Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info ...Out NOW!

Name probably fixed, I just reloaded the save file after restarting the PS3.
Glitch #2: Somehow I got stuck in a rock... Luckily I saved just before; So far I'm having a lot of fun with the game but when you have to play it in fear that it could glitch out at any second it really takes you out of the experience. We should put I poll in this thread to see how many people are playing in hardcore mode.
I remember getting stuck in between cracks on rocky hills in Fallout 3, it was more of a clipping issue with the character model. I got stuck in this game as well at the gas station in the first town. I thought I would be able to get up on the roof where the abandoned truck is parked since it had a hole in the over hang. Ended up getting stuck between the roof of the truck and the overhang.

Even after the patches in Fallout 3 it still had the freezing issues and clipping issues like that. Looks like it's the same problems so far in this game.

As for the poll, I'm playing on hard core mode.
What is your recommendation on the game at this point, ChibiJosh? I loved Fallout 3, but didn't jump right in on this one right away.
If you loved Fallout 3, there is almost no way you won't love this game. It's has the same feel of Fallout 3, I just think the gameplay is polished a little bit more.

My biggest complaints are that I think a lot of the side missions just have you running back and forth in one area rather talking to people than running into some old factory filled with super mutants to get something. And whenever you are on a mission that requires you to do some fighting, it's normally mutated bugs or animals. Of course, part of this may have been me getting out of a lot of stuff using speech checks.

Overall, I think this game is on par with Fallout 3 and will probably turn out higher on the list in the end. That said, you may as well wait a month for patches to come out.

Thanks. Yeah... patches. I know that they will more than likely barely make a dent in the glitches. Still, less gamebreakers the better.

Finally picked this up and am enjoying this game so far. I am playing with the wild wasteland trait and was wondering if anyone could explain the johnny reference outside of the first town.

It has to do with a famously terrible ameteur-developed RPG:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7hElo-fSj0

We theorized that when you send an object through time, it does not create a new timeline that overrides the current like we had originally thought. When the object enters the timestream, time begins to correct itself. Let me use this example: Imagine four balls on the edge of a cliff. Say a direct copy of the ball nearest the cliff is sent to the back of the line of balls and takes the place of the first ball. The formerly first ball becomes the second, the second becomes the third, and the fourth falls off the cliff. Time works the same way.

So, I finished the melee damage trophy (which is an awesome reference to Sex String Samurai). It seems to me that the melee and unarmed skills are largely useless, I was able to get 10000 with both of them easily with only a 20-30 skill in it. For the melee, I was running around using Oh Baby! (a unique super sledge) which supposedly requires a 100 skill and 8 strength (I only have 6), but I was still able to kill plenty of things 1 hit. I actually found out that it was easily to kill Cazadors with it than my normal gun weapons.

I'm also a little annoyed at how most energy weapons take more than 1 bullet per shot. I was fine with it when my plasma gun took 2 per shot, but now my gauss riffle takes 5 and the tesla cannon takes a ridiculous 45 per shot.

What the hell
Damn it I just want to explode the rocket, why do I have to get the fuel and starter and sugarbomb just to make it explode. On a side note sugar bombs are scary, superjet in fallout 3, dangerous reactant in new vegas. I am never buying corn pops again.

any idea when a patch is coming out? my game has frozen probably 6-7 times already. one was indefinitely. kept trying to leave the casino that Mr. House is in and every time it'd go to a black screen. had to start back at a save that was a few hours prior. extremely annoying.

I don't think you need the items. . .
if you have a certain science requirement (not entirely sure since it doesn't list one next to the option)? I just happened to have three sugar bombs on me (chalk one up to experience with Fallout 3), but after I gave them to him I went to the launch deck and it gives you an option to make them crash into each other anyways. I didn't opt for that and just left it alone, since I'd assume there was a karma penalty and they were set to blow anyhow.

It's totally worth it seeing them explode, though. Not quite as epic as nuking Megaton, but definitely up there.

