Bond 50

In celebration of James Bond's monumental golden anniversary, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment today unveiled BOND 50, a collectible box-set featuring all 22 James Bond films on Blu-ray Disc for the first time in one complete offering. The longest running film franchise of all time, the Bond 50 collection marks the debut of nine James Bond films previously unavailable in high definition Blu-ray. Fans around the world can pre-order now with participating online retailers.

BOND 50 showcases fifty years of Bond neatly packaged into one cool, sleek collectable box-set featuring all six iconic James Bond actors. Produced using the highest possible picture quality and audio presentation, the collection includes all 22 James Bond feature films from Dr. No to Quantum of Solace and more than 130 hours of bonus features including some new and exclusive content

Pretty steep price but great for huge Bond fans. Hopefully price goes down and hopefully release date is announced soon
I have a question. Do you guys think I'm better off getting the individual releases so I have the separate cases, or the box set with all in one. Is there anything more to the box set that's incredibly special. Also, does the box set have the same features as the individual discs, say like these: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=230858368553&index=4&nav=SEARCH&nid=27320573505. Please give me your advice, I get paid Tuesday and want to make the right choice.
The box set has a bonus disc but it seems to be pretty weak, just a collection of generic interviews and some Skyfall promo stuff. IIRC, Casino Royale in the box set is missing some bonus features from the 2 disc blu ray but the rest are all the same as the regular releases.
If the cost is an issue, it will probably cost more than $150 to get all 22 movies on blu, so the box set would be a better deal. But then you wouldn't have them all in individual cases. So basically you gotta decide if cases are worth the extra bucks to you.

Honestly, I think this is one of the better sets they've put out presentation-wise, but it doesn't change the fact that the bonus disc is awful (mainly just cut together clips of all gadgets, villains, etc and the SkyFall video blogs, which you can just get online. No new insight, really disappointing.) and the special features are the same as the UE DVDs.

So, honestly, if you own the first batch and can get the final 9 cheaper than the set itself, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go that way. Keep in mind, though, that (as far as I know) the cases won't match the previous releases.

Anyway, I really, really love the box set, and think it's a hell of a deal for $150. Problem is, it's a great presentation, but it completely packs any real new features. So, base your decision on that.

All I know is that I'm fucked either way, since I own the previous releases, the box set, and... well, if they really release the standalones with the same covers the UK is getting, I won't be able to help myself. That'd make them, let's see here, my fifth full set of the films. Which, obviously, is totally necessary. Sigh.

Sir, you are worthy of your CAG handle. :applause:

I forgot to mention I picked up (as in held in my hand, not bought) the blu ray box set at Target, and it just felt so...underwhelming. Considering there are 22 films and 50 years (or so) of history in it, just the size of it felt pretty minor. The Avengers set and that Harry Potter collection thing seem like much bigger box sets and those are what, one third of the content of Bond 50. So maybe if you're still not convinced either way, go and hold one and see if that sways you! I would much rather have all 22 films in individual cases.

This is seriously dumb. You're complaining because it's too small? Um, that's a good thing. It doesn't come with a bunch of useless crap that makes it overinflated in size and price. It amazes me what ppl find to bitch at. You're getting 22 movies for $150 and your whining about it not having enough heft, lmfao.
Sir, you are worthy of your CAG handle. :applause:
Agreed. Guess I know who I could send my slipcovers to that were from my single movie releases I no longer have. ;)

Agreed.

But like you said people find a way to bitch about anything.

Seems to be $170 at amazon now. Was contemplating, but unless it dips to $99 sometime (which I think is likely at some point), I think I can hold off. But it's still much better than the $699,999.52 price that camelcamel shows it was on Jan 10. What is that, some Dr. Evil price???

I have the first set that I paid $60 for, bought never say never separately, and painstakingly checked the complete listing of films on wikipedia and recorded the remainder off an HD channel via my hava though in slightly sub-HD quality to complete my set.(

Just got this today. I personally think it's a really nice set, and the only problem I have with it is that Skyfall's placeholder spot doesn't have a picture of that film's Bond Girl next to it.

Also, I'm worried that the Skyfall disc won't match the rest of the set. But this is all nitpicking, and as a whole I'm pretty happy with it.

I was an idiot and sold all my Bond Blu-Rays (and UE DVDs for the ones without Blu-Rays) including the 2-disc Casino Royale Blu-Ray to put towards the box set. Something came up financially, so I have to put the box set on hold, but now I'm hearing the set isn't all that anyway and I shoulda held on to what I have. I'm kicking myself hardcore right now.

