Fallout 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info - 'GOTY' Edition w/All 5 DLC Packs 10.13.09

You need exit the Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest station. In all honesty, it's not even really worth finding, unless you're trying to complete everything. The building is completely gone, so there isn't anything to explore or stumble upon, and I think the only really notable loot is a Fat Man and a mini-nuke.

Just got the discover 100 paces achievement. The last perk I got was the one that showed the locations of everything on the map. I THOUGHT I had discovered a lot of placed on my own. Jeeeez....

Also..I want to at least discover vault 87 (I think thats the one) but I keep dying from RAD poisoning or whatever everytime i go near it even with the enviromental suit on and 85% rad resistance with the rad-x

I really enjoyed this game, but then I accidentally beat it,
I didn't realize they were going to kill me off, and I couldn't run away like I wanted to because somehow the doors locked me in. I still have a saved game right before I entered the building, so It wasn't like I had to replay a lot of the game, but something about that ending just left a terrible taste in my mouth..
I just can't get back into it.
There is a quest that will get you into Vault 87.
Ya you can't get into it directly.

you have to go through the caverns

I did that during the game, in the main plot, but is still shows as undiscovered on my world map - is there any way to access that vault that will be reflected there?

(Every reference to this question seems to be answered by 'you'll get there in the main quest', which makes me wonder if somehow my game glitched when I got there...)

From recent interview:
http://gamesblog.ugo.com/index.php/gamesblog/more/fallout_3_dlc_interview/

"In our third DLC, “Broken Steel,” we’ve come up with a way of allowing the player to continue on past the game ending… by changing it!" - Jeff Gardiner, Lead Producer for Fallout 3 DLC

That takes balls to straight up ignore the game's ending. Did anyone at Bethesda talk to each other during development or did the game ship and they then realize that they had DLC coming and an ending
where the main character might be dead.

A little request for some quest help, decided to put in tags just in case.

Seems like the right place to ask, does anyone happen to remember a location of a Nuka Cola Quantium? Reason I ask is because I've collected 29 out of the 30 required for the Nuka Cola Challenge Quest, and I've already reached the last quest in the main story line. It should be noted that I was created a good character this time and I tried not to steal any, but now that I'm here, I cant remember if I passed any up. Also already hit up the 3 locations mentioned in the manifest.
Well, besides the three shipment locations, Quantum is scattered all across the Wastleland. There is a chance (very small, though) that you will sometimes get one randomly from vending machines. You can usually find one in pretty much any area you enter, as well. Here is the Fallout wiki page about the challenge.

This guide totally rocks. I too only have a couple more Quantums to find, and then it's one to the last two main quests.

Thanks for the site, then again, Im not sure if I went and picked them over already XD Just need to go to a new location I guess.

Man, I have this game for awhile and I just can't bring myself to play it again. Everyone keeps saying this is the game of the year and, frankly, I haven't enjoyed it at all.

To each his own. I think its the best game this year. I'm just about to wrap up my first playthrough as a good guy.

This is the best game I've played this year, that's for damn sure. I've wrapped up ALL the quests (main and side), killed the super mutant bohemoths, and am sooo close to discovering 100 locations. I've sunk 50 hours into this beast, and I'm gonna have to play through again to get the speech, hacking, and bobblehead cheezies.

...and I have no problem with that. :D

What level are you at? I found the first 5 levels or so pretty tedious (due to the difficulty of fighting damn near anything) but after that I got hooked. I'm almost 40 hours in now and loving every minute of it.
The Head of State quest is really pissing me off since the group at the end won't show up for me.
They don't show up at the memorial. You need to meet them at one of the stations there in the plaza. It's on the left-side, if you're facing the Washington Monument. Hopefully, that is what is hanging you up.

That quest is also potentially very glitchy.

I cleared out the Super Mutants and the slavers before escorting the escaped slaves to the memorial. Once we all got there (taking the most retarded, roundabout path possible), they were like, "Lets go kill those slavers!" I said "ok" and escorted them into the empty lincoln memorial. They now just stand around in there like a pack of idiots, never acknowledging the fact that there are no slavers left in the area.