I didn't even know there was an option to blow them up, I only saw the option to make them crash into each other. I just let them go.

Yeah, you have to have high speech in order to convince him he's being left behind. He rages and plots to sabotage the flight, of which you can calm him down and convince him not to. Also, his dialogue gets buggy if you return to the basement and talk to him after they blow up. He'll report that he's in another town now (lol) and ask what happened to the flight, as if he has no idea about what he did. You can even tell him you changed the flight course to crash them, even if you didn't lol. 300 testers couldn't find stuff like this? Very hard to believe.
There seems to be a game update.
I wonder what it is... I hope it fixes the random freezing while I'm walking.
That will never be fixed... that is just one of the joys of Bethesda's engine.

Yeah it was awesome. I have to restart the game now. I got to finally got to vegas but I have been such a dick to everyone in game I can't even get within a mile of the legion, I killed benny, mr. house and pretty much everyone I could. I feel content with my first attempt.

But, after you kill Benny, you should be given amnesty from NCR and Legion for anything you've done to them.

I continued to kill after that point. :) I really can't help being a psychopath my first go through on games like this, it's just to funny.

I have a question concerning an unmarked quest in Camp McCarran concerning Contreras... (obviously spoilers ensues...so spoiler warning)
I am beginning to suspect that this particular quest is broken (a bunch of Camp McCarran side quests seems buggy). I am trying to solve this quest (continuously reloading from the pawn shop), and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. If I speak to Keller in such a manner the quest becomes 'stuck,' and no way I could go about finishing the quest. I am just tired of this quest; does anyone know a simple way to solve this quest without any negative impact on Karma (perhaps getting that unique weapon)?

I wasn't able to do it either.

Contreras won't talk to you about the quest after you take the I put a spell on you side quest. On a side note
What the hell, in I put a spell on you I stop the spy, and disarm the bomb on the monorail but it still blows the hell up. This is some serious buggy shit that pisses me off. I am trying to be a nice guy on this play through but the bugginess of the game wants me to rage out and decapitate every NCR guy at McCarran.

damn i ran into another bug in regards to the strip...
I can't get in, it loads and freezes in black screen. I read up on it and apparently its a glitch that may appear when you kill that one dude (forgot his name) in the strip for Atomic Wrangler. The only way to bypass this glitch apparently is by wearing 'old cowboy hat.'
Aside from the bugs, is anyone disappointed with New Vegas? I first thought it was just difference between the novelty values of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but I have to say that New Vegas seems to have a lot less action oriented quests/events. The designs of areas seems uninspired. I haven't finished the game yet, and I do still enjoy playing the game...but seems to have lost a lot of the grandeur of Fallout 3.
The patch didn't do anything, and hopefully they will come out with a better update by next week.
I wasn't able to do it either.
I finished it just fine, but that was on PC.
However, it is buggy and I had to reload a previous save to fix an invisible Curtis. Basically, DO NOT wait inside the tower until 1AM. Stand outside and wait until after, then enter. If you're inside and leave, he'll become bugged outside and completely invisible. You can still kill him through VATS but that does nothing but fail the mission. If you're inside and he magically appears then he'll engage you in dialogue, but no matter what you say he will turn hostile and killing him will fail the quest (which is broken because you're supposed to kill him at this point, but it fails for w/e reason).

If you follow my directions, you should enter and advance the quest by eavesdropping the conversation. Then you have a few minutes to disarm the monorail train, so sprint up there. Talking to Hsu afterward will end the quest properly.

Damn for some reason its not letting me into New Vegas. Says I need a key. Whats up with that. I've put 40 hours into the game and now it won't let me back in Vegas.

ummz....
Are you talking about entering the strip from Freeside? Perhaps equipping the 'Old Cowboy Hat' might work, you can buy it from Blake from Crimson Caravan. I did this to fix my inability to enter Vegas from Freeside (it use to freeze on black screen).