I travel a lot for work, and today I find myself in an area with Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target within 2 minutes of each other. Dammit, I don't have that much willpower.

Wal-Mart couldn't find their exclusives, but Target had them out. Target, however, only had one copy of each. They also had Licence to Kill in the new packaging, and I can confirm that the Dalton films are $14.99 at Target. TND and AVTAK are both $9.99. Weird. Best Buy also didn't have them. Maybe I'm just in a shitty area, but... yeah.

Anyway, I also discovered that they're re-releasing all of them with the new covers, but they're $17.99 a pop on Amazon, which... yeah, no. Still, it seems like all of the unreleased nine are $10 this week at their respective stores with the exception of The Living Daylights, so have at it. Well, if your stores stock them, anyway.

Oh, and I realize I have a problem. Really, I do. The new covers are just so... so pretty. Argh.

Target has a Timothy Dalton tax.

In semi-related news, there's a really nice Bond 50th anniversary-edition Life magazine that I picked up at Target yesterday. I did not have a chance to read much of it, but it's pretty solid from what little I did read.

I feel totally okay paying more for the Dalton films, so that works out. If AVTAK had been $15? Yeah, not so sure about that. Though, I do like how appropriately terrified Roger Moore looks on the new AVTAK cover. It's pretty fitting.

Which, not to beat a dead horse, I fucking love the new covers. They may not be amazing, but it's sure a hell of a lot better than the awful 'gold gun barrel' cut and paste jobs we've been getting. Seriously, guys, how hard was it to finally just use promo pictures with some different coloring? They're simple, yet 10x better than the past few releases.

In regards to your semi-related note... my friend picked that up for me, but I haven't seen it yet. She seemed to think I'd be pleased, though, so it's nice to hear some corroboration. I haven't been as on top of the magazines and smaller books this time around, which is mainly because of the 'James Bond Archives' book coming out next month. It's expensive, but it's 16 pounds of Bond history. I figure that'll tide me over, you know?

Apparently the BB exclusives won't be released till Oct. 23rd, unlike the ones coming from Target and WM.

Someone at blu-ray.com stated this:
I confirmed with a manager at B&B that the three titles "THE SPY WHO LOVED ME," "ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE" and "YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE" will come out on OCT. 23.

We both looked up the info on the Best Buy inventory computer list and that was confirmed.

That's the same day Skyfall premieres in London.
Thanks 007. Did they have the slipcovers?

No slipcovers on the new releases. In case anyone doesn't know, these WILL NOT match the look of the previous releases, so be aware of that. All new 50th Anniversary covers.

Thanks for the BB update. It's bizarre, but at least that means I can hold off on some spending. That sucks for anyone who wanted those films and didn't buy the set, though.

I haven't seen it myself, but word is that some Wal-Marts have a stand with their exclusives AND the new-artwork versions of the previous releases, all for $10 a piece. For anyone that doesn't own some of the previously available ones, it's not a bad deal.

So much for the fucking Upgrade and Save idea. Hopefully they extend it a week so it overlaps with the Bond releases.

A guy a hope, can't he? :)

That sucks, but I had a feeling this news was coming. It was weird as hell that they weren't on the best buy website. Even best buy puts their bluray exclusives on their website. Maybe Target doesn't though. Thanks for the updates again 007.

When I started buying the bond bluray releases when they first came out, I had no idea it would be such a clusterfuck to buy them all.

QFT. Although I will take my incredibly mismatched set as a badge of honor, that I was buying them as they came out. Some steelbooks (I did manage to buy all available Bond steels), some normal cases, some slipcovered, all mismatched artwork... it's quite appropriate for what a mess it's all been. In some ways I feel like we're lucky to finally be able to complete the set at all.

It seems like just yesterday I was down at Best Buy getting a PM to Fry's for the first wave of Steelbooks for like $16.99 each.. ;) don't think they should've done that. ;)

Now to get them all on the same shelf and display the horror for all to see! ;)

The contents of the disc itself is the same, the only differences between the old and new releases is cover and disc artwork. So, if you don't care about them matching on a shelf, go for it.

Also, a heads-up for everyone... the last three exclusives (YOLT, OHMSS, TSWLM) are available online for store pick-up at Best Buy now. The ad dates them for this Tuesday, but I put an order in this morning and just got back from picking them up. As far as I could tell, they weren't on the shelf anywhere yet, so YMMV on just walking in and finding them. They all come with SkyFall movie cash, too.

So, that's five full sets for me now... one VHS, two DVD, two Blu-ray. I have a problem. An awesome problem, but a problem nonetheless.

