o my god this show kicks so much ass it isnt even funny. the first two episodes you're like "gross", then for the next four seasons you're like "i could totally get away with murdering my neighbors".

just kidding, but ya its a good show.
 
Half.com has some good deals for like new and new copies of it on DVD ($20 or less). Pick up Season One now for cheap so you get hooked, then wait for a good sale for the rest.

One of the many finer points of Dexter is that every season wraps up most of the plot points related to that season, nothing major is left hanging.
 
First 2 seasons only are available on netflix instant watch. Every now and again they'll put the DVDs on sale for around $20. The sets are pretty sparse on special features so you might consider renting them (if available) and holding out to see if do a nice complete series box set when the show ends.