I have a quest item and don't know what it is for. Does anyone know where to use the gbrm2kx memory chip. It won't let me drop it from my inventory saying that it is a quest item. Any help would be nice.

That happened to me. Just hide and kill the lead robot without being seen. You can get a key off of it.

Yep, I'm running into this on the PC version now too. It only happens in the UltraLuxe public bath house from what I can tell, but it's not a normal CTD and only happens after a few seconds of being in there. It just straight freezes for w/e reason and I have to manually end task. I'll try your workaround if I can find the hat.

Damn I'm stuck (non bug related), regards to Platinum Chip and Benny.
So after getting ambushed in the Presidential suite and talking to Yes Man I am on the hunt for Benny. Only problem is that I shot up so many Legionaries up to this point and I can't even step foot into any of their territories without killing everyone (afraid to Kill everyone cause I have this innate fear that it will break the game). I supposedly got the 'mark' from Caesar, but that doesn't do anything. I haven't tried this, but I'm thinking of leaving Boone somewhere. Does Boone disappear if I leave him somewhere and fast travel?

Boone hates the legion and will attack them on sight, that's your problem. Just send him back to Novac or the Lucky 38, and you can get him from there.

Actually, there's a simple solution that doesn't require sending him away at all. Simply open his dialogue and tell him to 'wait here' somewhere outside of the camp. He will not follow you to the fort, so once you're done just go back and pick him up.

Thanks Jodou and Chibijosh; I still haven't tried it yet (kinda hoped for another patch by now). I wouldn't say Fallout New Vegas is unplayable...but when your in momentum doing a quest and the game locks...it kinda drives down the motivation (sort of like someone else stepping on the brakes for you).

Also, Jodou you can find...
the 'old cowboy hat' in Crimson Caravan. I believe Blake sells them. I am still not sure how it works, but it so far fixed the glitch for me.
Sorry for being late with the reply.

I got past it because it didn't lock up during the event that takes place there. It's so odd, because it would just randomly freeze while exploring in there, but it wasn't consistent with anything I did. In all my time during the game, it was the only place that would definitely crash if I stayed too long, though.

I'm progressing much slower than what I would like...but that is due to a lack of playing time more than anything else. Only level 5, nearly 6, but trying to do a lot of the side quests and raise my level (although it doesn't look like it). I did have it freeze up on me (hard system freeze) the first 3 times I played it, which ended my sessions.

As of last night, this game has become unplayable. That really sucks because I was really into it.

I'm in the strip, and was able to go through the Tops casino and do everything in there as well as the one with the White Glove people and all those quests. I decided to call it a night (this was 2 nights ago) and save my game. When I went to start it back up last night, it wouldn't load my save game. That little roulette thing on the loading screen just freezes up. It kept doing this over and over until I decided to try to load an auto save. This actually loaded, and it was cool because the game auto saved right before I manually saved a couple nights ago, so no loss. The problem now is as soon as I do something, like talk to somebody or go through a door, it freezes again.

This is sooooooooooooo frustrating!! What good did that patch do? I haven't noticed any difference. I hope there's another coming soon.

Are you indoors or outdoors? If you're out I recommend fast traveling out of that area and see if your problems persists in other areas. If the Strip was the problem area then purchase 'old cowboy hat' from Blake in Crimson Caravan area (wearing the hat helped me... not sure why). I too hope another patch is on its way; I've read the PC got a second patch which fixed nearly all game freezing problems.

Another quick questions for those who have completed Wild Card and/or House's quests...
So I basically sided with Yes Man, but does that mean I'm now on bad terms with NCR? I ask cause once I finished the quest I got a pop up saying that I would be no longer able to help NCR if I work with Yes Man. Storywise I'm not quite sure what to do to progress along the main story; could anyone point me towards the right direction? I'm probably going to do White Glove Society side quests next.

I think the idea is if you're not working for them, you're against them. I chose NCR so I don't know.