Did you kill the leader inside?

You also might need to keep resting until they do. I rested in 6 hour intervals until they showed up.
I'm guessing, since I wiped out the slavers at Paradise Falls, I can't do Strictly Business, right?
If you killed them all, probably not. You get the quest from the guy at the front.

Ah well, gonna do an evil playthrough next anyway. It'll be the last achievement I'd need besides the level based ones.
Did you kill the leader inside?
Oh yeah. I killed the hell out of that place. I might fire it up later today to see if letting some time pass has changed anything. I even disarmed trip wires and mines around the memorial.

I just finished the game on my first playthrough. I love the end. IGN gave Fallout 3 Game of the Year, this was my GotY as soon as I had gotten a few hours in. I can't wait for the DLC.

I'm on my 2nd playthrough. I was going to be evil, but ever since KOTOR I don't have the stomach for it anymore. I lower my karma when I can, but sometimes I just gotta do the right thing LOL. Guess this will be my neutral run-though, but I plan on trying to find all the locations and bobbleheads this time. I found 7 the first time. Definitely my GOTY, but I've always loved Fallout and Bethesda, so I guess that's to be expected.

I found em all and did the Super Mutant Behemoths before I beat it. I love the special edition hardcover strategy guide.

I've never used strategy guides except to look up unlockables on GameFaqs or if I'm really stuck. Gotta admit that guide looks sweet though. I'm going to try to find all I can on my own and then check out a guide on my 3rd run to see anything I missed and want to try. Hopefully I can get the guide cheap later down the road.

What are you guys' take on the strategy guide for this game? I've heard it's an amazing guide, but would it be better to play with or without it?

If you want to get the most out of the game I say get it. It helps in finding all the locations and small things that you miss out on (especially when the game is this damn huge).

Even after beating the game, just browsing through the wiki, theres so much more that I missed. You really need to explore to find everything, and even then, you might have missed something with a one time event or something

I can not wait to get this game. I rented but hardly got to play cause of work. I am still playing Oblivion just to try to finish it before I get Fallout 3, it wont happen.

I got the hardcover one on an Amazon special. I don't care if I use it or not. I still put almost 55 hours on my first playthrough. I got all the achievements except the level based ones for neutral and evil and a couple of skill based achievements. The map is invaluable because I got lost a few times or couldn't find a specific spot.

It really helps to have some assistance when you're looking for places within the city. Since wreckage blocks everything, you need to use the subways, and there are times you have don't know where the hell you're suppose to be going.

I have some questions.

Ok, so I have held off on the main quest and
heading to the GNR to find my dad
, but I don't know what quest to do next.

I've already
completed chapter one of the Megaton Survival Guide, went to find Ian West with the Family
and other stuff that's around that time. Should I now
go try to find the ghoul underworld, test the Mole Rat repellent in the Sewers (isn't this by where the Super Mutants hang?) or go and find Dogmeat at the Scrapyard?

Thanks

My friend cant get to the end, it glitches when
he goes to the courtyard of the brotherhood of steel cathedral and half way running across it freezes every time, what should he do???

When you do the part on landmines of the survival guide, scrapyard is on the way and you should be able to find Dogmeat. IMO, its best to find Dogmeat asap so you can make battles just a bit easier.

I already did that quest.

Well, you don't actually need to use the subway system to get to Rivet City. Hopefully, if you can avoid it this time, whatever is triggering the freeze will be gone if you need that entrance later.
I already did that quest.
In that case, you should run back to scrapyard if you missed it on the way. Might as well get DM to make battles easier.

Despite everyone's hate of Dogmeat, he was a huge to me early on in the game. He can take a massive beating, so I just let him run into battle, while I took our enemies out.

I am seriously jonesing for the DLC.

You serious? He died from one hit from a regular scorpion for me.

Seems like a completely random glitch. Dogmeat can withstand a prolonged fight with a fire ant, which was a lifesaver for me.
