing in store that I want and haven't bought yet, except for new releases which are often still too expensive for me to buy, so I really hope they decide to figure something out. If anyone's interested in voting it up or commenting on it, here's the link: http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-B...p-Save-Coupons-To-Be-Used-Online/idi-p/593310