Thanks for the advice. There's obviously a limit to how many times I can see Skyfall in theaters, so I think that I'm gonna go for this.

Tried to pick up the 3 at a local Target, and they were sold out. What's the likelihood of restock, since they aren't available online? I'd hate to end up with 19 of the 22 on BD.

I would assume something as highly in demand as Bond movies will eventually come back in stock, especially since we're a month away from Skyfall.

Does anyone know if the Casino Royale BR has the Skyfall ticket promo?

In fairness, you'd also think they would've stocked more than one copy of each on release day, so... who knows, really.

I've been amazed at how annoying these have been to pick up. Target has poorly stocked theirs, and I've only found the Wal-Mart ones at 1 out of the 8 I've stopped at.

Ordered OHMSS, picked it up, and then did a refund/rering using an U&S coupon. However, you have to wait 2 hours before you can refund a store pickup order, so it might not be really worth it now.
Why did you re-ring it?
Because you can't apply a coupon to a previous order without refunding it first.

The content of the new discs isn't exactly the same... the "Mission Control" function is missing. This isn't the biggest deal in the world since it was mostly a useless isolated scene selector function, but the textless title sequences were part of that function... I wish they had at least kept those on the existing Blu-rays and added them to the new-to-Blu flicks... :(

Today I bought the 3 Target exclusive releases. My store had 3 copies of each exclusive sitting on the shelf today. It was the first time I looked for them, so I'm not sure if it was a restock.

I also bought the 3 Best Buy exclusives on release day for $4.99 a piece. They did a manual override to honor the upgrade and save coupons. I tried to buy them when the upgrade and save was active, but they couldn't sell them to me and told me to come back on release day for the $4.99 price.

All I need now are the three Walmart exclusives which are all in stock online on Walmart.com right now.

So for $75 + tax + a little gas money, I should complete my collection. I probably should have sold off my 13 original releases and bought the $149.99 complete collection. At least with the way I did it, I have 23 individual bluray cases (with mismatched artwork) to house my movies.

I'm thinking of buying this custom artwork for $6:

What are your opinions about this artwork? It will cost about $6 just to download the images. I already have plenty of photo ink and photo paper to print them at home. Have you guys ever used this customaniacs website? I'm kind of scared to type my credit card info into this site.

Here's a pic someone posted on bluray.com of the artwork I'm talking about.

They look alright, but I still prefer the "Zinema" style covers... (if you aren't familiar, just do a Google search for Zinema James Bond)

They look pretty nice and the best part about them is the fact that the spines line up to make a large 007 logo... they look quite classy, imho.

Those Zinema covers look awesome. I think you're right about getting those instead. In all honesty, I'm going to be seeing the spines more often than the covers.

I can't seem to find a picture online anywhere of all the spines lined up for the 007 logo. Do you happen to have one? Should I buy them from that custommaniacs site or is there somewhere to download them free?

I found them on customaniacs, but I only see 16 of these which is weird. Maybe I'm searching the wrong thing. They should have 23 because there is one for Never Say Never Again.

Here's a link. You might need to create an account at the site to see the covers.

http://www.customaniacs.org/forum/custom-blu-ray-covers/62143-goldfinger.html

They are 3 credits a piece, which I don't really mind paying. The other covers I posters are only 6 credits for all 23 covers though.

I was worried about typing my credit card into the website until I realized they accept paypal. I'm stupid. :applause:
Do you have a link to the pictures of these? i could not find them
I found the the Blu-ray versions on r1db and the ones on customaniacs are the same ones by mattd.

R1db also works on a credits system, but I forgot how much I ended up having to pay to have enough credits... I also don't know that there are covers for the new 9 Blu-rays or the 1967 Casino Royale, but all of the others are accounted for!

So Amazon is price matching Best Buy on this at $129.99, should I bite or hold out for a lightning deal at an even lower price?

I don't own a single bond film and am just getting a bluray player for the first time, I can't wait to pull the trigger on this bond set saturday.

I'm just glad I stayed away from all those Bond sets they have had through out the years! The only ones I did buy were the Daniel Craig movies so not close to double dipping!
Umm...you do realize this thread is old, right?

Umm you do realize this is the closest thing we have to a thread on this set right?, I felt no need to make a new one just for this news.

ssjmichael provided a ton of info and help in this thread.

respect.

strange that it's out of print already, but meh. i got all the new blurays on the cheap to complete my collection. no box set, but that's okay with me - I'm just happy to finally have them on Blu-Ray in any event.
